Anyways nothing in the show made me cry till seeing ekko and Mel sitting there alone and it doesn’t even have to do with powder and Jayce it’s the fact that they have to get up the next day its exhausting like there’s so much work to do.
#and sevika to a lesser extent#like it’s less sad for me bc she’s got a support group#like ig it’s bc this is moving up for her#she still has shit to get done but yknow#but for Mel and ekko#she’s gotta deal with being an actual ruler now these new abilities and what they mean#she might be glancing over her shoulder everyday bc what if there’s another black rose#and ekko#man he’s still gotta figure out his tree#and they still have to keep it pushing bc ok fuck playing into the council I hate that sorry#but there’s just so much fucking work to do after 10 minutes of relaxing#and it’s like#idk how to feel about arcane like idk#it feels the same a oitnb to me#commentary on no happy endings but it just so happens the main white characters got theirs#even that jinx lived theory grinds my gears bc it’s like#ofc mel and ekko got the short end of the stick. writing and fandom wise like always#and it’s like the show touches on certain things and can’t follow through bc nobody actually cares about black characters and their stories#but also if this is just expanding into wider lol lore it’s like#having the stories set up or finish in a#I don’t wanna say unsatisfactory but like in a way where it’s real#the ball keeps rolling#that’s cool#but it’s not even that it’s just. more care ig#yeah. I want more care for black characters#I wish whoever fought for cait and vi playing house or saw it as a deserved ending or whatever#someone who decided that mel shouldn’t have finished sitting there alone#that maybe ekko deserved to lay down and sleep even if he cried#like it doesn’t have to be a happy ending. if ekkos last scene was just him sobbing over what he lost it’d feel different#but it’s not in his nature to be that selfish. selfish enough to cry freely. free u my heart. 💔💔💔

well I finished it. you know someone in one of my classes the other day was talking about how the final edit of this show cut out a fair amount of content for the sake of sticking to netflix’s time limit and how you can kind of just Feel that void when you watch it. and i understand now
#like I can’t pinpoint specific scenes/plotlines/whatever off the top of my head rn (my brain is broken now)#but just generally. especially and specifically with the final episode. there’s something lacking and you can feel it#not lacking as in the show being lacking in general- the show’s a fucking masterpiece no doubt about that#but like. the aftermath was so short and kind of cryptic#in a way where you’d absolutely think they’re setting it up for some sort of continuation but. from what im aware they’re not. so#I mean not for this story anyway#but yeah like? hello? the city looks like THAT and im supposed to accept that as a solid ending???#can I have closure????? please??????#ok ok ok ok I fully understand there are CERTAIN things that should be cryptic and I don’t even particularly want answers for#namely jayvik’s Situation. I like that being extremely incredibly open ended. it makes sense. literally no one could possibly know where#they ended up. if they ended up anywhere at all. if it’s another dimension. if they transcended mortality. idk fucking reincarnation.#honeymoon in fiji. becoming one with the arcane. i like to think the honeymoon thing but you know#anyway point is I get something like that being open ended and to a degree I get the decision not to show the entire city being rebuilt and#everyone’s fates in the long run and etc. though again that makes it really feel like they left that room on purpose for future content#but uhhh yeah. ekko’s a big one when it comes to feeling that void. like there had to have been more to his parts that were cut out because#god he was THAT important and didn’t even get to say a proper goodbye to jinx. we didn’t see him talk to her prior to the battle. he just#ends up sitting alone. not even with vi or anyone who IS left like oh I don’t know the COMMUNITY HE BUILT#he’s just sitting there!!!!!!!!!!!!!#at least he’s not dead. at least he’s not dead. augsghh#uhhhhh yeah so. that was that. fuck.#you know what got me at the end (as in post-battle). seeing Jayce’s mom at the ceremony honoring the dead#like fuck that hits like a truck. oh YEAH. he has a MOTHER who LOVES him. and he just. is as good as dead to her. he presumably hadn’t#spoken to her in months– years possibly through his perspective#and then he’s just Gone. graahhhahghhhhhhhh#I have a lot of thoughts I have so many thoughts im going to disintegrate#kibumblabs#arcane

[Arcane preference] reacting to a s/o falling asleep on their lap
The reason I have to post requests like this is because, for some reason, if I post them as Tumblr requests, I can’t find them again when I search for them. Making the masterlist was a real struggle. As usual, I’m using the headcanon to promote my longfic on Arcane, Everytime It Rains.
socials: | INPRNT | | Tip Jar | | X | | BlueSky | | Ao3 |
Jayce:
It often happens when he spends the evening working instead of giving you attention.
You know he doesn’t mean it in a bad way, so you settle for climbing onto his lap, letting your limbs dangle, and resting your face against his chest.
He stays focused on studying the documents in front of him, but one hand holds your head steady to keep you from losing your balance.
He strokes your hair absentmindedly.
When he notices you’ve fallen asleep, he feels a warmth, a tender sort of affection. He doesn’t want to wake you but wishes he had something to drape over your shoulders.
After a while, it becomes his signal that he’s pushed himself too far with work.
That’s the moment when he lifts your face to kiss you before carrying you to bed.
Viktor:
The classic "working on the couch" position, where you first sit next to him to avoid disturbing him, then drape one leg over his lap, and eventually both. By the end of the evening, you’re fully curled up in his arms.
He holds your side, resting his cheek against your head while continuing to read his notes, basking in the warmth of that shared intimacy.
He asks you several times if you’re tired, and when you don’t respond, he smiles softly, realizing exhaustion has won you over.
He pulls the blanket up to cover you both, and even when you grumble in annoyance at his movements, he chuckles and just says, “Just a second”
He works for another couple of hours but never stops stroking your side or giving you small kisses on the forehead.
Ekko:
“Aw, someone’s sleepy here,” is the first thing he says when you take the overboard from his hands, and let yourself plop into his lap, already wrapped in a blanket like a cape.
He doesn’t even try to go back to what he was doing. Instead, he pulls you close, rubbing his face against yours, taking in your scent.
He loves it—maybe even more than cuddling lying down. He enjoys the weight, the shape of your body, and being able to cradle you.
Because of this, he doesn’t ask if you’d rather lie down; he stays put, ensuring your rest is protected.
It’s only when you’re fully asleep and start shifting to find a more comfortable position that he decides to carry you to bed, staying there with you afterward.
Vander:
I’ll be honest, would.
The underground city is freezing due to the lack of light that filters in, all the glass and steel radiating cold from the outside. That’s why there’s no place more comfortable than this man’s laps.
You usually do it when the bar is still closed, and only a few close friends are inside. When you know he isn’t on the defensive and you won’t slow him down.
He laughs, keeping one hand on your back to support you, and points out to anyone around him that it’s good for you to get a little rest.
If you stay asleep even after the bar opens, he’ll grab a chair and sit it beside him so he can take care of the larger tasks first and then return to you in his lap.
But if it’s the weekend, when things can easily heat up, he’ll delay opening just to get you to bed, give you a kiss, and apologize for leaving you alone.
Silco:
Can we normalize this man as a piece of furniture?
It’s not even about being tired or wanting attention, sometimes it’s just the comfort the situation itself provides.
The way the swivel chair rocks, the vinyl on the record player, the intense, greenish light pouring through the window, and enjoying his delicate fingers in your hair while the entire city stretches out beneath you.
He doesn’t ask why you do it, nor if you want to move. He assumes that if you wanted something different, you would simply ask, so he continues to give you those small attentions endlessly.
He keeps you on the side of his good eye, so he doesn’t have to turn his head to check on you, but can discreetly notice if your expression changes or if you fall asleep.
These are the moments when Sevika knows that no one is supposed to enter his office, so you can have a bit of peace.
Jinx:
She’s always busy, always active, always too loud. Sitting in her lap sometimes seems almost like a necessity to keep her still and focused on just one thing.
“Awwww, my little bug is sleepy?”
She hums while holding you in her arms, one hand still trying to get her projects done.
If too much time passes, she’ll bend her knees and push herself forward, making the swivel chair move in the direction she wants so she can stay occupied while talking to you about whatever crosses her mind.
If she feels your breathing change, that you’re falling asleep, she suddenly freezes, as if to let you rest.
She pulls you closer, caresses you, kisses your temples, and carries you to her little couch.
Vi:
If manhandling were a woman
When you sit on her lap, she treats you like you’re a cat: fine. It will end there.
Does she need to pee? No, she doesn’t anymore.
She can’t disturb you, or you might get up and leave.
But when it starts to become a constant, she’ll cover your back and simply hold you while she does what she needs to do.
If you complain, she’ll kiss you, apologizing and reassuring you that you’ll be back on the sofa soon, asking you to hang on.
She enjoys that closeness, your breath on her skin, the trust in that action.
The moment she sits back down or rests, she’ll shower you with cuddles, even if you’re asleep or pretending to be.
Caytlin:
She’s the one to ask if you want to sit in her lap, worried that she’s neglecting you.
She keeps you with her, even if you’re asleep, supporting you to make sure you don’t hurt yourself or lose your balance.
Her biggest fear is not being able to express how much she cares for you, how happy she is to have you there.
The quickest way she knows to do that is through physical contact—the reassuring, warm kind.
“How was your day?” she asks, giving you space to talk and feel seen. She doesn’t want the things she has to do to take away from you, from the two of you.
If she still feels like she’s ignoring you, she’ll ask you to sit on the couch with her to watch a movie, or maybe in bed, cuddled up, just being close.
Mel:
I recognize mommy issues when I see them, and so does she. You’ve been caught.
She welcomes you into her arms almost playfully, gently caressing your hands and arms, speaking softly with her head turned toward you.
She knows it’s the easiest way for you to ask for attention, and she simply accepts it, letting you rest either in her arms or with your head on her lap.
She talks to you about her day, her plans, her worries as if telling you a lullaby, letting you rest on her concerns, including you in her mind so that you don’t feel like a burden.
If you fall asleep, she rests her chin on your shoulder and closes her eyes as well, enjoying a few minutes of peace, trying to sync your breathing together.
Sevika:
You live on the lap of this woman.
When she adjusts her arm, when you eat something on the couch, even at the bar while she plays cards or drinks, you’re always there.
The safest place in the underground city is on the massive legs of a woman with a mechanical arm, and that’s a fact.
Her initial fear, especially in public, was that someone might associate you with her and harm you.
But over time, it’s almost become a flex -you, pretty thing, are hers,
Every now and then, she checks to see if you’re okay, if you want to go to bed, if you’re comfortable, and with her healthy hand, she caresses your cheek while doing so.
At home, she always makes sure to cover you, to keep you close.
She doesn’t even go to bed unless you ask, enjoying the feeling of your body against hers.

Dating Loser!Vi Headcannons
A lot of this was thought about with the homie @ficsonpost-its, kind of a way for us to cope with the ending of Arcane 🙃
And I never cared enough to follow the plot so this is a college!au where everyone is alive and (maybe) happy
Warnings: Vi herself is kind of a warning, masc4masc couple if it matters, maybe suggestive at some parts, some parts with Jayce are inspired by “the blind leading the blind” stuff one tictok
She met you through Ekko. You were his (adoptive, biological wtfever shut up) sister and safe to say, she was borderline obsessed with you. But, she didn’t know how to approach you at first. Her very obvious crush on you was noticed by both Ekko and Jinx so they took it upon themselves to help her out.
To get some extra money, she works at her dad’s bar, The Last Drop. She’s a bouncer and whenever she’s around, people tend to behave themselves. It was a normal night until Vi saw you chatting up a storm to Vander and she immediately started to panic. But it all seemed to go on well, seeing how the night ended with your number in her pocket.
Vi can count all of the friends she has on one hand, one of them being her sister. So safe to say, when she admitted that she somehow has a girlfriend, none of them believed her. Jayce even called her a liar until she pulled up pictures.
Vi was out one day when she bought you both matching boxers. She cherishes them like it’s her most prized possession, next to you and the brass knuckles Vander gave her.
“Vi, what are these?”
”Batman boxers!”
You couldn’t help but match her wide smile. “Why Batman?”
”Cause he’s a fucking goat.”
Vi will full on body slam or suplex you, carefully, on the nearest couch or bed whenever you seem to be minding your business. The first few times caught you by surprise but now, it’s almost a daily occurrence that you look forward to.
Vi’s fashion taste is something you admire; from the ripped jeans to the cropped muscle shirts that she cut herself, you have nothing but good things to say about her clothes. However, in the comfort of her own home, she never wears a shirt. It’s even rare to find her in her sports bra while she’s lounging around.
“It’s nine in the morning, why are your tits out?”
”Are you complaining?”
”Of course not. But Jayce is coming over so he might.”
You can hear her groaning the entire time but she’ll do it.
Speaking of Jayce, it’s never a good idea to leave them alone for too long or else something would happen. Separately, they’re geniuses but together…those brain cells are nonexistent.
“Vi, it’s been fourteen hours, where the hell were you?”
”Oh, I was getting that tattoo I told you about.”
”For fourteen hours?”
”Yeah, Jayce was with me and he thought it was a good idea to get it done in one sitting. He even got something!”
Needless to say, both you, Mel and Viktor always expect something to go wrong with those two. (Have we lost the art of a good poly-ship? Jayce has two hand so just kiss and shut up)
Do not EVER call her Violet, she’ll think you are upset with her and will probably tweak out and cry. The only acceptable names to call her are Vi, obviously, or ‘Pretty Girl.’ You were only a few months into your relationship when you called her that, she spent like 5 minutes in straight silence not really sure how to react; something you did notice was that her face was as red as her hair.
Vi will also lay her complete body weight on top of you when you lay down; it's one of her favorite ways of cuddling. (For my gamer!readers) Especially if you’re playing a game, you will wrap your arms around her with the controller laying on her back. The both of you will stay there for hours.
“Motherfucker.”
”Die again, cupcake?” She muttered into your chest.
“Radahn is ass.”
A little something extra for my black!readers that love Vi 🫶🏾
Say you can’t find your bonnet. You looked all up and down the apartment, pretty much flipping it over but it was still nowhere to be found. And seeing how it was your favorite, you were a little upset that it was gone. Until Vi came out of the bathroom, said bonnet on her head, giving you a small smile, completely unaware of what she was doing.

