I heard the internet was recently getting obsessed with a pair of middle-aged twins from a paranormal investigative media where one harasses people and hates large corporations and the other one is a quiet scientist who may or may not have had sexual relations with an otherworldly being... I hope these are the right guys âđ»

Anyone else make venn diagrams of their favourite characters and their shared traits or is that just me?
(Please note that tboy swag is a seperate category to headcanoning them as a trans man. Tboy swag is about the Vibes, characters who are not necessarily tboys such as Phoebe and Beelzebub can have tboy swag and characters that I do think are trans like the Third Doctor can lack tboy swag)

Southern Skies
Pairing: Egon Spengler/TA!Reader
no more fics abt kids for 10 years cuz I'm scared yall can tell when I'm ovulating
Better formatting on Ao3!!
The newspaper was spread out over the table, frankly ignored as all four men were scrambling to get breakfast in themselves before they headed out to a call scheduled painfully early. Egon paused, hoping to get a sip of coffee without it spilling over onto his underclothes, when he spotted it- an editorial that had consulted you for a professional opinion. Mug barely to his lips as he skimmed it, Ray appeared in front of him, ready to go.
âSomething interesting?â he inquired, attempting to read upside down. Ray opened his suit a tad in hopes to get some air. âJeez, itâs hot today.â
âItâs that time.â Egonâs own words making him start to wonder something, forgetting about the mug, guessing that itâd just have to go cold if they wanted to get there in a timely manner. âDo you recognize the name?âÂ
Ray got a proper look, squinting and fishing for an answer in his head, shaking it twice. âNot really. You know my memoriesâ shot,â he patted Egon on the shoulder, all the men filing out and down the steps.
Rayâs memory mustâve been crushed, ran over, and spat upon- Egon could remember like it was yesterday. He wasnât complaining, really, content with the recollection being something he could keep just for himself as he broke into a small and selfish smile behind his friendsâ backs.
Christine brought eyes to the clouds in exasperation âYou donât know how awkward it is to see a clone of your boyfriend everywhere,â she complained as you headed back to your dormitory.Â
âSide-effects of dating a twin.â You let out a small laugh at her long-distance plight with your books stacked in your arms. It was nice and bright out, the perfect afternoon for a good, long book, or an equally as lengthy nap. âAre you at least, like, friends?â
She sighed, pushing open the complexâs doors. âA bit. Weâre gonna have to be, anyway.â
âItâs not all bad. No need for those pictures he sends-â
âIâm not listening !â Christine whined, squeezing her eyes shut and pushing manicured nails into her ears while you snickered devilishly. âI canât believe you saw those.â
You put the key to your space into the door. âRelax, Iâm not reading your mail. Just stop leaving nasty letters on the coffee table.â Christine groaned in embarrassment, sinking into the armchair you got in a yard sale all the way back in winter.
âSpeaking of,â she toyed with a fraying edge of the lime green fabric, âHe called this morning. Heâs still coming- just thought we should bring a few friends.â
You made a skeptic noise as you started on lunch for you and your roommate. âOuf. During your big reunion trip that you canât stop talking about?â you asked over your shoulder, washing some fruit.
âThatâs the one.â Christine sat up, accidently pulling some of the thread with her. âI suggested it. I just thought he deserved to see them, after being away so long.â You traded your skepticism for understanding, placing grapes in a strainer. âWhat Iâm trying to sayâŠâ
âI would love to take a road trip with strangers while you make out in the front seat. Itâd be an honor, actually.âÂ
Christine snuck a few grapes and popped them in her mouth. âYouâre not as distant as you think. It canât be that bad- Iâll be there!â she punctuated herself by stealing another handful. âWhat happened to our summer plans?â
âIf Iâm only being half sarcastic,â you ended up giving her the entire colander, âwouldnât I be intruding?â She sat on the counter, legs of her jeans swinging back and forth.
âNot at all. Iâd like you to meet him before the wedding,â Christine teased you. When you werenât entirely receptive, she poked you in the side. âIf you end up with the brother, our kidsâll pretty much be siblings.â
âNot how genetics works. Weâd have to be twins, too.â
âWe practically are.â
âOh, of course.â you joked as she turned you both towards the mirror on the wall. You watched her hopeful face in the mirror. Why was she always the one encouraging you to try new things, anyway? These next few months wonât last forever, admittedly, and soon youâll be put into the real world where you canât just drop everything for a trip out with other young people. Plus, you needed to know if her boyfriend was as cute as she said. âWhen do we leave?â you finally caved.
Christine jumped up, full of excitement as she dragged you to the closet. âOh, I have to help you pack!â
âWhy would I wanna do that?â Egon said into the phone, slipping into casual speech with his brother on the other end when Peter and Ray walked in, back from their lunch. âI donât like being in a car with you on a regular day.â
âBecause Iâm coming home and you wanna see me,â Elon answered, unaffected by his twin. Egon sighed into the receiver at his happy tone. Out of all the things heâs had nightmares about, being stuck in a hot car with his brother and his girlfriend was the most hellish.Â
âDo they know youâre coming?âÂ
âThe last time I surprised Mom she told everyone I died. I attended my own funeral. Hey, you could bring Pete and Ray along. Itâs a whole thing- Chris offered.â
âWhat about us?â Peter said over Egonâs shoulders, making him flinch away from his friend.
âWanna take a trip to the shore?â Elon raised his voice so Peter could hear him, Egon flinching in the opposite direction as his ears were assaulted on either side.
Ray dropped what he was doing, now intrigued. âA road trip?â he smiled. âWeâre going!â
Egon handed his roommates the phone, since they were so interested in a little excursion with his brother. What was it about the concept that sounded so fun to those three? He could drive anywhere at any time without it having to be a âthingâ.
âOh man,â Ray covered the receiver, âapparently thereâs a campsite with the clearest sky for stargazing,â he beamed.
