When you learn something about someone you love, something terrible, you find a room in yourself you didn’t know you had, a new organ of understanding. I had a small key now for a very small, sticky lock. But when I could turn it, it made a kind of sense. Ah yes, I thought, of course. This is why he is the way he is. The key granted me a frightening sort of order.

Francis Henderson Sr’s Family
i’m back for a little bit to share what i’ve learned about Francis Henderson Sr’s wife and kids after he moved to Newport, Rhode Island. i am unsure if any of this information has been discovered and shared in the time i’ve been gone, and if so, i’m sorry for repeating information. i haven’t been on Tumblr since my last post, iirc, and i don’t feel like checking, i’m sorry!
For quick background, in Francis Sr’s letters to John Adams, he says that he is living in Rhode Island and briefly visiting South Carolina. Reminiscences of Abbeville also states that Francis Sr lived in Newport and vacationed in South Carolina during the summer. It also states that after he left Junior in Scotland and moved to Rhode Island, he got remarried and had children.
The first of this information is a Newport census report from 1850.
Tumblr media
Listed is a 71-year-old man named Francis Henderson, who it says was born in Scotland, which matches Frances Laurens’ ex-husband. Included in the household is a 53-year-old woman named Elizabeth, a woman named Janet, and a man named Robert, both in their twenties. Also included is a woman named Jane Armstrong, who it says was born in Ireland.
Using this information, I was able to find a Find A Grave connected. The cemetery the grave is connected in is located in Newport.
Tumblr media
The grave lists three people, Francis Henderson, his wife Elizabeth Gouffran, and their daughter Janet Carruthers. There is a discrepancy, as their graves say Francis died at 80 on March 24, 1853, and Elizabeth died at 75 on March 7, 1855, while the census states they were 71 and 53 in 1850. Janet’s age is also discrepent, but I’m inclined to believe these are the same people, and I’m more inclined to believe that their graves display their accurate ages. This estimates his birth year as 1773 / 1774, meaning he was 21 or 22 when he married 18-year-old Frances Laurens.
Find A Grave connects this grave to that of a man named William H. Henderson, born in 1816. If this is the son of Francis Henderson and Elizabeth Gouffran, the H likely stands for Hoggan, as another grave found is for a nine-year-old girl named Elizabeth Hoggan Henderson, the “eldest daughter of Francis & Elizabeth G. Henderson.” A grave for a Robert J., who was listed on the 1850 census, is not connected. However, a Newport record does list the death of a Robert James Henderson, born est. 1826 and died in 1914, and is described as the son of Francis Henderson and Elizabeth G. Henderson.
With this knowledge, my personal current belief is that after arriving in Rhode Island, Francis Henderson Sr remarried to Elizabeth Gouffran, and they had at least three children, possibly four or more, including daughters named Elizabeth and Janet, a son named Robert, and possibly another son named William. Unlike Francis Junior, all of these children remained in Newport, Rhode Island. There is no evidence that, unlike their father, they vacationed in South Carolina as they are not mentioned in Reminiscences despite it otherwise being very information heavy. They likely never left / moved away from Newport, unlike their older half-brother.

8. Uncanny & 9. Free Day & 10. Modern AU
8. Uncanny (Nancy)
(Ronance AU Part 1/3 - Inspired by Totally Killer)
Nancy went with Robin to the local Hawkins fun fair.
Nancy and Robin were about to go in the photobooth, when they saw a tall blonde girl in colorful clothing leave the attraction, looking very thrown.
"Don't go in there!" The girl warned.
"Why?" Nancy questioned.
"You look really familiar." Robin stared at the girl. "Are we related or something, or are you me from the future?"
Nancy noticed the uncanny resemblance between Robin and this stranger, who looked near identical to her.
"I don't know, maybe." The girl looked around at the strange new place. "I'm Eleanor Levetan, what year is this?"
"1986." Nancy answered, wondering why Eleanor looked so shocked, at what felt obvious.
"Maybe you really are from the future." Robin gasped. "I'm Robin, Robin Buckley. I don't understand how we look so alike and not related. I thought this would be some Back To The Future moment."
"I don't understand, I need to get back to my time." Eleanor sighed. "I have an internship in Hawkins in my time."
"What exactly is your time?" Robin asked.
"2022." Eleanor replied, Nancy and Robin were shocked by this.
"2022?! Wow I have so many questions, or is it better not to ask?" Robin wondered out loud. "Knowing about the future, might create problems in this timeline."
"Why can't you go back in the photobooth and go back to 2022? Is the photobooth broken?" Nancy asked, wanting to help.
"Yeah and there's a scary masked serial killer on the loose, like that movie Scream. I thought they might've chased me here." Eleanor replied. "Oh you don't have Scream yet, you'll love those movies."
"I'm so sorry this happened to you Eleanor." Nancy said sympathetically. "Let's sit and we can come up with a plan from there."
9. Free Day (Robin)
(Ronance AU Part 2/3 - Inspired by Totally Killer)
Robin couldn't believe they'd just met their own doppleganger.
While sitting on a bench with Nancy and Eleanor, discussing the plan, Robin couldn't help but admire how cool Eleanor was.
Eleanor had a pin with a lesbian flag on her jacket, that Drea had brought her. Eleanor also had a similar music taste to them, considering there was a near 40 years difference in their timelines.
"I'll go over the plan one more time." Nancy explained. "We'll get the kids help to fix the time machine, then we get Eleanor back safe."
"I can't ask you guys to do that." Eleanor replied worried. "You know there's a killer out for me in 2022?"
"It beats the Upside Down." Robin responded, then saw Nancy give her a look, prompting Robin to change the subject before Eleanor could question it.
"I trust Nancy, she's in charge." Robin smiled and confidently replied. "We've been places you wouldn't believe. We'll come prepared with weapons to defend ourselves against the killer."
