Well. Fuck. My very first therapist might have been right when she was like “mmm… I think you have Clinically Diagnosable Issues with food, weight, and body image” and I was like “lol no let’s talk about how depressed I am, I don’t have issues with food lol”
(She was also right about Q being abusive when I was in denial about that too, so… shit)
I’ve only been like 50% serious when I was like “lol orthorexia feels like it fits” but given how much of my day it ruins when I have to get weighed and I no longer weigh 140 lbs, or how personally I take it when I’m told my blood pressure is slightly high (I was at 122/86 on Thursday, which is SO SLIGHTLY above the high normal range, but I was already feeling Attacked that I Had To Remember) or my cholesterol is slightly high (again, last time it was measured it was like two points above high normal) or even (ffs) when I’ve gotten random UTIs that don’t have a clear origin
So there’s CLEARLY a lot of Anxiety there at the very least, coupled with how much it also ruined my day when I was trying to alleviate some of the anxiety (or prove it was right and I was Very Bad) by using myfitnesspal to log my food, no matter how much I tried to ignore or adjust the calories to make it not yell at me
Plus all of the RULES I make for myself (today I had ice cream for part of my lunch and poptarts for breakfast, therefore no sweets for the rest of the day and maybe not tomorrow either) around food. Plus how you know, the only people who have ever seen fit to comment on how my body looks/how fat I am/how I’m going to eat myself into diabetes one day are the two abusive exes and my mother, NONE of whom are good for my mental health in the first place for various other reasons… no fucking wonder when I finally stood up for myself at the drs office last week and said “no thanks I don’t want to be weighed at all” I burst into tears when the med assistant was like “well… we NEED to” and “[Dr] really wants us to… I’ll talk to her but you’ll probably need to get on the scale”. No wonder my stomach churns when scone talks about how he’s allowed certain amounts of carbs during the day and is gleeful about how many calories he burns during exercise and how much weight he’s lost (because wtf is wrong with me why can’t /i/ be that disciplined and drop the weight I want to get rid of to not have it hanging over my head and be presumed to be in fine physical condition)
ANYWAY!!! Time to go home for dinner and make some quesadillas and refried beans (fat, minimal carbs, protein, fiber, vegetables)!! Why must we introspect and come to conclusions about our beliefs about ourselves!!! God!!!

Oh!!! I tried a new class at the gym tonight, and one of the ladies is someone who’s also in my dance class, but we’ve never talked. I was wearing an old roller derby tournament shirt and she sees it as we’re getting our mats set out and goes ‘is that roller derby?? I used to do the rec league here!’ !!!!!!!!
I really want to join the rec league but they practice outside, and it’s in the morning, but summer mornings are fucking hot already so I’m putting it off til the fall lol

You take a deep breath as you push open the door to the gym. The smell of rubber mats and metal weights fills your nose.
It’s early — the sun is just starting to peek through the windows — and the gym is mostly empty, except for a few dedicated early morning regulars on the cardio machines.
Across the room, you spot Oscar on the weight floor. He’s doing barbell hip thrusts, clanging the weights up and down with each rep. His trainer Kim stands over him, stopwatch in hand, counting out the seconds between sets.
You take a moment just to watch Oscar train. His brow is furrowed in concentration, his muscles flexing and contracting with each thrust. He’s wearing those tiny Nike running shorts you bought him last month, the ones that show off his sculpted quads and glutes.
You can’t help but stare a little bit. Okay, a lot. Your boyfriend’s butt looks amazing.
“57… 58 … 59 ...” Kim counts. “Good, take 30 seconds.”
Oscar racks the barbell and sits up, grabbing his water bottle. His eyes catch yours across the room and his face lights up in a smile.
“Hey babe!” He calls out, waving you over.
You weave your way past the ellipticals and weight machines until you’re standing next to him.
“Hey yourself,” you lean down to give him a quick peck. “You’re looking strong this morning.”
“Just trying to get some strength training in before Kim puts me through the ringer later,” Oscar says. “We’ve got the season starting up so I really need to be on my game.”