âGet pictures for me,â Egon said plainly, turning his chair back to his desk. Peter didnât like that, apparently, spinning his friend back around with his hands on his hips.
âYouâre not staying here to rot while weâre off kissing girls and looking at space.â
He ignored the pseudo-vulgarity. âIâll manage. Besides, I have work to get ready for.â Not entirely untrue, he did have an internship coming up- they all did, just not until much later in the season. Ray frowned, seemingly catching the man in his half-lie.
âThatâs so far away, Spengs. If you do this, weâll never ask for anything ever again.â Ray reasoned, grinning hopefully. Egon sat back in thought, under a spotlight shined on him by his two friends. His legs would get tired. He probably couldnât wear a sweater in the heat. Heâd have to sleep in a dingy motel at some point. But- heâd get a rare chance to actually see the night sky without light pollution. If it rained, heâd get a moment for fungus hunting. And maybe he did miss his brother. Maybe.
âWhen do we leave?â
You barely had time to catch the bag your friend nearly dropped before she was sprinting towards a parked light blue car by the curb with its trunk popped open. As you got closer to the little congregation, your mouth fell open as you got a real look at the man she was clinging to.
Holy shit . This was gonna be so much more fun than you thought.
âLonnie!â She hugged him tightly, peppering lipstick covered kisses all over his face. The face youâd come to know quite well, actually.Â
âHey, Chris,â he smiled dopily. It was jarring, seeing that face smile so earnestly. They were the exact same person, down to the length and style of their hair, height- if you were crazy enough, youâd ask if they wore the same frames. And one of them was smiling? You had assumed that everyone in the Spengler family was a sea anemone. He, Elon, held onto her waist, before catching sight of you standing on the sidewalk. âHi,â he grinned warmly, âhave you met everyone?â
You couldnât answer before he took the reins, introducing the unfamiliar men who you had only just noticed. Elon exuded being a natural conversationalist. How ironic? âThatâs Peter. Psychology.â
You wondered why he was so familiar until it finally clicked. âI know you. Thereâs a girl in psych who said you slept over and stole her silk robe.â
âI canât help it if I look better in it.â
Elon stifled a laugh- that girl was good friends with Christine. âRayâs in engineering,â he managed to get out.
âI like your jacket,â you complimented, amused at the fashion choice in such unrelenting heat. Â
âThanks,â Ray cuffed his sleeves happily, âI like your lack of a jacket.â
You laughed at that, adjusting the bag on your back getting heavier and heavier by the second. âItâs 80 degrees!â
âCar ACs are no joke.â
Elon tried peeking around the back of the car. âIâm sure youâve met my brother. Heâs just a ray of sunshine.âÂ
âSure.â You smiled inwardly, watching Egon arrange luggage like there was a science to it- which, there probably was. You headed back there, slinging a backpack off your shoulder. âIsnât this fun?â you spoke lowly. He looked miserable, but in a humorous way. At least, humorous for you.
He didnât answer, placing it in the trunk silently. You placed Christineâs on the roomy felt flooring next to a bit of camping gear before you spoke again, unbothered by his petulance. âI didnât know you had a twin.â
Egon moved her bag, the spot you chose apparently not optimal enough for him. âIâd consider him more of a parasite.â That made you laugh as he shut the hatch, but didnât lock it, the latching mechanism seemingly unfamiliar to him. You reached down, doing it for him before leaving him behind to join the rest of your new friends.
âAt least heâs a cute parasite.â
Elon held the door open for his girlfriend. âYou wanna sit upfront?â Elon asked before she shook her head, climbing into the window seat in the back.
Christine pulled her seatbelt across her chest. âIâll get sick. Y/N, sit back here with me.â she patted the spot next to her. Elon nodded, getting into the driverâs seat while you slid in beside your friend, cherishing the space you probably wonât get again for the next couple of hours.
âRay? Will you be my co-captain?â Elon starts the ignition, cranking his window down a crack. Ray got in the passengerâs seat enthusiastically, almost hitting his head on the roof.
âDo I!â he was virtually buzzing as he took in all the bells and whistles in front of him. You werenât exactly a car person, but you could say this one was objectively pretty hip- even the leather felt nice underneath you. Peter and Egon filed in next, Elon pulling off from the sidewalk as Ray couldnât contain himself, starting again.
He ran a careful finger across the dash. âWhereâd you get this from, anyway?â
âI cashed in a couple favors, traded in the beetle,â Elon paused at a crosswalk.
Peter hummed. âDidnât know they drove like this in yodieland.â
Elon put a finger up in defense. âI got this âcause of my exceptional business skills.â
âJust say youâre a bad dealer.â
Eventually, your little group made it out onto the highway, surrounded by high heels and even higher trees. You had the little book you had snuck in cracked open, but there really was no need. The car was full of excellent talkers, dissolving any previous fears about if it would ever get too quiet or awkward. Excellent talkers, excluding Egon. A silent part of yourself cursed Christine for picking the window, placing you in between herself and the psychologist, away from the victim of your tortures. But, your read and your position were forgotten about, book spread open and face down on your lap as Elon shared a riveting story about roller skating.
âNow that you mention skating,â Peter turned to you and Christine, her legs thrown over your own, âyouâd never believe me if I told you how good Egon is.â
You sat up, somehow even more interested. âNo way.â you flashed the man over Peterâs shoulder a wicked smile as he offishly avoided your gaze.
Peter nodded. If there was trickery in his eyes, youâd have missed it. âYes way. Absolute god, too.â Elon and Ray made a few noises of agreement up front.Â
âIâll have to see it sometime,â you say as innocently as possible, enjoying the sight of Egonâs cheeks turning pink under the attention. âNo need to be embarrassed- I think itâs cool.â you sounded genuine to everyone who wasnât either of you, leaning forward to catch his eye.