"Thank you Robin." Nancy replied.
Nancy saw her younger brother Mike and his friends. Nancy convinced them to help, without following them to the future, by reluctantly agreeing to play D&D with them.
Robin went with Eleanor, as Eleanor introduced herself to the others. Dustin took the lead in attempting to fix the photobooth, fascinated by the time travel. Mike, Will and Lucas also inspected the machine. Eleven tried to help fix the photobooth with her powers.
Once the photobooth was fixed. Robin, Nancy and Eleanor thanked the party.
Later that evening, Robin, Nancy and Eleanor went back to the photobooth. Nancy with her gun, Robin with Steve's axe and Eleanor with Steve's bat. They time-travelled to 2022.
10. Modern AU (Nancy)
(Ronance AU Part 3/3 - Inspired by Totally Killer)
Nancy was cautious taking Eleanor back to where she was staying, but felt there was safety in numbers.
"What was your internship, Eleanor?" Nancy asked, still in patrol mode.
"It's for the Hawkins Post. I'm going to be a journalist for their website this summer." Eleanor answered. "It seems really cool, the boss, she said I have great potential."
Nancy was relieved at how much Hawkins Post had changed for the better, since she was an intern. Eleanor had a female boss and a chance to write there.
"I'm happy for you, it sounds so much better now, than it was in 85." Nancy said.
Suddenly, someone in a mask holding a knife, jumped out on Eleanor, before Nancy could finish her thought. Eleanor knocked the killer out and to the ground with the bat, she then took the mask off.
"Vecna!" Nancy screamed and shot him. Robin grabbed matches from their pocket and set Vecna on fire, watching him burn, as Nancy kept shooting Vecna to be sure he's really dead and not coming back.
Another masked killer suddenly grabbed Robin, as Robin attacked them with the axe and screamed. "Watch out, there's another one!!"
"Don't shoot!!" A familiar voice yelled, as he took his mask off. It was an older Will Byers, looking very upset.
"Will?!" All of them asked, shocked and in disbelief, how could Will hurt or even want to hurt anyone?
"I'm so sorry, he possessed me. You have to believe me." Will dropped the mask to the floor and looked at Nancy with tears in his eyes. "Please, I never want to hurt anyone, I just want to go home."
Nancy always trusted Will, his apology and reaction showed he wasn't in control, knowing how easily he'd been manipulated by the Mind Flayer and other creatures of the Upside Down in the past.
"I believe you." Nancy sighed.
"How do you know we can trust him?" Eleanor asked. "He just grabbed Robin and was wearing the mask, he could've killed us or hurt us, or others."
"He's Will Byers." Nancy smiled fondly. "My little brother's best friend, the sweetest boy I've ever known, who loved playing D&D with his friends. That's all I need to know."
Robin agreed with Nancy. "Like I said earlier, Nancy's in charge."
Eleanor still was unconvinced, but went with it. As Nancy and Robin took Eleanor and Will back to their homes, before going back in the photobooth, back home to Hawkins 1986.

The Beast of Dunnottar
Also on AO3 | Harringrove | Medieval Omegaverse, Arranged Marriage | 792 words
Why? Why not?
Tumblr media
At least the Scots was fair. He had blue eyes and tanned skin, a fine looking tunic dyed a deep red bringing out the gold in his curls.
He'd heard his father talk about how Hargrove was some kind of beast, rumored to have killed his father. Steve was expecting a large and fearsome alpha, covered in blood or something. Hargrove looked to be around Steve's age and size, though Steven was quite large for an omega, even a male.
Steven had stammered through the introductions, tripping over his traditional Omega's skirts. He was more used to wearing braes at home, when his father was often away and the servants let him have the run of the house. But it would be improper to appear in anything other than skirts for his new Lord. Or Laird. Actually, Steven wasn't entirely positive on Hargrove's title.
Hargrove just watched him, those cold blue eyes taking Steven in like he knew what he looked Steven looked like naked. He let his sister speak for him, negotiating with Steven's father and Hopper, the Steward. If Hargrove had any specifics he wanted in the marriage, he must have worked it out with his sister ahead of time.
Steven's father tried to phrase it delicately, bringing up the broken marriage with the Wheelers, and trying to assure Hargrove in the most animated language that Steven was a pure omega, and he needed to have no worries.
But Hargrove's sister just laughed, looking at her brother as if sharing a joke.
"I'll have the Pretty Boy," He growled, speaking for the first time. "Din'ae care if he's pure."
It was all done too soon for Steven to understand. It felt like he blinked and he was in front of the bishop, Hargrove's warm hand taking his and grounding him. It felt like he was floating above the world, unable to come back down.
At the wedding feast he must have talked. He was known to be gay and merry at feasts.
But his bridal joy was tempered with the knowledge that they would leave immediately for the boarder. Steven wasn't sure he was ready to leave Hawkins castle. It was said Hargrove's home was on the sea. Steve had never seen the sea. Perhaps his new husband intended to throw him in it.
At least there was Lady Max, who was currently charming all of Steven's omegas in waiting, especially Sir Lucas de Sinclair. She seemed kind enough. Lady Heather, Hargrove's steward, also seemed kind enough, though not much one for talking.
As the feast wound down in the early morning, Hopper's wife Joyce and daughter Eleanor Jane were pinching Steve's cheeks, making him promise to write, which just made him cry more, as he was awful at writing and he had no idea if Hargrove would let him send them. All Steve's boys were crying, and he had to tear himself away. At least there would be his maid and her son, Sir Henderson with him, so he would not be quite so alone but they would be traveling separately in a few days time, delayed by sickness.
He was surprised to see the Hargrove Clan had brought a carriage for his conveyance, though it was not in the best condition, and mainly stuffed with all of Steven's chests. He was surprised even more when Hargrove followed him in.
In the drafty space, Hargrove's wool dampened alpha scent seemed to fill the space, smelling of the early morning dew and fresh herbs.
