Draculaura being a vegetarian vampire who takes iron supplements makes sense from a writing perspective, since obviously Mattel doesn’t want a main character in a franchise aimed at kids to implicitly hurt or kill people or animals on a regular basis. But she isn’t just against drinking blood or eating meat on moral grounds. She’s afraid of blood. The spoken word or sight of cooked meat is enough to make her faint. She’s been a vampire for well over a thousand years when we meet her, grown up in the vampire court as Count Dracula’s adopted daughter, socialized with vampires and still has an extreme phobia even by human standards, despite presumably a great deal of exposure. That’s weird. In cultural and psychological terms.

Monster High vampires are never said not to drink blood as a rule. They don’t have to or feel serious cravings; Draculaura is perfectly healthy and has no inner conflict on forgoing blood. But they do seem to have a predisposition to bloodthirstiness. Her vegetarianism is noted to be atypical. Unlike her, her vampire friend Elissabat wears blood imagery - droplet earrings and red accents - and her eating habits are never mentioned, so we can presume that she feeds in a more traditional way.

What about Draculaura? Her remarkably severe and persistent phobia, especially for a vampire, seems most likely to be rooted in some kind of traumatic event. If so, what did she see? Did it inspire it her to impose her dietary restrictions? Did she really have the willpower to swear off blood from the moment Dracula turned her at the age of sixteen? After all, he isn’t vegetarian. He would have shown her the ropes. Maybe what she saw isn’t quite the right question.

That's why I planned all of this. -WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING TO ME, SON OF A BITCH? LET GO OF ME OR I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!- Slowly the muscles, the height of Johnny's entire appearance, was quickly and painfully transferred to me. He could feel my muscles bursting as he sank in front of my eyes, The arrogant and handsome Johnny deflates and became the person who looked at himself in the mirror every day, we were exchanging our bodies.

When the process was over, the arrogant Johnny was now on his knees with a flushed face and tears in his eyes from the pain. Finally, the magnetism that had made it impossible for both of us to let go of our hands disappeared. I think my body doesn't resist the process so well because the instant I let go of him he passed out.

I flexed my powerful new arms and that made my shirt rip thanks to how huge it was now, my clothes had ripped in the process, but Johnny's clothes were still intact, I undressed him without any problem right now he was double the size it was a few minutes ago I had to admit it felt fantastic to be this powerful too bad I couldn't enjoy that sweet moment with Johnny I had a valentines date with my boyfriend and this muscular ass was screaming to be fucked.

CatBoy Chaos Comparative Anatomy/Traits Post!!

I asked in the endnotes of ch. 3 of CatBoy Chaos if anyone would be interested in my thoughts about the anatomy of catboy! Danny in my fic, as someone studying animal science, and several people said yes- so here they are! Some things I’m going to talk about in this post have been mentioned in the fic already, but I’m going to elaborate more on them.

SO - Cats and Humans? Are very very different!! (shocker I know) Forcing the human body to have cat traits would realistically fuck you up real good! Just ears, a tail, and eyes is (quite literally,) surface level stuff, and imo a little boring! So here is a list with explanations of my version of Cat-Boy Danny’s traits :

1) Advantageous Cat Traits:

Improved Hearing, he can hear softer sounds, and tell directionally where sounds are coming from! (Directional hearing is something humans are really bad at)

Improved Smell! Cats obviously have a much better sense of smell than humans

Improved Night Vision - cat eyes means a “tapetum lucidum” -  a layer of reflective cells, and what causes cat’s eyes to “glow” in the dark!

Tolerance for Dehydration and Infrequent Blinking - Domestic cats descend from desert-dwelling wildcats. These traits are a result of that ancestry, and now Danny can win any staring contest!

2) Instincts!!

Discomfort with death - (mentioned in ch.2) - animals typically have an instinctual aversion to death, it’s an important survival instinct! For Half-ghost boy Danny, this makes using his ghost powers uncomfortable, and sets him on edge any time he uses them.

Prey Drive! - Cats are predators, they have a prey drive, this will be very fun for me to include, and potentially very embarrassing for Danny... 

Defensive Reactions - will absolutely hiss/bite before really thinking. Think fight or flight made more dramatic.

3) Complete Cat Dentition

Poor boy doesn’t just have the sharp “fang” canines of a cat, he has ALL cat teeth. Cats are carnivores!!! All their teeth are sharp!! 