It twitched as he searched you, just like it did in your lecture hall. Who said a classroom could only have four walls?Â
âNot embarrassed for me,â he kept eye-contact, âembarrassed for you when you fall.â
There was a chorus of ooo-ing as you slumped back in your seat- not embarrassed yourself, but satisfied with his ability to get you back, even when it wasnât over a work of fiction. âVery funny,â you started, needing an iron will to refer to him with his first name as to not make things look weird, âEgon.â
At some point, Christine had her face pressed to the glass while you were stuck in midday traffic- bumper to bumper. âCheck out the moose!â she gasped, shaking your shoulder.
âMoose donât live down here,â Elon spared a look while the car inched forward. You put your play down, squinting outside with her.
âThose are two bucks.â
âAnd theyâre-âÂ
The car suddenly gained speed as traffic lessened, giving the two not-moose their privacy.
At some point, as the sun was getting ready to set, the car found itself on another long stretch of highway, no other vehicle in sight as you made your way around winding roads lined with yellow-green. Elon mustâve noticed something, or someone, with their thumb out when he decided to slow down, easing on the brakes as he pulled onto the shoulder.
The hitchhiker spoke into his half closed driver side window, âHey, man. I just need a ride to somewhere with a bus stop.â Elon nodded understandably, saying something about checking the tires before youâd go.
âTry to make a decision before I get back,â Elon spoke softly as to not be overheard by your prospective guest.Â
Egon definitely wouldâve rather kept going, but Ray was the first to speak. âProbably wonât see anyone again for miles,â he presumed, turning in the passengerâs seat.Â
âHe canât have any ill will. Hard to kill all six of us.â you offered, not to Egonâs surprise. He watched as you turned to your friend, tapping her boot against the floor. âChristine? What dâyou think?â
She kept her eyes straight ahead, arms crossed. âWhatever gets us to the rest stop the fastest.â
âDonât worry. Just donât think about the beach. Or the river down there. Or drinking wate-â
âBe quiet , Peter!â she fussed. He apologized when she shifted around where she was sitting, checking how much progress her boyfriend had made on whatever he was doing.
Ray unbuckled his seatbelt. âHe should sit up front,â he started, before Peter put a hand out.
âAnd where will you go?â
He gave his friend a bemused look, cocking an eyebrow. âIâll get back there with you guys,â he said as if he was doubting his answer.
âWith that butt? Thereâs no space.â Egon could tell you were holding in your own amusement before your own friend spoke up, foot tapping evolving into knee bouncing.
Christine squeezed your shoulder like it was a stressball. âIâd let you sit on me, but I think Iâd piss my pants if you did.â
âGlad Iâm being thought of,â you kept your eyes ahead as she once did to avoid being the next puzzle piece for this little dilemma. When you heard Elon approach the car again, with no verdict reached, you sighed heavily, unbuckling yourself and scooting forward. âYou donât mind?â his wide eyes caught sight of your hand on the frame of the door. Heâd say no, make you sit on the roof; thatâd keep you from bothering him. So whyâd he say yes?
He thought he was done with this. The things youâd do, the things youâd say- he thought all of that was done, at least until school started again and he was locked into the same routine. But now, you were on him, and it wasnât explicit but it felt that way and he couldnât miss the look his twin gave him before he finally decided to drive and the car was moving . He got insanely self aware insanely quickly, cursing whoever it was that convinced him to wear a dingier pair of pants.
Elon couldnât have been more careless a driver, bumping into potholes and sticks and whatever other debris littered the road ahead as he approached a town. He only had a second to burn a stare into the rearview mirror, before his brother stopped a little too hard, sending you sliding down the length of his bent thighs and into his torso.
Egon was absolutely burning up, hands not knowing where to stay as he unconsciously encompassed the middle of your back with both of his palms, sitting up uncomfortably. âSorryâ was all she could mutter as his heart clamored to the front of his chest.
Except, you looked back at him. Smiling . âWhatâre you sorry for?â you asked sweetly, quiet enough so only he could hear. This was his affliction acting up again, head swimming without coherent thought. He knew that this was nothing but your poison, giving him a perfectly reasonable reaction to the toxin. Like Claudius and Hamlet. God, he was thinking like you.
So Egon didnât say anything, planting two hands on your waist like heâd seen his brother do to Christine. He could be poisonous, too.
The car sputtered to a stop at a larger gas station outside a little town, forever tainted by the sight of Christine running inside before she could have an accident. Peter offered to fill up the tank as the hitchhiker made his way to the bus shelter, and everyone emptying out the car left only you and Egon.Â
âThanks,â you grinned, pinching the apple of his blank face before you climbed off, following them all. He knew heâd rather stay alone in the car, but Peter had yet to bring the last 8 minutes up, and he was most likely close to breaking.
Egon gave Ray a half-hearted thanks as the interior gave him much needed relief from the sun, even if it was in the form of a handful of desktop fans. He wandered off from you and Ray as you stocked up on campfire-food, his eyes drawn to the knick-knacks for sale that lined the walls of pure dark wood, wherever there wasnât an ancient looking antique mounted. A charming kind of hospitality, Egon thought as he passed another shelf full of anything anyone would stock up on.Â
There was a lunch counter facing a large window that gave patrons a wide view of the orange sunset. But, he wasnât so much drawn to it as he was to the glass classes full of confections and pastry that garnished the benchtop, marked with differing prices. Egonâs stomach sang at the idea of a slice of cake. When was the last time he had a good dessert?
âHuh. Pegged you more of a vanilla-guy.â Egon jumped. You had to stop popping up everywhere. âLet me buy it for you.â you kept your eyes on the crystalware.Â
âBuy an entire chocolate cake?â
You shrugged, arms full of packets of graham crackers. âSure, if you promise to go halfsies.â
Egon couldnât think of much as you started towards the cashier, simply following you. âWhy?â was the only word that came to mind. You stilled, sighing before keeping on.
