There’s something horrifyingly beautiful about Tess’s final moments. In the midst of the most dire chaos, as she waits for her death to come rushing past so she can blow it sky high and give cordyceps a big fuck you one last time, one of the infected stops. It looks at her, really looks. Her own mortality is personified in this infected. It’s death that’s looking at her, and it sees her. She looks her own death in the eye, and the suspense is so high as it approaches. But then, it doesn’t bite her throat out like we all expect it to.
It kisses her. What’s more, it kisses her gently. And I think it was a brilliant choice on the writers part, because it reminded me that the infected aren’t supposed to be evil. Sure, they’re scary as hell, but really, they’re just trying to survive. They’re connected to one another, they can feel each other from miles away. They seek out and want to be close to their own kind, just like the human survivors do. And when they do find each other, they kiss hello.
And after so long apart from a loved one, someone you know and trust with every instinct in your body, wouldn’t you want to kiss them too?

Ellie isn't allowed to travel alone Anymore
So! Ellie was raised in a Lab by a Genuine Bonefied Supervillain. She was raised to be a Villain as well, so her Moral Conpass is a little skewed.
Sure she *mostly* knows what is right and wrong from Danny's quick lesson before her Adventure around the Country, but she still has trouble separating what is moral and what is not from time to time.
So it's really no surprise that the moment she left Amity Park she somehow ended up being branded a Villain.
Look, it's not her fault she didn't know not to attack the flying guy in Blue Spandex when he approached her! One of Danny's biggest warnings shen she left had been Stranger Danger! She did what any 12 year old girl would have done when approached by a strange Older Man!
Its also not her fault that her powers (being Magic based), managed to affect him! She didn't even use her full power! (She maybe should have kicked him in a different place tho...she hopes he wasn't planning on having kids...)
So she did what her instincts told her to do. She took any money he had on him and ran the hell away!
It wasn't until she was 2 cities over when she saw a newspaper titled, "Little Villain Girl Mugs Superman in Broad Daylight!", that she realized she may have screwed up...
After that, she really had no excuse.
She knew that she probably shouldn't have kept Mugging the Heroes who approached her, but she wasn't a Fenton for nothing! Her Family Motto had always been "Commit to the Bit", and she was gonna stick to it!
So when the Fast Red Guy tried to tie her up, she phased off all his clothes and took off with his money (not the mask, she knew enough not to take that off)
And when the Grumpy Bat Guy tried to corner her with some weird papers he pulled out of his Belt, she just distracted him while her clone picked his pockets and made off with the wheels of his Car. That one made her a pretty penny!
The flying Green Guy was fun, his attacks were just throwing Ghost Candy (pure willpower) at her. He did stop doing do after she nicked his fancy talking Ring however, but it was fun while it lasted
Then she came across a Orange Fish Guy, and he actually seemed nice enough. But she was committing to the Bit, so she took the fancy Trident he had and sold it at a nearby Pawn Shop for some extra cash. He would probably be able to find it, that's why she chose a nearby location.
All in All, her Adventure had been really fun! So she decided to visit Amity Park again to tell Danny all about it!
...
Aquaman walked into the meeting room of the Watchtower, a very frustrated look in his eye.
Barry spoke up first, "Oh! I know that look in your eye! She got to you too didn't she!"
Arthur just glared at Barry for a second before walking over to his Chair, sitting down with a thump. "She is certainly a tricky child."
"What did she take this time?" Clark asked.
"..mttrident..." Arthur grumbled out quickly.
"What was that?" Asked Barry with a twinkle in his eye. He heard it, but he wanted everybody else to know.
"She took my trident, Okay!" Arthur shouted out.
"I feel ya man." Responded Hal, "At least with me she threw it back at me when she realized it wasn't making 'candy' anymore. What did she do with yours?"
"She sold it at a Pawn Shop!" Arthus yelled in frustration, "She managed to steal one of the most Powerful Magical Weapons in the world, the Symbol of the entire Atalantean Royal Bloodline, and she sold it and a Pawn Shop!"
"...how much did she get for it?" Asked Hal.
At this, Aquaman just collapsed to the table and groaned.
...
Alternatively she could have just kept all those things, and gradually built up a collection of all the JLA's most treasured possessions.
