Closed the nomination form! I made a list with all nominations by category! this individual can be someone elias has known since college, or even from his first few weeks in hayfield (about 4 years ago). i would also be open to this person being someone new in elias' life. either way, this would be a situation where there is obvious chemistry between the two, but for one reason or another there is a lot of standing on the edge. the boundary has come close to being tested and teased, and has definitely flirted with. can be a slow burn, can progress into fwb situation, can be absolutely a dead end. Open to discussion!

What will the latter half of the Rhine City series look like? Will there be a change in cast, because I think that was said at one point? Do you have any "ideal" adaptation hopes?

The first two questions are mostly answered by this video!

To elaborate a little on the second question though, the cast will change but there will be familiar faces who pop up in the later stories where they're needed. Rex and Mina, for instance, both have a very good reason to pop in to the Fae trilogy. And of course the final trilogy will be a Smash Ultimate situation.

For adaptations, I would love if it could be live action but I feel like animation opens the door up for so many more possibilities, especially in terms of actors. Some of my dream casting choices are:

Thoughts on the COI synopsis

1. What the sh*t?

2. Cortona burns Cordelia? Because of Belial holding it? Or what the f*ck?

3. Cordelia has sworn loyalty to what now? Is this where the whole “the Carstairs owe the Herondales” thing comes into play? I feel like it’s either some sort of faerie magic or Malcolm, that little b*tch.

4. Is James now basically possessed by Belial? I’m getting season 4 Elliot from The Magicians vibes, and that storyline was incredibly painful to watch. Matthew better not pull a Quentin move in this.

I realized how long it’s been since I’ve done actual OC related stuff... and I re-watched over the garden wall recently

I can normally deal with people not reading the comics, because not everyone has the means to or even the desire to, and that's okay! The cartoons and a lot of the shows are great, and I can typically adjust to the different continuities being referenced quick enough.

But the one thing that gets me every time in fics written by people who aren't familiar with the comics is the timeline. It is always incredibly wonky and all over the place and just. Incorrect. Sometimes it makes me laugh, sometimes it makes me 🙃, and others I have to leave right now immediately.

So in the interest of saving myself (and perhaps others) a ???? reaction in the future, here is a (very) rough and non-exhaustive order of events for the Bat Clan. The time between these events are variable, but this is the general order of things.

Thomas and Martha Wayne are murdered

Bruce goes on his training trip

Bruce comes back and begins his whole I Am The Night shtick

The Grayson family is murdered

Bruce fosters Dick

Dick debuts as Robin

Justice League/ Super Friends/ whatever group is formed

Dick forms the Teen Titans with Donna, Garth, Roy, and Wally.

Dick leaves Gotham (either for college, or because of an argument with Bruce)

Sometimes more Titans things happen. They also break up at some point

Raven forms the second iteration of the Teen Titans to fight her father. The team is comprised of Dick, Raven, Donna, Wally, Kori, Gar, and Vic.

Jason steals the tires off the Batmobile, thwarts his own grandmother's attempts at robbing a museum, and is adopted by Bruce. He is also made Robin - Note that oftentimes Dick is still Robin at this time as well.

Babs gets shot by the Joker for her dad and Bruce's man pain. She becomes Oracle as a result.

Jason and Bruce have a fight, and Jason goes to find his biological mother.

Jason is betrayed by his supposed mother and murdered by the Joker.

Tim shows up and does his "Batman needs Robin" Thing.

Jason crawls himself out of his grave and promptly gets hit by a car. Don't worry, we'll check in with him later.

Tim's mom is murdered and his father left in a coma that he eventually recovers from.

Knightfall happens - Bane breaks Bruce's back, Jean-Paul Valley is Batman for a minute and so is Dick.

Contagion happens - some dumbass releases a super plague on the city but it's okay because they make a vaccine that everyone gets because it's 1996 and no one has given Jenny McCarthy the opportunity to start the Anti-Vax movement yet.

Legacy happens - It's break through cases this time but don't worry, they fix it because this is comic books and people have two braincells to rub together.

Dick goes to Blüdhaven!!! This is the big one for me tbh. Please stop putting him in the Blüd while Jason is alive, I beg of you. You're killing me.

Cataclysm happens - a massive earthquake hits Gotham, and it is Very Bad. The US government decides to abandon the city and kill anyone trying to leave or enter after a certain date. Because that's an entirely reasonable thing to do. This leads to.....

No Mans Land - the approximate year that the city was cut off from the rest of the country. Lots of shit happens during this time - Cassandra Cain debuts, Stephanie Brown has her baby, Tim goes to boarding school, Sarah Essen-Gordon dies. If there is the only one comic book arc you read, please let it be this one.

Bruce is framed for the murder of Vesper Fairchild - not really important in the grand scheme of things but I love Vesper and you should too.