"I'll ride along side." Hargrove said haltingly.
"Yes." Steven said, more confused than anything.
"I ought... I... I saw you."
"What?" Steven frowned.
"At the King's Hall. Seasons past. For your presentation. I saw you."
Steven didn't even know what to say to that.
"Prettiest Omega. Struck me silent at the feast, laughing wi' your alpha." Hargrove bowed his head.
Steven's throat felt tight.
"I'm glad tae meet you again," Hargrove reached for Steven's cold hand, kissing the knuckle just above the gold ring set with garnets that he had given as a wedding gift. "Lor' Steven."
Steve let out a breath. "Laird. H-Hargrove."
"William," He smiled, dropping Steven's hand, and Steven wondered if he was called the beast for quite a different reason. His alpha fangs flashed bright white in the dim light from the braziers outside. "Please."
"William."
"Best to get comfortable," Hargrove removed the checked fabric that hung about his neck, handing it over to Steven. "It's a long journey."
Steven wrapped the cloth, still alpha-warm, around himself and tried to settle on the stiffly padded bench. He was still scared but with the warmth laying over his lap and the scent of fresh heather in his nose, he was feeling less alone.

Made With Love (Steve Harrington x Reader)
Made With Love (Rated T)
Request?: Technically YES (say thank you to @bakerstreethound, everyone)
Pairing: Husband!Steve Harrington x Wife!Henderson!Reader
Word Count: 3.2k+
Warnings: Brief infrequent language with a slight innuendo; Reader is also AFAB (a female at birth) due to mention of pregnancy
Summary: For Stevemas Day 10; After getting married, you and Steve started to move into his parents' old home. Upon packing, you come across some of Steve's old belongings. When more of these creations keep popping up, you come to discover your husband has a bit of a surprise for you. What happens when it turns out you have a surprise of your own?
Tumblr media
The first experience you had with Steve’s new hobby happened shortly after you moved into your new home. Well, your new home, his old one. Once the two of you officially tied the knot, Steve’s parents allowed their son to take ownership of their home. In actuality, it had taken a lot of convincing to get them to feel comfortable moving into a smaller place on the outskirts of Hawkins. For months, your husband needed to go back and forth packing and unpacking boxes of yours and theirs.
It was a lot of work, but he wouldn’t have changed it for the world. The end result was the two of you finally have a place to call your own. You finally had somewhere to settle down and have the family you both laid awake for hours imagining.
You were home.
One night when you were unpacking boxes, you came across some of Steve’s old things. Before the house, your shared apartment was incredibly small, just cozy enough for the two of you to cuddle on the couch to watch tapes from work and go to bed together every night. Most of your belongings had either ended up stashed in boxes in the closet or in your mother’s garage until you had found a more permanent home. Sure, you had to share space with your younger brother’s mad science lab, but at least your stuff was safe…relatively speaking.
You hardly remembered seeing this box prior to the move and curiosity was a temptress. As you flipped open the lid, a smile fluttered against your face when you noticed a soft knitted blanket nestled atop other trinkets. You reached in to pull it out and found yourself immediately wrapping it around your frame. It was a mishmash of pastel colors: blues and greens and purples all intertwined by the softest yarn you had ever felt in your life. You assumed it was a gift to Steve from his grandma, Eleanor Louise Harrington.
When you were dating, Steve would tell you the most wonderful stories about the woman who was always there for him. She would be in charge of watching over him whenever his parents were out of town at a young age, which was more often than not. Grandma Eleanor was the reason little Steve loved the holidays. She’d always make it special for him, whether it was reading the Twas the Night Before Christmas every Christmas Eve or teaching him to make her special gingersnaps for Santa. When she passed away when he was thirteen, Steve had needed to learn the hard way how the world wasn’t always made of the magic Grandma Eleanor helped him believe in.
It wasn’t until he met you that his Christmas spirit slowly started to make its return.
You placed the blanket back in the box and set it on your husband’s side of the closet. Even though you had already peeked inside, you didn’t want to invade the remainder of his privacy. For the rest of the day, your gaze would lock onto the box and a smile would fall upon your features before you kissed Steve for being sentimental. Now, Steve himself didn’t understand just why you were being so affectionate, but there was one thing he knew for a fact: he would never refuse kisses from the love of his life.
 ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫
Your second encounter occurred a few months later, once the winter chill began to set in. You had been waiting in Hawkins High’s parking lot behind the wheel of your husband’s treasured BMW for your brother to barge out and demand entry into the passenger’s seat. Steve had decided to take on another shift at Family Video in order to have a little extra cash for holidays, so you volunteered to pick Dustin up from school.
“It’s alright if you need to use the heat, babe,” Steve had called out. “It’s cold out there. Don’t need you turning into a popsicle before Christmas!”
“Good thing I have you to warm me up when I get back,” you teased with a smile and a wink, fingers snatching up the keys from his left coat pocket.
“A husband’s job is never done, is it?” Steve gave a rather dramatic sigh.
As you made contact with the cold metal, your hand brushed something else much softer. You frowned as you reached deeper inside the pocket and pulled out a grey knitted glove. It was slightly misshapen but made from soft yarn, similar to that of the blanket still stashed away in your shared bedroom. Without thinking, you raised it up into the air in question toward your husband.
“Think I might steal these,” you called out and grabbed the matching mitt from his pocket before you head out the door toward his car.
A knock on the passenger window snapped you from your thoughts. As you turned your head, you noticed Dustin waving at you with a frown on his face. “Can you open the door?” his muffled shout questioned. “I’m freezing my nuts off out here.”
His naturally curly hair looked matted as he yanked off his hat: a red knitted trapper. “Jesus,” he continued to ramble as he tugged on the seat belt across his form. “Where were you?! It has to be like negative ten outside.”