She has Supermans Wallet, not very important to him but it was her first mugging
She has Batmans Utility Belt (trackers removed) along with his Tires
She took Flashes Costume Ring (his civilian clothes still stuck inside)
She took Green Lanterns ring as well, but unfortunately it managed to escape after a few days. It was feisty.
And her crowning Jewel is the Trident she took from Aquaman.
(She avoided WW, cause she likes her too much to steal anything from her)

Prompt 168
So. Apparently halfas are like phoenixes or something, which Danny would’ve really liked to know.
See, usually with ghosts if they’re forced to retreat to their cores they reform as was, but apparently, since they’re still partially living, schrodinger's people and all that, halfas have to regrow their body from scratch. At least that’s what he’s understanding from Frostbite.
But how come he has to deal with it? It’s Dan’s fault for trying to pull such a stunt! Oh, it’s either him or Vlad? Well fuck, he might have calmed down and is going to therapy in both the living realm and the Zone, but he’s waaay not equipped to raise a child except for like, monetarily wise.
Well dammit, how long will this core incubation thing last, he has his new job in… let him check which offer he accepted again… He has his new job in Coast City that he needs to finish packing for and then all the rest of the stuff to do.
What do you mean it’ll take months?! He doesn’t have months?! Urgh, fine. At least being a mortician isn’t that exciting, nor dangerous. Just hand him Dan’s core and he’ll figure things out for the living side of things. He’s sure Tucker and Sam wouldn’t be against helping, if only to try and claim favorite aunt or uncle spots.
#dcxdp#dpxdc#prompts#Coast City is where Hal Jordan lives hilarious enough#I just chose a random city but honestly a green lantern city is hilariously on brand for where Danny would choose to move#He’s just a cheerful space core dude who is glaring down several ghosts & helping others move on while he’s working#He’s also slightly uncanny valley to people outside of Amity & doesn’t realize it#He runs into a reporter Wes at some point & okay the fact he looks like the lady doing math meme when seeing Dan?#Utterly hilarious#Danny holding a newborn with matching slightly pointy ears and claws :)#Wes who is *pretty sure* Danny is cis but is second guessing everything now:#Danny is going to do his best to avoid any hero BS#He’s trying to do his JOB#Who cares if he brings his baby to work he needs to eat and he isn’t going to hire a babysitter#Bby Jordan tried to set the house on fire during his last tantrum do you THINK anyone else can deal with him? That’s what he thought now ou#Ellie visits as well & straight up melts out of the wall sometimes like a horror movie#She has weaponized her goo powers and is also excited to show her dad her new gravity ones#Space Core Danny + Fire Core Vlad = Sun Core Dan#Ellie has a Moon core (something something phases of the moon & travelling across the night sky)#Danny is encountering so many rogues and heroes and just doesn’t acknowledge it because he has a literal BABY who can destroy the entire JL#He’s very tired and would like a nap now

In a Single Night
I see a bunch of 'Brucie punching Vlad at a Gala because he was being a creep towards a forced to attend Danny' and bring forth Selina about to skin a creepy man with her claws after she sneaks into his fancy party hes having to steal a cat relic he has (also steals his cat as well) and finds a recently recaptured Dani (Ellie) whose forced to play the 'perfect' daughter role for the night.
Or we can have Tim overhear Vlad threatening Danny saying "Do as I say Daniel, we wouldn't want your tiny failure of a clone to destabilize do we?" And that, that sends Tim on a warpath against Vlad Masters. (Clone Rights!!!! -Tim says)

She knows him.
She’s knows his violent and protective side. The guy she’s seen tell her to get to safety while he stands in the line of fire to protect her. Who brutally beat a man right in front of her because he would’ve shot him them. Who sniped infected from a building to keep her safe and to clear her a path. Who pulled a clicker off of her, even though she’s the immune one, to protect her and kill it. Perhaps the biggest one, torturing and brutally killing men in order to find her.
