Bashi-bazouks before a Gateway by Paul Joanowits
Bashi-bazouks were irregulars in the Ottoman army and hailed from lands across the Ottoman empire, from Egypt to the Balkans. The two soldiers converse in an Egyptian setting, the gate topped by Mamluk carvings and flanked by East African 'Grandees' chairs', amalgams of Mamluk, Portuguese, and Indian influence.

Ancestor (Paranthropus boisei)
Paranthropus boisei was an early hominid species from 2.5–1.15 million years ago, living among the wetlands and lakes of the East African Rift System. The skull "Zinj" or "the Nutcracker Man" was discovered in 1959 in the now-arid Olduvai Gorge.

This group sells prints of donated art to raise funds for Sudan + other causes! (Open submissions)
40% of sales are donated to the respective cause, 30% are given to the artist, and 30% goes into overhead. They’re 0-profit so once they reach the amount they need to run their initiatives they donate their 30% percent as well, and artists have the option to donate their portion. -For artists interested in donating their work:
-For those looking to grab a print:

In my au Stanley (narrow gauge) has a special interest in insects (I hc him as being into animals, they don’t judge you for your “jinx” and he’s got a soft spot for critters that are seen as “bad luck”) and tends to blurt out the most detailed information, he often info-dumps with and to Nia who encourages it cause it makes him happy once he’s freed from his “jinx” and she know every single insect name alphabetically along with their scientific names and nicknames Here we have Duke immediately regretting asking them if they can name every single species and ends up sleeping when they’re engrossed in their conversation before leaving when they were in the mid section of the e category (Nia gave him “the disappointment older sister look” awhile back so the poor guy can trapped there and wondered how did he got ever himself into this situation)
Basically it’s just Stanley to Duke in alphabetical order: Alderflies Angel Insects Anoplura (Sucking lice) Ants Antlions Aphids Archeognatha (Bristletails) Barklice Bees Beetles Bird lice Biting lice Blattodea (Cockroaches) Booklice Bristletails Bugs Butterflies Caddisflies Chewing lice Cicadas Cockroaches Coleoptera (Beetles) Collembola (Springtails) Crickets Damselflies Diplura Diptera (Flies) Dobsonflies Dragonflies-
Nia joining in cause she was mad at Duke: ah yes the alderfly which are megalopteran insects of the family Sialidae. They are closely related to the dobsonflies and fishflies as well as to the prehistoric Euchauliodidae. All living alderflies – about 66 species all together are part of the subfamily Sialinae, which contains nine extant genera. Sialinae have a body length of less than 25 mm (1 inch), long filamentous antennae, and four large dark wings of which the anterior pair is slightly longer than the posterior. They lack ocelli and their fourth tarsal segment is dilated and deeply bilobed. Dead alderfly larvae are used as bait in fishing-

Some problems of Neo-kemetists in Egypt
Egypt like I said many times before used to have its own distinct culture, but after a series of invasions like the Arab Islamic conquest, huge aspects of Egyptian culture faded away until Egyptians as a whole have become Arabized.
This situation has remained up until recently, when a lot of mostly young Egyptians started a movement which I like to call “Neo-Kemetism” where the main purpose is to revive Egypt’s indigenous culture.
However, recently there has been mostly a wave of racism towards other people in the MENA region by a not small portion of those nationalists. Whether racism towards Arabs, or Sudanese people or people from the Levant region.
Now of course, I am not claiming to be perfect or that I would never do that as well. I am sure if you scroll down for a bit, you might find some stuff of that sort. However, eventually you realize that this is really not the way of reviving Egyptian culture.
Sure, there are lots of negative aspects of cultures that do deserve to be called out, especially tribal Arab traditions which involve sexism, religious fundamentalism and marital violence to name a few.
However, they do not engage in such actions BECAUSE they are tribal Arabs. In other words, it is not imbedded in their genes and these cultural issues can be solved with enough education (hopefully).
It is tragic how Egypt lost its own culture, but to blame others for every single problem occurring, that, in my opinion, is a weak man’s game. We need to look at ourselves in the mirror and admit that we too play a role in worsening the situation even more when we are racists and hate-fueled towards people who had nothing to do with what happened 1400 years ago.

Imagine being rich and paying for bland minimalist textiles and cold sterilized homes when you could be paying folk artists handsomely for handcrafted beauty and color —helping preserve honestly quite priceless artistic traditions and supporting the people who keep these legacies alive— instead.

this drawing of Ragsat Al ‘Aroos, or the Sudanese bridal dance, was made in collaboration with awladalneel for their fundraiser for their work and the sudan solidarity collective. prints are available with proceeds to the same.
The ritual dates back to the Kingdom of Kush, where the dance was performed by couples during wedding ceremonies as an ode to the fertility god and to highlight the brides’ beauty. Until recently it was performed topless with a stringed skirt (rahat) pulled undone during the dance. Today, some choose to continue the tradition, reshaping the ritual to meet religious, familial, or personal preferences. Brides prepare intensively with a teacher (ragasa) and perform after the ceremony (jirtig). The bride begins in a thoob and groom in a jalabiya, and during the dance her belt is cut and thrown to the audience. The specifics of the dance, as well as the wedding week, vary widely across tribes, communities, and regions (it is most common in the north). The dance, and the African history it embodies, has survived and adapted to Arab, Egyptian, Ottoman, and British rule, and today through the struggle for freedom & peace in contemporary Sudan.

'The Acolyte' is Exactly What 'Star Wars' Needed
Before The Rise of Skywalker at the tail end 2019, I was a big Star Wars fan. The release of the singularly subpar final chapter of the Sequel Trilogy had me distraught about the franchise, severely dampening my fandom. The recidivism of Episode IX had me believe that there was no true moving forward. We would be destined to remain in the strict boundaries of Jedi vs. Sith without a critical…
