First Art Piece
I decided to sketch this real quick (Took me maybe like 30 minutes to an hour (Wasn't keeping track))
It was inspired by @soufhani who told me to draw "Birds, lots of different birds"
I think I'm gonna make two more art pieces based on this comment, because this is only truly one bird, so I obviously need more birds
Anyways this is my random thing based on the imagery of the phrase "Isle of Flightless Birds" which is one of my favorite Twenty One Pilots song (I have lots of favorites by them)
Enjoy the piece!

Weekly Shanhaijing 6 - Joint-Wing Birds ( 比翼鸟 )
This is sort of a continuation to the previous Weekly SHJ. As in 1) the passage below directly follows the one from last week, and 2) I’ve created something of a narrative thread between the instalments.
比翼鸟在其东,其为鸟青、赤,两鸟比翼。一曰在南山东。
The joint-winged birds are to the east. They are blue-green and crimson, and two birds fly on shared wings. It is said they are to the east of South Mountain.
-From the Classic of Southern Lands Beyond the Seas ( 海外南经 )
Red bird,
be my wing.
I cannot be whole
without it.
Green bird,
stay beside me.
Take me across the mountains.
I don’t know what we’ll find
across the ridge,
but just the feeling
of flight on joined wings
the sky above and mountains below
is enough.
Translation
“…to the east.” - I know I just translated “其[direction]” as “to its [direction]” in the last post, but in retrospect, “to the [direction]” would make it work better, both as a standalone excerpt and in the context of the work as a whole.
“..blue-green…” - “青” is honestly one of the most difficult concepts to translate. It’s not just a single colour, but a whole spectrum, from bright green to intense blue. “Blue-green” has become my go-to translation for the word.
“…and two birds fly on shared wings.” - The word “比” in this context is difficult to explain; it’s something like “put them together,” “put them side-by-side.”A more literal translation would be “two birds put wings together.” I decided against that because it felt too vague. Went for something that would paint a clearer image instead, while still trying to keep the economy of the language.
Art
While the text just refers to these guys as “birds,” I’ve always imagined them as looking like waterfowl of some sort, particularly ducks or herons ( the former was probably because I’d been subconsciously influenced by the symbolism of mandarin ducks in Chinese culture ). I decided to combine the characteristics of the two types of bird and sprinkle in my usual funky patterns.
The blue-green bird’s design was also partly drawn from a description of the joint-wing birds from a later chapter, the Classic of the Great Western Wilderness ( 大荒西经 ):
有比翼之鸟。有白鸟青翼,黄尾,玄喙。
There are birds of conjoined wings. There are white birds with blue-green wings, yellow tails, dark beaks.
Writing
I imagined a sort of rhythm throughout the poem. I guess this could be considered a reverse tone poem- the music came first, the words settled into the beat later.
It may not seem like it, but I swear there’s a connection between this and the previous instalment ( apart from the little cameo of the snake-fish ). It’s that feeling of discovery, of exploration.
Speaking of the snake-fish, we’ll see more of them in the next instalment. Stay tuned!

Week 6
Saw a lot of grebes on my dash so decided to draw the only grebe species I've ever seen IRL during migration: the horned grebe.
Finally tried out overlaying a texture for the first time.

Guess the sky is blue today.
This week brought a glimpse of warm weather. Aand it’s cold again. >_<
Oh well. The art pieces finished this week are also some degrees of cool.
The above is the kind of stuff I’ve seen in those 3D ish escape games I played on my phone and blazed through like a bunch of books and manga. Other than that.... I don’t know why a wooden, wingless bird with pinwheels on top of it popped into my head. The shape was so CLEAR. But when I think about it more, it could have been inspired by a wooden bowl I noticed while online shopping.
The patterns were a fun touch that I didn’t plan out. All I knew was that I was gonna make the inner parts of the pinwheel a little bit extra-extra and allocated some colors to use.
