Air bubbles that form during the scuba diver's breathing fall under the dome of the jellyfish and can lead to its death.For these reasons, people swim in the lake only in the upper layer of water, using fins and a mask. Yuki leans forward in his seat, tossing his hands up in the air.

"But it is difficult! Everyone is always so 'oooo I don't know if I should do that, don't you have to drive?' and I am annoyed!"

Listening to Yuki complain about how hard it is to find someone willing to fist him is... not what Charles thought he'd be doing at 26.

Max throws his head back and laughs, grinning at Yuki.

"Mate, that is why you have to find someone that is willing to just,"

He makes an obscene gesture with his hands that makes Charles choke on his water.

"-work with you, you know? And then you invite that friend to races, and go visit them at their events. It is the perfect setup."

Charles thumps his chest, trying to recover as Max winks at him.

"Max, who the fuck are you talking about?"

Max leans back in his seat, grinning.

"He is not taking extras, sorry. Claims I am 'too high maintenance' as is. I of course have no idea what he's talking about- it is not high maintenance to want to get fucked every once in a while."

Charles' indignant noise at being referred to as 'extra' is interrupted by Pierre's loud laugh.

"Max, you and Rico is not 'casual fucking' mate, there's no way- he's so much bigger than you are."

Rico?

Charles is scrolling his mental catalog of names, trying to match it to faces in Max's entourage.

It clicks.

"No fucking way that fits inside of you."

He doesn't mean to blurt it out, but the mental image just isn't working in his head- Rico is huge. Max isn't exactly small, but- how does he even-

Max is still grinning, smug.

"I like to push the limits. He is very good also- he will spend forever on prep, it's actually annoying- but the sex is great."

Yuki is staring at him, wide eyed.

"Do you ride him?"

Max snorts.

"Wouldn't you like to know."

That's Max-speak for yes. Charles feels like his brain is breaking- he was fucking there when Rico was at the race, saw him lift Max, hold him in the air like he was weightless.

Max's arms can't even wrap around him all the way, how on earth-

Yuki sounds jealous, sinking back into his seat.

Pierre makes a sad noise.

✧ The first time Aaravos saw you clutching your abdomen, groaning and whimpering in pain, he instantly knew the cause was menstrual pain.

✧ Of course he's mature about it, neither bothered nor disgusted. To him, it's just as natural and necessary as any other process in life. Not only that, but he's also had five thousand years to "ponder the deepest mysteries of the universe"; he pretty much knows everything about menstruation, from cramps to hormonal changes, so he knows what to expect.

✧ Speaking of hormonal changes, he doesn't get mad or lash out when you're having mood swings. If you're angry, he's silent and lets you vent, until you're suddenly sad the next moment, and he calmly pulls you into his chest. At moments when you get too worked up though, he leaves you be; to have time to yourself and cool off. Whatever your mood is, he knows that you're really just feeling bad and icky, in need of comfort, so he always offers you your favorite heating pad: his hands.

✧ He burns nowhere near as brightly as he once did, so instead he settled for using Sun magic to raise his temperature for you. Whenever you're having bad cramps, he pulls you into his lap with your back against his chest, and presses his hand against your tummy, rubbing it in soothing circular motions. The heat along with the massaging always does wonders for you, and Aaravos smiles as he feels you start to relax, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. He knows how much you adore his voice, too, so he recites poetry and stories of old until you fall asleep.

✧ Somehow he always seems to know the approximate dates of your cycle: when it may start, when it will stop, when you'll ovulate (😏), and repeat. Expect your necessities, warm baths, and a bowl of soup on the first day. If you want him to spoon-feed you, he smirks and lets out a light chuckle, obliging you because how could he not?

✧ He also uses the healing/medicinal properties of Earth magic, whether from his own connection or from plants (animals too maybe idk). If you get nausea during your period and have to vomit somewhere (like me 🥲), he rubs your back with a pained expression. It hurts him to see his lovely like this, but he's always there to help you through it.

✧ And there's no need for you to worry about his vengeful plans; he has all the time in the world, so don't think his vendetta will keep his loving, secure arms from being wrapped around you.

