Where in Beyond Canon is Arquisprite?

Took inspiration from the above post by @pastabaguette and decided to expand upon it due to The Plot Point update as well as some stuff seen even before Vriska’s arc started in The Point.

Let's examine some stuff that may tell us where Arquiusprite is at this time, seeing as we seemingly have only one chapter in The Point left. I think we've got a lead on his whereabouts already.

We've got horses and horse-adjacent creatures.

We've got a robot that looks like it's literally ripped from Equius' hive with a notable missing horn hole and a dent in the head.

There's also this twitter response from James Roach which could be interpreted as suggesting Equius' return in some way at some point in the future.

OP, I'm not saying you're right, but I am saying that if Dirk were to consult anyone on horses, it would probably be a mashup of his AI & Equius. Also Void player behavior apparently! Also Dirk has narrative reality warpy powers & we aren't sure as to the limits of those yet!

Below are some reddit notes about classpects that also lead credence to the idea that Arquisrpite is on Deltritus with Dirk at this time. Outside of the obvious fact that we haven't seen him in The Plot Point or the bonus comics with Jasprosesprite at all as of the Davepetasprite^2 feather chapter release.

Are the robots in case Terezi goes ultimate? Are they backup bodies for Rosebot? A metal body for Arquisprite? Who knows, maybe all three! 🤷‍♀️ Robots are being made by someone though (for some purpose) and they have troll horn slots on their craniums. The exact style robot that Equius used to make back on Alternia; so, make of that what you will!

Also maybe they just need a sprite to kick off whatever makeshift sburb/sgrub copycat they're trying to get running and seeing as Arquiusprite is a splinter of Dirk, it's fitting that he would accompany him. Plus the sprites can kind of just seem to be wherever & whenever the story needs them to be? Seeing as how Jasprose kidnapped Jane in the meat timeline, but in the candy timeline the sprites just kind of seemed to not do much or be absent entirely after a certain point.

There's at least a guaranteed non-zero chance Arquiusprite is on Deltritus.

I haven't seen much exploration of the inevitability of Ratio's passing. I don't think either would be foolish enough to walk the path of abundance. I think Veritas would be very pragmatic about his death, in fact I think he'd be the one to gift himself and his memories to Screwllum for...science (and maybe a bit out of love).

I have some odd concerns that may not have any good answers, but I thought this was the best place to ask.

I have a Minecraft AU world. Specifically a Minecraft: Story Mode AU world. There are many variations from the original game, but the important one concerning me the most right now is that I'm trying to add in some disability representation.

I've done a lot of research into things like missing limbs, burn scars, etc, (often using this blog for help) but I'm struggling to think of a way for a wheelchair user to exist in this world.

Everything is made of blocks, so can wheels or anything like them even exist? Would wheels even be useful in a world where everything is made of blocks? Moving redstone contraptions might be a possible solution, but they'd be huge and clunky.

I'm considering having at least one character who actually rides on an animal to get around instead. Something like a llama, a pig, or maybe even a Minecraft-exclusive entity like a strider. Using an animal would come with its own issues, like the animal not listening to the owner, or the animal not being allowed into certain places...

I'm just not sure if this is an appropriate direction to go in.

I do still have research to do, but I figured asking some real people first might help.

So, in Minecraft, if a certain thing is a circle or oval (such as the music discs, or if you place four pieces of train track right next to each other so they curve into a circle, etc,) it's a circle made of tiny blocks. You can also see this in the wheels on the minecarts, they're circles made of a bunch of little blocks. If you make a wheel out of tiny blocks, you can make a functioning wheel. This functioning wheel could also help with the terrain, as those tiny ninety-degree angles might be able to get a grip on the edges of the terrain blocks in ways purely circular wheels couldn't be.