Hush happens - basically Tommy Elliot has Problems and also Jason shows up but not really but yest really (hi thank you retcons). It's a thing. Read the wikipedia page it's actually very helpful.

Tim's dad finds out that he's Robin and forces him to retire.

The next couple of things happen right on top of each other so - Blockbuster sets fire to Haly's circus and blows up Dick's apartment building and a bunch of other bad things. Tarantula kills Blockbuster and rapes Dick while he's in shock.

Immediately afterwards War Games starts - Steph starts a gang war to prove her worth to Bruce, gets murdered but not really by Black Mask, it's a whole thing.

Side bar - why did no one warn me about Black Mask killing Orpheus - a Black vigilante - and then impersonating him with full Blackface? Everyone talks about what he did to Steph but I really think we need to talk about what he did to Orpheus. Also if you haven't read War Games yet, here are some accurate trigger warnings for it: blackface, sexualized murder of a teenaged girl, a school shooting where a child dies.

Tim comes back as Robin.

Under the Red Hood happens - Jason comes back to Gotham, kills some guys, tries to kill Tim, does his whole Thing. You've probably seen the movie but I also recommend you read the comics it's v good and every time I read Jason's final speech I start crying.

Damian shows up

Final Crisis happens and Bruce "dies" aka gets lost in time, so the boys duke it out over who gets to be Batman. Tim goes on his murder mystery tour. Jason goes to prison but not before adopting a weird little girl named Sasha. Dick is left with Batman.

Oops turns out Steph isn't dead she's back and she's Batgirl now and low-key co-parenting Damian with Dick. It's very cute.

Cass is off being Black Bat in Hong Kong and I miss her.

Bruce comes back, Tim is Vindicated, Jason escapes prison and rides off into the sunset with Sasha to go Cause Problems on Purpose. Dick steps down from Batman. Damian continues to be a murder baby and I love him.

And that's not nearly everything but close enough for fic writing purposes up until Flashpoint. I definitely missed things, so feel free to add on. I also again beg you - please stop putting Dick in the Blüd when Jason is still alive, it makes my blood pressure spike every time I see it. You're killing me guys. Pls.

Alec flips her off. “Next.”

“My life is not a reality show,” Alec admonished her.

He ignores them both and fixes his gaze at the presentation.

“Okay, Alec. How about this one?” Izzy asks, her voice cautious. “Leon Verlac. He is from admin and-”

“I would literally jump off this building,” Alec tells his sister seriously. “Keep that man away from me.”

Jace laughs at that. “Still trying to recover from the Christmas Party?”

Alec shudders at the memory.

“Okay,” Izzy groans and goes to the next slide. “Charles-”

“I’m not into redheads,” Alec clarifies.

“Hey!” Clary protests and then stares at the screen. “Wait. He is also my cousin! Are all my cousins queer? Nice!”

We Wish You A Merry Christmas (Modern AU)

Cecily and Sophie conspire to get a Christmas card with all the Lightwood grandchildren from both sides, chaos ensues. The holiday fic no one asked for, but I wrote it anyway.

It was all both Cecily and Sophie had wanted for Christmas, as they had told their children. They just wanted a family photo of all the Lightwood grandchildren from both sides. Everyone had reluctantly agreed, which is why they were here now at Eugenia’s studio, since she had graciously offered to take pictures.

And so far it was a disaster.

They’ve had to change Jasper’s shirt twice, because he keeps staining it, even with both Thomas and Alastair watching him like a hawk.

Rosie keeps attempting to run off, giggling as she does so. Christopher was supposed to keep her with him, to make sure she didn’t, but she kept managing to slip away. So Anna took over and now Rosie is standing with her and Ariadne.

Harriet is feeling particularly shy today and doesn’t want to take any photos. In fact, she refuses to let go of her Baba, and starts bawling every time someone tries to pry her from Alastair.

The newly born Gabriel hadn’t stopped crying since he got there, despite everything Anna and Ariadne have done to get him to stop. They’re just hoping he’ll tire himself out at some point so they can take pictures.

Isidore has a cold and hasn’t been feeling well all day, which makes him cry and cling to Grace. His nose is all red and runny, his eyes pinkish and puffy from all his crying. He hasn’t stopped sneezing and every attempted picture has him covered in snot.

Immy is the only one who hasn’t really done anything, she was the most well behaved. Keyword was. Until about an hour into the photoshoot and she wanted to get out of her frilly dress. But since they hadn’t gotten one good picture, she couldn’t just yet.

All the parents were tired and even Eugenia was starting to get annoyed. Sophie and Cecily looked at each other and sighed. Everyone had been here for three hours now and they hadn’t managed to get one decent picture.

“Mum?” Thomas said and Sophie turned to look at him. Jasper was next to him holding Rosie’s hand, Harriet nowhere in sight.

“Yes? What is it, Tom?”