--
P.S. For screenless tablets, check if your aspect ratio matches that of your monitor. If it doesn’t, make the proper adjustments. Don’t be like me and notice it much much later. TTwTT

A/N: DON'T WORRY!! I TOTALLY GET YOU!! 🤭 I'M OBSESSED WITH THOSE CUTE BENTO BOXES!! HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS!! 🫶💖
Aventurine was no stranger to indulgence. Life was a gamble, and he played it with style and cunning, always chasing the next high-stakes thrill. Yet, as he strolled into his office at the IPC’s Strategic Investment Department, today’s highlight wasn’t a lucrative deal or a cunning scheme—it was the bento box you had lovingly prepared for him.
You’d been up since dawn, crafting an intricate lunch. Inside the box were bite-sized sandwiches shaped like playing cards, each adorned with edible glitter and tiny suit symbols cut from vegetables. A roulette wheel of fruits sat in the center, with a gold-painted chocolate coin at its hub.
When Aventurine opened the box, his eyes lit up. "My, my," he murmured, admiring the effort. “You’ve truly outdone yourself, darling. How am I supposed to focus on work after such a masterpiece?”
He loved how you infused warmth into his otherwise calculated world. It wasn’t just the food but the care and thought you put into every detail. Every Friday, you insisted on a picnic, dragging him away from the chaos of his work.
Today, you’d set up a cozy spread under the shade of a towering tree. You crocheted a new blanket for the occasion, its patterns inspired by roulette wheels and peacock feathers—a nod to his unique style. Aventurine leaned back, his hat tilted over his eyes, a rare moment of vulnerability.
“You spoil me.” he said, watching you unpack.
“That’s the idea.” you teased, placing a cookie in his hand.
Aventurine smirked. For all his charisma and confidence, he found himself marveling at how you could make even a gambler like him feel safe, cherished, and loved.
Ratio had always prided himself on precision, intellect, and order. Yet, as he peered into the meticulously crafted bento box you had left on his desk, he couldn’t help but smile. The rice was shaped into an owl, its wings made from thinly sliced seaweed. Around it, neatly arranged vegetables and protein formed an edible diorama of his Intelligentsia Guild office.
When you greeted him later that evening, Ratio’s tone was teasing but fond. “Do you think a brilliant mind like mine requires sustenance shaped like birds to function?”
“Maybe not,” you replied, grinning. “But even geniuses deserve to feel loved.”
Ratio adjusted his glasses, feigning exasperation, but the warmth in his eyes betrayed him. Your weekly picnics were another tradition he secretly adored. He admired your crocheted blankets and little crafts, treasures you’d offer him with shy excitement.
Today’s picnic was at a quiet park, where you’d prepared another feast. As he lay beside you, Ratio spoke softly, breaking the silence. “You know,” he began, his tone uncharacteristically gentle, “you’ve done what even the greatest minds of the Guild could not—bring balance to my chaotic thoughts.”
Jing Yuan, the so-called "Dozing General," had a knack for finding peace amid the chaos of his duties. But nothing soothed him more than the love you poured into his bento boxes.
The moment he opened today’s lunch, a fond chuckle escaped his lips. A lion cub, shaped from rice and adorned with omelet details, stared back at him. Around it, a battlefield of sausages and broccoli seemed to depict one of his strategic victories.
When you picked him up for your weekly picnic, his eyes softened as he took in the sight of you carrying yet another crocheted blanket. This time, it bore a swirling pattern inspired by the Cloud Knights’ insignia.
You spread the blanket under the cherry blossoms, unpacking the food with care. Jing Yuan leaned back, his long hair catching the sunlight. “You’ve truly turned even a General’s life into a dream.” he murmured.
“Good,” you replied, nudging him. “Because you deserve every bit of it.”
Jiaoqiu couldn’t see your creations, but he could feel the care in every bite. Despite his blindness, he often remarked how your lunches seemed to brighten his world.
Today’s bento box was no exception. You’d spent hours crafting it—a flower garden of colorful ingredients, each carefully arranged. When Jiaoqiu ran his fingers over the edge of the box, he smiled.
