"Oh, right, how could I forget my favourite teddy bear and drumming monkey! They were thank-you gifts I received for helping a toy store owner move his storage all day!"
She wished she could play a duet with the monkey so i repaired it for her 🎷🫂🐒 her design is very dainty, the harsh contrast is great, i feel like she's a very well constructed character.

When you get to that part of the peoples song and you have to go:
Do you hear the people sing
Singing the song of angry men
It is the music of a people who will
noT
Be slaves again
Emphasis on the T guys, emphasis on the T

The thing about Chopper's "every disease has a cure!" thing is that he says it while waving Hirulik's flag, his skull and crossbones that he flew as a threat display towards illness. Chopper's goal isn't tangible or grounded, it's the exact same desperate, wild declaration against sickness that he learned from his father, who himself almost died of disease but didn't and was thus shaped by that experience ever after.
In Kureha we see that it's not true that everything can be cured. Hirulik was a quack without real medical training, and Kureha is a deeply experienced genius. Their differences in that matter are presented clearly. She never cedes the point that that the idea everything can be cured isn't true. But she stops actively refuting it, because she sees what it is to Chopper. Not even an idea, but simply an insane determination to never back down from attempting to help people, voiced in the same words as his late dad.
It's more important to her that Chopper actually does dutifully work towards having real knowledge and skill, in a way Hirulik didn't. He's not being irresponsible, he's not pursuing his war on disease by recklessly experimenting cures on people, he does it scientifically and methodically. But behind it, never lost, is that same feral scream against death and for those it takes too early.

Hear the Echo of Your Drums (Chapter 2: If Not Now...)
Chapter Summary: It's the morning after Kirsten tried to be reasonable, mature, and wise. And she is pretty certain she won't do that ever again because the uncertainty of what's to come kept her from sleeping most of the night. Poor wise things and their self-inflicted hurt.
>>>
Kirsten steps out of a shower that could have steamed a lobster, shaking the water from her hair before drying herself with one the new soft Turkish Hammam towels she treated herself to. “You’ve clearly reached adulthood once you rejoice in a new set of towels,” her mom had remarked when Kirsten had excitedly shared her most recent purchase.
She wraps herself in the soft material, smiling at the feel against her skin, reminiscing about the previous night when Amy’s touch had elicited a similar reaction.
Leaning on the sink, she looks at herself in the mirror, studying her face, her skin, her eyes. Does she look any different? She certainly feels different after last night.
It was the first time she had said no to someone she so desperately wanted to be close to. She couldn’t recall a single moment in her past when that thought would have even crossed her mind. Staring at herself, Kirsten questions her sanity once more, fully aware that she has only herself to blame if she is never to feel Amy Silva’s lips against her skin again.
Amy Silva. Kirsten’s heart starts beating fast at the memory of her hands and lips all over her, the intensity of her kisses, her tongue running along her neck. “I think this was my baptism by fire into adulthood, mom,” she says out loud into the bathroom, turning to open the door.
She welcomes the fresh air cooling down her skin from a heat that results not only from the steam in the bathroom. Enjoying the breeze from the open window in the living room, she wonders if today will warm her heart or provide her with a cool, proverbial shower. There is no telling how Amy will respond to her once they meet. Will Amy bring her a coffee after all and allow them both to take the next step, or will she remain aloof and distant, simply the DCI everyone else thinks she is? Kirsten just can’t guess, but her stomach hurts at the thought of Amy’s walls coming back up. And as much as she would like to pretend she can handle it, Kirsten knows that this would be the first heartbreak of her life.
Standing in the middle of the living room, Kirsten sighs as she lets the cool air calm her nerves, wondering if she might have time for a short meditation session before heading to work. If she ever needed one, it was today. She feels sick to her stomach. No way she will have any breakfast today. And she knows that this is not a consequence of last night’s wine.
Kirsten struggled to fall asleep all night, going through all the possible scenarios of how today might unfold and how she could have done things differently last night. But no matter how she looked at it, she simply didn’t want her first night with Amy Silva to be a drunken mistake or a blurred memory for either of them. Tossing and turning the whole night, Kirsten finally ended up admitting to herself that she had fallen head over heels for Amy Silva. While before she was able to convince herself that this was just a crush like any other, the events of last night had proved effectively that she’d been fooling herself.