“I’ve been waiting out here for the last thirty minutes!” you argued. “I was starting to think you had gotten a ride from someone else.”
“I mean where were you just now? I was knocking on the window for at least five minutes.”
Oh, whoops. “Sorry.” You reached over the center console to adjust the heat and turn up the radio. A smile formed as “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” began to play over the speakers. “Guess I got a little bit distracted.”
Your brother scoffed. “I’ll say,” he muttered. “Get married and all of a sudden, you and Steve hardly ever pay attention to us anymore. Do you guys ever take a breath from sucking face or is that just around me?”
“Dustin!”
“Fine, fine!” Dustin held his hands up in mock surrender. “Can you just drop me off at Mike’s? We’re supposed to be planning this oneshot for when Will finally gets back home.”
There was a pregnant pause that lingered throughout the car as you shifted gears and started the trek to the Wheeler’s residence. You felt Dustin’s eyes on you the entire time. His mouth opened and then shut a few times, as though he was preparing to ask you something and had decided against it.
“Something’s different about you,” he mused. You felt his stare on you, much more focused than before. In your peripheral, you noticed he was squinting now. “Did you get a haircut?”
“...No?” you shifted self-consciously in the driver’s seat. Your brother was the Sherlock Holmes of the family, detective extraordinaire. Great for uncovering interference from the Upside Down, not so much when it comes to getting involved in your personal life. “And will you stop staring at me like that?” You waved a free mitten-covered hand in his direction. “It’s freaking me the hell out.”
“Oh, he gave you a pair, too!” Dustin noted with a grin. “They’re a lot better than his first try, aren’t they?”
You frowned and risked a quick glance in his direction before you returned your gaze to the road ahead. “What?”
“The gloves! Steve gave ‘em to you, right?”
“Not exactly,” you explained. “I took them from his coat. What do you mean they’re better than his first try?”
The car returned to silence once again.
“Dustin?”
Silence. A quick look over toward your brother revealed he had suddenly become interested in the fresh piles of snow against the side of the road. Nose wrinkled, you shook your head and pulled into the Wheeler’s street. Unfortunately for Dustin, mystery solving was in your genetics, and this was one question you wanted answered.
⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫
“Babe?” you called out as you walked into the foyer of the house that evening. When you had taken Steve’s car from work, you had left him yours in the parking lot. You were surprised to see it back in the driveway once you arrived home after dropping Dustin off. Your stay had been much longer than you anticipated, with Nancy trying to make plans to finish Christmas shopping with you later in the week since she was home from Boston.
“Shit,” came the faint hiss of your husband’s voice from the living room. As you started to make your way toward the sound, you heard him clear his throat. “You’re back early, babe. I thought Dustin wanted to go to the mall to do some shopping.”
“Uh, no. He needed us to drop him off at the Wheelers. Something about some campaign they’ve been planning for Will,” you said with a frown. “Why is it so dark in here?”
As you flicked the lights on, you couldn’t help but blink at the sight before you. There was your husband perched in one of the armchairs you had gotten from your mother. He was wearing his wire-framed glasses, a side-effect of a few too many blows to the noggin over the years. Half a blanket was draped over his knee, pooling onto the floor below. As you walked closer, you noticed two large metal sticks in his hands. They were twitching as he stared over at you owlishly with wide eyes.
“Did you…make this?” you whispered almost far too quietly as you knelt down to lift up the edge of the blanket. Running your hand along it, you smiled at the soft yarn’s texture. It was a beautiful blanket with its blend of purples, orange, and yellows. The pattern reminded you of your favorite time of day: sunset. When you started dating, you used to drag Steve to the top of Walker’s Mountain to watch it almost every night. To most people, the setting of the sun meant the end of another busy day. To you, though, it was a reminder of how you survived another day no matter what evils may have been against you.
“Uh, y-yeah,” Steve stuttered. “It was mostly me.”
You tilted your head to look up at him. “Mostly?”
“Well, Virginia helped. Marge, too.”
“Marge? Virginia?” An amused smile tugged at the corner of your lips. “Something I have to be worried about, honey?”
“No!!” your husband was quick to exclaim. “No, no. They’re just…”
“Just…?”
A sigh escaped Steve’s lips as he set the knitting needles down into his lap. He leaned forward to ghost his lips against your hairline. “Look,” he said. “I’ve uh, I’ve been going to the community center between shifts at the store on Saturday. There’s this class they host– more like a club.” He hesitated, glancing between you and the blanket in his lap. “They teach you how to knit.”
You smiled. “So you’ve been learning to knit?”
“Yeah.” He nodded. “It’s actually been…nice, you know? Helps give me something to do. I don’t feel as helpless as I used to. It’s more peaceful than anything.”
“You know I wouldn’t tease you for this, right?” you asked, hands reaching up to gently cradle his face. Your heart strained at the thought of Steve being afraid of getting judged by you for what his father would have considered a so-called woman’s hobby. “I think it’s great you’ve found a hobby.”
“What?” Steve asked in shock. “No- no, that’s not why I was- oh, shit, babe. Did you think I didn’t want to- oh, no. That’s not it. I was going to tell you!” He chuckled a bit and sighed, lifting up the unfinished blanket in his lap. “I, uh, I just didn’t want to until I finished this.”
“Is this,” you started, “for me?”
Your husband nodded and used one hand to smooth out the knitted material. “I know how much you love sunsets,” he said quietly, “and I know we missed a lot of them with everything that went down over the years. I thought this might make up for it.”
You practically melted into a puddle from your kneeling position on the floor. Without another word, you bounced up as pressed your lips to his, ignoring the awkward feeling of his frames as they pressed into your face. “I love you,” you breathed out as you broke apart.
“I love you, too,” Steve was quick to reply. “I just didn’t want to jinx myself and mess up this surprise, you know?”
You smiled and nodded. “Yeah, I get it,” you soothed. “But, uh, I think you might need to make a few adjustments to it.”
