It's punk to compost, in a world filled with trash.
It's punk to be fat, in a world that wants you to keep getting smaller.
It's punk to ride an old bike, drive an old car, patch your old clothes with different colored thread, cut up old sheets for rags instead of using paper towels, and make stuffed animals out of scrap fabric, in a world that wants you to just "order it off amazon".
It's punk to tend a messy, overgrown, weed-filled garden. Tomatoes grow right next to dandelions.
It's punk to can the veggies from your messy garden and give your neighbors delicious tomato soup in the depths of winter.
It's punk to make a bird feeder and look out the window to take a break from your screen.
It's punk to wear your "Let Trans Kids Play" shirt to a college basketball game where there are no trans players, because a trans kid in the crowd will see it and maybe (this year) decide to join the team.
It's punk to have wrinkles, when the world wants you to stop aging at 23.
It's punk to go to your local library.
It's punk to take your kids to your local library.
It's punk to take your kids to a pride parade, a sit-in, a land-back ceremony, an accessible trunk-or-treat, a soup kitchen.
It's punk to plant trees. It's punk to PROTECT trees.
It's punk save for solar panels, someday.
It's punk to hope, whenever you can.

🚨🚨 DONT SKIP !! Urgent Appeal: Donations Needed Now! Verified✅️
Do you know why we need your support, dear friends?
To save the lives of two children.
To rebuild their shattered lives.
To help them evacuate Gaza if any border opens, where life has become unbearable.
To return them to school and give them the chance to chase their dreams.
These children were not born to endure such suffering.
For over 420 days, we have been searching daily for food and water for them, instead of opportunities for education and growth.
We seek warmth for them in this freezing weather as they take shelter in ruins, after losing their once warm and loving home.
Their home, school, and dreams have been destroyed, yet we still hold onto hope.
Yamen And Boody needs you as we, support is the only hope we have left.

So apparently some of my classmates are preparing a camp revolving around discussing alternative means of education in a classroom--- so here we go! Time to share it some more, because they're working really hard on organising this camp & I would love it if it got some more spotlight here on tumblr :D
I'll copy+paste their text below in case anyone is interested!
----
Are you interested in the science behind learning and how different educational methods are using it in practice? Join the summer camp "Education for Future", where you will learn about and use different unconventional pedagogical methods, such as field investigations, collective learning, critical pedagogy, and more. The camp takes place from the 16th to the 29th of June in Denmark.
If you are a teacher or educator or someone simply interested in the topic, be sure to check out if it's something for you, and if you know someone who might be interested, we'd appreciate it if you could share it with them.

idk i'd never paid much attention to past prologue aside from the opener but it's so fucking funny bc of the context it gives for everything else?? like okay garak cruises julian at the replimat (with unclear success), then gets approached by the sisters and says "shit, i need backup. who can i trust to be chill about black market dealing, yet honest enough to report it if necessary? ah yes the doctor will do nicely" ............aaand then julian flubs it so bad that garak immediately starts a book club called Espionage For Dummies. he says julian you are a baby bird. a tiny kitten. a helpless puppy all alone in a cutthroat world. you must open your eyes and learn to forage or you will never survive the winter and julian says okay 💖 yayy 💖 and by god they hold that book club every fucking tuesday for the next 5 to 7 years? only interrupted when there's an actual war on? the professional outrage was THAT strong

Major Monogram from Phineas and Ferb is a fascinating accidental example of unjust biases stemming from ignorance and laziness instead of intentional harm in the ‘species-ism that is a root of injustice in the PnF universe. In this essay I will

i'm kind of late to this but i just finished reading the scholomance trilogy by naomi novik and i feel like it is such an underrated urban fantasy?? taking the chosen one trope and turning it on its head with a fmc who has been prophesied to bring death and destruction, who is imbued with terrible power, but cannot even properly use said power to solve any of her obstacles because it would obliterate them and her soul. it takes a tired trope and the idea of an 'overpowered mary sue' and throws it back in your face by showing how all the power and destiny in the world is useless against a system filled with corruption that has burdened you with an easy way out (evil/destructive magic) that you can't take so now you have to work twice as hard as everyone else just to do simple, constructive spells instead of flicking your wrist and being done with it.