“I can tell you woke up early for this.” he teased, his voice warm and melodic.
“Of course,” you said, guiding his hands to the first bite. “I want you to feel loved, even when I’m not there.”
Your weekly picnics were his favorite. Though he couldn’t see the landscapes, you described every detail—the way the sun dappled through the leaves, the soft hues of the sky. He sat beside you, tail swishing contentedly as you crocheted a new blanket.
“Another masterpiece?” he asked, running his fingers over the textured yarn.
You smiled. “I made it with you in mind.”
Jiaoqiu tilted his head, his golden irises sharp even as he kept his eyes closed. “And I carry it with me, just as I carry your love.”

Being friends with them!!
a/n : just some friendly hang out sessions with the great spider four >_<★!!
☆☆☆
Characters : Miles Morales / Gwen Stacy / Pavitr Prabhakar / Hobie Brown
content : headcanon / fluff / platonic / pure silliness
☆☆☆
Miles Morales!! (Small Ganke mention!!)
☆ study sessions with these two ofcourse
☆ ^and by study sessions I mean Miles is doing work and Ganke's been done and has been playing videos games since you came over to their dorm
☆ Miles asks for help with English, and you ask for help with whatever you're missing
☆ if not study sesh, then definitely out and about spray painting a new wall
☆ ^I can imagine late night talks with him after he's finished a piece are very heart to heart, he loves to speak his mind to you and hopes you do aswell
☆ I can imagine you meeting his parents are a little nerve wracking since he's mentioned that they didn't like ganke or Gwen
☆ so you tried to be as respectful and kind to them as you possibly could (probably also kissing up to them idk I would too)
☆ if you also do art, you guys compare drawings and give eachother advice on what you need to work on
☆ ^definitely the type to steal your notes and draw in them during class
☆ ^will also steal said notes for a week and forger he has them till your banging on his door in the middle of the night before your assignments due and those notes are very much important to you
Gwen stacy!!
☆ it took a long time for her to actually consider you a friend, a lot of the time you just stayed following her and talking
☆ ^anything you said in those few months prior to her considering you a friend, went through one ear and out the other
☆ She's definitely a teaser, making fun of you in a friendly manner
☆ movie night, or weekly sleepovers at one another's house is a must with her
☆ ^she says she's into horror/action but is really into romcoms, she won't admit that outloud though
☆ I feel like she's really bad at cooking so teaching her how better her cooking skills has definitely happened once or twice
☆ ^she loves when you make her lunches, she usually buys you lunch for the next two days in return
☆ when she's playing the drums you usually sit right outside her window with headphones because she's likes to have her room shut off
☆ ^but she still wants to hang out so she makes you wait outside for about an hour till she's done and has you back inside for dinner
Pavitr Prabhakar!!
☆ Study sessions pt2!
☆ he's a straight A, top of the class student. He doesn't really need to do homework because he does it in class
☆ he does help you with yours though, especially if you're failing
☆ early morning walks, he's an early bird and makes you walk with him because "It's good for the mind!"
☆ if you're not an earlybird, you're grumbling the entire walk about how it's a "weekend" and how "you do this everyday pavitr" and how "you need to stop making me do this"
☆ he doesn't understand whatever you're trying to say and pushes you lightly the rest of the walk (that last part definitelywasnt written by pavitr, no definitely not)
☆ he loves to rant about his girlfriend, talking about how they sneaked out and went on a late night walk that week
☆ if you have an s/o you're definitely talking about them with pavitr, telling him all about them
☆ he's definitely a dog person, he always has a dog following him no matter what
☆ you guys are walking to school? There's a dog right behind you. Hanging out at his house? There's a dog right outside his bedroom window. LITERALLY IN SCHOOL?? A DOG HAS WALKED IN DURING THE MIDDLE OF CLASS AND SAT DOWN NEXT TO HIM WHILE THE TEACHER WAS AWAY
☆ ^everyone think he just has some sort of dog treats on him always but it's really from just recognizing his face from him always feeding them, such a sweetheart
Hobie Brown!!