He takes a long swig from his water bottle as Kim jots down notes on his clipboard.
“So what brings you to the gym so early?” Oscar asks. “I didn’t think 6 am workouts were your thing.”
You shrug. “I was up early and thought maybe we could do breakfast after you’re done?”
“Sounds good to me,” Oscar nods.
Kim clears his throat. "30 seconds are up, time to go again.”
“Duty calls,” Oscar says, getting back into position on the bench.
You step back to give him space, but stay close to chat. Oscar grips the barbell and hoists it up into position over his hips. You glance at the plates stacked on either end, doing some quick math in your head.
“Seems like that’s heavier than last time I dropped by,” you can’t help but comment.
“Sure is,” Kim says proudly before Oscar can respond. “We increased the weight since last week. Gotta keep increasing the load to build muscle.”
You stare at the barbell plates again. Exactly your body weight. Which means ...
Oscar is doing hip thrusts with the equivalent of you lying on top of him.
A little flutter goes through your stomach at the thought. You try to push it aside though. Obviously he isn’t thinking of it that way, it’s just part of his training regimen that Kim has him on. Still, you can’t help but visualize it for a moment.
“Alright, here we go,” Kim says. “Three sets of twenty reps, and … go!”
Oscar begins thrusting the barbell up in controlled motions, breathing out with each lift. You try not to stare, but your eyes keep flicking back to the movement of his hips. There’s something about watching your boyfriend’s pelvis go up and down right in front of you that’s making it hard to look away.
After twenty reps Oscar racks the barbell again. His chest is heaving a little from the exertion.
“Nice work,” Kim says. “How’d that feel?”
“Good,” Oscar says between breaths. “Definitely feeling the burn.”
He catches your eye and must notice you blushing because he adds with a wink, “Enjoying the show, babe?”
You feel your cheeks flush even more. “What? No! I mean, yes? I just … never mind ...” you stammer.
Oscar grins knowingly and takes another sip of water.
Over the next two sets, you try your best not to gawk. You remind yourself that this is serious training. Oscar is an athlete and you need to be respectful.
But still … when he’s finished his final set and Kim tells him to take a longer rest, you can’t help yourself.
“So, the weight you’re thrusting, huh?” You say, trying to sound casual. “That’s kind of a coincidence ...”
“What do you mean?” Oscar asks.
You glance at Kim, who is occupied on his phone. In a lower voice you say, “Well, it’s exactly what I weigh.”
Oscar’s eyebrows shoot up in surprise. “Oh! I didn’t even realize.” A sly grin crosses his face. “Hey, you’re totally right.”
You take a step closer to him, emboldened. “So basically you’re doing hip thrusts with me on top of you.”
Oscar lets out a startled laugh. “When you put it that way ...”
“I have to admit the thought crossed my mind while I was watching you,” you say. You run a hand slowly up his arm. “I think you’re the hottest thing I’ve ever seen.”
Oscar swallows hard, his eyes darkening. “Yeah?” He asks quietly.
You nod, feeling suddenly shy under his intense gaze.
He reaches out and takes your hand, rubbing his thumb in circles over your skin. “Well I can promise you, the real thing is a hundred times better than any training exercise.”
You lace your fingers through his, reveling in his touch. “Why don’t you remind me later?” You ask boldly.
Oscar leans in, his breath hot on your ear. “It would be my pleasure.”
A little shiver runs down your spine at the promise in his words. You want to kiss him right here in the middle of the gym, but Kim finally looks up from his phone.
“Alright, time’s up! Let’s keep moving.”
Oscar gives you a sheepish look as he releases your hand. “Duty calls once again. But rain check for later?”
“Absolutely.” You wink and take a step back so he can get into position for his next set.
You try to pay more attention to his form as he does the next round of hip thrusts. But this time, your mind keeps wandering to what those hips could do under different circumstances. Judging by the smoldering looks Oscar keeps shooting your way between sets, you’re pretty sure he’s thinking the same thing.