âBecause I find you so agreeable. Now, get my wallet for me.â And, naturally, it had to be in your back pocket.
You held the wax-paper wrapped one-tier in awe, both of you fairly hypnotized at opaque swirls of brown icing pressed against foggy parchment. You handed it off, telling him to hide it while you used the restroom. Egon hardly had a moment to take anything else in before you scuttled out the family bathroom, door shut harshly with your back.
âWhat?â He noted the quick rise and fall of your chest as you took a few steps away.
âThey really missed each other.â
You all met Peter with bags full of marshmallow and chocolate when the strangerâs greyhound pulled up, coughing out exhaust. Elon quickly ducked into the glove compartment, springing out with a small baggie that his brother missed when he bounded over to the man. From this distance, the backpacker seemed elated as Elon returned, looking pleased with himself.
âWhat was that?â Ray placed the last paper sack into the trunk, away from the windows.Â
âExpanding my business to the east coast,â he answered confidently. His eyes went round at the sight of a police trooper against the tangerine horizon, ushering everyone back inside so they could get back on their way.
It was past dark when they pulled into the parking lot of a state campsite, virtually all for themselves. Egon felt out of place when he gandered at his reflection in the mirror of the visitorâs bathroom, t-shirt and Peterâs lounge pants replacing his normal pajamas. He was starting to miss his cap and gown- it certainly wouldâve protected against prospective ticks better than the short manâs bottoms leaving his ankles bare.
Elon drove out to the lake, where Ray was put in charge of starting a fire and assembling smores. At some point during the little mass, you had stopped him passing one to Egon insisting that you see the inside. You crinkle your nose, before grabbing the bag of marshmallows and handing him one on a stick.Â
âHow do you eat yours?â Your tone was professorial, as if you werenât trying to interrogate him on how he toasted a mini cube of gelatin and sugar. Egon plucked it from you, holding it over the flame for all of three seconds. You made a face, taking it back. âThereâs a right way to do it wrong.â
He watched as you let it burn completely charcoal black. Before he could refuse, you put a hand up, deep in concentration. Your fingers pinched the burnt outside, meticulously sliding it off to reveal a gooey, white center which you haphazardly rolled onto your palm after sampling the caramelized shell. âTry,â you held it out to him. Egon made a face in turn, silently refusing. He cowered, attempting to nix you when you climbed over your stump and onto his, eventually forcing the treat into his mouth. Reluctantly, he chewed, and found it wasnât all that bad- if not a bit hot. He caught his brotherâs eye as you sat back, licking the residue off your fingers, and the warmth and smoke of the fire caught up with him as he frowned. This was not enjoyable. This was the poisoned goblet
When the fire was out, they could really enjoy the night sky above them. It was an inky oil spill, dappled with the light of soft stars in an uncorrupted plane, vast and never ending as it rolled on in every possible direction. âItâs beautiful,â Christine marveled, curled up into her boyfriend while they sat on the grass.
Egon kept his eyes upward to avoid the sight of Elonâs fingers dancing along the hem of her pajamas. He muttered something about a better place to see it all, and they were off somewhere in the sloping hillside. Your knees were tucked into your chest when Ray leaned over, smiling.
âHave you ever seen stars like this?â You broke out into your own smile, shaking your head.
âNever,â you clenched and unclenched your hands, appealing smaller. Egon could feel that pull in between his eyes, that involuntary darkness in his face. But it wasnât directed at you. It was directed at his friend. Where was this coming from?
Peter stood then, shaking refuse from himself. âCâmon, Ray. Iâll grab the camera and we can go up there for some good pictures.â
Ray stayed sitting with his legs crossed. âOh, itâs okay. You can see it great down here.âÂ
âOh, youâre so much better with the camera than me,â Peter persisted.
âI wouldnât say that-â Ray started to wave his friend off, before he was hoisted to his feet and led off into the darkness somewhere. That left only you and him.
You rose when they disappeared over the trees, unlocking the trunk and propping it open as far as it could go. After clearing the way from stray bags and luggage, you procured a blanket that hung over the backseat, draping in across the bed and settling in. Egon looked on stiffly, before you touched the space next to yourself. âBecause you donât like the grass,â you said simply.
He sat, legs dangling over the edge of the car ungracefully. You didnât seem to mind. âIsnât it perfect?â you venerated heavenward. Egon took in the celestial body, marbling in a color he had only seen on your sweaters. Other hues swirled and mixed with each other, creating a depth that he was sure would match your corneas. Airglow flowed out from within Andromeda, streaks of energy peeking and hiding within a dark backdrop that mirrored the flow of your hair. The stars speckled everything in sight, being everything and nothing at the same time, content with vacuity and shining in abundance. He nodded, transfixed.
âI never realized that stars werenât justâŠdots. Now theyâre in front of me, and theyâre things .â you expressed, attempting to trace them into vaster shapes. âItâs a shame the moon isnât out.â
Egon did the same, scanning for a constellation. âBurning groups of hydrogen turning into helium, letting out electromagnetic radiation.â
You twinkled. âShow-off.â You leaned back on your hands, before sitting back up, digging around and emerging with the cake from earlier. âYou hid it back here?â you judged him playfully, stealing two forks from the glove compartment.
âOne for you,â you pressed a fork down the middle of the, surprisingly undamaged, dessert, âand one for me.â Egon was wary as you took a piece from his half, bringing it to his lips. His pupils crossed as you held it between his eyes, and he held back as if it was venom. He took the fork from you instead, whatever fluttery feeling that was happening in his abdomen flying away.Â
You took your own bite, and nearly melted. âWhatâs in this?â you said around a mouthful of cake. Egon savored some of the pleasant, treacly chocolate flavor.
âCherries,â Egon deduced, the both of you going back for more. At some point, you had clutched his arm, eyes wide and glowing.
