Spones Zine Update: Deadline Extension
Tumblr media
Hi everyone, Mod Callie here.
First of all, I'd like to apologize for the lack of activity on here and for any news/announcements regarding the second edition of the Zine. For all of the mods, personal life has been very hectic from school to work and other things in-between. As much as we all love Spones, real life needs to come first and foremost so we hope that you understand the lack of activity.
We don't wish to cancel the issue, but we also want to be fair to both our volunteers and to you guys hoping to submit to the zine. Thus, we have decided to extend the deadline! We had originally planned to close submissions around August, but we will now be accepting until September 15th, 2024. The theme for this edition is Shore Leave, so if you'd like to submit any art/fiction, please feel free~! The submission link is posted below and please help us spread the word around~!
We thank you all for your patience with us and for your continuous support for the zine and for Spones! We will try to provide more information as things happen, and always feel free to join our Discord to keep up with all the latest! Happy Spones-ing everybody~!

The Masquerade Breach Zine
Hi I am ProblemSynth also known as Zeke. I’m a bi-transmasc artist and occasional writer with a love of vampires and VTM. I am also making the (probably terrible) choice to set up a free community zine for the first time.
Overview
Masquerade Breach is a free community E-Zine for enjoyers of the Vampire The Masquerade games and media. The theme of this project is the violation of the “Masquerade” and the various ways kindred breach it.
While the focus is largely on vampires, you’re invited to interpret the theme not just through the eyes of kindred but also through the eyes of mortals and hunters.
There is currently a soft limit of 30 applicants with those applying after entering a wait list in the event of drop outs.
Goals
The aim of this project is to collect pictures and short stories from the community in one place, and give it back in the form of a free printable PDF.
This zine will be distributed largely through tumblr and the discord with links to the PDF on Google Drive. Links to the social media(s) of participants will be shown alongside the tumblr and Discord posts.
I will be pinning this post to my blog for reference.
As this is my first public Zine I expect some hiccups along the way. I will do by best to communicate when they happen via tumblr, discord, and dms (when necessary). Please be a little patient with me as I work things out.
Applicant Restrictions
Please be at least 18 years old.
What’s The Schedule?
Applications - Dec 10, 2023 to Feb 21, 2024 (full)
Submissions - Dec 10, 2023 to Feb 29, 2024
Formatting submissions - Mar 1, 2024 to Mar 31, 2023
Distribution - Mar 31, 2023
You Can Find The Whole Project Plan Here
You Can Apply Here
The Discord Is here
Please feel free to contact me with questions.
Edit: Slight update to the release date. Life happened and march wound up being nonstop work from all sides. so theres going to be a few weeks delay on release as i get things in order. many sorry's.

Info about this zine: TUMBLR and TWITTER
A. We have 71 participants signed-up so far!!!!
That's more than I ever expected would sign-up. Thank you all so much for the support so far, I wouldn't be able to do this without ya'll!
B. I will be extending the sign-up deadline by a week!
Sign-Ups will now close on July 19th!
–SIGN UP HERE–
C. As a result, submissions will be due at the end of September (September 30th, 2024).
D. I am also sending out a recruitment call to those of you in the fandom!
If there are ANY artists or writers you would like to see featured in this zine, please let me know in the replies, reblogs, or this account's DMs. I will see what I can do to ask them to join!
As I don't have an Instagram and don't have mutuals on Twitter, I won't be able to contact those who are exclusively on those sites. If there is any one here you feel should join, please let them know!
Furthermore, if there are any writers on Ao3 or wherever else fanfiction is posted, please let me know as well! I would love to invite writers, but I am not as familiar with them.
I am trying to recruit as many of us as possible, and I would love to have members picked by the community. This also allows the reach to go further! Anyone from Twitter, Instagram, AO3, etc. as well as Tumblr is welcome to join! There's a lot of places I don't go, and I don't want people who would be interested in joining to miss out.
Please do check replies before replying to see if the account you have in mind has already been mentioned.
E. Join the Discord for updates!
As I don't have mods to help me regulate a general chat, no general discussion space will be offered here yet. The Discord will just be for announcements and a quicker way to ask the mod (me) questions. My username on Discord is dr.tycho
F. Mod Call!
Finally if you are interested in helping me mod this zine, please contact me on this account in DMs or on Discord at dr.tycho .
Mod Jobs: In order for the Discord to have a general chatting channel, a mod is needed to help me moderate chatlogs. A mod may also be needed to help me process and organize submissions / keep track of communications.
Mod Rules: Mods must be 18+ (not minors). Must be able to reply to communications within a reasonable amount of time.
Thank you!!!!!