But she also knows his gentle and caretaking side. The side that cares about her well-being, safety, and the things she’s exposed to, despite it being the apocalypse. She knows the side of him that draped his coat overtop of her while she was sleeping so she wouldn’t get too cold. Who tossed the remainder of his jerky to her. The side of him that stopped her on the road to keep her from seeing the pile of skeletons. The man who giggled with her over a stupid diarrhea joke in the dead of night. Who buckled her seatbelt for her when he really didn’t have to. The man who shielded her from a clicker by holding her behind him. Who held her hands so gently when showing her how to hold her gun. Who held onto her pack and guided her behind a car and didn’t let go until she was safely ducked behind it. Who taught her how to shoot their rifle with a smile on his face and a hand on her back. Who held her hand so tightly, despite the pain he was in and effort it took.
That’s who she knows. And when he finally finds her in winter and holds her face and tells her “it’s me,” and she recognizes herself that “it’s Joel,” she knows. She knows he’ll hold her.

He hears her laughing before he sees her. Can hear her giggles from down the block. The sound, that sweet melody, floats on the breeze and brings a grin to his face. One he can't get to go away no matter how hard he tries. So, he lets it stay. Grins all the way to the playground, smiles wider at the sight that greets him.
Ellie, on the ground, with about five kids, young ones, all on top of her. She's laughing so hard now she's barely making noise and something warm and soft spreads through his chest at the sight. He wishes he had a video camera, so he could record that laugh. Burn it to a DVD and carry it with him everywhere he goes. So he can hear it whenever he wants. Wants to be able to keep it, cherish it like the precious thing it is.
She manages to get her feet back under her, rises from the ground with a roar. The kids all shriek with laughter and run away, darting in all directions. She chases after them, growling and laughing the whole time. She isn't much taller than the kids, despite being fifteen. Never did hit a growth spurt, even after coming to Jackson. She's small but mighty.
His little fighter.
She manages to catch one of the kids, Alice. They let out matching giggles when Ellie sweeps her up into her arms. Alice screeches with laughter when she spins her in a circle and Ellie joins in. The sound of it makes something in his chest clench. He blinks and Alice isn't Alice anymore.
Blinks and Ellie is holding a mini Sarah, while the real Sarah stands by and shakes her head at their antics. Can see her in the corner, rolling her eyes and fighting off a smile. She'd join in, after a while, he knows she would. And then it would be both of his girls, chasing his grandchildren around. Can picture joining them, can imagine the taunts of come get us Old Man, yeah Dad come get us as they both race away from him.
It hurts him, makes his chest feel tight. Makes his heart hurt, that his two babies never got to meet. Hurts him somewhere deep inside, that Sarah never got to meet the little sister she always wanted. Pains him that Ellie has to be the little sister to a ghost. They would have loved each other, he knows they would. Knows Ellie loves Sarah anyway, without ever having met her. Knows she would adore being Aunt Ellie.
"Joel, Joel help," Ellie yells, bringing him back to the present.
In a bid to rescue their friend, the other kids have joined forces and are currently using Ellie as a jungle gym. She has one on each arm and one on her back, arms around her neck. Two of them are wrapped around her legs, sitting on her shoes. She's trying her best to walk despite the weight, walking towards him with exaggerated roars and a blinding smile. It's kinda impressive, that she can still move at all, toting around 5 kids.
His little fighter indeed.
"Uncle Joel, help us, help us," one of the kids shouts, breathless from laughing.
Uncle Joel. He still isn't used to hearing it. Isn't sure when it started, exactly. Being Uncle Joel to every kid in Jackson. All he knows is that one day he was dubbed Uncle Joel and it's been that way ever since. Not that he minds it, not at all. Doesn't even mind being roped into babysitting at events, because the kids love him and he loves listening to them laugh. Loves listening to them have normal childhoods, something so simple but so rare in this world.
"Uncle Joel to the rescue," he calls.
The kids all cheer from where they dangle off Ellie. She does her best to shoot him a look of betrayal but her smile kind of ruins the effect. He advances on her, even as she does her best to run away from him. She doesn't get far, the 100-and-something pounds of small children slowing her down. He raises his hands, wiggles his fingers in her direction.
"Joel, don't you dare, Joel. Joel!"
He lunges forward, digs his fingers into her sides. She bends at the waist, like he knew she would. Collapses into giggles, gives the kids an opening. They take it, piling on top of her until she's once again on the ground. She must sense that she's defeated, because she spends an awful lot of time "dying." Makes noises and bemoans her fate, before going limp. The kids all snicker at the production.
