no? no, he clearly doesn't and he never has. his ideal doctor who is rose tyler (lbr his mary-sue, because however much i am told not to use that term she clearly is one) and a doctor that looks like david tennant and everything else is Wrong and we must constantly be told that. 10 "mourning" rose that much is not in-character, actually, it is not an unavoidable issue, it's a deliberate writing choice to Not Let Go of rtd's one true companion. so martha jones gets fucked over (again, a choice was made to focus on her love for the doctor and how he could never ever want her), and rtd doesn't care and neither did the fandom because they too thought that rose being gone was a glitch to be fixed. because rtd fucking encouraged them to.

so rose is somehow in s3 even though she isn't, and then she's back in s4 where she is given a man who looks like david tennant. to look after. and 'heal'. (aside: no, the 9th doctor was healed by running into people and things that made him confront the past. rose was just a nice distraction for him between those brief therapy sessions. yet she's given the credit for them. because of course the one true companion must have done that!)

and then when he has to write out david tennant... *sigh* off we go to see rose fucking tyler again after spending the rest of our time being sad about not being david tennant anymore, and he goes out COMPLAINING that he can't face not being david tennant in the tardis with rose "russell t" tyler. and then you wonder why people stopped watching at that point? you wonder why they still complain about the eleventh doctor not being david tennant? they were told to!

and then rtd comes back. and so does david tennant. and... yes we can all see where this is going HOW DID YOU NOT? rtd has never been willing to move on and accept change. he hates having to change things in doctor who. this has been obvious since 2007. but fandom liked martha being fucked over in the name of rose-and-david-tenannt so they just ignored it.

1 (the character that everyone gets wrong): ok this one is tricky for me bc to some degree im cool with ooc-ish stuff on the case of like aus/personal interpretation/whatever AND i am actually someone who doesnt actually read a lot of fanfic and doesnt have tooooo many really strong feelings abt characters outside of phantom hourglass so this one i had to think abt for a bit for a character that i have strong enough feelings on and actually like. care and know how ppl popularly interpret them. i am a bit of a hater but its very specific haterism a lot of the time. so i don’t really have much of an answer for this? rereading DWJ's Dalemark Quartet and these books are always more brutal than I remember

we've hit a snag, which is that because I've just exorcised certain episodes from my internal continuity, the final Rory and Amy episode is making me quite emotional

I was so ready for The God Complex to be the ending for me, but nah, we've got Power Of Three and this now...

does it make a whole lot of sense that the statue of liberty is an angel? absolutely not (although I noticed this time around that that's kind of the point, that the Angels have been fucking with time in a way that's breaking it by creating a loop of food-stock in New York). but if I take out nearly All M*ffat episodes written for these two and just stick with the ones that I think are actually compelling, getting to this point is... not bad on the whole

we'll see if it withstands scrutiny, but actually I don't hate this ending on the whole

I think if Amy's story with the Doctor could be... smaller. that is, all of this over the top Stuff about the Doctor's name and Time Paradoxes and shit is much less interesting than a simple story about a little lonely girl who grew up thinking she'd been let down by this magical being and ended up having some adventures and got married and after a couple more adventures in which she was simultaneously building a life on earth, she chose the life on earth

in many ways it's quite a sweet story about growing up that doesn't make growing up seem like the worst thing ever (as these stories often can do), and if it could have been that more strongly, it would have been a very good arc

now the work is in trimming out the really bad stuff and cobbling it back together again!

Looking back, the only episodes from Eleven's era I considered to be jampacked are A Good Man Goes to War and The Time of the Doctor, a Time is the only one I think really suffers because of it. AGMGTW holds together quite well. While Moffat could speedrun through more ideas in a cold open than most writers go through in an entire season and had a Nolanian fondness for non-chronology, the episodes during his era, both as writer and showrunner, were often quite lean and uncluttered. They rarely ever had more in them than they actually needed. There were no extraneous subplots or characters. Sure, some felt rushed, but that was often more due to constraints of stipulated timeslots. There are so many DW episodes (from 2005 onwards) that could be improved with just an extra few minutes here and there (the opposite is true in some cases).

I've just revisited Gnosticism and I've been having that thought as well. There's basically two prongs to it, mythological and structural:

On the mythological end, think of how nuts people go for star wars. Imagine if for the last couple thousand years, people were generally aware that there was a lost beta version of star wars that was different. But the only way we knew about these beta cuts was one interview with George Lucas about how much they sucked.

