I'm back and I've returned with a little something I've been working on recently.

I watched the trailer for the Reagan biopic (which I want to be clear I have no intention of watching, I prefer my Republican Presidents to be fictional) but when 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' kicked in it got me thinking back to the s1 finale which led me to wonder about what a trailer for an Ellen biopic would look like which grew into this.

ELLEN X PAM FANFIC!!!

It was an autumn day. International League of Heros did another amazing job by saving some people. Ladies were done for that day, so they all decided to relax a bit. Joy was listening to music in her room, Rhonda was reading a book, and Emmylou was fixing her bike. Pam decided to go out for a walk. As she was about to go out, Ellen asked her to go with her. Pam agreed.

They were walking around the city. Everything looked beautiful with autumn colors, and the air was fresh. They were walking a bit, leaves crunching under their feet.

Suddenly, it started raining. Pam didn't bring her umbrella, but Ellen did, so they shared. They took the umbrella, their habds touching and continued. Pam was blushing slightly, and so was Ellen. Ellen's hands were warm and Pam's cold.

"Why are your hands cold?"

"Was just, uh, doing something."

The rain didn't ruin the mood. Sun started setting down, making a beautiful scene for Pam and Ellen

WIP Wednesday

I rewatched the too cute video extra of Ellen that I got my current pfp from and I idly wondered whether the bookshop she mentions is a real place and it is, and it looks as charming as heck that it's making me contemplate a trip to NYC. So here's some cosy spacepoet vibes for autumn 🍂

Wednesday 29th October, 2003

Ellen took me on a book shop tour of New York. 

We went to this charming little bookshop in the West Village called Three Lives & Company, she’s been dying to take me to it for an age, ever since she sent me that drunken vid message twenty years ago. Sorry El I do still remember that, god you were so young and adorable. Now you’re older, wiser and still just as adorable.

Anyway this bookshop, it’s literally a block up from the Stonewall Inn, the heart of the gay district, rainbow flags as far as the eye can see and coincidentally on the corner of West 10th and Waverly. I swear, even the half of New York her family didn’t own is named after her. 

My brand new book was on the shelf. My memoir, still not sure about the title and that picture of me, urgh, El says I look alluring but personally I think I look demonic. I don’t know how Claude convinced me black and white was a good idea.

I finally did it, I finally got published at one of the big 5. Not only that I am officially a New York Times Bestseller. If I’d know all I had to do was bag a President I’d have considered propositioning naughty Teddy Kennedy decades ago. 

What did Oscar Wilde say? The only thing worse than not getting what you want, is getting it.

Maybe in another life, another timeline where I don’t know we won the race to the Moon, I became the world famous poet, young, free and living in New York. And Ellen would… well Ellen would probably still have become the President, but who knows maybe Ellen and I never would’ve met and I know which life I’d chose, every time. Even the bad parts, the wasted days, all of it, because it led us here. To New England in fall, to cozy bookshops and holding hands in public, in Central Park! The gentle crunch of orange leaves under our feet. The universe has a way of working things out.

Becoming the girlfriend of the President of the United States was difficult.

Pam had been tempted to remain in Austin and maybe fly into Washington for important occasions. But spending more time apart wasn’t fair to either of them. That and the Secret Service explained how they would have to shut down traffic on her street and buy out her neighbors’ house in order to set up a command post. That wasn’t going to be fair to anybody.

Living in the Residence was its own difficulty. There were many days were she felt like a bird in a gilded cage. Her movement was restricted and if she ever left the White House, she had to followed by a minimum of four agents. There were days she never saw Ellen - she was up before Pam woke up and came to bed after she was asleep. When Ellen was able to spend time in the Residence, there was the constant threat of interruption. There were the death threats.

She was tempted some days to reach out to Larry and ask how he handled it. But the fact was that he didn’t. (Which was why she was here. With the love of her life.) One day, out of desperation, she called Nancy Reagan but hung up as soon as possible. Ironically, she had a great conversation with Raisa Gorbacheva during a state dinner.

There were great days. She genuinely enjoyed her visits to schools where children shared their poetry with her. (She never thought she would.) There were the celebrations in front of the White House when Ellen signed the Marriage Act. There was serving as the Grand Marshall of San Francisco’s Pride parade that year.

There were the times Ellen could call her sweetheart in public, in front of the press.

But she was so fucking happy when Ellen’s two terms were done.