Mild spoiler for The Last Graduate ahead, but:
Having just reread the whole series, I love how at odds El and the Scholomance are. Like, El's pessimism is a great way of making your narrator unreliable, since El is sometimes right and sometimes wrong always expecting the worst response from everyone around her(a thought worthy of another entire post), but it becomes very funny once she realizes that part of the problem at school is that she can't do small spells? Like, she spends the whole first book being like 'this school is the devil tempting me to evil, it wants me to become a maleficier, I can't even ask for a simple cleaning spell without getting horrible spells for summoning mortal flames and enslaving an army of people, I hate it', and meanwhile the Scholomance is flipping frantically through its catalogue of spells gathered over thousands of years, desperately trying to find a spell in a language El knows that she can also cast with her affinity for working incredibly large and powerful spells. El's over here driving a bulldozer and saying, 'I would like to build a Jenga tower' and the Scholomance is looking at her with the weary despair of a preschool teacher knowing they're going to be suffering through a temper tantrum soon but unable to stop it.
El, a furious teenager who doesn't know as much as she thinks she does: I don't wanna summon a mortal flame! I want my room clean!
The Scholomance, a giant building that cleans its own hallways, floors, dishes and various and assorted other workings with mortal flame: Why is this child testing me
Also hilarious in retrospect is El's blithe statement in the first book about how no one would ever give her that much mana to do these high volume spells bc mana isn't free or easy to acquire and so the school is clearly telling her to turn maleficier and kill her fellow students all while Orion is humming to himself as he kills mals and dumps oodles and oodles of mana into the New York power sharers.
El "I'd rather die than ask for help" Higgins: I won't do these spells bc no one will give me mana
The Scholomance, as loudly as a building who may or may not be partially sentient and who can't speak human languages: Wow, those sure are some HIGH MANA VOLUME spells you got there! If only there was SOMEONE around who would be able to provide you with a NIGH LIMITLESS FLOW OF MANA so that you'd be able to cast them!
Orion: :)
El: *hisses like a feral cat*
Orion: :(
The Scholomance: oh my freaking god
Hilarious. Top tier humor.

upon my rewatch of season 6 of BTVS I gotta be real here. say what you will abt Mayor Wilkins but he would NEVER have left his murder daughter to struggle alone with debts and a sister. he’d be like “sweetie you own real estate that people live in, why are you working a minimum wage job?.. come now I am going to teach you the most useful evil skill you’ll ever learn, it’s called Being a Landlord” and then pay all her bills and make her drink her milk bc calcium is important

The renewable and sustainable wall made of hemp and lime
I've seen a test of this incredible material which was under extreme heat for 4 hours at 650c (1202°F) all without combustion, leaving the other side of the wall almost completely cold and unaffected
What is the secret ingredient missing from "Roman" concrete being so durable and lasting for 1000 years? Hemp. 🤔

I'm still over here dreaming.
Dreaming of making raised garden beds out of reusable pallets (the heat-treated kind) and giving them away.
Dreaming of neighborhood meal-trains for families in need. Just had a baby? Surgery? The loss of a loved one? Your doorstep is now covered in casseroles and cookies. Yes we know you're gluten-intolerant, all the food is safe for you.
Dreaming of having my son's friends over after school and just... letting them be here. Your favorite snacks are in the fridge, your favorite comics are on the shelf, the dogs are so happy to see you. I'm sorry your grandma doesn't understand that you like boys. Your mom's at work still? That's ok, I've got her number, if she has to stay late we're having spaghetti and meatballs for dinner.
Dreaming of every mother attending every trans-child's wedding.
Dreaming of my kiddo growing up and not just LOVING women and girls but RESPECTING them and VALUING them, getting to see other men in his life setting the BEST examples.
Dreaming of parking lots covered in solar panels.
Dreaming of not needing parking lots.
Dreaming of teaching kids about bees.
Dreaming of clean water and air. Dreaming of streets safe for tricycles and dog-walking. Dreaming of fruit trees in neighbors yards, and bringing them pies in the fall.

Apex predator, my ass. I’m going to pet the dog 🐻🐻‍❄️🐼
perhaps now is a good time for some responsible bear programming to remind everyone that as cute and cuddly as they may seem, bears are lethal apex predators and should absolutely be treated accordingly if ever encountered.

A Letter from a Mississippi Graduate: The Superiority of Women is No Secret
Here I am, cap in hand, diploma in the other, and I'm feeling like I've just unlocked a truth the world seems reluctant to admit: here in Mississippi, young women are 52% more likely to have a bachelor's degree than young men. And guess what? I'm one of those women.
Let's get one thing straight as I walk across this stage: this isn't just about passing exams or memorizing textbooks. It's about a fundamental shift where women are not just participating; we're leading. We're not just getting degrees and we're not just showing up; we're taking over. 💪♀️
I've watched the boys struggle, some still lost in the haze of whether to grow up or game on. Meanwhile, we've been here, grinding through coursework, internships, and leadership roles. It's clear as day - women are superior in ambition, in resilience, and in sheer intellectual capacity. 🧠
This isn't just my graduation; it's a statement. We're not here to compete; we're here to dominate. The future? It’s looking pretty female to me. While some might cling to outdated notions of gender roles, we're busy redefining what it means to lead and succeed.
So, to all the future graduates, keep pushing, keep proving, and keep shining. Women are not just the future; we are the now, the architects of change. And to the guys? Maybe it’s time to take notes because we're not just catching up; we're leaving you in the dust.