âA shooting star!â you pointed, the streak of light soaring through space for a mere few more seconds before it faded as quick as it appeared. âDid you make a wish?â
He sat unaffectedly, arm tingling where you had touched him. âAn archaic superstition.â
You raised a brow, sitting back again. âYou believe in ghosts and possession, but not wishing on stars?â
Egon didnât have an answer, and a silence fell when you brought yourself back to the cosmos. âIf I had the time, Iâd look more into astronomy.â He didnât know what forced that out, perhaps it was the vulnerability of megacosm enveloping him.
âIf you had time?â
âAstrology, if I had an eternity.â Egon paused, when you let out a noise of acknowledgment. âIts connections with the paranormal are worth researching, however frivolous.â In the corner of his vision, you were sitting and staring. Eyelids low, gaze burning and expression unguarded. Poison.
âYouâre not just a robotic physicist.â
He was lost for words. âTo who?â
âTo me, at least.â Egonâs eyes studied every bit of your face, like a robotic physicist. Eyes with a depth that matched the hues of the night sky. Hair flowing like the airglow of space. There was a beating in his ears, drowning out sounds of rustling grasses and a rippling lake in the wind. If the universe had a tangible sound, itâd be this. And it sounded like your breathing. It all created a new layer of confusion for him. This reverie was voluntary. So why could he see ether within you? The medley of matter and the atemporal shine of stars?
An indecent noise pulled him from his rumination, though it did nothing to raise his temperature even higher than it already was. âThey mustâve really missed each other,â you remarked, climbing over the backseat to grab your toiletries. Egon frowned, watching your figure retreat in the direction of the visitorâs bathroom. He only followed in case youâd get lost. But his insides still felt stark.
Egon woke when your head hit the trunk door, and you winced in pain. He sat up, not quite remembering electing to sleep in the commodious back seat, but recognizing that he was no longer in the middle of a park. He clutched the blanket pooled around his middle closer to himself, feeling like an indecent woman as you got the door open. This was a parking lot. To a diner.
âWell, donât you two look nice.â
âYou left us,â you stood at your friendâs table, not nearly as chastened at being in the middle of a busy restaurant in your sleep clothes as Egon was.
Christine smiled apologetically, putting her mug down, âSorry, you just looked so peaceful.â
You both returned to the table after freshening up in the bathroom equally as eager to eat the breakfast that was ordered in your absence. Before having anything of your own, you split off a piece of the pie Christine saved and wordlessly slid it over to Egon. He ate it just as wordlessly.
âIâve been meaning to ask you,â Ray started from across the table, âThe book you were reading earlier- it was Liliom, right? Are you a fan of Rodgers and Hammerstein?â
You brightened. Egon didnât much enjoy the taste of pie anymore. âOh, yeah! I love Carousel,â you clenched and unclenched your hands again.
âThatâs great! My graduating class did Carousel!â Ray leaned forward. You parroted him.
âIn highschool?â You asked, awestruck. âIâm jealous.â
âWhatâs Carousel?â Peter wondered indolently, buttering a piece of toast.
âItâs this opera-musical about a mill worker-â
âWho falls in love with a carnival barker-â
âBut he dies trying to provide for her! And he has to redeem himself for their future daughter.â you say simultaneously, breaking out into a fit of laughter. Egon felt ill.
âYou were going to see Midsummer Night's Dream, right?â The question slipped out without much thought from him, though without any resistance or regret.
He added sugar to his coffee while you wiped your eye. âYeah, thereâs a revival in this theater with the best costume design.âÂ
âIâm surprised you enjoy it so much. I mean, it is a parody of its audience.â
You narrowed your eyes in the same owlish way you did at the chalkboard. âA parody of the audience?â
âLysander, Hermia, Helena, Demetrius?â he offered. âDo they not mock the audienceâs romantics?â
âTheyâre young and in love . Theyâre more of an ode to the audience, if anything- look at Hermia.â
Egon clicked his tongue, watching on as your passion sparked. âHer argument in the woods speaks otherwise. It mimics the efforts of the showgoers.â
âIt mimics their situation!â There was the flame. He smiled to himself. This was familiar. This wasnât confusing.
The back and forth continued, both developing a thesis: you asserted that love was arbitrary and thatâs what makes it special, and he argued that love was arbitrary and thatâs what makes it fleeting. You were brought to a standstill when Elon charmed a local motel owner into letting everyone use the showers- only being let in after vowing that no one in your party was a âhippie-lunatic-drug-dealer.â
What wouldâve been an afternoon to get to the beach turned into an evening, when unexpected downpour managed to back up the highways. It didnât seem to bother Elon or Ray, as they found an indoor flea market to explore while they waited for the storm to pass. It wasnât all bad- there were endless tchotchkes to look at and Christine had managed to haggle for some unexpectedly good donuts.
The car eventually pulled into the beach town at night, joining dozens of others in the parking lot of an ocean themed motel. It was close enough to the boardwalk that the neon signs reflected off the windows, shining in Egonâs blinking eyes. Ray looked on eagerly as you popped the trunk.
âYou saw the size of that coaster, right?â he asked Peter.
âSure did.â
âWeâre going on it, right?â
âSure are.â
âYou guys coming?â He asked you and Egon, making sure he still had his wallet.
You looked around, noticing that your friend and her boyfriend disappeared, probably at the front desk. Then you noticed all the stuff left to bring in. âDonât wait up,â you breathed out, letting the men race each other to the attractions.
Egon started to help you pull bags out, before you gasped, looking up at something over your shoulder and stopping him. âWhat?â he followed your gaze to the yellow-lit windows of the kitsch inn.
âTheyâre catching up on lost time,â you dismissed him, âletâs just-â you put everything down, shutting the door. There was a beat of quiet filled with the sounds of fun from the oceanside, before you turned to him, grinning at the absurdity of the situation. âWeâre stuck out here.âÂ
You lead him towards the boardwalk, hands in your pockets. âI donât suppose youâre a fan of rides,â you assumed.
