Edward “Cal” Calcifer

New York City, 1920s

Edward was born to one of the oldest American wizard families in New York City. Known most often to people as Calcifer, or sometimes simply Cal as he doesn’t care for his first name. His family has owned and operated a magic shop for both magical and muggle people alike, although the muggles only receive fake products.

Edward showed exceptional talent for magic at a young age as he was bright and gifted. Once he hit adulthood, he decided against taking over the family business and instead had his sights turned elsewhere.

You would find curious things indeed if you were to visit the carousel in Central Park, ride a certain horse, and mutter a certain password. If done correctly, you would find yourself stepping out of the carousel to find a whole new world full of real magic and people beyond imagination. For this was the hidden Circus that Calcifer retreated to most nights.

If you wandered the winding paths in this secret world, you might eventually come to Edwards tent. Here, he showcased his brilliance. Transmutation was his specialty. Whereas muggles in the real world received his trivial “silver to gold” performance, the wizards here were a lot harder to impress. They would receive a performance that would show Edward himself transforming into a large black dog, and then a cawing raven, and then a black cat. For Edward Calcifer had discovered a way to become an animagus and chose his form at will…

I’ve had this boy brewing on the back burner for a few weeks now and was able to introduce him for a long time but always kept forgetting! So here he is!!! He is obviously FB era but he’s special as I’m sort of requesting people to join me? I want to build his circus and I need more people! Already joining him is my minor oc Lindell Xerxes (vampire & seer). She has a son named Zephaniah Xerxes but he’s already grown up and off at the ministry by this time I believe. Anyone is welcome!! Especially those who are fantastical or outcasts. Note: I also don’t know if Cal will be the owner/creator of the circus or just a member. I kind of think the circus would be super old even now and not brand new so.

Second reblog cuz I just remembered that she could interact with a few of my American hpfb OCs! Their stories are more around WW2 but they would still be around in the 20-30s just younger.

I’ve got the two King siblings: Isadora King and Leandros King. They have a tiny apartment in New York where they shelter the homeless or persecuted. They are inspired by the Statue of Liberty motto and also the two lion statues outside the library in New York, Patience and Fortitude. Leandros is patience and he’s very soft and cares for the people and he loves sculpting. Isadora is fortitude and she looks after her brother and keeps their apartment safe. She’s also an Auror. They do a bit more during WW2 as they join forces with some other of my OCs to bring refugees from Europe across to New York.

My second pair is husband and wife Mathias Bane and Marvina Bane. They are the grandparents of my first ever oc Kathryn Alice. One of them is American and the other is British but I still haven’t worked out which one. I’m thinking Marvina is American?? Their whole thing is that they are brilliant and invent spells and magic and later are recruited to help the magical WW2 war to invent weapons 🤡 they are very morally grey although they are not death eaters or believe in it. Also debating having Marvina maybe go into spywork or code breaking?? Mathias is a pilot.

My third and last oc is actually one I’m still working on and haven’t officially introduced yet so it’s all subject to change. However his name is Edward Calcifer and my idea is that he’s in a magical circus and the entrance to their equivalent of diagon alley (where they live and maybe have tents and shows) is in the Carousel in Central Park in New York. Haven’t decided an era but FB would be a vibe.

Della is an American witch, working for the MACUSA during the 1920s and 30s. She investigated Grindlewald's actions during his rise to power. She spent some time undercover as a singer in a speakeasy frequented by Grindlelwald's followers. In Ilvermony, Della was sorted into Thunderbird. She enjoys singing and a stiff drink.

*❆ League of Villains Christmas Movie Headcanons ❆*

The holidays are here at the LOV headquarters! A suspiciously large pre-decorated tree has been acquired (thanks Compress!), all carolers have been scared off (thanks Dabi!), and a fresh batch of cookies just came out of the oven (thanks Kurogiri!)

Unfortunately, everyone wants to watch a different movie and it's caused a massive argument.

Who do you think should win?

When I wrote this post a little while ago and scheduled it, I ended up writing another one based on the intro then accidentally posted it while editing drafts on my phone. Here's the other post that's older/next. There will be one more after this!

Toga votes Nightmare Before Christmas! She's already watched it three times by herself since Halloween, but she'd love to watch with everyone else!

Dabi has never seen a Christmas movie in his life.

Or so he says. Toga disagrees, pointing out that Edward Scissorhands is technically a Christmas movie. He's still claiming it doesn't count and that this will not be the year he changes that.

(It will. They've decided this for him.)

Twice is really pushing for Home Alone. No, Gremlins. Wait, no. Home Alone. Definitely one of those.

Shigaraki wants to watch Terrifyer 3 and simply doesn't understand why no one else wants to watch that. It is too festive. His idea was vetoed first. He's pouting now.

Compress is giving a very compelling argument for It's A Wonderful Life. With lots of very dramatic arm waving. He's almost won over Twice.

100% just looks at you with a frown and asks that

Of course, he starts smiling and chuckles a bit when you get to fussing at him for playing dumb

Though it’s his first instinct to shrug and to ask what worms look like because chances are?

He hasn’t seen one since before he was a part of the Red Dragon syndicate

There you two are- cuddling on the couch and scrolling through a screen that shows nothing but worms ( much to the dismay of Faye who walks in and immediately walks out)

After a while, Spike puts his hand over yours to stop you from scrolling down any further 

Then he looks at you, deep into your eyes as he leans in close, and tells you-

“No. They’re kind of gross looking.”