This totally makes eating and chewing more difficult for Danny.

Hooked “sandpaper” tongue! He’s not going to lick himself, that’s gross, but he does have a hooked tongue!

4) New Dietary Considerations

Cats are OBLIGATE CARNIVORES!! On their own, cats cannot synthesize taurine - an amino acid that is absolutely vital to the body’s function! Danny’s meta gene removed his ability to synthesize it, he either needs meat in his diet, or to take a special taurine supplement. 

Regardless of wether or not he wasn’t before - Danny is ABSOLUTELY lactose intolerant now. Human’s common lactose tolerance into adulthood is unique in the animal kingdom.

Common cat poisons - In chapter 2, Danny gets sick after having a mocha latte - Coffee and Chocolate are two things cats cant have! He’s gotta be careful about what he eats now. Will everything bad for cats make him sick? No, but he doesn’t know what will or won’t.

5) Learned Muscle Control

Humans do have ear muscles, but they’re vestigial. Some people have a little control over them, which is why they can “wiggle their ears”. Suddenly for Danny, these muscles are no longer vestigial.

His tail is an entire appendage that he didn’t have before, 

Until he learns control of these muscles, any emotion shown by his tail or ears is involuntary and instinctual!!

6) Incompatible Skeletal Structure

Oh boy - human bipedalism is already such a mess structurally. From an engineering and structural standpoint, human hips and backs are so very messed up, (its why back pain is so very common). Adding a tail to that mix? yikes.... a tail is a continuation of the spine. Realistically, it would ABSOLUTELY cause severe chronic hip/back pain. It’s not something that’s going to to play a role in CatBoy Chaos, but know that i’m thinking about it and imagining how much ouch that would be.

NO RETRACTABLE CLAWS - YIKES EW NO. Retractable claws would BUTCHER human hands… A cat's retractable claws involve the bone that is equivalent to a human fingertip. I’m not doing that to Danny… ick, no, that would be really gross to me -

Also: some small notes about Danny and cat Stereotypes/Myths

“Cats Always Land on their feet” and landing unharmed from impossible heights - For cats, these are a result of directional awareness in the air, ability to “parachute” to slow descent, and the ability to “cushion” the impact when landing. Of these traits, the only one Danny could really have and still look like a catboy as opposed to a full-on anthro cat, is directional awareness in the air.

“Cats don’t like water” - This comes up in ch. 4, so minor spoiler until I post it this weekend, but ultimately Danny comes to his own conclusion that wet fur is not comfortable, and takes forever to dry.

“Cats & 9-lives” - well... he’s still a halfa...

Human Rider Changes

Brom wasn't altered the way Eragon was, but in MIC I'm gonna say even the human Riders were altered by the bond, beyond the slightly more elfish appearance and pointed ears.

Over time Humans start getting the more pointed tooth shape that unaltered elves are born with. It takes FAR longer, but they also start to grow a very thin version of the controllable tapetum lucidum, but most can't use it the way elves can at will.

Human Riders also begin to get faster reflexes, larger energy stores, slightly higher than normal strength and endurance for their physiques, increased night vision in general, and I really really want to say longer periods of high neuroplasticity (ease of learning, adaptations, etc) going further into adulthood (though neuroplasticity IS seen in adults, it's not to the extent seen in childhood, but don't quote me on that I haven't read up on it very much lately) but I don't have a reason for that really. I feel like elves naturally keep a fairly high level of neuroplasticity, maybe some effect of dragons ancestral memories (god damn i wanna explore that too and for some reason I think it would lead me to papers and fish and birds and I'm....I'm not up for that just yet).

Magic use can speed up these changes, though it's still a very gradual process. One of the risk factors, however, is that while their strength is not terribly increased, there's still a posibility that their strength can be dangerous to them. Magic use is typically restricted to practice and training while being taught by masters so that explosive use of magic won't lead to a far faster increase in strength, before the bones have adapted to it.

Elves, when they have access to it, incorporate a leafy green called Tinleaf into their diets, along with a variety of (currently unnamed, let me cook) fruits and other vegge that grow in Du Weldenvarden and were brought to the Rider's island. Tinleaf and these other foods are high in dietary titanium, nickel chloride/sulfate, and zirconium silicate, all used in their bone structure which incoperates alloys that allow them to be so resistant to their strength without shattering bones by walking and hitting things. When out of the forest/not around sources of these food/plants, elves have supplements they can take if without natural sources for too long.