She would have made a good Aunt.
"Kids, ice cream," Alice's mother calls from across the playground.
They all abandon Ellie in the pursuit of frozen goodness. One of them stops halfway to the ice cream, turns back around. Falls back on top of Ellie, hugs her around the middle. Races back to meet the others with a thanks for playing with us thrown over his shoulder. Ellie watches him go with a smile on her face. She never had a childhood, and he knows how important it is to her that the Jackson kids do.
"I want ice cream," she complains with a huff, even though the smile on her face never wavers.
"We have some at home," Joel informs her, reaching down to help her to her feet.
She uses his hands to stand, follows the momentum to wrap her arms around his middle. Squeezes him tight, seemingly for no other reason than she can. He hugs her back, rests his cheek on the top of her head. Loves that she is still short enough for him to do that. Loves that she probably always will be. Presses a kiss to her forehead, just because he can.
"I earned my ice cream," she says matter-of-fact, "dying is hard work."
"You sure did, Kiddo, you sure did."
Yeah, she would have been the best Aunt ever.

It's 3 am. I can't sleep. And I'm still a little drunk so I'm going to word vomit into the void about Last Night in Soho.
I absolutely adore this movie. The acting, the directing, the cinematography, the themes- it's all fantastic! ... except for the character John. And this has nothing to do with the actor portraying him but John's place in the narrative as friend/romantic interest to Ellie while being a foil to Sandie's own "Johns".
Ellie's John is everything Sandie's aren't: kind (apologizing for taking her coke and offering to give it back, saving a seat for her in class, checking up on her through the semester), respectful (of her boundaries and her passion and personhood), supportive (showing up for her exhibition), and helpful (offering to look for Sandie in missing person cases and moving her out of her apartment at the end of the movie). Even Sandie - the character who hated men most - pardons him and absolves him of any perceived wrong doing, "Save the boy downstairs"; although just minutes ago she stabbed him in the gut and left him for dead.
Unfortunately, it reads alot like "Not all men!! ☝️"
For a movie to be so focused on the relationship between two women and one of them understanding the other as if she was herself, the crux of the film, the resolution of it is Sandie saying "You can't save me, it's too late for me. Save yourself. Save the boy downstairs." And it's only then that Ellie goes to safety, she saved herself to save a man.
It's frustrating.
It's also frustrating that any other girl around Ellie's age is vapid and facetious "So brave ❤️" or an insecure bully dragging people down. Of course, this serves to make Ellie's attachment to Sandie stronger but writing John as a woman without romantic connotations would not stop her from being starstruck by Sandie. It would only highlight the sisterhood theme.
Sandie saying, "Save the girl downstairs" would make way way more sense for her character, Ellie's character, and the themes.
You can still have Ellie bring home someone near Halloween and still have his name be John and still have him respect her boundaries when the vision bleeds into reality.
Gotta keep in mind that this would edge itself closer into the black best friend being a prop/support for the main white character without being afforded their own personhood cliché, but that could be easily circumvented with decent writing.
Overall, it would tighten the film's message of sisterhood, women supporting women, and advocating for each other. This film is at its best when Ellie is showing kindness to Sandie by pulling the blanket over her feet. Her being protective over Sandie by shouting, "She said no!" Trying to hug her and show her she isn't alone. Her hugging Alexandra and seeing Sandie. Her refusing the Johns' their revenge. By taking Sandie's side time and time again. And Alexandra asking Ellie after the dance when her John left, "Did he hurt you?" As if she would hobble down the street that very second with a knife to track him down.
Another girl must not suffer in that room. Not under that roof. Not in the whole damn world. Not if Sandie or Ellie or I have anything to say about it.