âIâm not. You can go ahead. Iâll just,â he pushed up his glasses, âwait.â
âNo way.â Egon was confused as you threw a few glances around, before stealing over to the edge of the wooden boulevard. âCome on,â you clutched a woven rope.
There wasnât much for him to do but follow, cringing at the feeling of sand under his shoes. You led him rather quickly, only stopping to get a better sense of direction. âDonât you need a license to be on the beach?â Egon put out.
You halted at the bottom of a formation of large rocks. âItâs the beach,â you made your way up them like a staircase, âI shouldnât need one.â
Egon sighed, prudently doing as you did when you waited for him at the top. They werenât that high, just slippery from the tide as they formed what was natural and short pier. âThis isnât safe,â he warned, anxiously watching as you teetered to the end. âThere are rules against this.â
âJust look,â you pointed upwards once he cagily caught up to you. The moon was finally visible, white beams bathing everything in a dim, pale light. It seemed so close from here. âTurn around,â you patted him on the shoulder.Â
Egon hesitantly agreed, only turning around when he felt your clothes hit his back and heard your footsteps running down the makeshift wharf. There was a hearty splash when he raced to the ledge, pupils dilated when you didnât come back up. He chucked off his shirt, diving in after you.
Your head popped out above the foaming surface of the ocean, laughing madly as you wiped the water from his face. âI remembered I canât swim,â you gasped, gleefully holding onto Egonâs shoulders in an attempt to stay afloat. He blinked away salt from his eyes when there was the sound of a whistle from down the beach, making him hold you closer to himself.
Egon regarded the way moonlight bounced off your smiling face, seawater lapping around where you held him. Poisonous.

Author's Note: This is actually a little old (early 2022). I'm currently writing for a different piece of media BUT I thought "hey, why not post this now because...why not!" I've always been kinda shy to post my writing on the internet in general but to hell with it tbh ! Cringe culture must die and I love my blorbos past, present, and future too much lol
On AO3
It was a regular, snowy day in downtown New York. Ray was in the downstairs of the firehouse, fixing whatever new problem the Ecto-1 had come up with. Janine was reading some magazine with smart shopping tips while Louis was on the phone discussing taxes, the latter having piles of paperwork on his desk. Business during the holiday season usually slowed down, and that meant getting to spend more quality time with the guys. Peter and Winston were engaging in a friendly but competitive game of pool, and Egon was nowhere in sight. He mentioned something about âbringing a surpriseâ to the station, baffling everyone since Egon certainly wasnât the surprise type. You sat on the couch, head propped up by your hand, watching as Peter lined up his shot.
"I never understood this game," you said with a yawn.
Winston had a small laugh and shook his head. "It's alright, kid, neither does Pete."
"Hey!" The other man said as he thrust his cue stick, completely butchering the shot in the process. "I just don't play this game often enough, alright, Z? I got no practice,"
You and Winston share a laugh at the expense of your colleague, Peter placed his hand on his chest in feigned offense. Winston took his shot, clearly doing a better job than Peter as the other man had scowled as the ball went into the hole. As the two continue playing, the sound of familiar footsteps enters the second floor. Turning your head, you smile brightly as you finally see your boyfriend Egon. His back was turned, preoccupied with refilling the snack cabinet in the kitchen. As he rummaged through the seven eleven bag, you took the chance of slowly sneaking up behind him to give a surprise hug. The two men playing pool had paused their game to watch you, amused from the sight of seeing you crouch up behind their friend.
âGotcha!â You yelled as you wrapped your arms around Egonâs torso and chest, placing your chin on his shoulder. Unexpectedly, he was completely frozen, unlike how he would usually turn around to return the hug. Your expression quickly morphed into one of confusion as the seconds passed and he stayed completely still.
âAnyway, Elon, I want you to meet-â You whip your head to the left to see Egon standing next to Ray, both the men having mildly concerned looks on their faces.
â...(Y/N)?â The man you were hugging spoke, his voice only slightly different from Egonâs but you could tell it wasnât your boyfriend. Hastily taking your arms off him, you spew out apology after apology, face fully red.
âIâm so sorry! God I- I shouldâve known the second you didnât hug me back I-â
Elon waved his hand with a laugh, the other guys in the room except Egon cracking up as well. âNo matter, no matter, at least I know my little brother is well loved,â Elon took the liberty of pulling you in for a hug this time, and just like Egon he was surprisingly good at giving them.
Egonâs cheeks turn a light pink color from his brotherâs statement as he pulls you in for a hug and forehead kiss. Elon had headed over to the billiard table to greet the two men who ended their pool game. The mood in the room turned joyous as all the guys had not seen Elon in a while, making this occasion a real treat.
âSorry, Eggs, he really does look a lot like you,â you whispered. He smiles before putting his lips on yours, causing your face to go red once again. Getting kissed by Egon certainly did not get old no matter how many times it happens.
âItâs alright, (Y/N), I missed you too.â
Ray called out, âHey, lovebirds! Get over here before we finish all the pizza.â
You pull away from Egon and adjust his tie, taking his hand and walking over to the others to get a fresh slice of pizza.

You strike me as an only child, are you?
I've been told this multiple times, is it my solitary nature? My trailblazing attitude? My inventiveness? I wonder. Anyway, I am unfortunately not an only child, as I have an identical twin, named Elon Spengler. Everyone says we're identical and that they "could never tell us apart" but as the older one, by 3 minutes, I believe we couldn't be more different. Yes, we may look similar, may be employed in similarly named groups, (I attempted to sue him over "Wastebusters" but Peter, Winston, Ray, Janine and Louis all changed my mind. I still believe that was copyright infringement.), even similar names, but anyone who "can't tell us apart" simply isn't trying. Despite my aforementioned feelings about "Wastebusters", Elon is doing great work and occasionally I'm proud to be his brother. If you see this Elon, please give me back the straightened slinky, Dr Spengler. (p.s. Raymond is this what you meant by "getting more personal"?)