These changes are why Arya is still a bit baffled/confused when she's with the Varden and learning of all these things these humans can't do/don't have going on with their bodies. Brom's changes were still early stage, but he still had some, and she just kinda assumed they were all like that. She was practically a kid at that point, confused why the books she read didn't mention any of that stuff, and then Caleb, Sam, Simon and the rest are having to explain a LOT.

I also found it both jarring and a nice reminder when reading Murtagh (shhhh look okay I just want the fancy cover one and then I'll finish it the ADHD is not good with these things I can't just sit and read anymore it's painful and I don't know why. You know what, send me a hurricane, knock my power out for a week, and I'll finish it before the deluxe release.) that Eragon is NOT the norm for human Riders. He is not human anymore. He is more elf. His strength and energy stores are FAR beyond what human Riders were capable of, unless i just haven't reached some plot twist yet.

I would say that it made the Forsworn make so much more sense, but a VAST majority of the Forsworn we know were elves. Human Riders could have had so much resentment towards their elven counterparts, even with their partners by their side and all the gifts the bonding gave them, it could have been almost crushing to see what elf Riders could do even without formal training.

I wanted/want to put Murtagh on somewhat more even footing after the war in MIC. Without Galbatorix's spells, he's still far more human than Eragon, but he's stronger than any other human man of his size, stature and physique, he's faster, he learns faster, and he can maintain and cast spells well beyond what a regular human mage can, even with training. With more Ancient Language under his belt, more time with Thorn, more practice, he would be (and is) well beyond anything any human could accomplish even with both training for decades and a wealth of natural talent.

Maybe at some point a more significant though still gradual increase in strength, speed, ect, all the elfy things, is introduced to the Rider Bond using the Word/the Name. Resentment from the non-elven students is something I worry about if other Rider species/races are left with nothing to put them at an equal level.

Brain Curd #233 - Twenty-Minute Tuesday #27

Brain Curds are lightly edited daily writing - usually flash fiction and sometimes terrible on purpose.

Here we see the feral human, in natural habitat: her bedroom. She is unemployed and subsists off of snack cheese, frozen hash browns, and hummus. Her day begins at eight in the morning on the dot as her alarm reminds her to take the several pills that keep her from wanting to kill herself.

After swallowing the lion’s share and placing one of the tablets under her tongue to dissolve, she often rolls over and goes back to sleep, only to reawaken two hours later when another alarm reminds her to drink a dietary fiber supplement. Today, however, she has a therapist appointment scheduled in an hour, so does her equally common morning routine of groggily attempting to solve today’s Wordle. Her twenty-day streak does not survive.

Her stomach grumbles and she ventures out of her nest to gather breakfast. She is too lazy to cook, so scavenges a pack of frosted strawberry Pop Tarts from the cupboard and eats them cold. She immediately regrets this and places the pastries - one of which already has a bite taken out of it - into the toaster. She has forgotten to set it to the lowest setting. Due to her time blindness, she fails to realize her mistake until smoke rises from the device and sets off the smoke alarm, which she does not know how to turn off.

She plugs her ears and runs back to her bedroom to hide under the covers. She shivers at the sound as it pierces her eardrums and stabs her brain. Her phone rings and she answers. It is a call from her therapist’s office stating that her appointment must be canceled today, as the therapist is feeling ill. She replies that it is perfectly alright, but she has not had a session in nearly a month. The pressures of life (though few they may be in her privileged position of eldest daughter on medical leave) have begun to chip away at her.

She clutches her fluffy polymer-stuffed shark plush and tries to imagine a different world, one better for her, without all the work it takes just to reach the baseline everyone else seems to have started off at. But she feels guilty not using her time to imagine a better world for everyone else instead. The universe screeches in her ears. She wonders when she will be good enough.

Diona is very sensitive to sound. Diluc commissioned Albedo to make soundproof earplugs made specifically for her ears.

Diona goes "fishing" with Klee. She turns all of the fish Klee blasts into her specialty dish, and the two use them for picnics.