By the last set, there’s an obvious tension and heat between you. Oscar holds your gaze as he finishes the final reps, his hips rising and falling rhythmically. You bite your lip, no longer even trying to hide your desire. You want him, and you want him now.
Finally Kim calls time and tells Oscar to start his cool down stretches. As he reaches for his toes, back arched, you sidle up behind him.
“I think you need to stretch out some other muscles too,” you murmur in his ear. “I’d be happy to assist with that later.”
Oscar straightens up with a groan. “You’re killing me here, babe. As soon as we get home ...”
You grin up at him innocently. “Yes?”
He kisses you heatedly, not caring that Kim is still packing up his things nearby. “Why don’t you head out and get breakfast started for us?” He suggests. “I’ll be there as soon as I can.”
You bite your lip as you back away slowly. “Don’t keep me waiting too long.”
You toss one last flirty wave over your shoulder as you leave the gym, heart racing. You have a feeling breakfast might be the last thing on both of your minds when Oscar gets home. But you love teasing each other like this — it always makes your time together even hotter.
As you drive home, you can’t stop replaying those images of Oscar doing hip thrusts in your mind. Maybe you should start joining those early morning workouts more often …

You can barely concentrate as you drive back home. You and Oscar have always had an adventurous and flirtatious relationship, but that encounter at the gym took things to a whole new level.
When you get home, you quickly tidy up the bedroom and kitchen to get things ready for when Oscar arrives. You take a fast shower, letting the hot water relax your excited nerves.
Slipping into a silky robe, you head to the kitchen to start preparing breakfast. You chop fruit, arrange multigrain toast and toppings on a platter, and squeeze fresh orange juice, trying to make everything look as appetizing as possible. Not that food is really on your mind right now, but you want to set the scene perfectly.
Just as you’re pouring two cups of coffee, you hear the front door open. Oscar calls out your name, his voice sending a thrill through your whole body.
“In here!” You call back, straining to keep your tone neutral even as your pulse quickens.
Oscar strides into the kitchen and pauses, eyes sweeping over you hungrily as he takes in the robe and the breakfast you’ve laid out.
“This looks amazing, babe,” he says appreciatively. He comes over and kisses you tenderly. “Thank you for doing all this.”
You smile up at him, arms encircling his neck. “Least I could do after that little show you put on for me. Now come sit down and eat before it gets cold.”
You both take a seat at the kitchen island, filling your plates with fruit, pastries and eggs. The domesticity of sharing a meal together contrasts wildly with the tension still charging the air between you.
Oscar asks about your morning as you eat, keeping the conversation light. But his foot slowly trails up your calf under the table, making your breath hitch. You tell him about your plans to meet up with some friends later in the week. His hand finds your knee, fingers lightly grazing your bare skin. You ask him how training is going, trying to keep your voice even as your whole body tingles.
By the time you’ve both cleaned your plates, you’re squirming in your seat, heart pounding with anticipation. The second Oscar pushes his plate away, you surge forward to kiss him hungrily. All pretense of small talk is dropped — you want him now.
Oscar responds immediately, his strong arms pulling you tight against him as he kisses you deeply. You run your hands over the hard muscles of his chest and arms, feeling them flex and relax under your touch.
“Take me to bed,” you whisper in his ear.
In one smooth motion, Oscar stands and lifts you up into his arms. You wrap your legs around his waist as he carries you effortlessly to the bedroom and lays you down on the bed, his athletic body hovering tantalizingly over yours.
You run your hands up under his shirt, feeling the ripple of abs and obliques. Oscar lets you pull it up over his head before capturing your mouth again, kissing you ravenously.
“Need to feel you,” he groans, hands fumbling to untie your robe. He pushes the silk aside reverently, eyes roaming over your exposed body with undisguised longing.
You arch up into him, gasping as your overheated skin meets his. Oscar kisses down your neck to your collarbone, hands gliding up your ribcage to caress your breasts. You moan his name, back bowing off the bed at the sensation.
“You’re so beautiful,” Oscar murmurs, lips continuing their descent. “I’ve been thinking about this all morning.”