Steve’s face dropped. “Is something wrong with it? Do you not like it?!” he fretted. “Oh God, I knew I should have picked another pattern–”
“Babe,” you interrupted. “That’s not what I meant.”
“What?”
Hiding a smile, you reached across his lap to smooth out the blanket. You absentmindedly started to trace shapes into it as you glanced up at him. “It’s a beautiful blanket, Steve,” you said slowly. “But I think it’ll need to be a little bigger.”
Steve furrowed his brow and tilted his head to the side. “What are you talking about?” he asked. “This should be plenty big for us to use on the couch.”
“For right now, yeah,” you chose your words carefully. A knowing smile threatened to stretch around your lips and you had to fight the urge to let it show. “But I don’t think that’ll be the case in a year.”
Steve followed your gaze lower down your body, resting upon your abdomen. You couldn’t help it. A risked glance back up at him told you his brain was slowly putting the pieces together. “Are you-” he asked, eyes snapping up to meet yours. “Are you really?”
When your smile finally broke free and you nodded, your husband all but threw his unfinished product across the room and pulled you into a heated kiss. As you threaded your fingers through the hair on the back of his neck, you felt his lips curl into a smile against your own. His fingers danced their way under the hem of your shirt and pressed themselves against the skin of your stomach. He let them linger there for a moment before he released you on his lap.
“I was going to wait until Christmas to tell you,” you admitted, “but I just couldn’t help it. Especially when you were being as sweet as this.”
Steve laughed, a genuine one that sent butterflies soaring within your stomach. Your heart swelled at the sight of pure happiness which radiated off of him in waves. “That little shit was right,” he said between chuckles. “Knew I should have listened to him.”
You rolled your eyes. Leave it to your little brother’s observational skills to almost ruin the moment.
⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫ ⧫
One year later, you sat on the couch with Steve’s sunset blanket across your lap and two little babies asleep in your arms. It had been a long and eventful year, but you wouldn’t have traded this moment for anything. This year was Amelia and Emery’s first Christmas as part of your little family and you couldn’t be happier.
Yes, you and Steve hardly had any sleep the night before, thanks to last minute preparations between the screams of hungry twins. Yes, you were already exhausted despite only being fully awake for two hours. Yet this was the moment you had been dreaming about for twelve months. You weren’t so much as going to blink if it meant risking losing a moment of this special day.
A few moments later, Steve slid onto the couch beside you with two mugs of hot chocolate in hand. As much as you would kill for a real caffeine hit, you couldn’t resist the alluring smell of melted chocolate and cinnamon. Your husband placed his mug on the coffee table and reached for Em so you could take the warm beverage from his other hand.
The two of you enjoyed the peaceful sounds of cooing four-month-olds paired with the soft hum of Christmas carols played over the radio for a while. As you leaned against your husband, he pressed a kiss to your temple and gently tapped your side – a signal to adjust your position. He placed a sleeping Em into the portable crib you had brought downstairs the previous evening before doing the same for Amy.
“Sorry,” he apologized with a meek smile. “I would’ve let them sleep there, but I have something for you.” He walked over to the tree and picked up a small box wrapped in candy cane patterned paper. When he came back to the couch, he set it atop the blanket on your lap and moved to sit down with an arm draped over your shoulders.
“I thought we said no gifts for each other this year,” you mused. “It was just for the girls.”
“We did,” Steve agreed with a nod. “I mean, technically I didn’t break that promise. It’s not anything big, I promise. I just…I thought you might like it.”
You shot him a questioning glance before you used your fingers to delicately tear at the wrapping, being incredibly careful not to wake the sleeping children nearby. When you opened the box, a small gasp escaped your lips. Inside, wrapped in a cocoon of white tissue paper, were two small Santa hats. Knitted in a yarn as red of holly berries, both hats were adorned with a fuzzy white pom-pom and trim around the brim. When you lifted them out of the box, you began to tear up. At the brim of each hat was a series of embroidery of your daughters’ names: Amelia Robin Harrington and Emery Louise Harrington.
Overcome with emotion, you immediately turned to look at your husband. Steve was already looking down at you, concern etched on his features. “Are you okay, sweetheart?” he asked, voice shaking slightly. “Do you not like it–”
Just like you did twelve months ago, you silenced his ramblings with a kiss. This time, it was one of pure unadulterated love. You clung onto his blue and white Christmas sweater for dear life. Tears of happiness pricked at your eyes as you ran a hand against the side of his face. When you broke apart, you sent him a teary smile. “You really are amazing, Steve Harrington,” you whispered. “I love you.”
“I love you, too,” he answered almost immediately.
You turned your attention back down to the little hats in your lap and glanced over to the portable crib that held your sleeping angels. You knew it would be a struggle to keep the hats on for long, but you hoped it would at least last until Jonathan arrived with his camera later on in the evening.
This was by far the best Christmas you had ever had and deep down you knew this was only the beginning. You smiled fondly to yourself as you thought about all of the other Christmas Days your little family would have for the rest of your lives. It had been a tough journey to get to where you were, but you wouldn't have changed a second for the world because you and Steve found your family…
…and that's all you could ever want or need.
============
Author's Note: I'm not crying, you are. No seriously, I had so much fun writing down this idea after receiving this through an ask by the amazing Ace. I got to explore the early days of Dad!Steve and learn more about his life with the reader a bit along the way. My only frustration is I couldn't keep this fic as gender neutral as I would have liked, but I'm still incredibly happy with how it came out.