✧ Fallen or not, Aaravos is a caring partner, and he'll always make sure you, his little star, are alright. Especially during your time of the month. ❤︎₊ ⊹

Locked Tomb Necro-Cav Dynamics

I'm probably either reaching or stating something really obvious, but - if the necro/cavalier partnership is supposed to be a metaphor for marriage under patriarchy (in being that it was created by a guy who seemed to have taken bullet points from the previous society and its power dynamics, in which one party holds all the power and the other is supposed to submit and serve blindly), then a lot of the necro/cav pairings we see in Canaan House reflect a lot of marriage tropes from Earth.

Judith and Marta

They seem to reflect a "stereotypical" necro-cavaliership, akin to a stereotypical marriage. Judith and Marta appear to have known each other in school ("I have studied energy transferral aptitude with Lt. Dyas since our school days." [GtN: P.456]) and were sworn to each other not long after school , not dissimilar to how a lot of very "traditional" marriages begin in high school and are quickly consummated after. They are also very professional and close with each other, and through Cohort military training are the pinnacle of everything a necro and cav should be, even down to Judith having to watch her cavalier die for her lol.

Ianthe, Coronabeth, and Naberius

Necro-cavalier bonds are typically partnerships, HOWEVER in this case Ianthe makes a third, and so she and her twin have to share a cavalier, which is very much frowned upon. My initial thought is this is a metaphor for polyamory, despite Ianthe and Corona being twins. But also them being twins hasn't stopped them from being very... attached to each other, to the point where several characters in the novels make references to their incestous-bordering relationship. (Palamedes comments about it to Nona I can't find the exact quote rn it's very late). So maybe it's not that far fetched.

Isaac and Jeannemary

The "arranged child marriage" trope, as they are the youngest necro/cav pair, having been sworn to each other at age 9/10, and Jeannemary being modelled into Isaac's cavalier from birth ("Intended to be Isaac's cavalier from birth, swore the oath with him and gained the title at age nine." [GtN: P. 460]). This is not unlike a lot of marriages between throughout the ages as families betrothe their young/unborn to strengthen ties and forge alliances.

Magnus and Abigail

Magnus and Abigail are a weird one again, because I'm saying the necro/cav relationship are a metaphor for marriage, and yet Abigail and Magnus, who ARE married, are reviled for it. The metaphor isn't perfect, and I'm willing to be wrong about this. Honestly just read this post by @katakaluptastrophy because honestly it was this that got me thinking in the first place.

Silas and Colum

Silas and Colum are a play on many marriages being incestuous; it's not unheard of for medieval marriages to be between uncles and nieces or aunts and nephews, especially to keep blood purity in noble families, which is very much a mindset of the Eighth and their need to "breed batteries". (Source)

Harrowhark and Gideon

Honestly, for these two I'm... not sure which part would be the metaphor. The sham nature of their necro/cav partnership? The power dynamics of an indentured servant being boosted up to the partner of a figurehead? All of it?

And from here I can't think of other marriage tropes that fit the others. The two left are the Sixth and Seventh but as we don't know anything about the relationship between Dulcinea and Protesilaus (since both are a bit... out the picture during GtN), it's hard to comment on. Unless, that's the commentry? Cam and Pal also don't fit anything that immediately comes to mind, apart from maybe mild incest again? But then, we have the Eighth to fit that trope already,,,

Let me know if you think this idea has any merit!! It's 4am, I'm tired, and I'll go back and fix sourcing issues at another point lol.

Evan is a crazy scientist who believes he can turn into god, and regularly lets people disappear to experiment on them. He's not religious, but one day he decides to give satanism/witchcraft a go. The ritual he did was meant to summon a demon, he even sacrificed humans and all that stuff, but instead of a demon appears... Barty!

At first, Evan is disappointed, but then Barty reveals pretty fast that he's a 460 year old vampire, and Evan is delighted. He never got to experiment on something undead, only on living things. Technically, Barty should be creeped out by his maniac personality and the twinkle in Evan's eyes, but he isn't and listens to what Evan is going to do to him instead. And he even agrees to trying it out!

From then on, Evan studies EVERYTHING on Barty: He cuts him open, looks what Barty reacts good and what bad to, even studies what will happen when he "kills" Barty. Evan's test subject is very turned on by the experiments, which is something Evan thinks he should explore further and gets Barty off multiple times. Hes even documenting everything (to what Barty reacts, does he actually have cum since he's dead, does that cum have sperm in it/can barty as an undead creature produce new life?). Evan uses the fact that Barty needs human blood as a way of killing people who annoy him, sometimes he even kidnaps them himself.

