Funny: Spike crashing the wedding of a man he neither likes nor respects
Funnier: Xander inviting a man he neither likes nor respects to his wedding
Funniest: Xander inviting a man he neither likes nor respects to his wedding, AND giving him a plus one

upon my rewatch of season 6 of BTVS I gotta be real here. say what you will abt Mayor Wilkins but he would NEVER have left his murder daughter to struggle alone with debts and a sister. he’d be like “sweetie you own real estate that people live in, why are you working a minimum wage job?.. come now I am going to teach you the most useful evil skill you’ll ever learn, it’s called Being a Landlord” and then pay all her bills and make her drink her milk bc calcium is important

once more with feeling is such a devastatingly good episode preceded by such perfect setup, and just the perfect emotional release.
as a musical theatre composer i kinda hate the refrain of "when you can't speak, sing" because i think it's extremely oversimplifying, but i do think the art of the musical allows for glimpses into the confessional and the internal that a lot of performance art just doesn't. and while btvs is usually really good at doing that through the metaphorical, season 6 as a whole focuses on the internal world of the group so strongly, while also having the "big bads" of the season be human. it's a really massive tonal shift, obviously, but it also pushes each of the characters further inside themselves.
so at that point in season 6 where everyone is in a weird repressed emotional state, where communication is at an all-time low and conflict is at an all-time high, completely unaffected by some mystical big-bad, it feels like something needs to come out. and like, literal genius to have it come out during a musical.
also, just structurally it works so well. starting off with going through the motions, about buffy's isolation and depression, leading straight into i've got a theory where the group asserts that there's "nothing we can't do if we're together" immediately introduces a sort of dissonance to the assertion that everyone's together, and the fractures continue throughout the episode. like, the stuff introduced at the top gets properly addressed at the end of the episode (when buffy confesses to having been in heaven, and no one in the group knows what to do with it, followed by buffy getting with spike, taking some control over what she's going through). and similarly, under your spell at the top, and then tara's realization of what willow's done to her. i can't go through every single thing, but it's just such a tight episode that's so strong on it's own while also perfectly tying into stuff that's been set up. (it's also like,,,,, the only proper externalization of xander/anya's relationship worries until hell's bells)
it's also just completely delightful, like it's fun as hell!!! it's funny in all the ways that buffy is, it's heartbreaking in all the ways the show is. it's fun as hell all the way through while also confronting the splintering of that's marked the season. the songs are fun and varied, it's just perfect.
it's a perfect episode of television to me <3 i love it. that's all folks.

I support Willow in her revenge quest because supporting gay rights also means supporting gay wrongs.

I don't know if this was intentional or not, but the paralells between Buffy and Dawn standing up to mr Maclay in Family and Tara standing up to Xander and Anya in Older and Far Away are just...Gaah. Tara is almost directly quoting Buffy, some variation of "if you want her, you got to go trough me." Her pose is the same as Dawn's:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Picture one is Dawn standing with her arms crossed, next to Buffy with her hands on her sides, in the background isWillow and Giles. Picture two is Tara standing, arms crossed, intentionally between Willow and Anya, having placed herself so that Anya has to physically get through Tara to get to Willow. Buffy is placed similarly in the first picture but Tara is outside the shot.)
It's just, it was the first time someone, anyone, stod up to Tara's abusers. It was a type of love she had never been shown before and she mimics it when she has to stand up to someone. It was Buffy and Dawn who taught her how to do that!!! Tara has been formed by the love of all of the scoobies, not just Willow.

I know this prob not what Buffy is gonna choose to end her career search, but I think she would make an excellent paramedic. saving people, strong, does well in high pressure situations. plus paramedics work weird hours so it could mesh well with the slaying

i hate to say it i hope i don’t sound rude but i think maybe buffy summers should stop sleeping with vampires i feel like at this point it could be considered a hazard. like. she let angel hit and his soul literally fell out. he was evil for the whole season. like. he promptly killed several people and then she had to kill him. not good. and now she bangs spike and they take an entire house down. i’m just saying for her personal safety and also for the safety of others it might be in her best interest to. not do that.

I'm actually obsessed with Bargaining, Part Two. Especially upon rewatch. Like, you can see how Buffy and her friends are all on different wavelengths. How they're trying to communicate, to help each other, but just end up saying exactly the wrong things.
At the end of the episode Dawn hugs Buffy, saying "You're home. You're home." And Buffy's stare goes dead upon realizing that yeah, she's home.