We're only two fics away from the end of Stevemas. How are we liking the event so far?! If you enjoyed this fic and want to see more like it on my blog, make sure to leave a comment, tag a friend who you think might like it, and reblog this post! Likes are appreciated, but it's these other interactions that really help spread the word about my writing and motivate me to keep creating content like this for you all to enjoy! If you want to keep up to date with the last few days of Stevemas or want to see more of my work in the future, maybe consider giving my blog a follow, too! I promise I won't spam you too much with promoting other writers' amazing works :)
Until next time, my little sparks <3

A/N: I am an emotional wreck after that last episode. No spoilers here, just looking for a place to put my feelings. Let's check in on our pals John and Ellie.
five. out of order.
Her first few letters are short, silly, rambling. He devours every word.
His heart is still pounding and he knows he's had a silly smile on his face for the last hour or so as he sits up with the light on. The nurse on duty has told him to go to bed a few different times, but he can't help it.
It's like a book you can't put down, the way she's written to him. He still can't believe it.
The next letter unfolds on crisp, sharp white paper, her words in loopy script that slants slightly - she’s left handed, he’s learned.
Dear Major Egan,
If we would have had more time, I would have asked how you prefer to be addressed. I hear your friends call you Bucky, but it feels too… familiar, somehow.
I hope you’re safe.
The last time we spoke, there was something in your eyes that I recognized from the last time my brother was on leave, and that’s why I felt I had to turn you away. I hope you don’t think less of me - turning away a perfectly good patron isn’t normally standard practice, you see.
I thought about it for a long time after you left. By now you’re probably getting ready to fly, and I hope you aren’t too reckless. I don’t know if you see it, but so many people care about you and want you to come back. You might break Mrs. Henderson’s heart if you don’t swipe flowers from her garden ever again.
I hope you’re well. I’ll write to you again soon.
Yours,
Eleanor Peters
He can feel the indent in the page where she signed her name. He imagines her sitting under dim lamp light, writing to someone who only spoke to her on occasion and usually when he was rip roaring drunk.
For a moment, he feels unbearably ashamed. But he remembers when he had come to apologize to her and when she had given him something to think about for those years locked behind the wire - the way she wrote to him the entire time he was gone.
She wouldn’t have done that if she didn’t think he was worth it… right?
He finally falls asleep and when he wakes, Buck is there. He’s reading, and Bucky wonders if he slept at all the night before.
It was hard for him too, to get used to being able to sleep through the night without the fear of being awoken or the instinct to keep one eye open.
“Sleep well?” Buck asks, not looking up until he dog ears the corner of his page.
“Fine. You?”
Buck shakes his head. “Not really.” He meets his friend’s gaze. “Hard to get used to the quiet.”
Bucky nods. “Flying again today?”
“Later.” Buck confirms.
“I think— I think I need to go speak to Ellie. As soon as I get cleared to be up and about.”
Buck’s eyebrows rise. “Yeah?” A smile is growing on his face.
Bucky rolls his eyes. “Shut up.”
Buck laughs. “I didn’t say anything.”
“It was your face that said it.”
“I think she could be real good for you, John.” Buck says, still snickering a little. “She seemed nice.”
“Don’t know what I’ve got to offer anyone, much less someone like her.” Bucky mutters.
“Hey. You remember what I told you?” Buck leans forward, elbows on his knees. “You’re worth knowing. She wanted to know you back then, if those letters are anything to go off of.”
"Yeah." Bucky looks at the small table at his bedside, to where the stack of envelopes sits. He thinks of the last one in the stack. The one that's already wrinkled from him reading it over and over.
Bucky,
I've decided I've been writing to you long enough to call you by your moniker, though if I'm wrong feel free to address anything you write back to me as Miss Eleanor - it's what everyone else calls me, and you want to know a secret? I hate my first name.
It sounds too matronly, but no one calls me Ellie, not really. Only a few of my closest friends.
I've been writing to you now for over a year. I haven't posted a single envelope. By now, I know that you're alive at least. That was a relief. But I still don't know where to send letters, and if I did, I don't know how you'd take them. This friendship seems awfully one-sided at the moment, though of course that's my fault.
I wish I would have had the guts to post some of these letters, but especially this one, for a few reasons.
Major Crosby stopped by today and I tried to be coy when I asked of any word of you, but I think he's picking up on the hints. Oh, I hope he doesn't give you too much grief about it when you get back (because you will get back) - so I figure the cat's out of the bag now, so to speak.
I keep hearing rumblings about camps all over Europe. Horrible, evil things, and my heart just aches thinking of you in a place like that. You don't deserve any of this, and even if it sounds ridiculous - I barely know you - I just feel it deep down. That you're a good person.
The last reason I wish I had enough courage to send this is to say thank you. Because as much as I started writing these letters for you, they've become something that's truly helped me, too. I enjoy writing little mundane things about my day and it makes me feel as if I'm not so alone here either. Things are quiet in the village as always, and I don't have many friends. It's just me, my younger brother Henry, and my Dad. No word on when my brother Daniel might be home yet, and it’s too quiet in our house.
I've been rambling too long. Like I said, maybe someday you'll read this, and maybe someday I'll have the guts to just tell it right to your handsome face in person: I think I'm smitten with you, Major John Egan, and I should have told you that before you left.
I hope you think of me sometimes. It's a little selfish, but I'll say it anyway.
I hope you're safe.
Yours (and I mean that),
Ellie
When he first read that, he felt so clearly that he could see inside her brain. He felt her nerves to be writing it, the way she felt a little silly at writing to someone who she barely knew, but especially knowing she was never going to send it.
But he also feels his heart tighten every time he reads the last paragraph, because he knows exactly how she feels. While he wishes she would have found a way to get these letters mailed, he also loves the way he's gotten to know her like this.
Through her own written word, he feels like he's lived the last two years right here with her, going through her day and getting to know who she is.
They're doing this all out of order. He knows it's ridiculous.
But he can't help but feel a little head over heels with her, too.
He thinks it's too soon to tell her that, no matter what she's said in her letter. But he feels it, nonetheless. Stranger things have happened.
Buck is still watching him, a small smile on his face. "You want me to call down to the pub and see if she'll come by and sit with you for awhile?"