She loves birdwatching. She sometimes has the urge to catch them, but she stops herself. This is how she teaches herself self control.

Xe taught Diona how to use her bow. Xe is mostly self-taught, but Kaeya helped xem learn the basics.

Diluc lets star borrow his falcon so that star can take it and Oz on playdates. Star loves watching them fly together, but it reminds star of stars lack of friends. Diona offers to come with star, though, so star feels less alone.

Immernachtreich Fischl looks significantly different from the real Fischl. Most noticeably, their more confident expression and lack of eyebags. She also has a smile, while the real Fischl has RBF.

Everytime Diluc sees Kaeya and Eula drinking together, he feels a pang of sadness. When this happens, he gets Charles to cover his shift so he can take a break. He doesn't want his patrons to see him sad because of his brother finding a new family.

Diluc has severe burns on his hands from the delusion.

He wears a necklace under his suit. It has a starconch that Kaeya gave him as a kid. He keeps it there in hopes that it'll somehow help him get his brother back.

He has a lot of extra rooms in the Dawn Winery. One was given to Venti, another to Fischl, and another to Diona whenever she wants to stay there...but Kaeya's room is never occupied. It's exactly the same as it was when he left six years ago. Diluc's kept it the same, and occasionally just sits in there when he misses his brother.

Diluc loves animals, even though the only pet he has is his falcon. He has a special soft spot for cats, but he never lets them near the winery in order to keep Venti safe.

She has a pet mouse that she keeps in the lab. She was gonna use it for an experiment, but decided against it. The mouse has been in the lab for over a year now and is named Fritz.

Albedo wears gold makeup to highlight the mark on his neck. He's extremely proud of it, as it reminds him of his imperfections. He also has golden streaks in his hair and Khaenri'ahn pupils.

He sends letters to Cyno and Tighnari. He tells Tighnari about his experiments and exchanges jokes and TCG strategies with Cyno.

She sends letters to Collei talking about her experiments and experiences with anxiety, helping Collei learn how to cope with her stress.

Kaeya taught them how to use their vision and Rosaria taught them how to use their polearm.

I don't have many thoughts about Mika, sorry. She's one of the two four stars I don't have, so I haven't read much about her.

Okay first of all I replaced her eyes with Immernachtreich Fischl's since I don't like how her eyes are a different art style than everyone else's.

She's SUPER pale. This is due to her having anemia. She often takes iron supplements to help with this, but she's still super pale. It's also because she's a night owl and almost never gets sun. This has led to many rumors about her being a vampire, but she doesn't mind. She likes being feared.

Vamp is friends with Diluc and often gives him updates on how Kaeya's doing. Vamp is also one of the few people who knows that he's the Darknight Hero, and the two work together a lot.

They get antidepressants from Sucrose for free.

The surname I gave her, Nacht, means night watchman.

Mona works with Lisa a lot to try and cure her curse.

She has a pet cat named Effie. Effie is a Birman and often stays in Mona's library, sleeping on the bookshelves. Effie hates Oz and tries to eat him whenever Fischl visits.

Star graduated from the Akademiya in the Rtawahist darshan, but star also took a lot of Vahumana classes and is a licensed therapist. Star reads people's constellations and learns their pasts, then star helps them cope with any issues they have. Star also prescribes medicine if needed, sending a prescription to Sucrose and Albedo.

"Windrippers have evolved into two groups; Forest Windrippers and Cave Windrippers. The main difference between these two aren't so much genetics or inbreeding, because the two subtypes are not a separate species from each other, as much as build, flight type and dietary needs.

Forest Windrippers have evolved into being more stocky, stout dragons with wings better suited for distance flying and hovering, they have shorter snouts, smaller but broader ears, pupils that are more likely to be round instead of slitted, and a wider sclera/smaller iris to accompany their tendency to be in brighter areas, as well as the fact that they are more likely to live off of fresh game, common berries like blueberries and blackberries.

Cave Windrippers, however, are lean and lythe, disheveled and even boney/starving looks being common on a healthy specimen. Their heads are very narrow, able to fit into smaller spots for smaller prey, as well as defined cheekbones, double collarbones(present in both Forest and Cave, its just the first and second set of collarbones are more visible), and hind legs much longer than their front legs + wings are more built for acting as a second set of arms/stabilising/balance for when they stand bipedal instead of quadpedal.