#last night in soho#movie talking#feminism#i wanted to talk to my coworkers about this movie yesterday. the girl hadnt seen it. and the man was 'eh it was okay/fine'#and when i was telling the girl that it was about sisterhood the man scoffed made a funny face and said 'no its not'#our lived experiences man. they are so so different.#this is not just a movie about a girl solving the case of another girl and whoops! she was the killer all along!#no dumbass! this is a movie about the trauma women in society suffer under wrought by men!!!#Sandie was beguiled into prositution with promises of her dreams coming true. a fate she did not deserve. no woman deserves.#she was depressed. she hated herself and everyone around her. she blamed herself. she was alone. and thats how we feel striking out and#trying to make a name for ourselves. thats what ellie is trying to do. and even 60 years later there is still creepy men trying to take#advantage of women- 1st example in the 1st 5 mins being the overly friendly cabbie.#define brotherhood to yourself. and define sisterhood. they are built off of similar experiences. being able to relate to each other.#brotherhood is built from childhood or sports or military squads. any avenue where men are grouped together and forced to bond.#WOMEN EVERYWHERE ALREADY HAVE THE SAME TRAUMA FROM THE PATRIARCHY. thats why so many women will race to help one another#if they see the domestic abuse hand signal or of they see a woman being harrassed by a man in public. and so so much more#the messaging is not subtle. but its not hitting you over the head either.#4th wave feminist my ass

Ah, Doomsday Getaway. Probably quite a few people's favorite events, for the combination of music, story, etc, even if the freebie ultimately ended up a wash for quality.
But amid all the things going on, I just found this exchange a little bit funny even if what's being discussed isn't.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everyone else has largely been crossing their arms and going 'nu-uh' to Carmen's claim and refusing to play the game.
Elisanne, though, quickly decides to start playing for the worst-case scenario that Carmen's words are 100% true, and then starts eyeing to try and set up a mass-murder/suicide scheme with Ranzal to force the game to end up with Euden as 'winner' since, well, it's pretty obvious Euden wouldn't play the game if his life depended on it (literally). As an aside, Elisanne definitely chose her prospective partner-in-crime well, as among the main 5, Ranzal as the more gritty, realistic, 'willing to get dirty for the boss' is probably the most likely to agree to do such a thing.
Ironically, even if they did team up to do this and pulled it off, Euden would then likely be the only one to die or otherwise suffer a horrible fate with the whole 'psyche, would-be winner, d'ya want to bite the bullet to resurrect all your pals' twist thrown in last minute. Funnily enough, though, this is probably like the singular time Euden expresses any hesitation at the notion of sacrificing himself for everyone:
Tumblr media
However, I'll throw in a bit of a wrinkle to that initial scene. While that first scene ends with Ranzal's comment and is only implied what Elisanne was proposing it does return for a brief part in the next scene in more explicit terms.
Tumblr media
...However (part 2), this scene turns around into this:
Tumblr media
...which quickly is simply revealed to be just a nightmare Euden was having.
Tumblr media
This is a minor conspiracy theory, but if Euden was dreaming that last part, was maybe the first part ALSO a dream?
Was Euden maybe fearing somewhere deep in his mind, that his friends were secretly starting to plot the murders of everyone besides him given their protectiveness? I might also point to the fact that Dream!Amane being able to guess so accurately what had happened the night before without actually knowing what they were discussing.
It just feels a bit too convenient, especially combined with Dream!Euden immediately being able to start 'taking action' and gaining a presence in the dream right after it seems like it might be too late, the kind of 'helpless nightmares' that a lot of people have. It also seems like the kind of nightmare he would have, as between actual events like Fractured Futures where he's helpless and forced to watch a Zethia die, to his overall character of 'having to save everyone/do everything' tendencies, I'm thinking Euden really doesn't like being caught feeling helpless to fix things.
Admittedly, I don't really have evidence either way, nor is it very important to the broader story. It's entirely possible that the first initial conversation with Ranzal actually happened, Euden overheard somehow, and then had nightmares of the second. The one piece of evidence to suggest part one happened is this tidbit, which implicates there was at least one time where the two of them were talking alone about something:
Tumblr media
Even then, they might have had a private conversation wherein the trusting curse was triggered (since what we saw of that conversation, it wasn't triggered) that Euden saw but didn't hear, later had a nightmare imagining what was going on and then had Nightmare the Sequel later with Amane and Elisanne, trying to re-contextualize the nightmare with Ranzal dead instead of everyone else around them dropping.
So yeah, minor, inconsequential food for thought. With the cliffhanger at the end, though, I do wonder if they were plotting a sequel-style event or other followup later on. Wonder what that would've been like!