Bucky tenses, but decides he's done feeling embarrassed about the whole thing. "You'd save me going AWOL and getting my head ripped off by Nurse Wells," he says casually.
"You got it. I'll see what I can do." His friend says, rising to his feet.
"Be careful." Bucky says, out of habit. These missions, they're milk runs, but he still tenses watching Buck walk away from him. He wonders if that feeling is ever going to go away.
Buck waves over his shoulder, and then he's gone.
.
An hour later, he hears the click of her shoes before he sees her. He imagines he can smell the sweet floral of her perfume too.
"Heard you missed me." She says, sitting down with a parcel in her lap, no fanfare.
He grins. "Maybe. Whatcha got there?"
"Thought you could do with a home cooked -- well, pub cooked - meal." She blushes a little, but then straightens like she's come to a decision. "Besides, if you're not well enough to take me out to dinner yet, then I'll bring dinner to you."
He's well and truly gone.
She eyes the stack of letters on his table. "You've read them all?"
His eyes are dark with emotion when he meets her gaze. "A few times."
"And?" She sounds nervous. "Do you think l'm completely mental?"
He laughs. "Ellie, I know we're doing this a little out of order." He reaches for her hand. "But I know everything I need to know about you. And I'm sure about this." He arches an eyebrow, "That is, if you're still smitten."
She blushes in full then, trying to pull her hand away from his. He doesn't let her; tugs her closer, and kisses her temple when he can reach her. He sees her shoulders relax.
"This is crazy." She says, breathless.
"Maybe." He shrugs. "But look-- I thought I wasn't ever going to get back here. And I don't know what's going to happen next. But after the last two years... I'd like to figure it out. With you. If you'll have me."
Her eyes well up with tears, and he frowns, thinking he's gone too far, but then she's leaning forward, pressing her lips against his lightly, and everything goes click inside his heart.
He's right where he's meant to be.

Walter Henderson confessed to kissing his cousin. Bob was Henry's understudy opposite Patty in Dark of the Moon. Virginia is touchy-feely with Henry to the point of feeling like I'm watching Fatal Attraction. Brenner and Henry argue like a man and his brutalized wife. He flat out tells Henry that he's unlovable, that he (Brenner) is all Henry has. He says "You'll come crawling back to me" while Henry tries to run out the audience exits...all this after Brenner claiming he and Henry were going to work as father and son.
And we still have questions about Creelers/Mike's second cousin, Eleanor?

I did more surface level research on Francis Henderson Sr's family. I did some basics back in March, which you can see here. Something else that is important for later information is the research into the possible descendants of Francis Henderson Jr, which you can find here. With new evidence that's popped up, I think it's even more likely that Francis Henderson Jr possibly had a child.
To start, as far as I'm aware, there seems to only be evidence of four children by Francis Sr and his second wife, Elizabeth. William Hoggan Henderson (1816 - 1897), Elizabeth Hoggan Henderson (d. 1828 aged nine), Janet Henderson Carruthers (1822 - 1856), and Robert James Henderson (c. 1826 - c. 1914).
William married a woman named Mary (1817 - 1906). The couple only had one child, Anna, born 1849 and died 1855 at the age of six.
Janet obviously married due to her surname, but I couldn't find any information regarding her marriage, or if she had any children. It's likely that the marriage was short-lived and childless, as she died at 34 and was buried with her parents.
Robert has the most sources out of all of his siblings (including Francis Jr). Robert married a woman named Haley Russel Salisbury. Apparently, she was born in France. They had at least three children, a daughter named Mary Phillips Henderson, born c. 1862, and another daughter born in 1865 probably named Isabel Henderson. They had another son, William H Henderson, born c. 1869.
I couldn't find any later sources for Mary or Isabel (but to be completely honest, I didn't look too hard), but I found one for William. He married a woman named either named Bertha or Elizabeth and had four children. Mary, born c. 1892, William, born c. 1895, George, born c. 1900, and....Mahala, born 1906.
Now, if you read the research I did on the supposed descendants of Francis Jr, you probably had the same reaction I did, of "Hmm??? Mahala???" While I initially wrote it off as a wild coincidence, when I went back to all of my previous research on Mahala (who, for the uninitiated, was allegedly the only surviving grandchild of Francis Jr), it actually lines up shockingly well. Mahala, her husband Coleman, and their children all moved to Rhode Island sometime between 1898 and 1900. I even pointed out in my post that the fact Mahala and her family decided to go to Rhode Island, where their supposed great-grandfather's family lived, was interesting. And Mahala isn't exactly a common name, even in this time period.
I don't know. It seems pretty likely to me that Mahala got into contact with her maybe-cousins and decided to go live with them. It's obviously just speculation; it could just be a wild coincidence.
I haven't done any further research because I was just eager to share after being gone for apparently eight months.

Ok @chocoarts , I'm ready to go on a ramble! Thanks so much for answering my request! I hope my ramble does your art justice!
So! Steve and Robin are destined to work together, no matter how they meet or what they do. I know that most folks on the internet think that Robin wouldn't be great with little kids, while Steve would be the master. However! I personally like the idea that they're /both/ great with kids! I'm not usually one for no-Upside-down aus, but I can't really think of another way that this would work, so.
I'll bet that Steve and Robin met while volunteering at the Hawkins Daycare center. They bond over a love of kids and hatred for the people in charge. Y'see, Hawkins kinda reminds me of the area I grew up in a little bit, and something that's happened, both in my community and the town where my mom works, is that daycares and pre-schools start out as genuine nonprofits, existing for the sake of the community. But over time, they become super exclusive, expensive, and mildly corrupt. I imagine that if Hawkins had a daycare center, that's what would happen.
*oh, by the way, I have nothing against day care centers or all you folks who run them in a general sense. I know how difficult it is to take care of little kids to an extent, and I respect you all for what you do. It's just the ones in my community that I know of that are like that.*
Anyway...
