Daphne lived in a very sheltered household before the infected, as well as being very far from most other people. She mostly had to rely on herself and her family, so she would be incredibly hesitant, maybe even shy to meet the fellow survivors. Once feeling at ease with them however, Daphne is more likely to try and protect them as they do with her.

Coach and Ellis: Met both around the same time; grew up in similar environments (georgia and alabama being right next to each other) and having similar incentives to survive.

Rochelle: Live in different environments but manage to get along despite that (all three probably picked daphne like the group of extroverts would with a introvert-)

Nick: Personalities clash very often; environments are very different and Nick probably tried to steal her wallet when they first met.

Ellie stared at the puzzle piece in her hand. “But there are like a thousand of them.”

“Five hundred.” Joel pointed at the box. “Did FEDRA not bother teaching you to read?”

She made a face at him. “There are so many.” She collapsed her body across the table, covering the puzzle, her voice becoming muffled. “Joel, why would we do this?”

He grabbed the back of her hoodie, pulling her upright again. “It’s fun.”

Ellie looked through the pieces again, picking one up and jamming it in a place where it definitely should have fit. “Is it??”

Joel sighed, finally giving up on a piece that he had been trying to shove into a spot. “I don’t know, kiddo. But this is the kind of thing we can do now.”

Months of fighting for their lives, of constant tension, of never knowing if they’d ever see anything resembling safety again. And now, they had the time and freedom to rest. To do puzzles. To decide they hated puzzles.

“We can put it-“

“Aha!” Ellie shouted triumphantly. She had found a piece that she’d been working on for a while. She poked the piece again, turning to grin up at Joel. He smiled down at her, picking up another piece.

They worked in silence for a couple of minutes.

“Hey Joel?” Ellie asked quietly. She kept trying a piece in a couple of different places.

He didn’t look up from the pieces he was searching through. “Yeah, kiddo?”

“What if it seems like a piece fits and you think it fits, but later you figure out it doesn’t?”

Joel frowned, looking over at her.

“What if you make this whole beautiful picture, but then you realize that one of the pieces doesn’t belong there at all?” She was still staring down at the puzzle, her hand idly picking up pieces and putting them back down without trying them in the puzzle.

Joel put his arm around her, tucking her into him. “No, that doesn’t happen.” He kissed her temple as she laid her head on his shoulder.

“How do you know?”

“’Cause that beautiful picture is only possible because that piece is there.”

I couldn’t figure out a good outfit, so I lent into it being wild mostly because I had nine green crayons and the challenge was to use all of them. Then I thought I could go easy on blue with a simple sundress! THEN I SAID FUCK IT

Indigo is one colour so I thought I should keep it simple, then her ARM grew back so I had to scratch it out. Sorry Ellie!