As a scientist, Evan also produces drugs and stimulants, sometimes he "steals" people he kidnapped for Barty and experiments on them, also he kills them to explore the difference between "killing" Barty and living people.

Barty knows about Evan's studies and is very fascinated by them. Because he is smart and gathered/learned a lot of information in his many years on earth, he sometimes even helps Evan figure out formulas or comes up with his own ideas to try out.

Evan is demisexual, yet heavily necrophilic. Because he got Barty off multiple times already, they are very comfortable with each other and due Barty not being able to actually die, he helps Evan explore his sexual likings. They include fucking Barty while he is unconscious, woundfucking (it is no health risk for Barty, he can't get sick from bacteria) or even "killing" him during the act.

At some point, they know each other well enough that Evan allows Barty to take a sip from his blood from time to time. Also he studies if that has any effect on him. When Evan agreed to let Barty properly bite him and actually drink his blood, not just sip it, he knew that he would turn into a vampire too. Evan documented the process of turning, and after this event it would get even more bloody in the bedroom than it did before.

James had never seen the Black family's ancestral home. Going there was the only thing his parents had ever forbidden him from doing. Sirius had forbidden him as well. He’d been close a few times to going when he hadn’t heard from Sirius over the holidays after a few particularly bad letters, but he’d kept his word. Once Sirius had run away, there had been no reason for him to go to Grimmauld Place at all. Well, apart from Regulus. But there was no way the younger Black brother would want him there, so the point was moot. 

He looked up at the three-storey town house. The bricks were an odd shade of grey, almost black. He could feel the waves of dark magic coming away from the centuries of Black family members performing powerful spells within its walls. A chill ran through him. If the outside was this foreboding, what on earth was the interior like? 

“You ready?” Sirius whispered to him, pulling him out of his thoughts. He turned to look at his friend. He wrapped an arm around him. Sirius was trying to look confident and carefree, but James spotted the slight tremor of his fingers and the wavering in his voice. When their eyes met, Sirius’s were haunted by memories of his past. 

“Yeah, let’s do this,” James’s smile didn’t quite reach his eyes, but he tried his best for Sirius as he slipped his invisibility cloak out of his bag. 

Remus stepped forward and took Sirius into his arms. They gazed at each other and silently conversed. 

“I mean it, Sirius, the first sign of trouble, and you get yourself out. I can’t lose you again,” Remus pleaded with him. 

“I promise, Moony. I love you,” Sirius replied, standing on tiptoe to reach up to Remus's lips. 

“I love you too,” Remus told him before grabbing the front of his shirt and pressing them together. 

“Do not let him die in there,” Remus warned James once he’d released Sirius. 

“I won’t”, James promised, as he threw the invisibility cloak over them. 

“What the fuck just happened?!” Marcus exclaimed, waving his hands around in the space where James and Sirius had been. 

“Shhh, idiot. I’ll tell you in a minute.” Remus hushed him. Marcus fell silent, but James and Sirius were already walking through the little iron gate at the entrance to the property. 

This was it. They had no idea if Sirius would still be allowed past the house’s protection charms. Regulus didn’t know if their parents had changed them or not. They’d find out in a second either way. Sirius raised his hand and turned the giant brass door knob. The door swung open with ease, and they walked into the gloomy entrance hall.

you huff as your face glows with a smile.

it was movie night at sero's flat and the first time you'd been invited as eijirou's girlfriend rather than just his classmate. his face is fixed on yours, his dreamy eyes and soft smile, as you reach up and cradle the left side of his face in your palm. your fingers card through his soft hair and you squeal as he nips at your fingertips with his sharp teeth.

you were sat in the living room, the others dotted around the house and someone was in the kitchen making popcorn, eijirou crinkles his nose at the smell. you place your other hand on his forehead. "you feeling alright sweetie?"

the redhead sighs and leans into your touch, closing his eyes and taking in the feeling of your nails itching at his scalp. "hmmm," his dark eyelashes flutter, "yeah my headache's gone down."

your expressions are mirrors of each other, the dreamy smiles that come with finally getting the person that you want. eijirou leans down and places a kiss on your forehead.

"are you ok?" he's always been good at reading you.