So Steve and Robin see this and decide, hey, Steve's parents may be assholes, but they haven't cut him off yet, so why don't they use that money to open their own daycare center? They would call it Bat-man and Robin's Junior Bat-cave, because Steve plays baseball in this au. Also because of this meme:
Tumblr media
By the way, they decided to add hyphens to the DC related parts of the name to escape a potential lawsuit. That's my logic, and I'm sticking to it. Cool? Cool.
So Steve and Robin open their daycare, and they keep their fees as inexpensive as they possibly can without it being detrimental to the business. One of their first customers is a single mom by the name of Claudia Henderson.
It takes a minute for Dustin to warm up to Steve and Robin, because even as a 3-year-old, people give him a hard time about his disease, cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD), which he worked really hard to learn how to pronounce.
Steve and Robin don't treat him any differently. The only acknowledgement they make of his CCD is when they have to follow his daily medical needs, which I assume exist, but I have no idea what they'd be. When this sinks in, he warms right up to them. His favorite thing to do is play spies with the toy walkie-talkie set that Steve got especially for him. He gets bad dreams sometimes about his dad leaving, but Steve is always right there when he wakes up with a sci-fi picture book or Star Wars stuffies to help him feel better.
The next kid to show up is Max Mayfield. She's a sassy little thing. And in this au, N*il dies in a car crash or something, and Billy's mom gets custody of Billy, because he deserves good things, dammit, but Susan doesn't have the money to move her and Max back to Cali. The Junior Batcave is affordable for her. It takes Max a hot second to warm up to Steve, because of N*il, but Robin helps her feel safe, and Steve never pushes her boundaries. That is what gets her to warm up to him. Max likes playing spies with Dustin, but her favorite thing to do is use cardboard as ramps and play with those tiny skateboard toys.
Jane Eleanor "El" Hopper shows up after Hopper adopts her and gets her out of the foster system. She's pretty quiet and timid, but she's got good judgement for a 3-year-old. She warms up to Steve and Robin pretty quick. She calls them Auntie Robin and Mom-Steve. She likes any kind of game, as long as she's with her best friend Max. But her favorite thing to do at daycare is play with Steve's hair. One day, she brings all sorts of clips and ribbons from home. El gets a little sad, because Robin gently tells her, "if it touches your hair, you don't share." Steve immediately goes out to the store to get some new hair supplies, and then El just goes ham on his hair. When she's done, she says that "Mom-Steve is the prettiest ever!" Hearts melt, and there are tears.
When Will shows up, his family is fresh out of a divorce, so he's really quiet and sensitive. He knows that he's welcome to play with Dustin, Max, and El, but he's just too shy. Luckily for him, Mike starts attending at around the same time. They bond over Star Wars with Dustin. And Will just has the best ideas for games if make-believe! When Will leads, Max and El get to be the knights, and Mike is the one who needs saving. Will gets attached to Steve and Robin when they agree to play the dragon and the queen respectively, and help him practice reading when he's not up to playing. Eventually, Will spends so much time reading with Steve that Mike gets jealous, which I think would explain the ankle-biter moment in chocoarts's picture.
Mike is a bit of a jealous kiddo, because baby Holly gets all of Mom and Nancy's attention, and Dad isn't home too often cause of work. That's why, if any of his friends start spending more time with Steve than him, his ankle-biting tendencies surface. Oh, Will would rather read a story with Steve than play knights and castles with Mike? CHOMP! Even so, Steve and Robin both give Mike plenty of attention, so he warms up to them. He copies El, calling Steve Mom-Steve. He also starts calling Robin Auntie Birdie.
Last, but certainly not least, the Sinclair siblings. In this au, I think Lucas and Erica would either be twins, or the age gap would just be a year instead of 4, as it seems to be in canon (Lucas seeming to be a 15-year-old freshman when Erica is 11). Lucas likes playing catch a little more than the other boys, and Steve is always happy to play with him. But, I'm getting ahead of myself. Y'see, I just had the thought that when the Sinclairs tried sending Lucas and Erica to Hawkins Daycare, the two were surrounded by white children who didn't know anything other than the racist bullshit their parents said around them. The employees weren't much better. When the Sinclairs reached out to the Junior Bat-cave, on the other hand, Steve and Robin were perfectly respectful, and made sure the other kids knew to be respectful to Lucas and Erica, too. Anywho, as the two adjust, Steve loves to see how Lucas is just the best big brother. He knows that Erica is still a bit too small for catch, so he rolls his favorite ball around with her, instead. Also, Erica likes dogs in this au, so Steve helps Lucas draw and/or color in pictures of dogs and puppies. Robin is always happy to play with Erica, too. In fact, all the girls love finding all the dog stuffies in the daycare to play dog school, Erica's favorite game.
Alright! That's all I've got for this ramble. If anyone wants to take these ideas and just roll with them, feel free to do so. I hope my ramble did chocoarts's drawing justice!

Moodboard for Serial Killer!Mike and Investigator! Will
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Set in the 1920s
Officer William Byers is a Forensic Artist.
Officer Lucas Sinclair is a Forensic DNA analyst, Officer Eleanor Hopper is a Forensic Psychiatrist and Officer Dustin Henderson an expert Toxicologist
Together they've been assigned by Officer Henry Creel to investigate a series of murders that have been across the city
So far the murders have been Lucas's fiancée Ms. Maxine Mayfield, Ms Chrissy Cunningham, Mr Fred Benson, Mr. Patrick McKinney and Mr Edward Munson. There appears to be no connection between them, or so Dr Michael Wheeler says.
Michael Wheeler is the best forensic doctor in the whole of Indiana and is "helping" them with the case
What happens when all clues point to him, but William seems to have been ensnared in the man's cunning and murderous heart?