Hello! May I request a headcanon of Ekko with a woman who is essentially an introverted foreigner who ended up joining the Fireflies, and Ekko falls in love with her?
Ekko falling in love with an introverted foreigner woman who joined the Fireflies hcs
The arrival of a foreigner in Zaun doesn’t go unnoticed
You’re quiet, reserved, and keep to yourself, making you stand out among the boisterous inhabitants of the city
Your skills and knowledge, honed in your homeland, quickly earn you a place within their ranks
Ekko, being a leader figure among the Fireflies, decided to help you get acclimated
Your initial interactions are formal and brief
Ekko tried to engage you in conversation, but your nature makes it difficult for you to open up
Of course Ekko respects your boundaries
As you go on missions together, Ekko starts to see glimpses of your true self which earning his respect
You, in turn, begin to see Ekko as more than just a leader as he slowly becomes a friend
Ekko makes an effort to reach out to you in small ways
He shares stories about Zaun, introduces you to his friends, and shows you around the city (when possible)
Ekko hopes that this makes you lower your guard a bit
Your quiet conversations become a regular occurrence
You both talk about your pasts, your hopes for the future, and the struggles you face at the moment
You find yourself drawn to Ekko’s optimism and resilience, qualities that contrast sharply with your own nature
An unspoken understanding begins to form between you two
You don’t need to talk constantly to feel connected; your each other’s presence alone brings comfort
He appreciates your silent support
Ekko becomes increasingly protective of you which doesn’t go unnoticed by others
He’s always looking out for you during missions, making sure you’re safe
You notice his concern and starts to rely on him more, feeling a sense of security you haven’t felt in a long time
There are moments of vulnerability when you open up about your past and the reasons you left your homeland
Ekko listens without judgment, offering his support and understanding trying to heal your old wounds
Ekko starts to realize his feelings for you
It’s not just admiration or friendship; it’s something deeper
He finds himself thinking about you constantly, wanting to be near you and make you smile
You begin to notice Ekko’s subtle signals
The way his eyes linger on you, the gentle touches, and the genuine concern he shows
Slowly your own feelings start to mirror his
One night, after a particularly intense mission, Ekko finds the courage to confess his feelings
You both are sitting in a quiet corner of the Fireflies’ base, when he tells you how much you means to him and how he’s fallen in love with you
You might be kidna taken aback at first, but you reciprocates his feelings
It’s a tender, heartfelt moment that solidifies your bond
You both navigate your new relationship with care and respect
Ekko understands your need for space and quiet, while you make an effort to engage more with him and the Fireflies
(No preassure)
You guys find a balance that works for both of you
You share your dreams for the future with each other, both personal and for Zaun
Trust becomes the foundation of your relationship
You learn to rely on Ekko, knowing he’ll always have your back and Ekko does the same
Your relationship becomes a support system for both of you
You face the dangers and uncertainties of life in Zaun together, drawing strength from each other
The Fireflies notice the change in the pair, seeing how your bond has made the lovers even more formidable
You balance your duties to the Fireflies with your personal relationship
It’s not always easy, especially for Ekko, but he makes it work
You become each other’s anchor, a constant in a world that’s often chaotic and unpredictable
Your love story becomes a beacon of hope for others in Zaun
It’s a reminder that even in the darkest times, love and connection can flourish
(That sounds cheesy, my bad)
As your relationship deepens, new threats emerge
Rival factions, internal strife within the Fireflies, and the ever-present danger of Zaun’s underbelly put your bond to the test
Both Ekko and the woman make sacrifices for each other
Ekko takes on additional risks to protect you, while you step out of your comfort zone to protect and support him
There are moments of doubt and fear
The pressures of the environment sometimes strain your relationship, but you always find your way back to each other
Despite the challenges, you find joy in the little things like:
Quiet moments together, shared laughter, and the simple pleasure of each other’s company
Your relationship has a positive impact on the Fireflies
You start discussing long-term goals, both for yourselves and for Zaun
Your vision for the future includes not just survival, but thriving and building a community where others can find the same sense of belonging you’ve found in each other
As time goes on, you start to talk about creating a future beyond the Fireflies
A life where you can build a home, have a family, and live in peace
Your bond becomes unbreakable
You become a shining example of what it means to fight for love and to build a life together, even in the most difficult circumstances
(That was also cheesy and I apologize for that, but I’m not removing it)

POV: Telling Ekko you’re pregnant
Im gonna be posting a bunch of lil Ekko oneshots on Wattpad, I feel like this man doesn’t get enough stories and it irkssss me sm. So if you’d like to read more the link is at the end!!
I'm not all that good at writing, I’m also doing this for fun so please go easy on me. I'm hoping to get better as I keep writing. But I still hope you guys enjoy it!! :3
.
The Firelight base, hidden among the green thick fogs of Zaun, was Ekko's haven. A quiet—peaceful place from the chaos of the Undercity.
His little room at the top of his tree was where he could think, when the weight of leadership felt too heavy—he could sit, take a moment for himself for a little bit.
His room was filled with unfinished projects, blueprints and tools scattered all across his workbench, The lanterns and candles cast a soft, wam glow over the space, giving it a calming, almost ethereal atmosphere.
But tonight...tonight felt different.
Tonight, there was something heavy in the air.
Y/N sat on the edge of his bed, She had something she needed to say. Something that had been on her mind for days now. But the thought of how Ekko would react to it made her heart race like hell.
Ekko was seated at his workbench, tinkering with a device, his brows furrowed in concentration. When Y/N finally spoke, her voice barely rose above a whisper, it stopped him cold.
"Ekko," she began, and when he turned, the look on his face shifted. His precious brown eyes locked onto hers, and for a moment, she saw his guard come down, just a fraction.
He stood, his usual cool confidence flickering for just an instant. "What's up doll? You've been acting different... is something wrong?"
Y/N hesitated.
Fuck This wasn't easy.
How do you tell someone you love so much that their life is about to change forever?
But she couldn't keep it to herself anymore.
"Ekko...I'm pregnant."
Ekko froze. His expression was unreadable for a second before his eyes narrowed, brows drawing together. His mind that was always fast, was now working overtime, processing what the hell she just said.
For a second, the silence felt like a punch to the gut, the weight of his thoughts pressing down on both of them.
"You're... pregnant?" He repeated, his voice low, almost to himself, like he wasn't sure whether to believe it or not. He just stood there, trying to find something to say but was unable to form the words just yet.
Y/N nodded, swallowing hard.
"I found out a little while ago. I just didn't know how to tell you. Hell, I didn't even know how to process it myself."
Ekko rubbed his forehead, He was silent for a moment longer before he spoke, his voice rougher than usual, but it was tinged with concern. "I... I'm not sure what to do with this Y/N...Fuck...I didn't even expect to see this coming.."
Y/N's heart clenched at the uncertainty in his voice. She had been afraid of this, of him not knowing how to react.
she took a deep breath, trying to keep her voice steady. "I didn't expect this either. I'm scared too Ekko. But I don't—I can't to do this alone. I need you."
Ekko didn't move right away, his gaze still locked on her. His hands fidgeted with a loose gear on the workbench, his mind was clearly in a battle between his responsibilities and the unexpected future baby unfolding in front of him.
"Damn..." he muttered, shaking his head, his usual confident demeanor cracked for a moment.
"...I—I don't even know what kind of father I'd be. I barely have time to think straight with everything that's going on lately." His voice softened, but it was raw, honest—Ekko was always the kind of person who wasn't afraid to show what he was feeling around me, even if it made him vulnerable.
"But I'm not gonna back down from it..." "Not from you."
Y/N felt the tension in her chest start to melt away as he spoke.
She stepped closer, her eyes softening, the relief obvious in her expression.
Ekko's eyes softened as he took a step closer, his hand gently cupping her face. "Whatever happens next, we'll figure it out..Like we always do." His smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
He leaned in a little closer, their foreheads brushing together. He seemed to take a moment to just soak it all in, before speaking again, softer this time.
"I love you Y/N."
Y/N's smile softened, feeling her heart swell. But before she could say anything, Ekko's voice had that hint of excitement. "And I'm gonna love our baby too. I'll teach 'em alll the important stuff."
He leaned back a bit, his eyes sparkling with affection. "Can you imagine? A little mini us running around just causing all the trouble, and I'm the one trying to keep it all together while you just—well, you'll be egging 'em on won't you?"
Y/N raised an eyebrow, her lips curling into a playful grin. "Oh absolutely! That little ball of happiness is gonna have all of your genius and a whole lot of my sass... We'll have a little firecracker on our hands."
Ekko's grin grew, the playful energy between them settling into something warm and steady. "They'll be perfect." He stepped in, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead, then slowly brushing his lips against hers in a gentle, lingering kiss.
When they pulled away, he smiled, his hand gently resting on her cheek. "And if they're half as amazing as you, we'll be just fine."
Y/N's heart fluttered, her smile growing as she met his eyes. "I love you Ekko."
"I love you too Y/N"

For you Ekko reqs, may I suggest R and Ekko hurt/comfort where Ekko slowly confides with R about what happened at the end of show (like probably a year or 2 of Ekko trying to process everything) and how he sometimes wished he stayed at the alt timeline? 🥲 Just him processing his grief of everything while R comforts him. Mans deserves better
-😅
Ahhhhh writing this made me tear up ngl 🥲 I hope you like it! ❤️❤️❤️

“Ekko?” Your call is carried by the cool autumn wind, breeze fluttering your lashes as you stare at his back. You see him shrink in his seat, face hidden on the crook of his elbow. Walking closer, footsteps clanging against the metal balcony where you always find him on the same day it all happened. “You'll catch a cold up here.”
Piltover shines in front of you, warm light flickering off by the windows as people settle in for the night. But the glimmering fire paper still flies above the city, its light fading as it burns out in the breeze. It's the anniversary of that day, the day Piltover and Zaun saw war right on their doorstep.
Your arm aches, a phantom pain ebbing in and out when your mind goes back to that exact day where the sky was covered in searing smoke, and the streets splashed in warm crimson. Thumb brushing along your scar, it's a mark, a reminder of what was lost that day.
After a minute, Ekko sighs, still unmoving on his spot. “I'm not leaving.”
“I'm not trying to make you leave.” You fetch the blanket that was folded and draped over your shoulder. “I have a blanket for you. If you want it.”
He turns his head slowly over to you, mind playing tricks on him as he sees the flash of you bleeding and yelling for him. Eyes bloodshot, skin clammy and marred with blood. As fast as it came, he blinked and it's gone. Vision returning to the present, the present that wouldn't be possible if not for his sacrifice.
“Don't just gawk at me, bossman,” you smile gently at him, the blanket now unfurled in front of you, ready to drape it over his trembling form. “Do you want it or not?”
The corner of his lip curls up in a small smile, his eyes are tired, weighed down by the world. “Come sit down?”
He has never asked you to join him. You always left him alone up here whenever the anniversary comes around, thinking that's what he needed. But you always waited patiently just outside the door, sitting down on the cold steps while you let grief wash over you like the tides. Until it's time to pick yourself up again at the sound of the door opening. His hand helping you up wordlessly, grief holding the two of you in place, mourning together silently. When morning comes, everything seems to go back in place. The sun still shines, the world still breathes. But it lingers, that grief that has etched itself in your bones, sorrow that lives in his chest, weighing him down but never letting it fester and spread.
You two continue to fight, to improve the very place where blood has been spilled. Carry their memories, their names and their voices until the end. Lest their sacrifices would be in vain. Ekko's sacrifice would be in vain. He deserves better, to not bear the heaviness left in his soul.
“Are you just gonna gawk there or will you take a seat?” He uses your own words against you.
“Can't help it,” you say, heart pounding in your chest as you take a seat right next to him. Giving him enough space, but close enough to see his heavy eyes marred by unshed tears. “You look good under the moonlight.” You joke in an attempt to make him smile.
Ekko manages to chuckle softly, letting you drape the fluffy blanket around his shoulders. Your warm fingers grazing along his cool skin, sending goosebumps on his lean arms.
“Do you find my frown charming?”
You smile kindly, knuckles brushing down his goosebumps. “It’s the tear stained cheeks that gets me everytime.”
He scoffs with a small smile, attention turned towards the Piltover sky. The smell of burnt paper and violets linger in the air, frown deepening at his racing thoughts.
“Will you stay?”
With trepidation, you take his hand in yours, giving him enough time to pull away. He doesn't, instead, he weaves his fingers around yours. His grip is weak, but you can feel how much he needed it by how his eyes stare at your joined hands.
“Of course, whatever you need, Ekko.” You'll stay forever if he asks.
He nods, eyes staying downturned. “I wanted to stay at that place.” Letting out a shaky breath, he closes his eyes, trying to remember what they look like in his mind's eye. Faces that he once thought that he'll never see again. Faces that he had to say goodbye to. “But that would be selfish. I couldn't—” you squeeze his hand. “—I couldn't just leave this place and let it burn.”
The last two years have melded together in your head. All those months of waiting for him at the edge of the hideout, never losing hope, not even when they declared him dead. And then the war came, and you two didn't have the time to reunite, until it ended with you laying half dead on the streets of Piltover. Waking up to him holding your hand in a grip, wishing for you to open your eyes. And you did. A year later, he comes to you, angry and furious, wanting to let it all out. You still remember the day he told you exactly what happened when he disappeared for months like it was yesterday.
He recalls it all like it was a dream, a dream that was destined to be forgotten once he awakes. He didn't want to wake up, not when everything he always dreamed of was there. He gripped onto you tightly that day, held onto you until the sun rose. Nothing was left unsaid, his story left a hole in your heart, wishing that you've seen it for yourself. But you're afraid that you wouldn't be strong enough to leave, as strong as him who made a difficult choice to leave.
He has experienced unthinkable loss, a longing you've never felt. You don't have the exact words to comfort him, to soothe his want, so you move closer to him, fixing where the blanket has fallen and wrapping it over his body like a warm cocoon. You could only hope that it's enough, but you know it will never be enough.
Ekko tucks his head on your shoulder, hand finding its way over to your raised scar. His thumb traces along the skin, feeling your warmth and in turn comforting you. He knows the pain you're in too, he witnessed it, all the nights you've hid away only to come back with red eyes and grief etched on your face.
“I couldn't leave you and Zaun behind.” He mumbles against your shoulder.
Your heart wretches out of your chest. “It wouldn't be selfish.” You say, whispering it into the air around you. “I think— I would've done what you wanted to do. I wouldn't be strong enough to leave, but you did.” He leans away, eyes soft and shining under the moonlight as he meets with your eyes. “You're brave, Ekko. You might not want everyone to know what you had to do to save everyone, but I know. And I'm forever grateful for what you did. For what you have sacrificed so we could live. I'll remember it until I can't, even then, I'll try not to forget.” Cupping his jaw, you watch as a tear slides down. You wipe it away gingerly, smiling at him as he leans against your warmth, eyes closing, shoulders slumping with every word you utter. “You did well, Ekko.”
He moves forward, leaning his forehead against your own, affection radiating off him. “Thank you.”
“We'll be okay. We have time.”
“I know.” He has seen it, one day that dream will come true.
With a tender squeeze, his hand takes the other edge of the blanket, pulling and covering you with its warmth right next to him.