Crossing Streams
Summary:Â Eleni Daniels, botanist, librarian, and demigod...too many things if you were to ask her. She'd moved to New York in the hopes of finding monotony and an opportunity to lay low for a while. Her plan goes up in smoke when a group of wayward ghost hunters and scientists uproot her life, and when a certain always serious scientist piques her interest. And vice-versa.
Prologue
Sarpedon Year XXXX
A hooded figure made its way through the wastelands on Sarpedon. She barely made a sound as they walked on the graveled surface. Gravel met smooth stone as the ominous entrance to a harmless-looking cave came to view. Trepidation was not something she felt often, and fear is not an emotion that registers with her either. She had been summoned with urgency to this very cave. The hood-covered woman had no idea who the person to summon her was. Considering where she currently stood, however, she had a pretty good idea. Â
With her guard up, instincts on high alert, and hand on the hilt of her blade, the woman proceeded to enter the cave. She was first met with the sleeping figures of Stheno and Euryale in a corner deeply shrouded in shadow. Walking into the cave freely was a risk, doing so at night when every shadow moves are asking for trouble. She tiptoed to the back where a smaller entrance was and walked in.
Unbeknownst to the newcomer, a blindfolded little girl, barely 6 years of age, felt her quiet footsteps as she walked. Â
Just as quietly, if not more so, the little girl made her way to her mother where she lay in wait for her guest.
âMama, sheâs come,â the little girl whispered, reaching her motherâs tail. Â
âMy Eleni,â her motherâs soothing voice hissed warmly, her tail wrapping gently around her hatchling, pulling her close, âKnow that above all, you are my light, my love, and my spirit. No matter where you are, I shall always be with you.â
Medusa had indeed caught sight of theirâŠguest. And in good time too, her sistersâ would not have taken kindly to their guest had they been awake. Not that they take kindly to anyone for that matter.
Eleniâs face was fixed where her motherâs voice was coming from. She reached up and was met with the tiny hisses of her hair as they wrapped themselves around her smaller hands.
Medusa gazed at her daughter, a look of pure heartbreak on her features. She didnât want to do this, she didnât want to send her only child away. But she feels her time is coming to an end, and sheâd rather die with the knowledge that Eleni is safe than die knowing her daughter, an innocent, will be killed for nothing.
âItâs nesting time,â Medusa said, pressing her forehead to Eleniâs.
Medusa hugged her daughter and slithered to a semi-closed-off area that had a heavily cushioned area and blankets in one corner and a stone oven for warmth.
âSleep my lovely one,â Medusa urged gently, tucking Eleni under the blanket.
âI love you, mama,â Eleni whispered, falling asleep.
Medusa gently pulled away the blindfold off and just stared at her. Eleni looked as she did before she was cursed. Brown hair, golden highlights, fair skin, and the most tender heart sheâd ever met. Much too tender yet for what was to come. This done, Medusa slithered quietly out of her childâs alcove to the main cave that made up their home. She found the hooded figure walking around, on surprisingly light feet, her stance on guard and shield aloft using it as a mirror.
âClever girl,â Medusa thought, an impressed smirk on her face.
âI thought you would not come,â Medusa said, voice resonating through the cavern, her tone neutral and non-violent.
âI summoned,â the hooded woman said, voice guarded and gaze averted, âDo you not believe I would not come to someone who needs my aid?â
âNo,â Medusa softly replied, âI feared youâd not come when you realized who it was that summoned you.â
The womanâs stance neutralized some, yet Medusa could clearly see she was very much still on the defensive.
âWhy did you?â Came the curious query.
Medusa sighed looking in the direction of her daughterâs alcove, showing a momentary moment of vulnerability⊠and weakness. Which would have proven fatal were it not for the hooded womanâs careful conclusions on what she was observing.
âMyâŠdaughter,â said Medusa, voice tender and a quiet resignation in her eyes, âI need you to take her from this place.â
âMedusa!?â Gasped the woman, astounded.
âAdanna,â Medusa firmly snapped, snakes hissing in warning, âMy time is limited, and I will not have my daughter killed for being just that. She may not have been born of the bestâŠmeans, but she is mine and I adore her with my entire being. You know as well as I that I can and will protect my child to my dying breath. I care not what happens to me, my lady. However, no child mine nor any otherâs deserves to see or hear their mother. She also does not deserve to be hunted and killed for being my offspring.â
Adanna looked at Medusa through her shield, astonishment clear on her normally neutral features. She saw the passion on the Gorgonâs face, the devotion she holds for her daughterâs safety. Adanna could also see desperation under the passionate front. Because she knew, she knew Medusa was right, some hero would kill the child all because of her association with her mother.
Through their conversation, Eleni had woken up to her motherâs elevated tone. Sensing her unease, Eleni made her way out of her room, placing her blindfold firmly on and hid behind a boulder looking on as her mother the stranger spoke. Â
âYou must take her⊠I am begging you please,â Eleni heard her mother, fear, and sadness dripping from each word.
âWhy?â Asked the soft voice of a woman. The question was not maliciously asked, but curious, âWhy do you want me to take her?â
Her mother gave a sad and utterly destroyed sigh, âBecause you know what itâs like to be the child of a God and be treated like nothing despite you yourself being an innocent.â
Adanna gasped, her eyes wide as Medusaâs implications became clear.
âI know all about you Adanna of Egypt, adopted daughter of Anubis,â said Medusa silkily, knowingly, yet not unkindly, âThe daughter of Hades and an Amazon.â
âHe is nothing of mine,â Adanna growled.