And then, in like 1940, people actually discovered a bunch of the beta tapes, and not only are they evocative, they completely recontextualize a lot of star wars tropes. Maybe in one version, Leia is a very different character who is both a scathing commentary on the Clinton administration, and portrayed as a secretive puppet master who has been subtly manipulating things to her own ends. In another beta tape, shes actually some kind of goddess disguised in human form.

Like, the changes aren't just small differences in the timeline or characterization. They are changes that beg several radical new interpretations of the text. Its literary and evocative! I found it enticing and I wasn't even raised religious. I can't imagine what it would be like to have say, grown up in catholic school only to discover the Apocryphon of John later in life.

On the structural end, it "expands the mythos" so to speak. Yk how even American protestants will sometimes reference the book of Enoch because it has all the fun mystical shit? Gnostic literature is like that cranked up to eleven. It is theology for theology perverts. Its full of complex hierarchies of divine beings and explanations of their relationships to each other, all while reframing several A-list biblical characters as teachers of secret ineffable wisdom that YOU, dear reader, get to learn. It's practically catnip for the occult-curious.

i am aware that plot + character dynamics + personality + costume design + set design + mood and atmosphere etc. are all up to the writers, directors and rest of the crew, not the actors at all, but they are created to fit around the doctor’s actor’s vibe to an extent — at least i know that capaldi influenced a lot during his tenure, from the fashion choices to the intensity of twelve’s relationship with clara.

Thirteen has now taken Nine's position of "most underrated modern Doctor". I bet you people are already recommending "skip thirteen" as part of their advice to new fans. I hate this.

Nine's dynamic with Rose is more interesting (to me, at least) than Ten's dynamic with Rose. Nine and Rose come across like cool besties who may be getting into QPR territory and are trying to figure it out. Ten and Rose, by contrast, are every sixteen year old straight couple.

I think Six and Mel have a better dynamic than Six with Peri; partially because the writers started having Six be a lot kinder and gentler, and partially because Mel's personality meshes with Six's better than Peri's did.

Eleven is considered the least favourite modern Doctor by most of the fandom not because of anything wrong with Matt Smith's peformance but because a) some people hated that Tennant wasn't playing the part anymore and b) M*ffat hamstrung Eleven's characterisation.

The brigadier definitely improves over time; I found him especially difficult to like during the Third Doctors era but by the Seventh Doctors era he was a lot easier to enjoy watching (and the writers were less okay with him being misogynistic by then; never quite forgave him for being such a jerk to Tegan and Nyssa).

Twelve was the most hated modern Doctor for ages primarily because people had gotten used to attractive young men playing the character and reacted badly when the Doctor didn't look like the fresh-out-of-uni teacher they fancied at school.

Jenna Coleman is really good at Clara but I think she works better as a Twelve companion than an Eleven companion; their dynamic feels a lot more interesting.

The writing of the Chibnall era is fine. Like, a lot of it is really good. For a lot of people, it was never about the writing (as they insisted); it was because they didn't like that Thirteen was being played by a woman.

The extended fam (Yaz, Graham, Ryan and Dan) are severely underrated by the fandom. They all have so much interesting characterisation but you wouldn't know it from the way so many associate them as being "boring".

Some of the first RTD era had really not aged well, especially when it comes to how Martha was treated.

RTD deliberately avoided mentioning as much as he could about Thirteen's era in the sixtieth anniversary specials because he wanted people to forget that era happened. Thirteen's outfit? Burned away. Mentioning every companion? Thirteen's companions are left out. Every love interest mentioned? No mention of Yaz, despite her being the love interest barely three episodes before.

M*ffat seems to actively dislike writing for RTD's companions; in so many of his episodes for RTD's two eras, the companions are either shunted over to the side or the Doctor is randomly rude to them for no reason.

The Timeless Child is less of a canon-breaker than bi-generation.

David Tennant is a lovely man but I don't want him to play the Doctor for at least another ten years. He has so far played three separate versions of the Doctor; that's more than enough.

Going back to my earlier point, M*ffat's writing for Clara got significantly better after Twelve turned up and he had to write a more complicated relationship than "Clara thinks Eleven is cute".

Thasmin is not queerbaiting. Two queer characters falling in love but not kissing or becoming a couple is not queerbaiting. Please actually research what that word means.

I actually really like the season 19 TARDIS team of Five, Adric, Tegan and Nyssa; I know a lot of people think it's overstuffed but I like seeing the characters bounce off each other.