TW: Minor descriptions of injuries
Arcane Series Finale spoilers
In the aftermath of the Battle of Piltover, you find yourself desperately clinging to a toy monkey head with nails hammered into it.
If you were to ask the regular citizens of Piltover and Zaun, the regular duration of a search and rescue mission is around seven days. While this was, in a way, correct, it would only reach that many days if there was enough proof that the missing person was alive.
Standard operating procedure only allows a max of fifty-one hours.
You've been searching for nine days, fifteen hours, and twenty-seven minutes.
We don't have the resources right now, there's been too many casualties.
Alone.
There’re too many places to look through. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have put the thought in your head-
Through every single cooling duct leading into the Hex Gate.
-the fuse assembly could've survived by other means.
"I have to try, Cait." You say as you put on your pack, loaded with first aid supplies and recovery equipment. Caitlyn moves to grab your arm. Her grip firm, but she's not holding you in any way that could actually prevent you from leaving. You still stop and wait for her to finish what she wants to say.
"It's been over a week. You've barely slept the entire time, and I can't keep changing the subject when Vi asks me where you've gone." She tugs at your arm lightly, willing you to sit down on a nearby chair.
It had been ten days since the end of the battle. Ten days since Piltover and Zaun almost met their demise. Ten days since so many lives were lost; all for power.
Vi was -is- a mess. She could barely pull herself up from the ledge you fished her out of back at the top of the tower. Dread had already begun to creep its way across your body as you made your way up to where Jinx and Ekko's balloon had crashed. The feeling only got worse as you climbed higher, seeing no signs of its three occupants. You started running faster up steps, climbing ladders with speed you never thought possible for you. For a moment the dread had ceded, your adrenaline taking over. But then there was the explosion. And then... And then eventually you heard Vi's cries.
Your body stiffens as you shut your eyes, willing the memory away. "You're gonna have to cover for me a bit longer, Cait." You say as you softly pry your arm free of her grasp. "With how loud that explosion was, there's no way the assembly could've just survived."
"If it was anyone else, maybe I would've stopped searching already. But you and I both know this isn't just anyone else, no matter which side you're on." Caitlyn looks at you for a few moments, you know well enough that she's already wavering in her previous attempt to dissuade you.
"You wouldn't have mentioned it at all if you didn't think-"
"I know, I know." She finally says. "I wouldn't have given you the schematics for the structure either."
She sighs, an all too familiar indicator that you've won. "Just... Don't push yourself too much. I know I'm the one that gave you hope that she survived, but at some point..." She trails off. You know she wants to say that she doesn't want you to have your hopes crushed, or to put yourself in unnecessary danger. Especially since the inner ducts have been unstable since the explosion.
"I promise, I'll be careful, Cait. You know me." You shrug and smile at her, hoping that the nonchalant display is enough to convince her that you aren't fatigued out of your mind.
The look on her face says she doesn't buy it. But she says nothing about her doubts, instead nodding your way. "Be careful, I'm holding you to that."
"I will."
"Fucking air vents." You curse as you drop your pack by the wall of the duct. The thump it makes echoing around the cavernous tunnel. You've been walking uphill to get back up to the entrance, but the strain from working non-stop for over a week, the sleep deprivation, and the mental exhaustion was bound to catch up. Maybe Cait was onto something with the whole resting thing.
You let out a huff at the thought. You didn't have time to rest, what if Jinx was somewhere hurt, with no one around- she'd find a way to pull herself out of here and escape-- or what if she was trapped somewhere -this is my second sweep of the vents and all the obstructed entrances have been cleared- You lean against the tunnel wall before slumping gingerly to the ground. Your ankle hadn't fully healed from the battle, and you still had bandages all over your midsection from injuries you sustained.
You take a few steadying breaths before pulling out a map of the vents, marking the sections you've done your sweep of. Your vision swims for a moment, and it's enough for you to shut the map and lean you head against the wall. You close your eyes and steady your breathing, willing yourself to hold it together.
You're no use to me dead. She would say right about now. I'm still alive and you still say I'm useless. You'd reply.
"Yeah, but I say it lovingly." She harks back from her chair, tinkering away at her robot bug thing that she and Isha were using for their little fight club. You turn from the pin board you were making- places in Zaun where new checkpoints had been placed. You drop the purple pen you were using-Isha had stolen the red marker you usually use-- to write and make your way over to Jinx.
"Lovingly?" You ask as you turn her chair around, a grin plastered on your face. She rolls her eyes, but her own smile betrays her attempt at brushing you off. "Don't think too hard about it, you might hurt yourself."
"Looks like you've been the one thinking about it." She scoffs at you, turning her chair back to face her work station. Though she doesn't turn fast enough for the pink dusting her cheeks to escape your notice. "I said don't think too much about it."
"Hey." You say softly, turning her chair around again and pulling up a chair for yourself so you were eye-level. She's pouting, so you know you're not in trouble. "I'm sorry for teasing." You take her left hand and place a kiss on her knuckles. She makes a face.
"Ew, don't kiss my hands, they're covered in grease."
"When are they not covered in grease?"
"Didn't you just apologize for teasing?"
"I'm sorry for teasing, again."
"You're lucky-" She clamps her mouth shut. You bite the inside of your cheek to stop yourself from grinning again. The last thing you want is for her to close herself off. You know she's being careful. For someone known to be completely reckless at spontaneous times, she could be just as calculating and reserved. She's slipped a few times already, not explicitly saying I love you, but accidentally implying it or using some variation of the word during a casual conversation. You're no better, but so far, you've been able to avoid slipping.
Maybe you both thought it was too soon to say. Three or four months of you acknowledging that there was something between the two of you might be too soon, but there was a revolution going on, and revolutions are rarely peaceful and without casualties. Who knows what might happen in a few months, weeks, days, or hours. But you don't know what the next few weeks have in store for you.
"I know I'm lucky." You say. Hoping that the implication of, I know I'm lucky you love me, is enough.
But it wasn't, and now I'm here.
You jolt forward, blinking a few times to clear your blurry vision. Had you dozed off? For how long?
You sigh and rub your face with your hands. You do need rest, just for a little bit, then you'd get back to searching for her. You're no use to her dead, after all.
The walk back to your apartment is agonizing. The second you decided that it was time to take a break, your whole body decided that it was the best time for you to feel your exhaustion in its entirety. Your pack was suddenly heavier, your ankle decided to start swelling, and the wound on your side thought it was the perfect time to start bleeding again. Despite your body's attempt to suddenly render you immobile, you're able to meander back to your door after a horrible confrontation with five flights of stairs. Damn that faulty elevator.
You decide that having a view from your balcony isn't really all that worth it as you jam your keys into the lock and make your way inside. You stop dead in your tracks as soon as you pass through the door. The lock never clicked open.
You draw your pistol quietly, and scan the open living room and kitchen area of your home. Deeming the areas clear, you start making your way towards the hallway leading to your bedroom, pistol aimed and ready. Who on the Runeterra's green earth would be targeting you? Leftover Noxians? No. Turn coats like Maddie? Unlikely. Someone from the Undercity with a grudge? Unless they figured out who I am, I doubt it.
You hear a creaking sound from a door to your left, and you quickly kick it open and aim your pistol at the intruder.
"Jeez, you'd think a girl would get a warmer welcome after coming back from the dead." The intruder says, leaning back on a chair and idly scanning a vinyl.
You stare, dumbfounded. A part of you fully believing you've started hallucinating from the exhaustion, or the blood loss, you're not sure anymore. Your intruder, however, seemed to find your predicament funny.
"What, got nothing to say to me?" She asks. She finally turns to look at you, but the grin she puts on quickly falters when she notices the blood from your reopened wound seeping through your uniform. And then she's in front of you, one hand cupping the side of your face, the other hovering just above spots of blood on your shirt.
She asks if you're okay, but you're not sure. You still haven't confirmed whether on not you're hallucinating. So you do the only logical thing in the world and wrap your arms around her.
"Jinx?" Your voice cracks as you utter her name, and you wait. Wait for her to disappear, for your tired mind to catch up and be able to distinguish what is real and what isn't, because a part of you was only ever really using the tunnel search as a coping mechanism and that-
"I'm here, it's okay." She says as she wraps her arms around you and returns your embrace. If it were any other day, it would be you comforting her, offering her words of reassurance, support, affirmation. But this isn't any other day. Because you thought for the last ten days, twenty-three hours, and eight minutes, that she had died in an explosion.
But she didn't, and now you're sure that she's alive, that she's here, and alive, and breathing and-
"I love you." The words spill out of your mouth before you can think of anything else. How could you think of anything else? When those words, you realize now, have been long overdue.
She laughs. You realize how much you've missed hearing her laugh once your tears start falling. "I'm sorry." You say. "I thought, you died."
You stop yourself from hissing as her hug tightens and pain shoots up from your side. You could stomach the discomfort for this. You wouldn't let her go for anything, not again. "I'm sorry I took so long, bubs."-Your heart soars at the nickname- "There were a few... loose ends I had to take care of before coming to find you." She wipes away your tears as she says this, her hands carefully brushing your hair out of your face.
"It's okay, nothing else matters now." Just you you wanted to add, but refrain from speaking any further. You pull away just far enough to look at her, still not letting her go. It's her, alright. Her hair is different, and she doesn't have her pants that that one enforcer described as a half-eaten circus tent, but it's her.
"You're not upset?" She has the audacity to ask.
"I spent the last week and a half thinking you were dead, upset is the last thing I'm feeling.” A pause. “Wait no, actually, I spent nine days wandering around the cooling vents to look for greasy ass hand prints on walls."
"Hey."
"And I couldn't find any so you must've washed your hands for once-"
"Okay, smart ass, I get it." She says, rolling her eyes before pulling you in for a kiss. Suddenly all the exhaustion and pain you're feeling is gone, and your mind blanks. The only thought running through your head is Jinx and I missed you, and I love you, I love you, I love you as you pull her closer to you.
"Easy, tiger." She puts a hand on your chest to stop you from chasing after her when she pulls away. You let out a huff. She laughs. "You're bleeding, I need to take a look at that first."
"Since when has me being injured ever stopped you?"
She grins at you. "Being away from me that long has you down bad, huh?" You grumble something about her being unappreciative, and she responds by pulling your face down and placing a kiss on your nose.
"You're lucky I love you."