You smile, combing your fingers through his hair. “Well then stop thinking and start doing.”
Oscar laughs, his warm breath fanning over your stomach. “Yes ma’am.”
He kisses lower, fingers trailing down your thighs to nudge them apart. You let your legs fall open with a pleasured sigh, back arching in anticipation.
Oscar starts slow, kissing and licking with delicate flicks of his tongue that have you squirming for more. He grips your hips, holding you still as he finally puts his mouth on you fully.
You cry out as he brings you right to the edge, only to pause and ease up again, keeping you balancing at the precipice.
“Oscar,” you moan urgently.
He smiles against you, knowing exactly what he’s doing to your body. When he finally takes pity on you, the climax rockets through you powerfully, leaving you trembling and breathless.
You pull Oscar up to meet your lips again, tasting yourself on him. “Your turn,” you whisper.
He groans as you quickly flip him onto his back and kiss your way down his taut body. You pull off his shorts torturously slowly, trailing your tongue along his hip crease in a way you know drives him wild.
Finally you take him into your mouth, noting how he’s already hard and straining for you. You smile around him, working him with your lips and tongue until his hips are bucking uncontrollably.
“I need you. I need to be inside you,” Oscar gasps, stilling you.
You release him reluctantly and crawl back up his muscular frame to kiss him hungrily. Oscar grips your hips and then you’re sinking down onto him, crying out at the delicious fullness.
You move together urgently, the restrained desire from earlier in the gym bubbling over as your bodies join again and again. Oscar’s fingers dig into the curves of your hips as he guides you up and down. You brace your hands on his sculpted chest, grinding your hips in little circles that make you both moan.

You sneak into the steamy bathroom behind him. Through the frosted glass door you can see the outline of his muscular frame under the cascade of water.
Silently, you drop your robe and step into the shower behind him. Oscar turns under the stream, eyes lighting up as he sees you.
“Well hello there,” he grins. “Come here often?”
You press your naked body against his slick skin. “I missed you already.”
Oscar’s arms wrap around you as his lips find yours. “I think we have time for round two before I have to get ready for the afternoon,” he murmurs suggestively.
You smile and reach for the body wash, lathering up your hands. “Better get started then.”
Oscar groans appreciatively as your soapy hands glide over his shoulders and down his chest. You take your time relearning every hard ridge and valley of his athletic physique, paying special attention to the areas still sensitive from your earlier activities.
The combination of cascading water and roaming hands quickly has Oscar hard again. This time he lifts you, pressing your back against the cool tile wall as your legs lock around his hips.
You cry out in bliss at the new angle as he enters you. Oscar braces one hand on the wall and slips the other between you, resuming his earlier attentions. The dual sensation makes your eyes roll back in ecstasy.
“Yes, yes, don’t stop,” you gasp, raking your nails down his back.
Oscar increases his pace, thumb working you relentlessly as he snaps his hips. You feel the pleasure coiling tighter and tighter until it crests explosively, just as Oscar tenses and finds his own peak.
You cling together, slick and sated under the warm spray. Eventually Oscar carefully lowers your weakened legs back to the shower floor, keeping an arm around your waist to support you.
“Okay, now I really need to get ready to head out,” he chuckles.
You sigh contentedly. “Fine, but only if you promise more later.”
Oscar drops a kiss to your shoulder. “Oh I’ll definitely take you up on that.”
As you exit the shower on shaky legs, you exchange a grin. Looks like early morning workouts are going to become a permanent part of your routine from now on.

Hey. HEY. We aren’t good at understanding how bodies work. I spent five years in undergrad (I was indecisive; graduated with six years’ worth of credits), two in my terminal master’s program, four in med school, and three more in residency. I know a whole lot about how bodies work. I am qualified to tell you that we don’t know a lot more than we do know.
This means that, when you encounter a claim, you need to weigh it against what you have experienced.
