I was tagged by @ecouter-bien to list 5 songs I’ve been listening to lately. Let’s make it 10 just because I want to do that.
Eat Your Young - Hozier
Burning - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Way - Manchester Orchestra
Bloody Sunrise - Neil Gaiman & FourPlay String Quartet
It’s Alive! - Teenage Disaster
Welcome to My House - Yonaka
Your Mind Is Not Your Friend - The National
After Midnight (feat. Clairo) - Phoenix
Where the Nekkos Roam (Star Wars Jedi: Survivor soundtrack) - Stephen Barton & Gordy Haab
Ebon Flow (feat. Joywave, from Sounds from the Galactic Skylanes/Star Wars Jedi: Survivor) - Yubnib Zekk and the Main Characters
The hardest thing of all in this list was narrowing it down to only one track from the Survivor soundtrack. Really it could have been any number of tracks like “Dark Times,” “Beneath the Cantina,” “Desert Ruins,” “Fields of Dusk,” “Flight,” “A Step Too Far,” “Siege,” “The Visitor,” “Rage,” “Cold Dawn,” or so many others. Sounds from the Galactic Skylanes is this interesting supplemental soundtrack of in-world music during the game, mainly featured in Greez’s cantina.
Consider yourself tagged if you’re reading this and wish to be tagged.

3. What is your favorite genre?
Traditionally fantasy. It is my staple genre! Lately tho I've been wanting to try out other stuff and not veering as much toward it. The one I seem to enjoy the most right now is historical fiction, particularly if it has some like folk lore/magical realism/mythology events. Essentially historical fiction/fantasy 😆 The Witch's Heart, Lavinia, Circe, She Who Became the Sun, and even Finn Mac Cool come to mind!
6. What books have you read in the last mont?
I'm going to go with this asking about May since that's the previous month to now 😅
Slaughterhouse Five — Kurt Vonnegut
Revolting Prostitutes: The Fight for Sex Workers' Rights
The Woman in White — Wilke Collins
King of Battle and Blood — Scarlett St Clair
12. Did you enjoy any compulsory high school readings?
Nothing especially stands out. I liked elementary/middle school required reading and a lot of my college required reading, but high school was a bit more of a dud. I do think I remember enjoying Antigone tho I recall very little of the story. I remember having to read the Great Gatsby and The Oxbow Incident and absolutely not enjoying those.
17. Top 5 Children's Books?
I'm going to go with middle school books because I don't really remember many children's books.
The Folk Keeper
His Dark Materials (cheating having all 3 here but so be it!!)
Coraline
Holes
The Girl Who Owned a City

omg DOOOOO IIITTTTTTT!!! that sounds amazing!!
for context: the song is from a concept album about a little rural town the singer grew up in and all the positives and also dark sides of that - including how suffocating religion can be. the song i quoted is a closeted gay kid contemplating suicide and thinking about the rodeo in town and (i think) drawing a parallel between suicide and the bull drawing blood as a similar kind of sacrifice to a cruel god. it’s so bleak, i love it 😂
My brain hasn't had energy or focus to write anything, much less original fiction, lol. But I am hoping to keep the idea bouncing around to see what happens. I also should listen to the song and album, cuz it sounds interesting, and cuz it might help the writing inspiration.

i told you you guys would be ok after track & field started 🤓😂
Oh yeah, I wasn’t actually worried about our medal count, I knew there was a lot left to go. I was mostly concerned with the swimming rivalry and how our men in particular were not doing so well, but we managed to miraculously pull ahead of you by one in that, so that felt good 😉
#in spite of our men underperforming across the board…only one individual gold from them was extremely tough to see#now swimming is done so there’s only gymnastics left that I care deeply about#once that’s over I’ll try to catch some other random things but honestly don’t care much for track 😂#Olympics#Paris 2024#asks#ecouter bien

A song for every letter of my url, thanks for tagging me @ecouter-bien!
Q - Qui-Gon's Noble End - John Williams
U - Union House Branch - Alison Krauss & Union Station
I - Intergalactic - Beastie Boys
P - Pot Kettle Black - Tilly and the Wall
X - Xtralovable - Prince (literally the only song with a title beginning with X that I have)
O - Oceanographer's Choice - The Mountain Goats
T - Take Care of Business - Nina Simone
I - I Cannot Escape the Darkness - Those Poor Bastards

This has got to be one of the weirdest series of songs I've every pulled together. But hey, I did it even with the lesser used letters in my name. Have at it if you're interested in trying it yourself.

⚜ Le Sacre de Napoléon V | N°17 | Francesim, Paris, 29 Thermidor An 230
After midnight, Louis and Charlotte returned to their flats and celebrated the coronation day in private. However, despite the celebrations, Charlotte could not stop thinking about her husband's departure. She would like him to stay with her for the next few months. To reassure her, Louis promises to consult his advisers once more.
Beginning ▬ Previous ▬ Next
(Napoléon) Tu as réponse à tout (Charlotte) Et toi, tu me fatigues (Napoléon) Attends !
On a assez attendu

Have to - present impersonal verb falloir + infinitive or que + subjunctive (il faut que tu partes - it is necessary that you leave)
Must - present devoir (tu dois partir - you must leave)
Ought to - present conditional impersonal verb falloir + infinitive or que + subjunctive (Il faudrait que tu partes - You ought to leave)
Shall/Will - simple future second verb (tu partiras ce soir - you will leave tonight)
Should - present conditional devoir (tu devrais partir - you should leave)
Would - present conditional second verb(j'aimerais partir - I would like to leave)
*this verb typically means being able to: "I can't speak French" would be translated as "I don't speak French" or "I don't know how to speak French", using pouvoir means you are physically unable to do so ie I can't run because my leg is broken.
While auxiliary verbs are the first half of compound tenses and moods, semi-auxiliary verbs are used with another verb left in the present infinitive form to express an influence of their meaning, tense, mood, or aspect - some are the equivalent of modal verbs, others are simply verbs of perception. When not followed by an infinitive verb, those are not considered semi-auxiliary anymore.
Stative verbs (to be, to remain, to feel) express a state rather than an action. They usually relate to thoughts, emotions, relationships, senses, states of being and measurements and cannot be used as the introduction of a gerund (je rentre en marchant but je suis en marchant*).
Impersonal verbs can only be conjugated in the masculine form of the third person singular: il doesn't refer to a person (il pleut - it's raining).
Movie: Les 400 coups - François Truffaut, 1959
Fanmail - masterlist (2016-) - archives - hire me - reviews (2020-) - Drive