This time your reaction really gets him laughing- and promising that he’s “just joking, calm down!” and he’ll “keep you in his pocket, he swears!”

Edward Elric

“...is this a riddle?”

That’s all he says after 30 seconds of silence between the two of you

He still doesn’t know what to think or say when you insist that it’s NOT a riddle or a trick and you just want to know

“Okay…how did you turn into a worm though?”

He starts to get flustered as you tell him that the how and why of it all doesn’t matter and that your question still stands

Of course, that only serves to make him more nervous

“But…would I know you before you turned into a worm? Or is this a world where you were always a worm- HEY WAIT DON’T WALK AWAY FROM ME”

You, not wanting to listen to him ramble on and on about a situation he’s overcomplicating all by himself, leave the room

Because he’s Edward Elric (read: overdramatic and loud) ends up throwing his book to the ground and chasing after you, afraid he made you upset

But hey- the image of him shouting apologies and saying “OF COURSE I’D LOVE AS A WORM, WHO WOULDN’T” at the top of his lungs was a nice break for all the other staff at Central Command

“Aww, of course, I would! I’d keep you in my pocket and take you everywhere with me!”

Daichi had seen this trend online a couple of times when messing around on his phone

And while he thought it was a little weird…

…it reminded him a lot about you

Now would he actually love you as a worm?

Nobody knows (yes, ofc he would he’s Daichi)

But of course, he’s gonna do anything to keep you happy! 

You’re his world!

Even if that means talking about how he’s going to build you a big worm terrarium where you can live a life of worm luxury for longer than what should be possible

But he’s the great wizard Howl and he’s gonna find a way to be the most charming individual in the world 

Even while he’s completely clueless

He’ll tell you as he pulls you close and cradles your face in his hands

And when you ask him “Any form?” for reassurance, he’s there to give it to you- ten-fold

“Absolutely any form, my love”

Cue you throwing your arms around him and cuddling up to him in pure happiness

Anyway, this is super weird considering I have a Google Doc with things I want to write for this blog, and this topic has been sitting on that doc for almost as long as I’ve watched the show….

Whatever!

So I had a few theories that I'd thought up while writing the original post as well as for this ask (those theories being calcification, fossilization, alchemy, or just straight-up magic). But as I did some research—primarily on the petrification page on the Dr. Stone Wiki (read at your own risk, there are MAJOR spoilers)—it turns out that there is a lot more to petrification than what I thought.

The first thing I'd like to mention is the chemical makeup of the stone involved with this process. The wiki says that the stone is mostly made up of "iron with trace amounts of gold. The rest is carbon and nitrogen." These two sentences completely destroy at least two of my theories.

Calcification is "a process in which calcium builds up in body tissue, causing the tissue to harden" That's about as simple as I could find, and was an explanation that I actually understood. Even though I was super excited about doing more research about this, turns out it's obsolete, considering the stone is not, in fact, made of ANY CALCIUM.

The other theory that has been destroyed was alchemy. I was super excited for this one cuz I could show off my love of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood... but that doesn't work anymore.

My main line of reasoning for this had to do with Greed's Ultimate Shield and how Edward dismantled it. When Greed shows off his Ultimate Shield to Edward he brags about its strength and Ed figures out that if he rearranges the chemical makeup of the shield—which is made of carbon—he can significantly decrease the strength. Cuz carbon can be as weak as pencil lead or as strong as literal diamonds. So I was like "hey, maybe there's some mass alchemy or something going on that hardens people's bodies into a stonelike substance." But, once again, the makeup of the stone and the human body kind of don't agree with each other. The human body (average height adult male) only has about 4 grams of iron in it. This means that Alchemy is out of the question.

After discounting two of my theories (sorry, I just wanted to share my thoughts, even though they don't really add anything to this post), the only two left are fossilization (again, I know very little) and magic. I'd much prefer science over magic, but at this point, I don't know how easy it's going to be to prove that there is ANY science involved here. Which, honestly, is a bit strange considering the entirety of Dr. Strange (at least season one, which is all I've seen up to this point) is basically a science lesson.

So let's try to prove my last theory (I don't know how well this is going to go). My last resort is fossilization. Apparently, there is a type of fossilization called petrification—which is encouraging. Petrification is a VERY long process that involves lots of decay and minerals sneaking into the body and replacing what was decayed. The fun thing is, most of the time the minerals that decide to infiltrate the body are quartz, calcite, or IRON COMPOUNDS!!!!!!

So either the bodies were fossilized (petrified) at an EXTREMELY high rate, or there's magic involved.

The bigger question is how did this actually happen. Like the process of fossilization (from what I've found) can take from 5,000 to 10,000 years. And in Dr. Stone, it happens in a matter of seconds. Something about this doesn't add up to me...

In Dr. Stone, Senku tries to figure out what the frick happened and has some of his own theories: a virus (not likely), a weapon developed by another country, or aliens. I doubt anyone on earth nowadays—or in 2019—has the technology that would allow them to forcefully petrify everyone on Earth in seconds. So honestly, it's probably aliens (starting to sound like Ryan Bergara here...)