Spongebob me boy😃 we gonna make people cry with this one💪
--
I was busy grieving and loving.
- a story about the events after you lose jayce and viktor when they sacrifice themselves during the war. -
A/N: This will be heavily poetic and emotional and may contain sensitive topics.
----
It's never been so cold.
So quiet.
A month after the war against viktor's army, piltover and zaun were finally united as one. You're not sure how long it's been since you returned to the university, nor are you sure how long it's been since you've been outside.
The council grows weary of their lives and direction without Jayce, and when they announce that they are losing faith in their will to keep going, you can't help but feel the exact same. You don't know how to help them, and they haven't bothered to ask you to take a position as they know you'll decline immediately.
You have yet to feel the sun on your skin and the feeling emerald grass soft like hair beneath your trembling hands. Silence. That's all there is, is pure, cruel, and violent silence that threatens to crush you as it bloats like a cancerous growth on your soul.
What little will you have left to live like this. Pouring your heart and tears into things that will never be held by their owners again. Gadgets and mechanics that have only ever seen the hands of a nimble, sick man and his broad, cheerful partner. You can't bring yourself to try and work on them. You simply didn't have the guts to finish what they started.
Hours bleed into days, days bleed into weeks. Seconds pass by, and you are still not yet to feign even the smallest of smiles. Some moment after midnight, Caitlyn pays you a visit, but her face reminds you of jayce, and you simply can't bear to look at her.
Your greatest friend. Turnt into your worst nightmare.
When you're truly alone with yourself and are out in a drunken daze staring over the crystalline city that was piltover, you stare at the gun that sits on your desk. Like an evil presence that won't leave you alone, it haunts you. The look of it, the sheen on the metal.
You are forever haunted by the fact that the hextech crystals have been confiscated and destroyed. And so, you may never meet your lovers by such a violent ending.
You were not sure what you were anymore.
Hero?
Villain?
But what hero is designed tragic? And where would a villain be if not out cutting souls with his jagged nail?
Broken, painted fingernails dig crevices into wood when you think about where you're supposed to be, and why haven't you succeeded in completing what everyone asked of you long before the war? Why aren't you on your toes and falling to your hands and knees? Were you broken? No, but you were grieving, and a grieving woman owes no one nothing.
Blood has stained your hands for too long, and you can't wash it off. It never comes off. And you have so desperately tried. Your time has started to be spent in the undercity. Fighting against other fighters, ones who are tall and muscular, massive men and women made of metal and dosed with shimmer.
But it's not about their size. It's that they are fighting someone with nothing to lose. There is nothing more dangerous than a person who has nothing on the line. Vi tries to take care of you, telling you that fighting and getting yourself beat up will change nothing. She knew what it felt like to take your anger out on other people. That you feel like hurting or even killing another person will bring back the one you lost.
But it doesn't.
Sometimes, when you spend a few days staying with caitlyn and vi at the kiramman house, you struggle to accept that your reality may just be that you only have three people left that you love. Ekko, vi and caitlyn are always there for you to lend a helping hand.
And although you don't like how it feels to be near Caitlyn anymore, she has helped you heal the most out of everyone. Caitlyn takes you on walks to places you, Jayce, and viktor used to hang out. She takes you to a cafe in the town square and lets you order the very drink that the three of you shared on your first date.
A strawberry milkshake with whipped cream on the top. It's sweet, tooth achingly so. And the cream is sugary and snowy white. The bright colour of pink reminds you of when jayce would blow into the drink and make sugary sweet bubbles in the pink drink.
It would make you and viktor laugh, and you would put cream on each other's noses and laugh like the world wasn't in pieces.
The next place you go is with vi and ekko, it's to the garden where jayce and viktor first asked you to be their partner. It was a spring day, where floral scents were blowing in the breeze, and the cool air is contrasting the warm sun.
The scenery of bright orange flowers and light green leaves on trees, a pond with mossy rocks and lilypads decorated with a small pink blossom. It looks like when viktor's cane fell into the pond and without hesitation, both you and jayce jumped in to retrieve it.
When you two returned to the surface, sopping wet and covered with green algae. Viktor had no doubt in his mind that he would marry you both one day. Ekko tells you that it's okay if you want to cry and you do. You sit on a rock and feel its bumpy, grey surface under your hand. It's rough and warm from soaking in the sun.
Your tears drip onto the rock, and they, for a second, are there as a wet splatter. But they soon evaporate from the sun, and they are gone as quick as they were there. Watching as the tears disappear, it reminds you that this is a happy place. A place where your soul became intertwined with two scientists.
The last place you go is on your own. It's the room where viktor and jayce first started their research. It's still broken and condemned, and the blueprints on the board are torn and browned. Paper scattered on the floor are stuck from battering rains coming through the hole in the wall. You try to pick one up, and it tears, but it's clear the Ink has stopped bleeding and the writing is incomprehensible but you can tell it was jayce who wrote it by the small j that still barely visible on the corner.
Then again, jayce's writing was always incomprehensible. He didn't need water to make his write all different places. He would write up and down, put lower and capitals in the wrong spots. Viktor and you would find his papers and secretly edit them so that he didn't make a fool of himself infront of the council.
However, viktors was impeccable. He wrote like a poet for a poem about his wife. Always using curls and various big words, his q's always had his signature flick. That's how you knew viktor wrote something. Jayce often took his papers to study.
Looking around the room, you know, for the first time, it doesn't hurt to be here. You're alone in the room where your lovers once stood. Yes, it's painful. Yes, you want to burst through the thick concrete walls and scream while bloody. But for once, you just don't. You can't.
Instead you sit amongst rubble and dust and remember them just how they were.
Cheerful and unapologetically themselves.

okay I’m dropping some of my fable arcane au thoughts before the new episodes drop tomorrow even tho most of it is based on season 1 anyway—
so some basic taggings for you that I based the AU around:
1. Icarus as Jinx.
powder vs jinx is just the sherbert vs icarus name thing. toxic father. unhealthy relationship with sibling. a lil crazy and maybe evil. thinks that they are at fault for the things around them. lil bombs? nah- little SPLASH potions. hearing and seeing mylo and claggor? it’s Haley- it’s literally Haley—
2. Fable as Silco.
okay fable’s design WAS partially inspired by silco— they literally look the same— they’re both a man with two priorities: take over and make his own nation & care for child.
you know the ending scene of season 1? where they’re sitting at the table? THAT. With Jinx assuming that he’s gonna give her up to topside and him getting the first chance to talk and saying “her name is JINX!” i could write an essay on that for icarus. they’re so toxic and it’s so perfect. also that scene at the start of s2 ep2? YEAH THAT—
3. Centross as Ekko
This one is controversial and up to debate but i will die on this hill— SO THE S1 BRIDGE FIGHT. I am so willing to put aside any possible prison duo gay-ness in this AU for that rivalry/fight. they were friends!!! they were so good!! and now they wanna KILL EACH OTHER!! it’s great.
It’s also specifically thinking of Ekko’s tree home as solstice— older Ekko very much has the vibe of Violet specifically-
4. Arisanna as Sevika
I DONT KNOW WHY BUT IT MAKES SENSE TO ME. It’s specifically vexed Ari during the coworkers era but idk it just feels right— I look at her relationship with Silco and Jinx and go ‘hmmm this could be something’
[I will also say there is an argument here for swapping Centross and Ari tho— big tree city as Ari rebuilding the records goes hard, and angsty fighty toxic with jinx centross is also good— it’s like 50/50 for me]
5. Isla as Vander
LET ISLA BE A BADASS IN THIS AU. SHE DESERVES IT— something something raising vi and powder alone, something something the backstory with silco— there’s something there and it hits really hard in scenes where vi sees vander and helps her get back up— also I look at jinx and vander and I go “mmmm this is in fact how icarus sees Isla”
6. Rae as Vi
This was obvious given the above but LISTEN— in this ALTERNATE UNIVERSE OF EVENTS I think it would be fun- do I think that vi perfectly fits canon rae? no. But in this world it would KICK ASS. rae deserves to beat some people up— got kicked out of the overworld (zaun) by fable (silco) and had to go to the end (piltover) to get away from him?? rae end prince aus are already here so why not end rae also punching people huh??? also. gay people.
———
Okay— here’s where I need some help, thoughts, and opinions from you all…
1. Caitlyn.
POLYAMORY IS HARD TO TAG AND I DONT KNOW WHO FITS BEST?? For me, season 1 Caitlyn fits best as Caspian, but season 2 Caitlyn is more for Fenris— so I’m very stuck. yes absolutely give thoughts on this please—
2. Viktor as Aax (but how does that work)
Viktor absolutely should be Aax— mr. Scientist / lab experiment / turned religious figure vessel for god is CORRECT. But honestly the rest of Piltover gang is really hard with Rae as Vi— Jayce/Viktor/Mel is yelling at me to be the polycule but aGH— ya know??? very stuck on this so I instead look at the coworkers and go “mm good yes—”
Random other tags I think also make sense:
- Ulysses as that Telchin looking mf Stev— mans took out one lil medical device as his fish self and I said YUP
- The hexcore big orb thing underground as Quixis— big white glitch orb room make things go wack. couldn’t be easier than that.
———
Anyways that’s all— I’ve been rotating this in my mind for like a week and have had way too many thoughts about it thank you for your time—
#this was so long and I’m not even mad#it goes hard#season 1 specifically works so well#fable smp#arcane#fablesmp arcane au#icarus morningstar

