Here's the thing: someone either wrote in the script *LOKI FIXES COAT AND HAIR BEFORE APPROACHING MOBIUS* or Tom Hiddleston just did it in his reaction shot and the editor was like "YES, THIS TAKE, THIS ONE!" But either way, it wasn't accidental, it wasn't coincidental, it didn't just "happen" out of nowhere. Reaction shots are planned, literally, it's entirely possible that Owen Wilson wasn't even there that day and they shot "Loki reacts to seeing Mobius" with Tom and a green screen. The idea that nothing that happens in media is coincidental is kind of bonkers given the amount of moving parts in a movie or show, but a specific reaction shot to one specific character who is not in the shot isn't random.

What I'm saying is. However it ends. You're not reading too much into this, it's all deliberate, they know what they're doing with Lokius. Now, is it because there's a nice gay bts in editing or writing or directing who wants to give us what they can despite Marvel's homophobia? Is it because Lokius might go canon in season 600 when no one except 5 eldergays are still watching? Idk. But. It's real.

Exactly. Fun moment of intergenerational queer friendship: I mentioned that gay estate sale to my eldergay friend, specifically the 1993 March on Washington flag, and he wrote back "I was at that march, it was right in the middle of all the gays in the military stuff so we were part of a contingent of about 30 men and women in jeans and T-shirts and Easter bonnets with a banner that said 'Gays in the Millinery'. We were such a big hit. It was featured on NPR."

Well I was so charmed by that that I did some googling and ended up finding a) someone reminiscing positively about their group, and b) an actual photo of them! My friend immediately recognized himself (circled in blue) and his ex-husband (holding the sign). He thinks he may even still have the hats– he's going to look. If he does, we're going to see if any queer history museum/archive would want them.

So, I have a friend. He’s an older gay man. An ElderGay™️ as I like to think of him. In his early 60’s. Nice dude. He’s never watched Stranger Things before. So I conducted a little experiment.

I showed him three scenes from season 4 and asked for his thoughts on the characters. Those scenes were Mike and Will in Will’s bedroom, the van scene, and Will and Jonathan in the pizza kitchen. And you know what the first thing he said was? Even before the first scene was over? “I think the one in the blue shirt wants to be more than friends with the other one.” I kid you not. Without prompting. Without any context. He watched that scene and clocked Mike Wheeler immediately. It was more obvious to him than Will being gay, and Will is the one who is canonically gay. The van scene only reinforced this opinion of his. And the scene with Will and Jonathan literally made him cry.

I wanted to share this for two reasons. One, to show that removed from the context of Mike’s relationship with El, his feelings for Will are easy to see, even without 3 prior seasons of buildup. And two, the way queer themes are handled in this show are extremely meaningful, especially for older queer people who lived through that era. This man is literally twice my age, and there we both were, with tears running down our faces, watching how Jonathan affirmed and cared for his gay little brother. It’s so important for queer people and their friends and family everywhere to see interactions like these in mainstream entertainment.

i don't spend a ton of time on datalounge but i do peruse it when something big happens or when i need to find out the dirt on someone because somewhere in the matryoshka doll of my gender and sexuality i am a mean eldergay, inside a mean millennial lesbian, inside a sad straight girl. but i have no idea how to post there lol. they make you feel out forms in triplicate and then take months to process them, or something. i think most of the people who post there are old school gay men who've been around since the website launched in like the 90s. the roots run deep. it's an absolutely vicious site and i love it.