âThat is the fire I want my child raised in!â Medusa excitedly exclaimed, âSheâs already been exposed to my unique ability. She is strong Adanna, stronger than even I could possibly imagine.â
Adanna looked at Medusa through her shield, face in clear view of the women each imparting on the other meaning through one last silent conversation. Finally, Adanna relented with a nod.
âSheâs behind a bolder,â said Adanna, her stance relaxing fully as Medusa turned to find her daughter right where the amazon said she was.
âEleni,â Medusa gently called.
The seven-year-old walked to her mother, hands balled into tight fists at her side.
âI will not go,â the child stated.
âYou must my child,â Medusa replied, eyes glistening as tears gathered, âFor your protection, you must. Adanna, you remember the stories yes? Adanna will show you things I cannot.â
âI can fight mama! I can protect you too!â The child shrieked, the little composure she had falling as the reality of her departure came to fruition.
âIt is not about you protecting me or not my little snakeling,â Medusa said gently, her tail wrapping around her daughter to carry her to her arms.
Eleni felt her motherâs arms around her and immediately wound her little arms around her neck.
âI donât want to go,â the little girl whimpered.
âAnd I donât want to send you away,â Medusa said, gently but no less bluntly, pulling back to look at Eleni, âRemember what we talked about?â
âThe bad men?â Eleni queried, her blindfold wet from tears, âThey are bad men out there looking for you and your sisters. ToâŠto kill you.â
âThat is correct,â Medusa confirmed, âNot all of them are bad my love. Men at times must kill to provide and protect. Does that mean that they are all bad? No.â
Eleniâs bottom lip trembled, whimpers leaving her as she lunged to hold her mother tight once more.
âYou need you to live,â Medusa stated, âI need you to lead a full and happy life. Do not let anyone tell you you cannot do anything. You are equal to, if not better than they are, and can do things they can just as well.â
Adanna looked on, thinking of her own mother and stepfather. How they both raised her to be the best she could be, no matter her gender, race, or anyoneâs thoughts. She found herself with a newfound respect for Medusa, and a newfound coldness towards Athena. Â
âIâll give you some time,â the amazon said, leaving them to have their moment.
âNo,â Medusa called, sadness in her voice, âTo prolong our farewell is to torture both of us. I will gather her belongings.â
With this said, Medusa went to Eleniâs room, child in her arms to pack.
The little girl did not have much in belongings per se. She had a few dresses and sandals she wore on the daily along with a few scrolls and simple toys. Medusa packed the clothing and shoes, the scroll sheâd read to her, and a coronet that belonged to her when she was human. Â
Eleni for her part was silent throughout the ordeal, her hold on her mother tight as she packed. Â
âWill she love me as you do?â Eleni quietly asked.
Medusa stopped as she slithered out, a thoughtful hum leaving her before she spoke, âI think she will. Adanna is not one to not keep her promises, sheâs different my little one.â
âLike me?â Eleni asked curiously.
âYes,â Medusa smiled, âLike you.â
Adanna knelt to the childâs height as she saw them approach and said, âThough Medusa shall forever be your mother, you have my word and most solemn vow, that I will treat and raise you as my own.â
Medusaâs eyes watered as she nodded her thanks, and placed Eleni on her feet before the Amazon.
âClose your eyes,â Medusa ordered.
Adanna did as was commanded and waited. She held her ground as the feeling of a scaled hand met her upper arm under her cloak. The gesture was appreciated knowing this was without a doubt the hardest thing any mother could do for their child. The hand ran down to her wrist where Adanna felt Medusa raise it about halfway. What she had not expected was the small hand that met her own. Â
Eleniâs small hand trembled as she met the other womanâs, nerves clear a she was introduced to the unknown. The little girl expected this to be it, for this to be the introduction and have it be done. Â
âMay I hug you?â Adanna asked tenderly, surprising the little girl.
Eleni nodded hesitantly at first, taking small steps forward.
Adanna took great care when she embraced Eleni for the first time. She half expected her to pull away back to her mother. But was surprised by the sheer strength of this tiny person a she held onto her for dear life.
âDo you know what your mother looks like?â Adanna asked carefully.
Eleni nodded from her place on Adannaâs shoulder.
Medusaâs eyes widened at the implication the Amazon was making and nodded reluctantly.
âI believe every mother deserves to see their childâs eyes,â Adanna stated, a gentle smile on her face, âYou are no exception.â
Adanna gently pulled away from the little girl and gently took off her blindfold.
Eleni blinked, her eyes adjusting to the usual low light of the cave. Her eyes settled on Adanna who smiled gently at her.
âYou are so pretty!â Eleni exclaimed, eyes wide.
Medusa looked on satisfied, that her gut feeling came to fruition, and that her daughter would be in the best of hands.
âLook at the shield little one,â Adanna said tenderly nodding to the shield behind the child.
Eleni did as told, fighting the urge to fully turn and face her mother.
Medusa gasped, hands went to cover her mouth as her eyes met Eleniâs for the first time.
âYou look just like your mother,â Adanna said, pleased, her father would not be easily identifiable from her looks in years to come.
Medusa stared now crying in earnest. Her daughter is a stark reminder of what she looked like when she was a mere human priestess, and she couldnât be more grateful. Her daughter would be a woman of both strength and beauty, she would represent something great⊠She can feel it in her scales.
âThank you, my lady,â said a grateful Medusa, bowing in gratitude to have seen her child. It would be enough to carry her for as long as she had.
Adanna stood from her kneeling position and bowed in respect. She took Eleniâs hand in one of hers and accepted the pack given to her by Medusa. She noticed a necklace with an amulet around it, looked at Medusa, and nodded in understanding. Memories are precious, and if there was anything to pass down that would be as close to it as the Gorgon would get.
The pair left, Eleni's chin in the air as she tried to be strong.
Medusa watched as the pair walked out of her home a sad look on her face as tears kept falling from her eyes. Â
âGood luck my Eleni âŠâ