I have met doctors who were sure fibromyalgia, or “muscle hurty disease,” from the roots of the word, was just women being crazy. Turns out it’s probably at least partly due to autoimmune dysfunction. Or maybe not! Sure would be nice if we knew! But I sure as shit know it’s real, because I have it and so do the women in my family. Our bodies don’t work right, somehow. They don’t work like other people’s bodies work. I experience more pain than I “should” based on what stimuli other people find painful. I have less ability to build and maintain muscle strength. This has not kept me from doing what I love most in the world, which is have opinions, to the point where I went through the horrifically awful process that is medical training in the US just so I could have opinions all day long and get paid for it. I gain nothing from saying I have it, and in fact risk the opinions of my professional peers if I do admit to it, since it is still seen as a disease of mental or moral weakness. I’m perfectly qualified to self-diagnose, as a board-certified family physician.
And yet I believed people in positions of authority for a long, long time who said it was a mental illness and not a bodily one. As if those even can be distinct, when our brains are part of our bodies and our experience of reality is filtered through their circuitry. But I believed that I was somehow to blame for being in pain.
Life has been better since I accepted that I just need to do some things differently. If I lift weights, I need to use machines, I need to start on the lowest possible setting, and I need to increase very gradually. If I do cardio, I need a low-impact model like an elliptical trainer; running outside, every time I have tried it in my life, results in incapacitating shin splints, even if I try to work up slowly. I no longer buy laundry bins that don’t roll. My home is all on one level. I go to physical therapy. I stash freezer dinners that contain (shudder) vegetables, my least favorite thing, so that when I do feel like shit, I have an alternative to starving (or eating a block of cheese that upsets my stomach).
Accommodate yourself. This society isn’t going to help much, if at all. In your good times and days, be the person whose help you’ll need in your worst days.

You and K’sante walk into the place where you all decided to meet at, a nice bar down the street from their studio. In the lively and joyful bar, vibrant multicolored lights swirled and danced across the dimly lit room, casting playful patterns on the walls. The air was filled with the infectious melodies of a live band, their music resonating through the venue, prompting patrons to tap their feet and sway to the rhythm.
Laughter and animated conversations echoed throughout the bar as friends clinked glasses filled with various colorful cocktails and frothy pints of beer. The bartender expertly mixed drinks, occasionally performing dazzling flair moves to the cheers and applause of the crowd.
People of all ages and backgrounds filled the space, sharing stories and forming connections as they celebrated life's moments, both big and small. The overall atmosphere exuded an irresistible sense of camaraderie, making the bar a place where happiness and merriment were in abundance.
The guy who looked like he had a severe case of pink eye, waved his arms and yelled to get K’sante’s attention “Yo meathead! Over here!” Your boyfriend chuckled in response and held your hand to lead you to where you would meet your new friends.
K’sante, visibly proud and enthusiastic, took the initiative to introduce you to the members of the band, who were seated around a long, well-worn wooden table.
Their expressions bathed in the warm, amber glow of the hanging light fixtures, reached out with welcoming gestures and exchanged friendly hellos with you. The close-knit bond among them was evident, and the lively atmosphere of the bar only heightened the feeling of togetherness.
After talking for what felt like hours, the guy who introduced himself as ‘Ezreal’ asked “how'd you two meet?”
You sighed dreamily as you recalled your first meeting with him.

You were on a journey of self improvement, and honestly you were doing pretty good! Well… there was just one thing you couldn't get yourself to do… working out.. You weren't much of a physical person, you preferred to read fanfictions on the couch rather than the feeling of sweat sticking to your clothes. You kept telling yourself ’oh i'll go tomorrow!’ and then you never went. (Procrastination at its finest.)
Until a fateful day, you asked one of your more, physical oriented friends to accompany you to the gym.
In the bustling gym, the air was charged with energy and determination. Rows of cardio machines lined one side of the expansive, well-lit space, with people pounding away on treadmills and elliptical trainers, their faces glistening with sweat as they pushed their limits.
The weightlifting area was a symphony of clinking metal, grunts, and focused concentration. Athletes of all levels hoisted heavy barbells, their muscles straining under the effort, while others fine-tuned their form with dumbbells and resistance machines. Mirrors on the walls reflected the dedication etched on their faces as they sought to sculpt their bodies.
