I’ve had consistent problems with my right ear ever since I was little. I had countless ear infections as a kid and when I was 10 I had a cholesteatoma removed along with (if I remember correctly) having one of my inner ear bones replaced. After that I’ve just dealt with constant pain, vertigo, popping, and intermittent total hearing loss in that ear. It’s not very good at being an ear. I finally decided to talk to my PCP about this and she referred me to an ENT- yippee another specialist for my collection. Amazingly I got an appointment made within two weeks of the referral and I’m actually supposed to see him this week. So offfffff course my ear decides to act up in the most painful way it has in a While. I’m worried I either have an infection or my ear drum is trying to rupture. It did that back in 2018 and my already bad hearing got even worse so I really don’t think I have much to lose at this point. Which is unfortunate because if my doctor decides I need a hearing aid… I simply won’t be able to afford it. My insurance only covers adults of three specific categories, of which I am not, and hearing aids are crazy expensive. So I simply will only have one good ear as I likely continue to lose my hearing in my bad ear. I’m hopeful for the appointment to go well but god I could really go without this pain. Wish me luck and also can we make hearing aids more accessible???? Like hello wtf is that about???

Just learned that, infact, not everyone has to deal with constant, annoying, near 24/7 ringing in their ears. Shocked and upset.

Daily art Day 2
Self portrait.
Hyperacusis.
I have chronic migraines + adhd which makes me extremely sensitive to sounds. Even things like breathing loudly can set me off. Its is so painful to listen to sounds. Everything is intolerable. But nothing in this world is meant to accommodate disabilities, especially invisible ones like chronic pains. Every second of my existence is painful to me, and tbh it’s tiring living like this.
I am home bound for no reason. My personality is quite extroverted yet I cant go out without the next few days being absolute hell for me. I haven’t even had the joy of listening to music. Everything has to be on loudspeaker with volume at 1.
It’s something I have to live with forever and it breaks me apart.

so here's something that just happened
i was writing a fanfics and it was at a really sad point so I was crying. And while I was doing this I was also changing my earrings which is definitely something that you should not be doing while writing a sad fanfic. And this is actually the
And this is actually the first time while writing a fanfic so that's a fun fact. So I was doing that and I finished writing the sad part and moved on to the comfort because I need happiness in my life. And at that time I also took off my earring in my left ear. (So it's been about a month since I got my ears re pierced because every single time that I pierce them the holes closed and this ear specifically has been a pain in the ass. It always gets infected and I'm partially deaf in this ear.) So I took the earring out and inspected it. And the needle part of the earring was covered in blood because of course it is.
so long story short I was depressed from my fanfic and my ear was bleeding. Such a beautiful Monday

My fucking ears
After about 16 years of pain and over a year long wait to see an ENT specialist, I finally got seen about a week ago. Well.
The good news is he didn't dismiss the pain
The bad news is he has no idea what's wrong. Everything looks normal. There's nothing to indicate what could be causing the pain that he can see. Especially for so long, and bilaterally.
So basically I'm a medical mystery

They're Back

That was great but they are back today. Ear swishing, pulsatile tinnitus, and popping doing their thing in my ears again. Oh…

Guys the craziest shit just happened!
So for those who don’t know I was deaf as a child, my ears had severe blockage because my ear couldn’t drain properly and wasn’t helped by my ableist parents denying it until it started hurting me which by then it was almost solidified. Eventually it ruptured my ear drum and I had to be taken to the ER (I was around 6 and for once even the cult was like “okay prayers and our medic guy can’t fix this holy shit”), surgery was done to put tubing in and I could finally hear, only to learn it was a temporary fix and that it would keep coming back for the rest of my life. So I invested in an ear camera a year ago to keep an eye on blockages or anything odd, kept it clean and helped me notice when my hearing was failing again.
Today in a insomnia driven mood I decided hey let’s check my ear (my right one has been giving out more the last 6 months) and yeah there was a small chunk, I get it and accidentally lift something. I keep peeling it and suddenly half of the shit in my right ear came out. I compared it to my better left ear and realized that is not how an ear canal is supposed to look. Apparently my right ear didn’t shed correctly and had basically had layers of skin and wax sitting on top for god knows how long and I just got it out and holy fuck the sound difference is crazy.
I’m still going to keep learning ASL bc it’s guaranteed I will eventually be permanently deaf, but I’m glad to know that time hasn’t come yet and I’ve got a few more years of hearing left :]

Soooo do we think it’s worth mentioning to my doctor tomorrow that I can’t hear of my right ear? This happens sometimes but usually not for very long. It’s been since Friday and usually it only lasts maybe five minutes. This ear SUCKS and is always having issues but… I don’t wanna see another specialist. I’m very tempted to keep this to myself and see if it resolves itself.

something that drives me insane on a relatively regular basis as a body jewelry understander is talking to people who have sensitive skin who are like "oh well I just can't wear any earrings without my ears getting inflamed" and I say "well what have you tried" and they say "well I've tried sterling silver and I've tried gold..." and it's like. ok. I don't know how gold and sterling somehow got spun by the jewelry industry as being especially good for sensitive skin but whenever I'm like "well have you tried implant grade titanium" they're always like "no....... but I've tried sterling silver... and it didn't work ..." like. I don't know how this narrative about sterling silver somehow got so strong but when they put pins in your fucking legs when you snap your leg in half are those pins made of sterling silver or are they made of implant grade titanium or surgical steel????????? HELLO. HI. YOU MIGHT BENEFIT FROM TRYING IMPLANT GRADE TITANIUM I AM JUST SAYING