Thomas looked a little uneasy as he answered. “We’re going to have to leave. It’s past the girls’ nap time and Hettie is already asleep. You know we would stay-” Sophie cut her son off. She looked behind Thomas to see Alastair talking to Anna and Ariadne, holding the sleeping Harriet.

“It’s fine, Tommy. You and Alastair have your own family, I understand what it’s like. I had three children too, remember?” she said, reaching up to squeeze his shoulder gently. Her son shot her a grateful smile. “Just make sure you tell Alastair that I want to say goodbye to Harriet before you leave please.” Thomas nodded and Jasper and Rosie launched themselves at Sophie.

“Bye-bye, Nan!”

“Goodbye, Sophie!”

Sophie sighed at that, she’d asked Jasper if he wanted to call her “nan” like the other children did, but he’d politely declined saying it didn’t feel right. But still, she hugged them both and promised to see them at some point before Christmas.

Once leaving her grasp, Jasper had turned to where Alastair and been talking with Anna and Ariadne. “Lassie!” he yelled and Alastair started to walk over, saying goodbye to the other couple and their baby.

“What is it, Jasper?” he asked, shifting Harriet so her head was tucked under his chin. She made a small noise and wrapped her arms tighter around her father.

“You and Harryo need to say bye-bye to Nan, Baba. Nan told Daddy to tell you.” Rosie said. Alastair looked at Thomas and raised an eyebrow. Thomas shrugged in response, picking Rosie up and bringing her and Jasper to the car.

Sophie looked at Alastair and beckoned him forward. “You don’t need to wake her up, she’s had a very tiring day. I think she deserves this nap.” she said, reaching out to softly squeeze Harriet’s leg.

“I’m sorry we couldn’t get the picture today, Sophie, Cecily. Maybe we can try again soon?” Alastair said, looking a little bit guilty.

“It was just a bad day for the children, we couldn’t plan that. We’ll just have to try again, as you said.” Cecily assured him from her seat next to Sophie. Alastair nodded in response and said his goodbyes.

Slowly, everyone else had filtered out, as the afternoon had turned into evening and everyone needed to go home. Sophie and Cecily understood but it did make them a little sad.

“Don’t worry, Mum, Aunt Cecily. We can just try again next year.” Eugenia assured her mother and aunt as she started to put away her equipment.

“Yeah, there’s always next year.”

Now it was time for the annual Herondale Christmas party, which was in full swing. Everyone was laughing and having a good time, and there were children running around everywhere.

Rosie and Molly were sitting with Cordelia, Elliot, and Samuel-who had just started to walk-and playing with them. Cordelia and James’s two other boys had been running around the whole time with Jasper and Alexander, the four of them were up to something, but no one really knew what yet.

Little Gabriel had been passed around the room, everyone eager to get a look at the new baby. But unsurprisingly, the one who had been holding him the most, was his namesake. Gabriel had been on his fifth time holding the baby when Cecily had taken him and told her husband that he had to share, even if they shared a name.

Immy had found herself in the company of the Fairchild twins, the three of them sitting in a circle together and babbling, Lucie and Grace cooing at them from afar.

Even Harriet seemed to be enjoying herself, she had spent the first part or so of the party attached to Thomas, but had slowly unattached so she could play with Isidore.

It made Sophie happy to see everyone so happy during the party, even if she couldn’t get the picture that she and Cecily had wanted. She sighed and turned to the tree, where everyone had gathered to give presents.

She and Cecily looked at each other when Eugenia had given them matching gifts.

“It’s from all of us.” Was all she said before going to sit down.

Cecily had opened the box before Sophie had and gasped, making Sophie open her’s, and she too let out a gasp.

It was framed picture of all the Lightwood grandchildren, put into three squares.

The first said: The Lightwood-Carstairs with a picture of Jasper, Rosie, and Harriet sitting together. The girls were in matching dresses and Jasper was dressed nicely in a sweater and khakis. They were sitting on the front steps of their house.

The second said: The Blackthorns with a picture of Immy and Isidore together. They were in matching Christmas themed pajamas sitting in front of their Christmas tree.

The third said: The Lightwoods with a picture of Gabriel being held up by Anna and Ariadne’s hands. He was in a cute all-white onesie complete with a knitted hat and matching booties.

“How...?” Sophie trailed off, passing the picture to Gideon for him to look at.

Thomas shrugged. “We all felt bad that you couldn’t get your picture so we all took separate pictures and had Genie edit it together for you.”

“Thank you, I think I speak for the both of us when I say this was the best Christmas present ever.”

This is actually inspired by the Christmas card my grandfather and great-aunt had sent out this year. It was similar to what I described, except instead of three squares there were four. They had wanted to do it because of the pandemic and it was hard to take one big picture so they took separate pictures of us in groups and made one big Christmas card to share. I thought it was cute and decided to write a one shot based off of it.