Relationship(s) :: Jinx + Calypso(slightly yandere)!Fem!Reader (romantic)
Genre :: Fluff! And LOTS, LOTTTSSS of angst.
Format :: Oneshot / story
Warnings :: spoilers for season 2 of Arcane, even more trauma than last time!!, death mentions, READER IS NOT CALYPSO - takes her place essentially, Reader leans towards being more yandere (possessive and obsessive over Jinx), Jinx still has some remaining feelings for Ekko, but eventually gives up once again, heavily inspired by Jorge’s “Love In Paradise” + “Not Sorry For Loving You”, Reader is not toxic like Calypso in either of those songs! A bunch of time skips for a few, VERY LONG (I had to split this up into another part dude..), slight imitation to SH? Nothing explicitly stated
A/N :: AAA I actually am very surprised that “Stuck In Paradise” (be sure to read it first! None of this will really make any sense if you don’t read the first part of this!) kinda blew up! + all of the nice comments. TYSM GUYS FOR YOUR SUPPORT, GENUINELY. (I saw 1.9% of you say no btw 🤨). I hope this lives up to your expectations!! (W.C: 10.6k)
Ⅰ - Ⅱ - Ⅲ
The days and weeks slipped by in a surreal, dreamlike rhythm for Jinx and you, as if time itself had softened around the edges. Life had never felt this way before; unpredictable yet strangely comforting. You had long resigned yourself to solitude, believing you’d never see another human face again. The gods would probably be tired of seeing so many arrive on your island by pure coincidence and then immediately leaving once they had the chance to. They might as well have put another spell on your island so that nobody else would’ve been able to end up here.
Isolation had become your norm. Your reality.
And then Jinx arrived, shattering that reality you’d become so used to.
She was different. The others who had stumbled upon this forsaken island before her had always left the moment they had gotten the opportunity by the gods themselves, abandoning you to your endless exile. They were fleeting, shadows passing through your life and leaving you to rot.
With one of those sailors? You’d once gotten so attached. Too attached
And then they left you…
Everyone who ever appeared on this island - besides yourself - disappeared within a few weeks.
But Jinx?
She stayed.
For the first time in what felt like forever, you had someone who cared for you.
Even in the loneliness of this place, you weren’t truly alone anymore.
Over time, the two of you began to grow closer, spending hours together in quiet conversation or companionable silence. You were drawn to her sharp edges and fragile strength, and she—though unaccustomed to such things—found herself drawn to your unwavering care. Jinx wasn’t used to safety or protection. The idea of someone looking out for her was.. odd, almost unsettling.
But with you? She was beginning to understand what it felt like to be safe, to not have to look over her shoulder at every corner she turned due to the hostility of those living within the Undercity.
And for you, her presence was a revelation. You loved the sound of her voice, the unexpected humor that flickered through her words during such moments, and the way she slowly let down her guard. There was something healing in her company, something that made the world feel just a little less broken.
For now, the gods seemed to have turned their attention elsewhere, leaving you both in a rare state of peace. This was especially important to you, given the fact you would now be able to relax without their constant nagging or their interferences annoying you, you were free to simply be—to sit together by the fire, to explore the island, to share the small joys of this strange life you’d come to know.
You couldn’t say what the future held, but for now, you had each other.
And maybe, just maybe, that was enough.
.
"Pixie, you're doing it wrong," you said, trying to stifle your giggles as Jinx dangled a net precariously over the water.. and herself.
As for what you both were doing? Well, trying to catch fish! You wanted to create a meal with them eventually, but realized you had begun to run out. So, you told Jinx you were going to be out for a while and collect some fish - to which she ecstatically mentioned she wanted to come with you and try to catch some fish herself.
And how could you say no?
So, you let her tag along.
"What do you mean wrong??" Jinx shot back, mock offense dripping from her tone. She wobbled slightly, balancing on the rocks near the ocean. It's painfully clear that she never has done anything like this before in her life.
“You throw the net in, you pull it out. Boom, fish!”
You rolled your eyes, folding your arms across your chest
"Except the part where the fish actually stay in the net? You know, the most important part?”
"That's an unimportant detail,” Jinx muttered, grinning.
“Hey, wanna see something cool I can do?!” With a sudden movement, she swung the net dramatically, trying to make some sort of cool entertainment for you (something that seemed like an attempt at a handstand)!- ...only for the net to snag on a rock behind her. The momentum of the action sent her sprawling backwards into the shallow water with a loud splash, causing some of the sand and most of the rocks to become wet.
You immediately gasped at the sight, filled with worry as your first thoughts were filled with those of ‘is she okay!?’ ‘Is she hurt!?’.
Then, she sat up from where she’d fallen, net surrounding her within the water as she spat out a bunch of water - almost like that of a waterfall.
This made your concern dissolve into laughter.
“Oh, gods! Jinx, are you okay?" You managed to speak between fits of laughter, rushing closer to where the bluette fell.
Sitting up in the water, Jinx blinked, hair plastered to her face as she turned to look up at you.
"I'm just testing the water quality, obviously." She muttered, clearly salty about her failed trick. And you giggled a bit more about the entire ordeal before finally regaining your composure and clearing your throat.
You extended a hand to help her up, but it seems like Jinx had some other plans in mind for you!
With a mischievous grin, she yanked you into the water beside her.
"AA!! JINXX!" You squealed as the cold water soaked your clothes as you were splashed from the impact. You sat up, moving some hair out of your face before you quickly splashed Jinx in retaliation with a giggle, to which she happily returned with a splash towards you of her own.
By the end of the "fishing trip," you had caught exactly zero fish but had tears of laughter streaming down both of your faces.
You really should take her with you more to catch fish. Though, maybe focus more on the task?..
Nevertheless, you both eventually got out of the water, completely drenched from head to toe. But neither of you minded, given the stupid smiles plastered on both of your faces.
“I’ll let you take a bath first. I’ll take care of your clothes.” You gently patted the damp hair atop Jinx’s head, to which she playfully scoffed at.
You didn’t even notice before - but her hair had grown a bit from the first time you’d met her, her electric blue hair now reaching the base of her neck.
“You want me to cut your hair soon?” You inquired on the walk back with her, dragging the net alongside you as she nodded, grinning ever so slightly. And for the rest of the walk back to the palace, you both let the comforting silence linger between the two of you.
The two of you should do this more often..
After returning from the fishing trip and ensuring Jinx was settled for her bath, you take her wet clothes along with your own upon changing into a robe to clean them so they are clean for the next morning while grabbing some of your own clean clothes: a pair for her and a pair for you.
Returning back to the parlor, you begin to fold up a clean set of your own clothes for her to wear, and as you do so - the memories of the evening bring a smile to your face. Jinx’s laughter, her grin, and the way she seemed so carefree during the trip.. it’s rare to see her like that.
You set the clothes you had grabbed for her on a small table outside the bathroom with a light knock on the door before retreating to the kitchen to give her privacy.
By the time Jinx emerges and finds you returning to the parlor, her damp hair towel-dried and her face flushed from the warm bath, you’re preparing your own turn to clean yourself off. She’s wearing your clothes that you prepped outside (which is similar to that of what you gave her when she first arrived here): an oversized shirt and some loose, comfortable shorts, looking surprisingly at ease despite the borrowed attire.
“These are comfy,” she says, tugging at the fabric with a grin.
“Though. I’m still the one with style.” She proudly proclaims, hands on her hips.
You laugh at her comment before turning on your heel to look at her.
“Right, because soaking wet and covered in sand is the pinnacle of fashion?”
Jinx sticks her tongue out at you in response before speaking up again.
“Says the one who’ll be looking like a prune after a bath!” She flops dramatically onto the couch, draping herself across it.
“You better hurry up, Trinket. The night’s still young, and I’m not done hanging out with you yet.”
You giggle at her words for a moment before you slip away for your own bath, the warmth of the water washing away the chill of the evening and the lingering bits of sand stuck to your skin.
As you take your time, massaging the shampoo into your scalp, rubbing the conditioner in your hair - you find your thoughts drifting to Jinx—her laugh, her little playful banter with you, the way she seems so at home with you despite how chaotic she usually acts around you. It’s oddly refreshing to see her in such a state.
Eventually, you finish cleaning yourself, draining the water from your bath and drying yourself upon getting out of the tub. You take your time to brush out your damp hair, change into the fresh clothes you had gotten for yourself, making sure you look at least decent before placing your robe on a small rack for later use.
Then, you return to the parlor, just to find Jinx sprawled across the couch, idly tinkering with some small gadget she must’ve grabbed from her stash.
The moment she sees you she perks up, fixing her position on the couch.
“Took you long enough!” she teased you, patting the spot next to her.
“C’mon, sit down. I’m not gonna bite!”
“..much.” You roll your eyes at her comment but take the seat right next to her.
The quiet hum of the room settling over you both. The late-night air is cool, and the faint sounds of the trees slightly swaying from side to side to the gentle breeze is a comforting sound you’d long gotten accustomed to listening for.
And when you least expect it (given she’s never done anything like this before) — Jinx leans her head against your shoulder.
“So,” she says after a moment, her voice softer now.
“Today was fun. Stupid, messy, and fishless, but fun.”
You smile as a small giggle leaves your mouth, resting your head lightly against hers.
“Yeah, it was. We should do it again sometime.”
“Definitely,” she murmurs, her fingers idly tracing patterns on your arm. (You cannot deny the heat warming your cheeks, and the way your heart skips a beat).
“But next time, I’m catching something. I’m not letting those fish laugh at me again.” You chuckle softly at her little comment before closing your eyes as the two of you sit in comfortable silence.
The night stretches on, peaceful and easy, as if the world outside doesn’t exist for a little while.
Right now?
It’s just you and Jinx.
Though you’ll have to rest shortly, you can take some time to simply relax with the person you care most about.
Jinx was utterly spent.
The day had been physically demanding, given from the few inventions she had begun in the morning, to helping you clean around the palace, to the fishing trip outside.
But even with all of the exhaustion.. it was still strangely peaceful.
For a fleeting moment, she almost forgot about the chaos and pain of her past.
Almost.
When she returned to her room, she slumped onto the bed without much thought. Her eyelids felt heavy, but sleep was a complicated thing for her.
The echoes of past memories, the ones she’d never fully escaped, and even the simple fact that she barely ever even got sleep when she was working under Silco or him.
Those memories always lingered just on the edge of her consciousness. It was always hard to tell if they’d leave her be or drag her into nightmares.
Tonight, though, her body gave in quicker than her mind could protest. She drifted off in an awkward position: one arm dangling off the bed, legs tangled together, and her head tilted at an angle that would definitely give her a sore neck in the morning.
However.. you were there, no?
You slowly peeked into Jinx’s room.
You hesitated in the doorway, biting your bottom lip, debating with yourself whether you should go in. It’s invasive and incredibly weird— but.. you just need to make sure she’s safe. Your heart raced as it always did when you checked on Jinx, a habit you’ve grown.
You’ve gotten too attached to the bluette to allow anything horrible to happen to her, so you’ve made it a routine to check in on her every so often. Most times after she had fallen asleep. On those nights where she hadn’t rested still for whatever reason, you made your nighttime visits clear to her as you just worried about her well being.
Of course you never told her you did it every night, you simply told her it was because you could clearly hear her being restless - which thankfully convinced her.
You felt bad about lying to her.. but it felt weird enough that you were doing this.
Stepping inside, you made sure your footsteps were gentle and quiet so as to not alarm Jinx. The soft glow of moonlight spilling in from the window illuminating Jinx’s peaceful but slightly uncomfortable looking form.
Seeing the bluette sprawled out, you couldn’t help but let a soft chuckle escape past your lips.
How does she even manage to sleep like that?
Finally making your way over to the side of the bed, you knelt beside the bed, carefully lifting Jinx’s arm and tucking it back onto the mattress. You also adjusted Jinx’s legs so they were more relaxed and less twisted.
Of course—not in a violating or weird way, as uncouth as these actions might seem. You’re doing it to make her comfortable! Not to be a creep!
And finally, you slowly pulled the extra blanket over Jinx.
The entire time, your heart swelled with an overwhelming tenderness upon seeing the sight. Seeing the chaotic woman you’d grown so fond of finally relaxed and asleep.
Though once Jinx was tucked in, you couldn’t bring yourself to leave immediately.
So, you lingered at the edge of the bed, your eyes tracing the lines of Jinx’s face. The bluette looked so peaceful in sleep, so vulnerable and far removed from the sharp edges and guarded demeanor she carried when awake, especially when she’d first arrived here on Ogygia. She seemed so harsh, so on guard twenty-four seven!
But could you blame her? Of course not.
Nearly everyone who came before her was exactly the same.
Though just as you had begun thinking of a multitude of other things — there’s something that got you out of your thoughts: upon closer inspection, Jinx had a stray piece of hair covering her face in a rather.. odd way. It was almost going into her mouth.
…
You hesitated before leaning closer, your fingers trembling as you brushed the stray piece of hair behind her ear and away from Jinx’s face.
However, as you did so - the bluette shifted slightly.
Oh gods, was she going to wake up!? Was she going to see you here acting like some sort of stalker!?
Your breath hitched, adrenaline coursing through you until —
..she didn’t wake.
You let out a relieved sigh upon figuring out she was simply stirring within her sleep, your fingers lingering near Jinx’s cheek for just a moment longer than necessary.
Then before you finally decided to leave, you whispered softly, almost too quiet to be heard, even by yourself.
“I won’t let anything happen to you… I promise.”
Finally, you stood, your eyes lingering on Jinx one last time before you turned and slipped out of the room.
You closed the door silently behind you and pressed your back against it, exhaling deeply.
Your heart was pounding, but there was a strange, bittersweet comfort in this late night ritual of yours.
You knew you were becoming too attached to her. You knew this wasn’t entirely normal. But at the same time, you couldn’t stop yourself. Jinx had become her whole world—and you were terrified of losing that world of yours once again.
You wouldn’t let that happen.
..
"I’m telling you, this is gonna be the best sandcastle," Jinx declared, crouching down low to pat a misshapen lump of sand into shape once more, grinning with delight at her creation.
You, seated a few feet away and meticulously crafting spires and arches, glanced over at Jinx’s work. You had to bite your lip to keep yourself from laughing at the bluette. It’s not you being rude! It’s just… you cannot tell what she's even making anymore. She started off decent at the beginning of your little trip here - to which she suggested in the first place, and it now… kinda collapsed!
"Uh-huh. And what exactly is that supposed to be?" You inquired, raising an eyebrow before returning to look down at your sandcastle, fixing every little detail as meticulously as possible.
This is a lot more fun than you’d anticipated..
After all, you were once so focused on wallowing within your sorrow, never finding the time to genuinely appreciate any of the fun activities you could have here on the island. I mean, you were trapped here - why would you ever want to get comfortable with your surroundings if you were here unwillingly and hated every minute of it?
But with Jinx around?
It definitely makes it worth it..
"It’s a fortress, obviously!" Jinx replied indignantly at your inquiry as if it was some sort of offense, gesturing at the uneven walls.
“Gotta be ready for a sand invasion."
You shook your head before looking down at your own sandcastle, trying to hide your smile from the bluette.
"Well, I hope your fortress is sturdy, because my castle is going to outshine it in every way."
"Oh, it’s a competition now?" Jinx’s eyes sparkled with mischief as she grabbed a handful of wet sand and launched it in your direction. It splattered harmlessly against the ground near you!
"Jinx!" You gasped, pretending to be scandalized by the sudden bold action of the woman. You eventually retaliated with your own handful of sand, carefully aiming so it landed just shy of Jinx’s leg. Of course, just because you didn’t want to get her dirty once again, nor did you want to get dirty with sand. That stuff is horrible to get out! (Though, you probably won’t be able to avoid that)
The "sandcastle competition" quickly devolved into a full-blown sand fight, both of you laughing so hard you both could barely breathe as you launched sand ball after sand ball of each other, even getting up from where you were seated and rushing around the shore of the beach of your island.
When you both finally collapsed in the sand, covered in grit and panting from laughter, you glanced over at Jinx, your expression softening at the sight of her being so happy.
It filled your chest with a warm, fuzzy feeling that never seemed to truly go away. Hell, every time you saw her it would fill your chest with that odd feeling, one you could not figure out for the life of you.
But.. it wasn’t unwelcome.
"You’re trouble," you said, brushing a stray strand of hair from the bluette’s face.
"Yeah," Jinx replied, grinning up at the sky.
"But you like it."
You could stay like this forever..
Later on upon cleaning each other up from the small sand fight the both of you had - you found yourselves simply sitting together on the cliff near the palace, letting the rhythm of the waves surrounding the island and the chirping of the birds fluttering on fill the silence.
Jinx leaned against your shoulder as the two of you watched the sunset. The warm hues of orange and pink bathed the horizon, casting a golden glow over the beach. Your heart definitely skipped a couple of beats, warmth spreading to your cheeks as you tried to remain calm in this situation.
For once? She seemed completely at peace.
You didn’t dare move of course, afraid that even the smallest shift might disturb the moment. So instead, you let your gaze drift over Jinx’s profile, your heart beating a little faster than usual.
"Do you ever think about what’s out there?" Jinx asked suddenly, her voice soft.
"Out where?" You replied, tilting your head slightly.
"Out there," Jinx repeated, gesturing vaguely toward the horizon of your island.
"The people, the places. Everything I left behind."
Your expression grew somber at the mention, turning your gaze to look back over the horizon.
You haven’t left this island for so long, you’ve forgotten what it’s like out there. So many things have changed, but this little island of yours stayed the same, unchanging until Jinx arrived.
“Do you regret it?"
Jinx was quiet for a long moment, seemingly thinking about your words.
“Sometimes. I think about my sister, Violet or— Vi. About how I left her to scream and cry.”
"And then other times, I think about Ekko. About what could’ve been."
She let out a small, bitter laugh.
“But then I think about how it’d all probably go wrong anyway."
You reached out, hesitating for just a moment before placing your hand gently over Jinx’s.
"You don’t have to run from it, you know." You turned your head once more, gazing down at Jinx as she rested upon your shoulder.
Then, Jinx turned to look at you, your faces closer than either of you realized.
“And what about you? You don’t run from anything?"
Your smile was faint but tinged with sadness.
"I’ve been running for a long time." You let out a small giggle, trying to make light out of the dark situation.
Your gazes lingered, unspoken words wishing to be said. But before either of you could say anything more, Jinx leaned back, breaking the moment.
“..I’m gonna go inside.”
And then she finally arose from the spot on the cliff before walking off, leaving to your lonesome once more.
As the days blended into weeks, and you found yourself tethered to Jinx in ways that… terrified you as much as they comforted you.
At first, it was innocent—a lingering glance here, a brush of your fingers there. But soon, it became something more consuming, an ache that twisted in your chest every time Jinx so much as wandered out of sight. (You don’t understand this. You hate it, but you love it because it makes you.. happy).
During the day, you were never far from Jinx’s side. Wherever Jinx went, you followed, often under the pretense of needing to “check on her.” Whether it was a quiet walk along the shoreline or a shared meal, your presence was a constant.
You insisted on carrying Jinx’s tools when she tinkered, your hands brushing against Jinx’s at every opportunity. You lingered in every hug that Jinx had finally submitted to, holding on just a little too long, your fingers tightening as if letting go might cause Jinx to vanish.
And at night? The same ritual would happen as you remembered. You tiptoed to Jinx’s room, your bare feet silent against the cool flooring of your palace. You’d push the door open just enough to peek inside, your gaze softening at the sight of Jinx sprawled out on the bed, her breathing deep and even.
You couldn’t help yourself.
You’d creep closer, your fingertips brushing a stray lock of blue hair from Jinx’s face, or even simply just fixing her position on the bed so she would be more comfortable and not have a horrible ache within her neck. Your heart would flutter at the faintest smile that graced the sleeping woman’s lips. Satisfied, you would then retreat to your own room, but sleep never came easily after.
The worry, the need to ensure Jinx was still there, always tugged at your mind.
So many have left you, hurt you, vanished before your very eyes due to the powers of the gods above as they cursed you for everything you’d done. Cursed you to this island.
But not this time.
Jinx will stay. You’re SURE of it!
Not only that: but hand-holding became as natural as breathing, your own fingers always lacing through Jinx’s whenever you both walked together. Jinx didn’t seem to mind—in fact, she seemed to enjoy the closeness!
The idea of Jinx leaving was unbearable. You couldn’t stop replaying the memory of Jinx’s arrival, the way your heart had soared for the first time in a century. You’d been so alone for so long, her only companions being the unchanging skies, the shining sun, and the whispering wind. Everyone left you, abandoned you to nothing because they HATED you. Hated you for what you’d done, for everything you had done.
Your fear of being alone forever became overwhelming after the last being had left your little island over a few years ago.
Now?
Jinx has become your entire world.
“You okay there, trinket?” Jinx’s voice broke through your thoughts.
“Hm?” You blinked, realizing you’d been staring at Jinx for far too long.
“You’ve been quiet today,” Jinx teased, a smirk tugging at her lips.
“Usually, you’re fussing over me by now.”
“Hey! I’m not fussing,” you stammered, furrowing your brows.
“I’m just… making sure you’re okay. You have a horrible tendency to get hurt, you know!”
Jinx chuckled, reaching out to ruffle your hair.
“You worry too much, trinket. I’m not going anywhere.”
The words were meant to reassure, but they struck you like a dagger.
The promise of permanence felt fragile, like glass that could shatter at the slightest touch. And you would not let that happen. Not now, not ever.
“I know,” you murmured, your voice barely audible.
But the fear remained within you, gnawing at your mind non-stop.
As the days after passed, your behavior only intensified. You found yourself tracing Jinx’s movements, memorizing the way her hair caught the sunlight, the sound of her laugh, the curve of her smile. You cataloged every detail, desperate to hold onto the pieces of Jinx that made you feel alive.
Your need for Jinx’s presence grew insatiable, and while Jinx didn’t seem to notice—or perhaps didn’t mind, and you began to feel the weight of your own desperation. It wasn’t fair to Jinx, this suffocating need to keep her close, but you couldn’t stop yourself. After all, how could you, when Jinx was the only light in a world that had been so dark for so long? When everyone had chosen to leave you upon hearing the god’s messengers give them the opportunity.
Yet this woman didn’t.
She never left you!!
So, why wouldn’t you grow overprotective?
And as you sat together while watching the sunset, you couldn’t resist resting your head on Jinx’s shoulder, like she’d done a while ago. Your heart pounded as you felt Jinx relax into the gesture, her warmth seeping into your skin.
“Thanks for sticking with me, Pixie,” you whispered, your voice soft.
Jinx’s breath hitched. She wanted to say something, to confess the depths of her feelings, but the words caught in her throat. Instead, she simply tightened her grip on your hand, praying that the moment wouldn’t end.
But deep down, she knew that she couldn’t keep living in fear. Something would have to give: whether it was her unspoken feelings or the fragile balance of your relationship.
This has become out of control.
You’ve become insane, haven’t you??
I mean- at first, Jinx didn’t even notice the depth of your little obsession. She’d connect the clinginess as an endearing gesture, even comforting. A gesture that you were fully trusting her now. Jinx had always been starved for affection herself, and your constant attention felt like it was healing her own wounds.
But as your behavior worsened, Jinx.. began to feel smothered.
The amount of you can recount that you’d stepped out of line made you feel sick the more you thought about it.
Like, even though this was unintentional, you had begun to subtly discourage Jinx from exploring the island on her own. Every time Jinx suggested going off by herself, you'd find excuses to tag along or subtly guilt-trip convince her into staying.
“I thought we could spend the day together. Aren’t I enough company?”
Your nightly checks had grown more intrusive. Instead of just brushing Jinx’s hair aside and leaving like you used to do, you’d linger, sitting by her bedside for hours, watching her sleep to ensure she was “safe.”
And as your behavior escalated, the thoughts of what you were doing became overwhelming, as you had become hyper aware of the fact that this was in fact becoming out of your control, how your clinginess worsened, everything.
You feel powerless. Too powerless to stop yourself.
Your loneliness and fear of abandonment—rooted in those centuries of isolation.. they only feed into your cycle.
You’d begun suppressing your emotions around the woman, sabotaging her independence, panicking at any separation.
And she finally picked up on all of it.
Though at first, Jinx didn’t not notice the depth of your obsession. Your constant attention felt like it was healing her own wounds.
But as your behavior worsened, Jinx had begun to feel smothered.
“You’ve been acting kinda weird lately, angel,” Jinx said, a playful lilt in her voice as you two sat together. She threw a pebble toward the water, watching it skip.
“Y’know, you don’t have to stick to me like glue. I’m not going anywhere, so you can chill.”
Your laugh came a little too quickly, a little too forced.
“I’m just looking out for you, Pixie.”
Jinx raised an eyebrow, side-eyeing you at your response.
“Yeah, but looking out and hovering are two different things.”
You brushed the concern away with a soft smile, changing the subject almost instantly. Jinx let it go that day, but the unease lingered. She was used to people being interested in her, fascinated even (I mean with the Jinxers and all).
But this? This was starting to feel different.
And as days turned into weeks once more, and your behavior didn’t just persist—it grew.
You were always there: waiting by the door when Jinx left her room, hovering close whenever Jinx tinkered with something, insisting on being around for every little thing.
It didn’t take long for Jinx’s patience to wear thin.
“Why do you always have to hover?” Jinx snapped one day, her voice sharp with irritation. She was sitting cross-legged on the ground, pieces of a broken gadget sprawled before her. You were kneeling far too close, watching her hands move.
You flinched at the sudden question.
“I just want to help you—”
“I don’t need help!” Jinx interrupted, throwing her arms up.
“You think I can’t handle myself? ‘Cause I can. Been doing it my whole life!”
The words were harsh, sharper than Jinx intended, but they hit their mark. Your expression faltered, guilt clouding your features as you took a hesitant step back.
Jinx, although frustrated, rubbed the back of her neck, trying to keep her temper in check. She shouldn’t lash out at you like that.. You’ll learn to back off.
“I get it, okay? You care. But, trinket… you’ve gotta let me breathe.”
The silence that followed felt heavy, as neither of you said anything after that.
But still, you were once again staring down at her hands while Jinx grumbled to herself and returned to her work.
And despite her frustration, Jinx wasn’t blind. She saw the way your expression tightened when she walked out of the room, the hollow look that sometimes flickered across your face when you thought no one was watching. And as much as Jinx hated feeling stifled, she couldn’t ignore the pain driving your actions.
One night, after another particularly tense day for the both of you, Jinx finally confronted you. You both were sitting by the fireplace within the parlor, embers crackling. And as she had begun to speak, her tone softened.
“Look, I’m not going anywhere, okay?” she said quietly, drawing your attention. The goddess, or you, had been staring into the flames, lost in thought.
“But you’ve gotta stop acting like I’m gonna vanish the second you blink. I’m not some dream you’re gonna wake up from, angel.”
Your lips parted as if to respond, but no words came. Your hands trembled slightly in your lap as you shifted a bit, averting your gaze.
“I get it,” Jinx continued, her voice steadier now.
“You’ve been alone for a long time… and you’re scared. But this? This isn’t how it works.” She looked at you, even if you couldn’t see it - she couldn’t help the way her expression was softening even further.
“You don’t gotta hold me so tight to keep me around. I’m not going anywhere without a reason.”
You nodded faintly as your eyes returned to look her in the eyes, even with how uncomfortable it was.
But the look in YOUR eyes told Jinx that the message hadn’t fully landed.
But the real breaking point of this entire thing?
God, how did that even start again..
It was a couple days later when Jinx decided to venture off alone, desperate for some time to herself. She’d left early, without telling you where she was going.
And by the time she returned hours later?
She found you in a state of panic, your eyes wide and frantic.
When you noticed her, you immediately rushed over to her and gripped her shoulders, checking her to see if she had any injuries or anything out of the ordinary.
“Where were you?!” You demanded, your voice quivering with equal parts anger and desperation.
Jinx blinked, caught off guard at your sudden harsh tone.
“What’s your deal? I just went for a walk.”
“You didn’t say anything! You were gone—I didn’t know if something happened to you!” Your voice cracked, your usual calm composure slipping entirely. It’s like you were entirely different..
You are different however, aren’t you?
“I told you, I can’t lose you!”
Jinx’s temper finally flared at those last words you spoke, scoffing in response.
“Lose me?! I’m not some possession you can just keep tabs on all day!” Her voice was sharp, cutting through the air like a knife.
“I can’t breathe with you around all the time! You say you care about me, but this isn’t care—it’s control!”
The words hit you like a physical blow. Bleeding out right in the pouring cold rain as it had once before.
You took a step back, tears already streaming down your face as you stared at her, arms wrapping yourself as a failed attempt to make yourself feel comforted.
“I’m sorry!” you choked out, your voice broken.
“I just… I can’t lose you! You’re all I have, Jinx. You don’t understand, you’re everything to me! You changed everything for me!”
Jinx faltered, caught between anger and guilt. Your desperation was raw, real, and heartbreaking.
But Jinx couldn’t ignore how suffocating it had become.
“This isn’t healthy,” Jinx said, quieter now but firm.
“You can’t live like this. And you can’t make me the only thing you’ve got.”
You almost instantly crumpled under the weight of Jinx’s words, retreating into yourself as you sobbed quietly. Jinx watched you, torn between frustration and empathy, unsure of how to fix what had shattered between the two of you you.
“..I’m sorry.”
And with that, you immediately rushed out of the palace from the door that Jinx had walked in from, never stopping for a second as she called out for you. You ran for as long as you could, never stopping for a second until you had collapsed to the ground from how long you had ran.
For as small as this island may seem, you’re somewhat shocked at how big it seemed as you ran through the forest, feet aching.
Eventually, you settled on resting on the forest floor, refusing to return to the palace.
Who would want to be there with a monster such as yourself?
Maybe the gods should just keep you locked up in a cage, where you could never harm anyone ever again.
In the days that followed, your absence was palpable. You withdrew entirely from being a part of Jinx’s life, ashamed of your own behavior and terrified that you’d ruined everything. You refused to eat, refused to even sleep some nights. Even with how tempting the idea of returning back to the palace seemed, you restrained yourself - reminded of what had happened days prior.
And so you remained on the island, simply lingering around anywhere where Jinx couldn’t find you (for the most part).
She’d seen your hair a few times, but when she had called out for you once more? You vanished.
As if you were never there to begin with.
Jinx couldn’t shake the memory of your desperation. She knew what loneliness felt like: what it meant to cling to something, anything, to keep yourself from drowning.
It’s because of that you’d become like this..
You were so kind, so calm and caring before. But this corruption had already sunk its claws into you, forcing you to anxiety and insecurity.
And eventually, Jinx sought you out.
She found you sitting alone at the edge of the beach, staring out at the endless horizon with your knees close to your chest.
Jinx sat beside you, the silence stretching between you both.
“Come to berate me?” You muttered, voice tired and wavering.
“What?”
“You’re justified for doing so.. I just… I don’t even know anymore. I can’t even apologize normally anymore because of these stupid feelings.” You buried your face into your knees, tears threatening to form within the corners of your eyes.
“I’m so sorry. You never deserved that, and yet I did it anyway. I’ve forgotten what it’s like to be a normal being, haven’t I? Being banished here, no human interaction for so long..” Jinx stared at you for a long moment before sighing, averting her gaze.
And then, she spoke.
“Y’know, it doesn’t have to be like this.”
You didn’t respond, but Jinx pressed on.
“You’re more than just… whatever you think you are to me. You’ve got this place, this life as a goddess. You don’t need to hang everything on me.”
You raised your head and turned it head slightly, your eyes red and tired.
“But what if you leave?..”
Jinx let out a small, almost bitter laugh.
“Yeah, well… you ain’t gettin’ rid of me that easy.” She nudged tour shoulder gently, her tone softening.
“But you gotta trust me. And more than that, you gotta trust yourself. You’re stronger than you think, trinket. You don’t need to hold me so tight to know I’m here.”
You didn’t reply right away, but something in your core shifted. It wasn’t immediate, and it wouldn’t be easy, but it was a start.
That feeling of hope once more.
Hope that you’d felt with her alone once again.
For both of you.
The rain pattered lightly against the palace windows, the warm air inside a comforting contrast to the storm outside. You moved through the halls, a plate of Jinx's favorite meal in your hands. Your expression was bright, softened by the anticipation of Jinx's reaction. You both had gotten on better terms once more, figuring out what to do so it couldn’t get so bad.
Of course, you still had a few issues to work through still.. but you were willing to do so for her!
"Pixie!" You called out with a cheerful lilt, your voice echoing down the corridor as you finally made it to the bluette’s room.
No response.
Your smile faltered slightly, but you continued forward nonetheless, pushing open the door to her room. You could see that Jinx was hunched over her desk, her posture stiff as she fidgeted with some new contraption she was working on. You felt your smile return, feeling more calm by understanding that she was busy and not ignoring purposefully.
You know she has quite the tendency to get lost within her work, focusing entirely on it and NOTHING else!
Quickly, you cleared your throat and approached the woman.
"Pixie? Are you alright? I brought you some food—"
"Get out."
The words were sharp, cutting through the air like a blade. You almost immediately froze in place, blinking in disbelief at the sudden harsh tone.
"Pardon?.." You asked softly, your voice tinged with more confusion than anything.
Jinx turned to face you, her eyes wild, her voice louder now.
“I said, get OUT! Are you deaf?!"
Your hands trembled at how she spoke to you, confused and concerned of what was going on. Carefully, you set the plate down on a nearby table before immediately returning your attention to the woman, determined to figure out what was causing all of this.
"Pixie… What's going on? Why are you acting—“
Before you could even finish, Jinx’s hand lashed out. The slap was swift and cold, and the worse part? She slapped you with what you KNEW was the hand with that metal finger of hers. The stinging against your cheek felt like it was burning, and the sound echoed in the room, followed by a silence so deafening it felt like everything just stopped in time.
You just stood there, stunned, one hand slowly rising to touch the tender skin of your cheek. Your wide eyes locked onto Jinx, who looked equally horrified, as though she couldn’t believe what she’d just done to you.
Your lips parted to speak, but no words came. And so instead, you turned on your heel and walked out, the door closing behind you with a soft click.
The days that followed were heavy with unspoken words. Jinx and you had barely exchanged a GLANCE since the incident, hell - barely even being in the same room together!! Jinx claimed she didn’t remember saying those things, but as for you… you weren’t sure anymore. Perhaps it was all part of the gods’ plan; to drive a wedge between you two, to make you suffer, as they always had.
So when they came to you in the middle of the night as you were at the beach, coming to tell you the most devastating news of your life. You haven’t slept all night after hearing them either..
And so now you’re here at the beach once more, your back against a jagged rock, your feet brushing the cold stone path. In your hand, you twirled a blue flower, its delicate petals soft and fresh. You sighed, your chest tightening as you heard the faint clinking of metal tools nearby.
Peeking out from behind the rock, you saw Jinx tinkering with another bomb. The sight made your heart ache. Her hands moved deftly, but there was a tension in her posture, a stiffness that reminded you of that very day.
You stood, clutching the flower tightly to gather the courage before you made your way toward Jinx. The sound of your footsteps were nearly drowned out by the rhythmic crashing of the waves.
“Someone arrived today,” you said with a blank tone, standing a little to Jinx’s right.
Jinx froze, her hands pausing mid-motion. You quickly continued.
“They said they’re taking you away… ‘that you’re not mine to save’.” You stepped closer, your voice trembling ever so slightly as you spoke.
“And soon I won’t get to see your face.”
With a delicate carefulness, you placed the blue flower behind Jinx’s ear, your fingers brushing against her hair as though you were handling the most fragile piece of glass in the world.
“So I came by to say: You’re unlike anyone I have ever known.” Her hand lingered near Jinx’s shoulder for a moment longer than needed, before pulling away.
“Because you’re all I’ve ever known.”
Tears brimmed in your eyes as you took a step back, wrapping your arms around yourself.
“The ones before you refused to tell me anything, refused to trust me. I knew nothing but their faces.” You elaborated, taking a deep breath afterwards.
“And if I pushed you, or if I came on too strong at any time, or if I ambushed you… for that, I’ll say I was wrong.” Your voice cracked, though you continued.
“And if you hate me..” the words came out like poison, bitter and sharp as the taste lingered on your tongue, tears threatening to spill.
“..then I am sorry for that, I truly am. But I’m not sorry for loving you.”
“Trinket..” Jinx’s voice was quiet, almost just that of a whisper, but you cut her off with a raised hand.
“Let me speak!” You cried out, raising your voice.
“I spent my whole life here! I was cast away when I was young. Alone for a hundred years! I had no friends but the sky and sun!” Your voice cracked as memories of your past flooded her mind. The years you spent alone, your freedom being taken away from you, watching all of your kind being murdered - your own father killed before you. Being forced to even participate in a war you never wished to..
“So when you washed ashore… I thought for sure that you were my dream come true. I thought I knew…” You paused, thinking about your next words.
“I don’t even know anymore.. that you’d like me? But I guess I didn’t, did I? That I was too foolish to think that? Huh?”
You turned sharply, your tone cold.
“So I guess this is goodbye, Jinx. I hope you’re happy… after all, you’ll never see me again.”
You began to walk away, tears streaming down your cheeks. You can’t watch her being taken away. As much as she hurt you, you just can’t.
“Trinket, wait!” Jinx’s voice was doused with desperation — but just as Jinx reaches where you had been moments ago, you were gone. Fading into some sort of mist like an unreachable dream.
The ocean wind whips around her, carrying the faint echoes of your words, reminiscing around as if to taunt her further about the crushing reality that is her future.
And she stands there, not knowing what to do.

