And at different times they each pretend to be the boyfriend of their female friend who is planning the secret wedding. The female friend who happens to be secretly (or not, who knows) dating Boss' older brother.

Alls well that ends well...Tob's parents accept the relationship and Tob and Boss get married.

This was how most of their phone calls started.

Not even a full month had passed since Ai had left to continue his studies in another country and Songkhram already missed him more than anything.

It had been strange to continue his day to day knowing that he wouldn't be able to see Ai everyday in person but those phone calls helped a bit.

Songkhram helped Ai's mother, went out with their friends, studied hard and did as many things he could that would distract him from the missing piece of his life but sometimes he just found himself in bed thinking of Ai and wanting the other boy to be there beside him.

It was also hard for Ai, he was happy to be given this opportunity(with both his mother and Songkhram being their biggest encouragers to do it) but it was hard to be in a whole new country and not knowing anyone but most of all to not have Songkhram there with him.

Ai would have never believed that Songkhram would steal his heart one day and be this big piece of his life but god, did he love the other boy and miss him so much.

Both of them couldn't wait for the day they could hug and kiss each other again but for now they were happy to call each other and tell the other how much they missed and loved them.

2024-06-13: MEMS-9/Kotch (Medium Density, Middle Class)

Kotch is an oddball among the other MEMS because of how it is segregated like an old plantation as well as being the shortest MEMS in the city. A gated community for mid-level corporate employees and upper middle class people is found at Hadrian Estates. Although the mean income of Kotch as a whole is classified as is middle class, the income distribution is highly polarized at the extremes, with almost no middle class households existing outside of those in Hadrian Estates. The district is situated in the center of the MEMS and eschews the traditional street grid in favor of a tangled warren of 3-story row houses. The neighborhood contained 265 units originally, but several units have been modified into duplexes while others have been converted into shops and restaurants.

Financial District

The southwest area comprising a rough L-shape between the general housing projects and Hadrian estates is the bustling financial district that specializes in arbitrage and derivative securities. Fortunes are made and destroyed in nanoseconds, and the stress of the jobs here quickly chews up all those who participate. But there's always an influx of poor souls who think they can beat the market and are ready to fill any vacancy in hopes of making it big.

Concierge District/Servant's Quarter.

Nestled in an amorphous blob in the northwestern area of the MEMS is the concierge district, also known colloquially as the Servant's Quarter. The wealthy residents of Kotch are too busy (or lazy) to do many things, so businesses sprang up to meet the demand. Anything can be arranged for the right price, and the businesses here offer professional and discreet fulfillment of requests. Many of the workers, though, are immigrants pressured into the role because it's the only job they can get. There are a few more "ethical" or traditional businesses that cater to things like housekeeping and delivery, but the market is saturated and successful workers in those fields jealously guard their clientele.

Ongoing Issue - The Overleveraged

Many make a fortune in the financial district, but far more end up losing it all. The men (and they are almost always men) are abrasive, demeaning, and cruel to those who they believe to be economically beneath them. Such behavior was only tolerated in the workplace because of the amount of money they brought their employers, and it was tolerated by the underclass forced to do degrading things because the money the rich paid to abuse the vulnerable was often the only thing keeping people alive that week.

But when the money ran out for those ultra wealthy from a string of bad deals and the men lost their homes from taking on too much debt, they end up shunned by all levels of society. Not even the concierge district is willing to extend employment to them, because the workers in concierge district keep tabs on who they don't like and work together in lockstep to keep the overleveraged miserable and out of work. Most people who find themselves in the overleveraged lifestyle only last a few months on the streets before dying of exposure or something worse. With no job, no money, and no pleasant personality, they are truly trapped in the MEMS with no way out except death.

Gelada Baboon, Bronx Zoo (No. 1)

Baboon Reserve, opened in 1990, is a two-acre recreation of the Ethiopian highlands which, at the time of its opening, was the largest primate exhibit in the United States. The exhibit's main features revolve around the zoo's troop of geladas such as artificial rocks and earthbanks, and displays about life in the highlands and the side-by-side evolution of humans and geladas. An African village-styled café overlooks the exhibit. Baboon Reserve won the AZA Exhibit Award in 1991. In the fall of 2014, a male gelada was born at the zoo, the first in over 13 years.

Blue-winged geese and Cape teals have been exhibited here as well, though are currently absent. The former can now be found in African Plains while the later appears to be absent from the zoo's current on-exhibit collection.

It reminded me why we never touch mushrooms! We also found some Crimped Gill bracket mushrooms and our first spot of beautiful little Turkey Tails which apparently you can eat. Finally, we saw common puffballs and delighted on stamping on some of them to see them explode (this helps them to spread their spores). ⠀ ⠀ This part of Epping is on the Oak Trail walk which is 5-6 miles long - we didn’t do the whole route as the weather was a little wet and the forest very muddy. But it was lovely to explore another part of this wonderful forest.⠀ ⠀ How to get there: You can reach the Oak Trail if you travel to Theydon Bois station on the Central Line - alternatively you can drive and park at any of the numerous if small car parks. Always expect the car parks to be busy during lockdown!