☆ draws on your hand a lot
☆ ^you always have faded sharpie on you no matter what because of him
☆ you tease him for his accent constantly, saying "pip pip cheerio," or "ello luv." In the most horrible accent ever
☆ You have to go to protests or big government events with him, whether you're political or not he's dragging you along
☆ Always has little trinkets for you everytime you hang out
☆ hang outs in an abandoned building are a daily thing
☆ ^he's probably made you carry a big couch for him to put in a new hang out spot because he said he "knew a place."
☆ he did infact know a place
☆ the playlist guy, he's the one with fire songs to hype everyone up at rallies/protests
☆ knows how to design, outfits, or banners whatever. He knows how to do it right
☆ you'll always have heart to heart conversations with him, early in the morning, mid-day, or late at night
☆ if you ever bring up the topic, "you think we're friends in another universe?" He just looks at you and nods (I've mentioned this before in my hobie hcs)

Weekly Shanhaijing 2 - Yóng ( 颙 )
Author’s notes under cut.
又东四百里,曰令丘之山,无草木,多火。其南有谷焉,曰中谷,条风自是出。有鸟焉,其状如枭,人面四目而有耳,其名曰颙,其鸣自号也,见则天下大旱。
Four hundred li to the east is [a place] called Lìngqiū mountain. It has no grass or trees and much fire. To the south of it is a valley called the Middle Valley, from whence tendrils of wind flow out. There is a bird whose appearance is like an owl’s, human-faced, four-eyed, and with ears. Its name is Yóng, and it calls its own name.
-From the Classic of Southern Mountains ( 南山经 )
I wandered to a far mountain
where no tree was to be seen
but fires blazed through night and day
and winds whistled through the ravines
There lived a creature in these parts,
making its nest amidst the gale’s howl
Though its face beguiled, its eyes burned bright
and its body was that of an owl’s
And high above this cursèd place
it sang its dissonant song
It rings in my ears yet-
“Yong! Yong! Yong!”
A/N: This week’s one came a bit late, sorry about that! I had a lot on my plate.
It’s complete coincidence that this week’s installment is a bird from the Southern Mountains like last week’s. While I was thinking of what to feature this week, I was reminded of the yóng and wasn’t paying attention to details like that.
Translation
“…the Middle Valley.” - Decided to use the literal translation of the name as opposed to “Zhōng Valley” since it felt more appropriate.
“…tendrils of wind…” - The word “条” is a measure word generally used for things that are long, in strands, etc. This was my best attempt at trying to capture that image in English.
“…it calls its own name.” - “号” means “marker” or something along those lines. An indicator of identity. A more literal translation would be “its call marks/signifies itself,” but I went with “it calls its own name” because that conveys the idea better, in my opinion.
Art
When I picked out this creature, I knew I had to include the description of the area along with it. The image of this eerily human-faced bird of prey framed by fire and smoke drifting in the wind was just too dramatic to not draw. It’s also quite a hyperbolic way to express the creature’s significance as an omen of drought.
There’s more to it than that. The word for “owl” used here ( 枭, xiāo ) is an onomatopoiea of the word for “reduce” ( 消, same pinyin ), also a component of words like “annihilate” ( 消灭, xiāomiè ) and “disappear” ( 消失, xiāoshī ). Fitting for a scene like this, isn’t it?
As for the owl itself, it’s modelled off an Eurasian eagle owl. I considered a barn owl due to its ( somewhat ) human-looking face, but decided that would be too obvious. I ended up choosing the Eurasian eagle owl due to various other reasons: the mention of the “ears” in the text; the large, powerful appearance; and the fact it can be spotted in the real-world equivalent of its range, down in South China.
Caption
I was at a loss for the caption at first, but then, for whatever reason, I suddenly thought of Shelley’s Ozymandias and various Edgar Allan Poe poems. Hence… this. It’s not meant to be good or anything, if anything, it’s supposed to be kind of cheesy ( as a lot of old poetry tends to be ).