🎄 AN ARCANE CHRISTMAS ༄
— summary : basically just what arcane characters are like at christmas
— i missed writing so bad & my caitvi headcanons got a lot of likes and i was like yay!! and since it’s the first of december.. i feel like this was needed. so happy arcane christmas ! also this is an au where vi & caitlyn are together , everybody is alive & they’re all happy and healthy in their respective cities but are all friends due to connections 😝 never done something like this before so tell me if i should do more or quit forever
— mainly includes vi, caitlyn, jinx, ekko sevika, isha, jayce, mel & viktor
— by the way i read @rhiannonsknife ‘s rhiannon christmas headcanons earlier and i thought the layout was so beautiful so that’s what the design is inspired by !! none of the hcs tho from what i remember hahah these r all original (ur writing is so good pls never die)
— tags bc yay @thankynext @tortvredpoetsblog
secret santa!
some people (jinx) complained about getting presents for everybody, so caitlyn suggested they do a secret santa! vi wrote down everybody’s names and they all got folded into a hat, and they all picked one (except isha) bla bla bla u know how it goes . on christmas afternoon, everybody goes over to the kiramman house for christmas dinner , and before the dinner they agreed to exchange gifts. something had gone wrong as sevika ended up with two gifts and jayce with none.. “vi! you put sevika in twice?” - a very angry caitlyn. she wanted this to go perfectly:( “i’m sorry! i don’t think about jayce a lot!” - a stuttering vi trying for an excuse because she feels bad. jayce sulking because he doesn’t have a present but sevika can’t give him one of hers because one of them is arm attachments from jinx and the other is cute stickers for it from mel. isha being sad that she wasn’t included but everybody got her something little and cute so she cheers up. caitlyn pulling jinx’s name and using this to try and repair their relationship, absolutely spoiling jinx with gifts. she even earns a smile :( viktor getting ekko and worrying bc they aren’t that close but jayce helps him.. they all gave jayce their sprouts as an apology and made vi do 50 sit ups (caitlyn suggested it..)
decorating the tree!
christmas for caitlyn is her roman empire. she needs everything to be perfect and she’s not a beige christmas or a green christmas. she’s a white christmas. her tree is white and the baubles are red and silver. the first two christmases after the war, she never let anybody help, but this year she felt festive and like it was an activity they could all do together. however, as soon as isha got anywhere near the tree with her hands covered in chocolate after eating out of a melted advent calendar, caitlyn was done. she gave vi the stern look and vi had to distract isha while caitlyn “fixed” the tree , and instead they all did a silly one at jinx’s place :) nobody was mad at caitlyn because they know how much she loves christmas and she surprised them all with the house being completely lit up and decorated
sevika , jinx & isha
sevika was unsure about spending christmas with everybody , as she wasn’t close with any of them except jinx and isha . jinx was invited because of vi obviously & that included isha too . vi suggested sevika come if she wanted to, and though she’d never admit it, sevika didn’t want to spend christmas alone after the crazy year, so she agreed. isha was just excited for people to be getting her presents… and stuffing her face with caitlyns cooking. caitlyn was actually left to look after isha for a little while & she loved it, isha gets excited when she sees caitlyn now. “i wanted to be the cool aunt..” - a pouting vi watching caitlyn hold isha. jinx felt awkward because she got the “family invitation”, but after a chat with vi & everyone embracing her she was fine and actually loved feeling like part of a family again. sevika was awkward when she arrived on christmas morning but after one friendly chat with vi, she figured she could talk with anybody & she did!
christmas dinner!
the people in charge of cooking christmas dinner were jayce, caitlyn and mel. caitlyn cooked for her and vi every year, and since christmas was at their house, she was in charge by default. mel walked into the kitchen to chat with caitlyn and saw she was struggling, so she called jayce in to help because the both of them attended cooking classes together and were fairly talented at it.. it came out amazing and was gone in about ten minutes. we already know that vi is a messy eater, but after filling her plate and wolfing it down, there was gravy all round her mouth 😭 caitlyn made sure to make a special plate for isha that had things she would like (isha is a picky eater to me..) because vi told her about it. jayce almost burnt the chicken trying to impress mel with drink pouring… ekko , viktor & sevika hadn’t spent a lot of time with the rest of the group so they were cautious about showing their eating habits, but viktor ended up eating copious amounts of cauliflower, ekko eating like half of the yorkshire puddings & sevika eating about 5 whole pigs with the amount of pigs in blankets she ate
caitvi
they both agreed to not get the other anything big or special, but they both did. caitlyn helped vi get back on her feet (i hc vi works at a mechanics now :3) and vi wanted to repay her, probably getting her some jewellery with a cringey engravement on it and she goes red while cait is reading it but caitlyn loves it… 🤗 & caitlyn got vi some boots that they saw in a shop window and vi said “do you think i’d look hot in those” and caitlyn thought yes.
jinx & ekko
so they aren’t dating but they’re like. lowk flirting like hiiii.. and caitlyn picks up on it and tells vi and vi’s like. “nah there’s no way…” but then she trails off as jinx actually laughs at something ekko says.. jinx doesn’t believe she has a crush on ekko but they spend basically all night talking to eachother other than the small conversations with the others .. jinx introduces ekko to isha and isha asks if that’s jinx’s boyfriend and jinx laughs then ekko feels bad ): but jinx makes it up to him by showing him that she actually got him a present!! like some cool graffiti cans or something & ekko loves them
mistletoe
caitlyn ignored vi’s protesting to have no mistletoe and put it up ALL over the house and i mean everywhere.. she was constantly saying “ooooh is that mistletoe i see!” but vi found it cute so she dragged caitlyn under it and kissed her (jinx scoffed..). jinx and ekko ended up under there and after cait pointed it out, jinx snagged it off the roof, threw it on the floor and stepped on it. “what? i don’t want our first kiss to be infront of my sister and her stupid girlfriend.” “stupid girlfriend?” “first kiss? so there’ll be more?” “shut up.” jayce kept trying to get mel under there but she was dodging it , & jayce got frustrated .. “y’dont wanna kiss me or something?” “well..”
mall santa
jinx took isha into the christmas markets like a week before christmas and did not expect to see sevika dressed as santa. isha literally noticed it before jinx. she tugged on jinx’s arm and pointed at sevika until jinx realised and she was like holy shit.. isha still happily sat on santa’s knee, got a picture and a big hug too while jinx was stood there teasing her. “i think isha wants like.. a hextech hoverboard for christmas.. can ya do that, santa?” but after it sevika payed her a visit and threatened jinx if she told anybody.. she still ended up telling people after they ate dinner on christmas LMAO
BONUS
jinx to vi : “ so you like .. live here now? ya fuckin’ priss..”
viktor almost cried because jayce got him like a cover for his cane because viktor mentioned that it had been really hurting his hands recently but he couldn’t get a new one
whenever vi and caitlyn did anything slightly intimate jinx would say “there we go! kiss an enforcer, ruin christmas..”
for some reason vi treated christmas crackers like an olympics game and would use all her strength to pull it so she got the bigger half.. but she just wanted to tell the corny jokes
jayce was super awkward the whole night & started talking to sevika thinking she was scary but they actually had a nice conversation
mel and caitlyn christmas gossiping over champagne and then watching the christmas special of gavin and stacey because i SAID SO and they’re british
vi drinking straight vodka until caitlyn stopped her because isha made grabby hands at it thinking it was water
caitlyn and vi cringe matching pyjamas that say mrs claus and mrs claus.