In one corner, an enthusiastic group engaged in a high-intensity fitness class, following the trainer's lead with precision. The beat of heart-pounding music filled the room as participants jumped, squatted, and lunged in unison.
Around the gym, trainers offered guidance and motivation to their clients, providing support and advice. Water bottles, towels, and gym bags were scattered throughout, a testament to the hard work and commitment of those striving for better health and fitness.
The atmosphere was one of resilience and determination, where individuals of all backgrounds came together with a shared goal: to push their physical boundaries and pursue a healthier, stronger version of themselves, you wanted to be like that too! And if you wanted to be like that, then you must put in the work!
You pulled up your workout routine, and it said that you had to do ‘pull ups’ whatever that meant.. After googling how to do it you reached up and.. Wait.. YOU CANT EVEN REACH THE BAR!
You jumped, your hands trying to clutch onto the pull up bar, but then.. You felt a tap on your shoulder.
You turn around and you are met with the most glorious sight. A very handsome, dark-skinned sweaty, beefy man, He exudes confidence and a friendly demeanor.
With a charming smile, he offers his assistance, understanding your hesitation. He places his strong hand on your back, providing support as he guides you toward the pull-up bars. His touch is reassuring, and you can feel the warmth of his encouragement.
With a nod and a few words of encouragement, he helps you grab onto the bar, ensuring your grip is secure. As you begin your pull-ups, his presence and assistance give you the extra boost of confidence you need to tackle the exercise. You can't help but appreciate the combination of his physical strength and the kind support he's offered, making your workout a more enjoyable and motivating experience.

“In short… he was basically my motivation to go to the gym 3 days a week..” You said smiling.
“I’m flattered my love!” K’sante’s boisterous laugh had infected the others.
As the evening unfolded, everyone shared stories and laughter, marking the beginning of a new connection between K’sante's two worlds: his beloved band and his partner, you. It was a heartwarming moment, where music, friendship, and love converged in the heart of the bar.

By the way I try not to let these things affect me, I know I struggle with health issues and challenges that others don't, and it's completely different work outs and styles. But I struggled so much at level 1 on the elliptical, then 3, and now 4, and while I think maybe soon I could bump up to 5, least for the first 10 minutes, it may be an occasional thing. But yeah, the resistance levels at those levels are enough for me that they are draining and hard to fight. I also kinda assumed that 10 was the max
Yet today on the elliptical, someone was getting training beside me and I thought I heard the PT say something about level 14, but then I thought nah, that must be wrong. Then I heard him say 16 and I just again thought I misheard. But when I looked, sure enough the person on the machine was at level 16. Like I'm struggling to get to level 5, and she was on level 16? I have noticed that people tend to get off the ellipticals at 5-15 minutes, whereas I do 30 in total, 10 then 20 (used to just do straight 30 no breaks). So if people are doing these higher levels, it's shorter times, and again I try to remind myself it's different capabilities and different lengths in the fitness journey. But I have been feeling proud of myself with the cardio and weight machines I am doing, I have built up a lot and I am proud of what I am achieving, but then seeing someone use a machine at 12 resistance levels higher than I am doing, and have struggled to reach, levels I didn't even know existed. Yeah, it did get to me a bit
I haven't really weighed myself or took measurements, and that's sorta why. It happened again today, I was so exhausted I passed out a lil when I got back home. Like going every other day and doing what I'm doing, it truly is my limit and takes my all, it's why I burn out and crash if enough of my rest days get taken up by other things. But I know realistically, although I am pushing myself as a person, I know factually I probably haven't done enough to lose any weight, especially a significant amount, and if I checked and saw that, it'd be so damaging to me and my motivation. It's just frustrating and kinda leaves you defeated, when everything is so much harder for you and you are giving something your all, yet it's 10% of what other people manage, and it's 10% of what you actually need to be doing. I am hoping I am getting there losing weight, it's just probably gonna be slower than what it could be, but I'm hoping I'm getting there

Man, if I just had the physical healthiness it takes to physically get things done, my life would be so much better.