The gravity in Minecraft isn't particularly devastating, so you might be able to say that a combination of the weaker gravity and the geometry interaction could let someone wheel their chair over uneven terrain. You could make anti-tip measures that would allow the wheelchair to pull a wheelie (tilting so that the front wheels are in the air,) hook the edges between the tiny blocks of the wheel onto the edge of the block of the terrain with the anti-tip measures helping keep them from falling backwards, and then they can either use the incredible strength Minecraft Steve has to push the wheels forward while shifting their weight forward to get up the uneven terrain, or you can create a motor for the wheelchair that's strong enough to get the wheels over that edge safely using the same incredible power that lets the redstone rails send a mine cart speeding off at the speed of light. It's not very far-fetched to create a new Minecraft device that uses redstone as an energy source, turning redstone into a battery.

You can also create "ramp" blocks, kind of a halfway between a slab and stairs, and the character can place those to help with uneven terrain. Or they can place rails up uneven terrain, making a diagonal rail track, that can be used in the same way. The Minecraft gravity and Minecraft Steve's superhuman strength would allow a wheelchair to go up a forty-five-degree slope (wheelchairs definitely can't do that in real life.) Or you could make the ramps longer, creating a block that's two blocks long with a slope of twenty-two-point-five degrees, or a ramp that's three blocks long and has a slope of fifteen degrees, and so on.

Or they could use an animal like a llama to get around the uneven terrain, keeping the wheelchair in a saddlebag or in their inventory (or it can be folded up and just strapped to the saddle somewhere if you want it to be more realistic,) and then they can dismount, set up the chair (or have someone set up the chair before they dismount,) and get in the chair to get around that way. Use the llama in some situations, and the wheelchair in others. And yes, using an animal can definitely come with issues. With pigs and striders, they don't listen to your commands, you dangle a piece of food on a stick to lure them where you want. That's a very unreliable method where a lot can go wrong. Llamas aren't very fast and can be a bit of a pain to tame and ride, plus they have a habit of breaking their leads if you tie them to a fence and they can get into fights with other mobs. Horses would be the best mobs to use as a mobility aid. They're fast, loyal, easy-ish to tame, can jump some obstacles, can wear armour, and you can regenerate their health if they get hurt. They could also use a different animal for different terrains because while a strider is kind of difficult, you can't use a horse or a llama in the Nether. Horses and llamas are suited for different terrains and can be switched between accordingly. There are also options like camels, mules, donkeys, skeleton horses, zombie horses, and maybe even those giant pig things from the Nether, but I don't know as much about those because I have too many Minecraft wiki pages open right now and it's slowing down my computer.

In short, both of your ideas could work, there are ways to make this work. Wheelchairs and ridden mobility mobs are both very possible in Minecraft.

I will say though, saying he has DID is a bit of an oversimplification for that post (not untrue, though). That drawing is for a post-game AU fanfic I’m writing where instead of Earth C being created when they win, the kids are sent to a spliced-together mess of a timeline much like the Beta Timeline, and in the process, their Ultimate Selves are created.

When this happens, Hal, having spent so much time distancing himself from Dirk and going so far as to give himself a different NAME, refuses to integrate properly. And the result is pretty much DID! The Striders live together, UltDave, UltDirk (minus Hal), and Hal all trying to navigate how to live and shenanigans ensue. And then I also made the AU dirkjohn because I can never help myself.

-Dirk doesn’t know about Hal’s existence for a while, and neither does anyone else. He assumes Hal’s consciousness has either integrated into his own like the rest of his splinters, or somehow got destroyed. He starts missing time, and then worrying what’s wrong with him before Hal deigns to announce his presence.

Like: Dirk: Did you eat the last poptart? | Dave: i literally saw you eat it | Dirk: I haven’t been out here all day. (It was Hal; he took it, didnt introduce himself to dave because he was nervous, and ate in silence)

-once the status quo of them sharing a headspace is established, Dirk and Hal definitely start leaving each other notes around the apartment. Dave is like “why is there a note that says ‘kys’ on the mirror” and Hal is like “thats not for you”

-Dirk and Hal have different sensory experiences. For example, Hal hates his hair touching his neck, and Dirk likes it longer. Dirk also loves physical touch while Hal is touch-averse. This is inconvenient because the Striders live together residence only has one bed

So we know Amy has some degree of International notice, going from Interlude 3, but as I gather, Ward, or some degree of Wildbow WoG, has tried to walk back on that, and make a lot about Amy not being that well known beyond Brockton Bay.