Y'know what, no, this deserves to be it's own post cause Im right and I should say it.
Narratively, community is a key concept. The characters all have a solid foundation of where they belong and who they are, and all have to confront the validity of those ideas in one way or another. Us vs them. Our people vs their people. Me vs you.
I think a lot of people, consciously or not, are reeling from the fact that there's this really long battle scene, a couple vignettes, and then it's over. There isn't really any solid closure on the established themes.
In Mel's case, I think that ambiguity is a good thing, because she hasn't found where she belongs. We can go on for years and years imagining if she went, of she stayed, what she does with the Medarda name and legacy.
But when it comes to Ekko and Vi, who I have the strongest feelings about, we only see them as isolated from the communities they fought so hard for. If done right, I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing (think Frodo being so fundamentally changed that he has to leave the shire). But we're just shown Vi and Cait, and then Ekko sitting alone. Neither of these things is necessarily bad, but it also isn't a fulfilling ending.
Regardless of how alone and cut loose your characters feel at the end of a story, your AUDIENCE should feel grounded in the ending. Best case scenario we would have got an extra five to ten minutes for the payoff, but even just a scene of Ekko and Vi together, working through it before the "I'm the dirt under your nails, cupcake" vignette would have done a lot to remedy the feeling that the story wasn't resolved

Ekko.....Amanda needs to count her days. That boy got put through a psychological wringer this season. The poor bastard has to fight his way out of the Arcane both physically and psychologically, just to get transported to an alternate timeline where he had everything he ever wanted. Then his sense of morality just had to kick in the moment he experiences the slightest smidgen of joy, so he goes back to his own timeline, only to have to talk a suicidal Jinx out of blowing both him and her up (five plus times in a row,by the way). Then on top of all that, he has to go be a child soldier in a war that had exactly fuck all to do with him.
If Ekko snapped after this season, I don't blame him at all. That's a child going through all that. Alone. No parents. No siblings. No partner. No actual friends (the Firelights don't count). Vi essentially abandoned him this season because she was so wrapped up in Caitlyn. He lost everything and everyone that mattered to him. And he's expected to just be strong and soldier on and rebuild by himself (with the knowledge of how different and better things were in the alternate timeline) after all of his fresh trauma. We all know Vi wasn't going back to Zaun the second she shacked up with Caitlyn,so he can't even lean on her either.
The fact Ekko's trauma was never really explored either...... Losing your adoptive father and uncle back to back is crazy work for an adult, much less a child to respond to. Yet he never gets a moment to really sit with his feelings because he's got work to do. I also haven't missed the fact that Jinx was heralded as the Zaunite revolutionary......as if Ekko didn't lay the foundation for a revolution by creating the Firelights. Or a scientific revolution with the Z-Drive. Like, damn, this teenager did so much with so little. And he gets no credit for it.
(Ekko,I'm sorry. This show really did you so dirty.)
FACTS. FACTS. STRAIGHT FACTS. Ekko literally recreated tech from scratch in the alternate timeline because it didn’t exist, to save a timeline that is practically in ashes. That’s how intelligent the guy is. Then he comes back and has….nobody to lean on whatsoever, like you said. It’s gut wrenching and I’m getting angry thinking about it.
Saves EVERYONE and yet no one he truly cares about is even alive or doesn’t even take a moment to show up at the end of it all to hug him. The state of the firelights tree is unknown. I can only presume with Viktor gone, the tree is okay now? We’ll never know.
As Ekko is gone, Piltover has a the audacity to attempt to recruit Zaunites to essentially die for them. It’s disgusting. He would not stand for this.
The current state of Zaun is worse than it was in season 1 and I hope that he at least still has the firelights hideout. It’s disheartening, the way things went.