Like the economic circumstances would still be shitty but goddammit if I wasn't chronically uncomfortable and in pain so much and doing one simple physical task didn't diminish my entire stamina... my room would be clean, my laundry would be done, my bedroom would actually be the sanctuary space I've got designed in my mind and I could work extra shifts if my body could physically handle it. So much of what's wrong with my life is physical discomfort ALL the time and not having the stamina to deal with the discomfort and physical pain that comes with exertion. Not to mention not having access to genuinely good Healthcare that isn't designed to do bare minimum for high profits...
I just wanna have more energy. But so much of my energy is spent on simply dealing with pain and discomfort due to chronic arthritis, fibromyalgia, and nerve pain.
About 5 months ago I bought an elliptical machine real cheap on sale. It's sitting in a box in my parents garage because I am not capable of moving it upstairs. Nor am I physically capable of rearranging the furniture in my bedroom to make space for it. I need another family member's help moving big things. I am barely able to lift a 40lb bag of cat litter because of how much my body physically sucks. It sucks when you're slightly disabled and you get a piece of equipment that could potentially help better your condition (losing a bit of weight and getting some cardio exercise would lessen my chronic pain) but you need so much help from others to even get the equipment set up in the first place. I've deep cleaned my room a few times since I've gotten that elliptical but I often work weekends and my brother, the one who can help me rearrange furniture, works the days I'm off. And on the days off we have had allign, we've both been too physically exhausted from work that we procrastinate and put off what needs done (my brother works a very physically demanding factory job and I hate to ask for his physical help on his only 2 days off per week).
I've been applying to other jobs here and there but so far haven't had anything worthwhile. I'm certainly not going to leave 1 part time job for another when the one I have not only pays more but pays for my lunch and I love and get along well with all my colleagues and managers.
The thing is, I could work full time, IF I could PHYSICALLY get through a 8-10 hour shift 4 or 5 days at a time. I've made the unfortunate discovery, time and time again, that when I force my body to work past its breaking point, I end up hospitalized because I have lyme disease which flares up when I stress my body out too much. I inevitably stop sleeping, the chronic pain gets unbearable, and the next thing I know, I'm waking up in a psych ward because I stopped sleeping again due to too much physical and mental stress. It's extremely debilitating to deal with both physical AND mental illness that go hand in hand.
I honestly don't know what the answers or solutions to my problems are. I know losing some weight will help lessen the arthritic pain and so I've convinced myself this elliptical machine will change my life for the better. And I'm sure it will. But on the other hand, I also live in a society that, if I was ACTUALLY completely disabled, would not give me disability benefits without me literally hiring a lawyer to prove I'm "disabled enough" to qualify for help. One of my closest friends is on disability and gets less than $800/month. How does one survive on that?? How does anybody working 50+ hours/week just to pay for BASIC necessities like housing, food, and basic Healthcare NOT SEE HOW FUCKED THIS ALL IS? WHY ARE WE LIVING LIKE THIS????
I'm extremely privileged in that, for now, with my parents still alive and well off enough, I have housing. The truth is, I'd be homeless if it weren't for my family. I see so many people struggling constantly just to make ends meet. And I wish I could help. I wish we all had more. Just more in this life. I'm barely scraping by paying my bills monthly and I don't even have kids. If you're reading this and you're working yourself to the bone just to afford basics like housing and food... I'm so sorry that this society has failed us. I implore you though. Please vote in November. I know Biden is not our first choice by a looooong mile. But the alternative to him is literally a nightmare beyond comprehension for disabled people. Let alone disabled lgbtq people. Project 25 would mean no more almost free Healthcare for someone like me who's barely hanging on economically by a thread. Another 4 years of Biden gives us all time to continue recuperating from Trumps administration and hopefully pushes the left into more progressive stances. And 4 more years give us more time to find an even BETTER left candidate to take his place. Please vote. And vote blue.