"Kerblam!" isn't an amazing episode but most people who criticise it online have never actually watched it; they just saw an out-of-context photo set and decided they knew what it was about.

The best writing Nyssa got in the classic show was "Legopolis" and "Arc of Infinity"; especially in the later, Sarah Sutton did a great job when she was given more to do than "being the sweet one".

Also, she was (and is) in love with Tegan and vice-versa (but that's not a hot take since they're a canon couple now XD).

I personally don't get the appeal of Four. I know they're considered the "iconic" incarnation for the classic era but I don't get it.

The way Yaz is treated by the fandom now is rather similar to how Martha was treated back in the 2000s (although Yaz doesn't have to deal with people hating her for not being Rose).

Valentine Special 2025 ships

Heyo, it's already midnight where I am, so Valentine's Day has passed, but I still wanted to celebrate it. Valentine's Day is weird for me because I am Aro&Ace, so I never really get to appreciate it. Every year, it just comes and passes, and I feel nothing, even though I do like the aesthetic.

But this week, I had the brilliant idea that even though I can't celebrate it conventionally, I can still do something for all the pairings and ships I have come to love over the years. So, I drew eleven ships that had helped me during my most challenging moments, from when I was a child to the present. They are ordered in no particular order but rather what I got on paper in my sketchbook.

Idk. Maybe this way me my fellow Aromantics shippers can still enjoy the holiday.

Reguri (This was named Namelessshipping and Orginalshipping back in the day. Too tired to do research rn. But I think the difference lies in the manga and game versions. I prefer the game versions, personally)

Purpleshipping {Kieran x mc) (A little backstory: this is just the mc from Scarlet and Violet that I made an NB version for, which became their own person after writing a fic. Here, they are exchanging an Applin with Kieran. For those who know the custom, you know, you know. A friend of mine named this ship)

Shadowpeach (the most divorced couple I have ever come across. I remember back when this was considered a crack ship. Ah, good times. The character depictions were very different back then, too. I depicted them in their friend's era, but still. Btw Macaque is laughing at Sun Wukong's antics but I think it accidentally looks like he is laughing at Sun Wukong rather than with him. Oh well, it wouldn't be too out of character for seasons 1-3 Mac)

Marink (not a ship I read about a lot, but it hurt me so much when I played Link's Awakening for the first time. Everytime I think of Marin I feel sad)

I took a long long time looking through my art and wondering how I could improve, so if you peek at my older Hiccup sketches you may see a lot of new stuff!! I literally changed the brush I use to outline lol

(Yes I love redheaded characters) I've been attempting to develop these OCs ever since I was eleven and armed with a thin ahh book the size of my hand so yes having a storyline is a breakthrough

Post-book 12 (pretty much post-canon) I have decided to give him a braid

I need more Utumno-era, pre-Silmarils angbang fanfics

I'm saying this both as a reader and a (struggling) writer— so I want to do both: read others' works and write my own.

Because it feels like most fanfics are set after Melkor's imprisonment, probably because there's more drama potential. And I get it — even if I don’t agree with the interpretation that their relationship became horrible, violent, and devoid of love after that point. But it is canon that Melkor wasn’t the same anymore, and that shift came with a lot of consequences. Even if I genuinely believe he never stopped loving and cherishing Mairon, it's true that he lost most of his powers, shut himself away in Angband, and was constantly suffering from his wounds.

On top of that, the post-imprisonment era is described in more detail in the texts, so it’s easier for writers to anchor their stories in specific events. With Utumno-era, we have Mairon’s seduction, the destruction of the Two Lamps, the building of Angband. Then the war, the loss, and after that — long years of separation.

But I think it’s worth noting that between the creation of the Two Trees and the Battle of the Powers, 1,099 Valian Years passed — which translates to over 11,000 solar years. That’s so much time. I used to think Melkor’s 3,000-year imprisonment was unbearably long (and I still grieve over how long he and Mairon were separated), but if we assume Mairon had already joined him even before the destruction of the Two Lamps (which is totally possible — Tolkien’s drafts even mention him spying for Melkor in Almaren), then that means…

They were together for over 11,000 freaking years before all the drama happened.

All that time they were loving each other, dreaming together, making plans for how they’d shape Arda to their will. Dreaming about the future, exploring all the possibilities it could offer them, experimenting with creations, being happy when they had the results that pleased them.

More than eleven thousand years married, happy, and absolutely unhinged together.

Just thinking about it warms my heart so much.
