The way the term “kinning” has evolved over time is so fucked up. I miss when people were genuinely 100% of the belief they had the soul of this thing, or were them in a past life, or some other thing that is more serious than “ough i relate heavily”

And i feel like the death of otherkin, fictionkin, and other types of soul kinning corresponds with the rise of DID/dissociative disorder faking on tiktok. Once people realized “oh I can actually /be/ a robot alter in a human body” that became infinitely more popular.

And beyond that, the term has really been watered down by the anime community on tiktok. I miss the days when it was largely a neurodivergent (particularly undiagnosed autistic) community struggling to fit in with neurotypical society and thus believing they must be nonhuman. Heck, I was one of them.

Discussion disclaimer - I know from experience that believing some did/osdd systems are faking it can be pretty upsetting to some people, but after a lot of thought and hearing from both sides my opinion on this is firm. I am not going to fakeclaim anyone because I don’t care that much, but in my own belief, some of yall are going through a phase. And that’s fine! I just hope you don’t give yourself a depersonalization disorder by believing in this so heavily. I’ve had people try to convince me that I am system, and it really fucked with my head until I was able to seperate from those people and realize “oh, i was just compartmentalizing my emotions and certain moods into different ‘characters’ rather than acknowledging them as myself in a different mood.”

Anyway, I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts on the evolution of the term kinning. I find myself nostalgic for the mid-2010s kinning community, both the good and the bad. I remember being introduced to it through the dragonkin jewelry and eggkin breakfast posts, then going down a rabbithole of cringeblogs before starting to see myself in some of the moodboards and hypotheticals people were posting. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Lol I feel like I missed so much of this, probably partly due to my long hiatus from tumblr around the time the kin community was really getting going here, but also partly due to my shitty memory.

I vaguely remember oddnose/buttereggs, but not why those words were a thing. I don't know what wing-growers are at all. Crunchy leaf I might remember? OOT is Ocarina of Time to me. AWTOK gave me a mini heart attack because I parsed it as an alterhuman version of MGTOW for some reason.

today I attended gsa. They asked all of us our preferred pronouns. When I said “egg pronouns”, they all laughed.

How would you feel if I asked your name and laughed? If I looked at your feet at laughed?

My templar Argonian OC from ESO.

His egg was abandoned at a temple for Stendarr in Cyrodil before far before Varen’s Rebellion. Stendarr’s priests, known for their mercy, took him in, hatching and raising him. He was born with luminous scales that shine like opal. Was it a blessing from Stendarr? Maybe. But due to him being born far from the Hist, he lacks the ears to hear it nor understand his eggkins. The imperials, other then the priests, see him as a barbaric savage. Although he is alienated from imperials and other Saxheels, he does not wallow in it nor grow bitter, instead he devotes his life and study to Stendarr, who granted him mercy. He learned the healing arts and set out to share the mercy and love he has been given. However, due to his nativity he falls prey to Mannimarco’s trap and his soul is taken from him. Realizing this made him feel as if his connection to the divine has been severed, the only one he felt could truly understand him. Desperately, he seeks to regain his soul, but along the way he meets new people of all shapes, size, color, views, and learn that maybe he’s not so alone.