Dreams Come True
Chapter 6: Good Enough
summary: you start to doubt your self worth and wonder if you’re any good for vi.
mentions: angst, modern!au, fame!au, self harm, vi being stubborn 🙄, hospital talk, they were actually celebrating cait’s birthday, timebomb 🤭, dramatic reader maybe it’s all the painkillers.
notes : im writing this on the same day of me being sick and on period. y’all better be glad i love yall. 🫵🫶
You woke up to the sterile smell of a hospital, the faint beeping of machines around you breaking the eerie silence. Your throat ached with every shallow breath, and as you blinked the sleep from your eyes, you noticed Jinx and Ekko seated beside your bed.
"Tinker?" you rasped weakly, your voice hoarse and raw.
Jinx immediately jumped up, grabbing your hand tightly. "Don’t talk too much! The doctor said it’s not a good idea," she said quickly, her voice filled with worry.
You nodded faintly, glancing around the room as if searching for someone. Jinx seemed to understand immediately. “Vi isn’t here… yet,” she muttered, her voice dropping. “I’ve been calling her, texting her. I even used your phone, but she hasn’t answered.”
Her words stung, more than you wanted to admit. After all the things Vi had said—how much she loved you, how much she wanted to be with you—you couldn’t understand why she hadn’t shown up. The hurt seeped into your chest, but you forced yourself to push it aside.
“Mel is on the way, though,” Jinx continued, attempting to comfort you. “She’s bringing some stuff to help with your throat—and food. You need to eat.”
Ekko, who had been sitting silently, stood up and placed a hand on Jinx’s shoulder. “Let’s step outside for a minute,” he said gently, his tone indicating there was more he wanted to say out of your earshot.
Jinx hesitated, looking at you. “I’ll be right back, okay?” she said, her hand lingering on yours before Ekko guided her out of the room.
Now alone, you let your eyes wander, spotting your phone resting on the table at the far end of the bed. You sat up slowly, wincing as the IV tugged at your arm. You reached out, stretching to grab it, but the effort was futile.
Just as you tried again, a hand appeared, stopping you. You looked up to see Mel standing over you, her expression firm but laced with concern.
"I don’t think you want to look at your phone right now," she said softly, setting it back down out of reach. She sat on the edge of the bed and held up a bag. "Here. I brought you your favorite Chipotle order—and some tea to take home later."
You blinked at her, surprised, but took the bowl and fork she offered. The warmth of the food in your hands was grounding, even if you didn’t feel particularly hungry. As you took a hesitant bite, Mel relaxed a little, seeming relieved to see you eat.
“Don’t worry about anything else right now, please,” Mel said, her voice steady and soothing. “Jinx told me you haven’t eaten all day. You need to focus on getting better.”
You nodded, taking another bite, the weight of her words settling over you.
Mel continued, her tone gentle but firm. “The meet and greet is next week. We’ve doubled security, so… no need for this to happen again.” Her eyes flicked briefly to the faint bruise still visible on your neck, her jaw tightening.
You could only nod again, your voice lost to the ache in your throat and the heavier ache in your heart.
attention away from the food in front of you. You glanced at Mel, who had been quietly sitting beside you, and gestured for her to hand you the phone. She picked it up, glanced at the screen, and her eyebrows raised slightly.
"It’s Vi," she said softly before handing it to you.
The contact name Vi 🫶 flashed across the screen, and your heart clenched. You hesitated, your thumb hovering over the green button, but finally, you answered the call.
“Hello, babe?” Vi’s voice came through, casual yet tinged with concern.
You opened your mouth to respond, but the sharp ache in your throat stopped you. Instead, you glanced at Mel, silently asking for her help. Understanding your plight, Mel gently took the phone from your hand.
“She can’t talk,” Mel said firmly. “But she’ll listen to you.”
There was a pause before Vi sighed audibly on the other end. “I’m so sorry I didn’t answer your calls,” she began, her tone apologetic but far from desperate. “Me, Ellie, and Abby went clubbing, and I wasn’t checking my phone. I’m sorry. Forgive me.”
Her words felt like a weight pressing against your chest. You glanced at the bedside table, your thoughts spinning. Grabbing the paper and pen a nurse had left behind, you began writing. After a moment, you turned the note toward Mel.
It read simply: HANG UP.
Mel’s eyes widened in surprise, but she hesitated. “Are you sure?” she mouthed silently, her hand hovering over the phone.
You nodded firmly, your expression unreadable.
“Sorry, Vi,” Mel said into the receiver, her voice steady, before she ended the call.
The line went dead, and Mel set the phone back on the table. She turned toward you, her expression shifting from confusion to mild concern. “Why did you want me to do that?”
You shook your head, dismissing the question. Picking up your fork again, you took another bite of your food, avoiding her gaze. You wanted more than a sorry. She should’ve been here by now. That asshole…
Mel watched you for a moment, clearly debating whether to press further. But as you focused on the food in front of you, she sighed and leaned back in her chair. "Okay. But… when you’re ready to talk about it, I’m here."
You didn’t respond, the silence growing heavy between you. Instead, you focused on the mundane act of eating, using it to block out the swirl of emotions Vi’s call had stirred.
Once you felt like you had eaten enough, you closed your bowl and placed it on the nightstand. With a deep breath, you picked up your phone, preparing yourself for the inevitable flood of notifications. You unlocked it and saw the chaos waiting for you—texts from your parents asking if you were okay, increasingly frantic messages from Steb, and even a few from the CEO.
But what caught your attention most were two TMZ notifications.
The first headline read: Aurora’s (Y/N) Attacked by Deranged Fan Outside Burger Joint!
Your heart sank as you opened the article. It detailed the terrifying encounter you had endured earlier, describing your attacker and mentioning how Jinx and Ekko had come to your rescue. Your stomach churned as you scrolled through photos taken at the scene—your bruised neck was visible in a few of them. The comments section was already flooded with concern, questions, and speculation.
Shaking your head, you closed the article and moved on to the second notification, but this one made your blood run cold:
Hockey Star Vi, Spotted Clubbing with Olympic Ice Skater Caitlyn!
Your eyes widened as the article loaded. There it was: a series of photos of Vi out at a club with Ellie, Abby, and Caitlyn. What struck you most wasn’t just the carefree look on Vi’s face but the way her arm was wrapped snugly around Caitlyn’s waist in one of the shots.
The article speculated about a possible romance between Vi and Caitlyn, with no mention of you. It stung in ways you hadn’t expected. Even though you and Vi hadn’t confirmed anything publicly, her actions felt like a betrayal.
Tears welled up in your eyes as you zoomed in on the photo. The flood of emotions—hurt, anger, humiliation—came crashing down all at once. Vi had said she loved you, promised she cared, yet here she was, looking perfectly content with someone else.
Mel noticed the change in your expression and the tears streaming down your face. “(Y/N)? What’s wrong?” she asked gently.
You couldn’t respond right away, the lump in your throat making it hard to speak. Instead, you tilted your phone toward her, showing her the article.
Mel’s eyes scanned the screen, her expression hardening as she took in the details. “That’s low,” she muttered, placing the phone back down.
The tears started flowing freely now, your sobs coming out raspy and broken. You couldn’t hold it back any longer. All the effort you had put into your connection with Vi, all the late nights and vulnerable moments—it felt meaningless.
“No, no, no, don’t cry,” Mel said softly, pulling you into a hug. Her arms were steady and comforting, but they couldn’t stop the ache in your chest.
Jinx, hearing the sound of your sobs, rushed into the room. She froze when she saw the tears streaming down your face and glanced at your phone, still open to the article. Her face fell as she put the pieces together.
“I’m so sorry, (Y/N),” Jinx said quietly, stepping closer. “Maybe… maybe I should’ve told you about it earlier instead of letting you see it like this.”
Jinx joined the hug, wrapping her arms around you and Mel. Her warmth added to the cocoon of comfort, but it didn’t stop your body from trembling as you cried harder.
Mel hugged you tighter, resting her chin lightly on the top of your head. “Hey, hey, don’t jump to conclusions just yet,” she said gently. “There could be an explanation for this. You know how the media loves to stir up drama.”
Jinx nodded in agreement as she knelt beside the bed, placing a comforting hand on your knee. “Yeah, (Y/N). Vi might’ve just been out with friends, and Caitlyn was probably just… there. That picture doesn’t necessarily mean anything.”
You sniffled, wiping at your eyes, but you couldn’t bring yourself to respond. The image of Vi holding Caitlyn like that was burned into your mind, making it hard to think rationally.
Mel noticed your hesitation and gave you a reassuring squeeze. “I know it’s hard, but you should hear Vi out before assuming the worst. She might not even realize how this looks.”
Jinx chimed in, her voice softer now. “And, honestly? If it were something serious, don’t you think she’d have at least mentioned it? She’s never been one to hide things from you before.”
You nodded weakly, though your heart still felt heavy. You wanted to believe them, to hold onto the possibility that there was some innocent explanation, but the hurt and doubt lingered.
Mel pulled back slightly, her eyes meeting yours. “Look, you’re already dealing with so much. Don’t let this photo ruin everything. Focus on getting better first, and then you can talk to Vi and figure this out, okay?”
Jinx gave you a small, encouraging smile. “Yeah. You don’t have to figure everything out right now. Just take it one step at a time.”
Their words gave you a sliver of hope, enough to calm the worst of your sobs. You nodded again, letting out a shaky breath as you leaned into Mel’s comforting presence. You’d deal with Vi eventually, but for now, you just needed to focus on healing.
The next day, you went home to your apartment, seeking the solace of familiarity. Mel had decided to stay with you for a few days, insisting she wouldn’t leave until you felt comfortable being alone. You were grateful for her presence, even if you didn’t say it out loud. The days passed quietly. You sipped on warm tea to soothe your voice, occasionally humming softly to test your range as you tried to regain your strength for the meet-and-greet.
Throughout it all, you hadn’t texted or called Vi. It wasn’t that you didn’t want to; it was that you couldn’t. Every time you even considered reaching out, the memory of that TMZ article flashed in your mind, and the tightness in your chest returned. You knew it wasn’t fair to leave her hanging like this, but you also knew that hearing her voice might break you all over again.
Mel had finally moved out of her temporary home in your living room after you assured her that you’d be fine. She had insisted on installing a ring camera for extra security before she left, and you appreciated her thoughtfulness. That night, you sat in your living room with a mug of tea, trying to focus on the calming rhythm of a playlist you’d made.
The doorbell rang, and you assumed it was Mel coming back for something she’d forgotten. Without hesitation, you opened the door. “Come on, Mel. I’m fine—”
You opened the door, expecting it to be Mel again checking in on you, but when you saw Vi standing there, you froze. The sight of her—the woman you loved but felt so betrayed by—unlocked something in you that you couldn’t hold back anymore. Without a word, you burst into tears, your sobs uncontrollable as they wracked through your chest.
Vi immediately stepped forward, pulling you into a hug, her strong arms wrapping around you as she held you close. “I’m so sorry,” she whispered over and over, her lips pressing gentle kisses to your cheeks, forehead, and even the tears streaming down your face. She moved down to kiss your neck softly, her touch tender and full of regret.
But as comforting as her embrace was, the anger and pain you’d been holding onto flared up, and you pushed her away with a surprising amount of force. “Don’t!” you shouted, your voice cracking. “Don’t you dare act like everything’s fine, Vi!”
Vi took a step back, her hands raised in surrender, her eyes wide with guilt and concern. “I know,” she said softly. “I know I messed up, but—”
“No! You don’t know!” you interrupted, your voice rising as all the emotions you’d bottled up spilled out. “Where the hell have you been, Vi? I was in the hospital, bruised, terrified, and you couldn’t even show up? You couldn’t answer a single call or text?”
“I—” Vi started, but you didn’t let her finish.
“And then I find out through a *photo*—a fucking photo, Vi—that you were out clubbing, arm around Caitlyn, like nothing even happened! Do you have any idea how that made me feel? Do you even care?”
“I care!” Vi said, her voice louder this time, but still filled with desperation. “Of course, I care! I just—I didn’t know how to handle it. I was scared, and I fucked up, okay? I didn’t think—I didn’t think it would hurt you this much.”
“That’s the problem!” you yelled, your voice trembling. “You didn’t think! You didn’t think about me, about us. You didn’t think at all!”
Vi’s shoulders slumped, and she looked at you, her eyes glistening with tears she was clearly trying to hold back. “You’re right,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “I didn’t think. I was selfish, and I hurt you, and I’ll regret that for the rest of my life.”
The room went silent for a moment, the weight of her words hanging in the air. You wiped your tears with the sleeve of your sweater, your breathing still shaky. “Then why are you here?” you asked, your voice quieter now. “Why now, Vi?”
Vi stepped closer, her hands reaching out tentatively. “Because I love you,” she said, her voice steady despite the emotion in her eyes. “I love you so much, and I can’t lose you. I know I haven’t shown it the way you deserve, but I’m here now, and I want to make things right.”
You looked at her, searching her face for any sign of insincerity, but all you saw was regret and a genuine need to fix things. “It’s not that simple,” you said softly. “You hurt me, Vi. You made me feel like I didn’t matter.”
“I know,” she said, stepping even closer. “And I hate myself for it. But I swear to you, I’ve never felt about anyone the way I feel about you. That’s why I didn’t ask you to be my girlfriend yet. Not because I don’t want you to be, but because I wanted it to be perfect. I didn’t want to rush it and mess it up like I always do. I wanted the moment to be special, something you’d remember forever.”
Her words caught you off guard, and you stared at her, your anger slowly melting into something softer. “You mean that?” you asked, your voice barely above a whisper.
Vi nodded, her eyes filled with sincerity. “I do. I’ve been scared of messing this up, but I realize now that I’ve already done that by not being honest with you. I love you, and I want you to be my girlfriend—officially, publicly, in every way. But I want to earn that. I want to earn you.”
The vulnerability in her voice broke down the last of your defenses, and before you knew it, you were stepping into her arms again. She held you tightly, her chin resting on top of your head as she whispered, “I’m so sorry, baby. I’ll do whatever it takes to make this right.”
You nodded against her chest, your tears soaking into her shirt. “You’ve got a lot to prove, Vi,” you said softly, your voice muffled.
“I know,” she said, her voice firm. “And I will. I promise.”
For the first time in weeks, you felt a flicker of hope. Things weren’t fixed, not yet, but maybe, just maybe, they could be.