"yeah- i'm just," you pause as a crash followed by a yelp resounds from the kitchen. "….."

his eyes don’t depart from yours even as the commotion in the kitchen amplifies. "nervous?"

you nod gently, almost embarrassed, it's not like you haven't met sero or bakugou or his other friends before but eijirou is extremely precious to you, to all his friends. you can tell. they all take his opinion and emotions very seriously, he's got the kindest soul, and the sweetest smile, and you want his friends to like you as his girlfriend.

"don't be." he tilts your chin up slowly and gently. "i know they're-" another crash, this time followed by a shriek of laughter. "…abit much sometimes, but they all really like you."

you hum and avoid eye contact, but he insists, "i'm not joking like katsuki told me not to fumble you yeah, he really respects you." that brings a smile to your face and you wrap your arms around his torso and bury your face into his chest. he smells like the earth and your strawberry scented body wash.

"and even if they don't, that doesn't really matter."

he leans down to plant a kiss on the side of your neck, and you squirm and swat his shoulder as his hair tickles your ear, "baby stoppp."

“let me love on my girlfriend," the term makes both of you slightly giddy and he smiles shyly. “it doesn't matter, because i love you.”

Germ Theory

The Germ Theory, which emerged in the late 19th century, demonstrated that microscopic germs caused most human infectious diseases. The germs involved included bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, and prions. Louis Pasteur (1822-1895), a French chemist and microbiologist, and Robert Koch (1843-1910), a German physician and microbiologist, are credited with the discovery of the germ theory in the 1860s-1880s.

Regarded as the most important discovery in the history of medicine, the germ theory challenged the medical profession to reevaluate how disease was thought about, offered possibilities for both the prevention and treatment of disease, as well as the discovery and implementation of new technologies to combat disease.

Previously, doctors assumed that disease was an internal process of the human body especially Hippocrates' long-standing four humors theory notion that excesses or deficiencies of four bodily fluids (blood, phlegm, yellow and black biles) led to illness and disease. The germ theory contradicted that idea by separating the disease from the afflicted persons. Furthermore, the new theory ushered in a regimented way of classifying diseases (nosology) according to the type of microorganisms causing the disease.

Historical Theories of Disease

Prior to the discovery of the germ theory, various theories were advanced as possible explanations for illness and disease in humans. The earliest theory was the miasma theory attributed to Hippocrates (460-370 BCE), a Greek physician. Derived from the Greek word meaning pollution or "bad air", the miasma theory suggested that decomposing particles from organic materials, plants or animals, poisoned the air. Although easily detected by smell, people who inhaled the "bad air" would become ill. Additionally, planetary movements, disturbances to the Earth, poor hygiene, and polluted water often contributed to miasma. Attempts to remove waste along with cleanliness were thought necessary to improve the atmosphere to avoid infection and disease.

Aristotle (384-322 BCE), a Greek philosopher, offered the spontaneous generation of disease. It was possible, Aristotle thought, for living organisms to spring from non-living matter. Furthermore, this process, like maggots appearing from dead flesh, was a regular and natural phenomenon.

Galen (129-216 CE), a Roman physician, extended Hippocrates' earlier speculation about the imbalance of bodily fluids as the cause of disease. Galen attached each of the four humors to a particular season characterized by hot, cold, dry, and wet. For example, colds and flues occurred most often during cold and wet weather. Any change in the weather or season could upset the balance of the four humors so treatments were devised to restore said balance e.g., purges, bloodletting, enemas, and vomits. These ancient theories dominated Western medical thinking about illness until the 19th century.

Another theory of the origin of diseases referred to supernatural causes. A person's sins resulted in contracting a disease or illness as a punishment from the gods or God. Ghosts, demons, and evil spirits also possessed the ability to afflict a person with illness. Magic, divination, spells, exorcism, and various drugs were used to diagnose and treat illness. It fell to a variety of healers – shamans, priests, diviners, medicine men – to drive away the evil spirits. Illness as a punishment for sins, as well as a test of faith, was later offered by Christian theologians as an explanation for disease.

Additional theories on the origin of diseases continued to emerge. Girolamo Fracastoro (1476-1553), an Italian physician, is credited with first using the word "contagion" when describing the transmission of illness. His "seeds of disease" theory argued that disease could be spread by direct or indirect contact or over long distances through no contact at all. A German chemist, Justus von Liebig (1803-1873), one of the early founders of organic chemistry, suggested that as a result of a chemical process from decaying organic matter, disease simply emerged in the blood (the body's "chemical factory").