Which... well, that's Wildbow for you. But she could just be getting recognition from doctors, medical people and whatnot, and not be a known name.

That's kind of hard to believe, because if we are supposed to believe other errant details, healers, especially of Amy's caliber, are rare. On the other hand, Amy also actively avoids the spotlight as much as she can, she is part of an Independent Team (and thus doesn't have the PR backing of the entire PRT/US government behind her) and so maybe, maybe it makes sense? Maybe people only talk about top tier heroes and their local capes?

On the third hand, it's also implied by the fact that Panacea (nor the rest of New Wave) didn't raise her hand in 8.2, that she hasn't been to any Endbringer fights before. Not even to like, the healing tents during.

And fine, that's the canon, but it's a fucking weird as shit canon, when you think about it. Given Amy's capacity as a healer, you'd think the PRT would be bending over backwards to try and put her to use more, even if she's still New Wave. Girl can heal fucking anything, and while not at no cost and not instantaneously, still faster than pretty much any other option, in most cases, by all available evidence.

She is a teenager, a kid, so they may hesitate - Wards can attend Endbringer battles, but it is more of a choice. But why isn't Amy, with her guilt issues, not going for it? Are Carol or New Wave in general holding her back from it (that would make sense, since New Wave appears to have no Endbringer fighting going on, pre-Leviathan), but you'd still think they'd want to bring her in for the aftermath, right, to heal all the crippled capes? But there's no evidence of that either.

Which again, kind of makes no sense. Again, this girl is insanely capable as a healer. Wouldn't the PRT at least want to pay Strider to take her to the aftermath of a fight, so she can heal like she did in 8.6 (and pre-8.6, no one she'd be healing would be having much complaint about Amy - her bedside manner may not be great, but Skitter wasn't just her picking a random person to be a bitch to. Bad move by her, but hardly indicative)?

Sometimes, the totality of the worldbuilding and character presentation an author creates leaves gaps and holes in the story. They're not 'the story sucks' type holes, they're just 'hey, this doesn't entirely make sense'.

And those holes can be plugged one way or another, but some fics, in any fandom, are just going to start picking and choosing what they keep and don't to try and reconcile them. And so yeah, some fics have Amy being more regionally, nationally or internationally known. They have her going to or healing after Endbringer fights, because it just makes sense.

It's not canon, sure, but it's a reasonable alteration for a fanfic.

Broadway karkat vol 2 is the FINAL ONE. I was tired at this point for listening to like 5 hours of homestuck parodies so it might not be my most unbiased opinion but this was my least favorite :(

Least painful - I don't know if any super stood out to me. So it's more like an "i didn't hate". I don't hate hey there harely, or either of the won't say I'm in love parodies. Write a letter was good.

Most painful - this is Broadwaystuck was rough 😭. Karkahontas was just wrong...

what other genres would Dave even work with for the retro sci-fi ?

So like honestly? After seeing the SBAHJ retelling of the Picture of Dorian Grey? Genuinely? Surrealist psychological horror. Like in the vein of House of Leaves or Alan Resnik's Unedited Footage of a Bear. Dave Strider as he grows older and doesn't need to hide his political messaging behind 1848385 layers of Irony starts doing psychological horror the likes of which no one has ever seen, in a turn that even leaves long time co-writer and dramaturge Rose blindsided.

But at the same time. It's the one genre Dave avoids like the Plague, when trying to depict the search for his vanished brother. Because as he looks deeper and deeper, he sees some fucked up shit going on with reality in the place where Dirk disappears, and there's only one way a horror story can end.

(And Dirk isn't dead. There was never a body, the audience never sees the killing blow. Therefore Dave reasons, Dirk has to still live. )