K/S Gazette (Jan and Feb!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First, a reminder: Early Bird Registration for KiScon is still open through Valentine's Day!
If you have not yet registered for KiScon and want that sweet sweet Early Bird Registration rate of $150, make sure you sign up within this window!
The price of in-person attending registration will go up on February 15th to $165. Registration will remain available at that price through the 31st of July. On August 1st the price will go up again to $180. All registration for the convention, both online and in person, takes place through Conline! Register here: https://kiscon.conline.club/ We have also produced a helpful Conline How-To pdf: https://kiscon.org/resources/Conline-How-To-2024.pdf
More information regarding registration, membership tiers, as well as scholarships, can be found in the previous issue of our newsletter, archived here. 2. Submissions for the 2024 KiScon Zine are open! Submissions for the 2024 KiScon Zine are open now through August 1st!
Our editor, @1lostone, is looking forward to working with you.
We are looking for new and never before seen art and writing (both fic and meta!) focusing on the relationship between Kirk and Spock.
For a full rundown of the submission guidelines and access to the submission form, please see the zine page on our website: https://kiscon.org/zine.html
The hard deadline for zine submissions is August 1st, 2024. 3. K/S Spring Fever is in full swing!
February finds you feeling frigid? Not to fret! K/S Spring Fever, our delightful springtime Kirk and Spock prompt fill fest will have you thoroughly warmed up in no time! The prompting phase of the fest has generated 120 glorious prompts, which now beckon to be filled.
You can view said prompts and find out more information about the event on the 2024 Collection Page on AO3. 4. K/S Bingo is also in full swing, and will be for the rest of the year!
If you are active in our KiScord Server you may already be aware, but 1lostone has put together a splendid, low-pressure K/S fannish creation event in the form of a bingo challenge!
The way it works is like this: 1. You fill out this Google form. 2. 1lostone, powerful Wrangler of the Bingo, will then generate for you a custom bingo card, and send it to you either via Direct Message on Discord or via e-mail. 3. You have until the end of the year to obtain the state known as bingo (horizontal, vertical, diagonal, blackout, Texas T – any way you like) by creating fanworks to fill the prompts upon thy bingo card. Don't forget to add your work to the AO3 collection: KiScon Bingo Challenge. 5. Curious what else is going on in online K/S fandom?
The lovely Thia has put together a handy dandy calendar of K/S and K/S adjacent fandom events, anniversaries, and deadlines for the year 2024! It lists the events in chronological order and has links to websites where you can find out more information on many of them listed at the bottom of the page. Neat!
You can view the calendar on Thia's website here.  6. Not enough K/S in your social media feed?
KiScon is now on both Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/kisconnews/) and TikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/@kisconnews/).
Our lovely social media wranglers @cate-adams and @purpleenma are currently conducting and posting a fascinating fannish interview series, as well as KiScon and K/S fandom related news and updates in delightful bite-sized social media format. If you are active on either of these platforms, please consider giving us a follow!
And that's the news! Thank you all so much for taking the time to read this.
We've said this before but we'll say it again: we love to hear from y'all! If you have a question or comment about anything discussed in the newsletter or maybe a piece of K/S news we've missed, such as a new zine coming out or an online fanwork creation fest or anything else you think might be worthy of note, please let us know! You can get in touch by replying directly to this e-mail. :-) Yours in K/S,
T’Lara & StarshipLillian

Blog Update Post #3: Applications are open!
Hey there Kääryleet!
Things are getting started in earnest! We present to you all today, the artist application form! Ta ta-ta-ta tum!
And to go along with it, we have some guidelines for our resident creatives to follow:
The printed zine size will be 5 x 7 inches (roughly a5)
Submissions must be illustration or cosplay photography
Submissions must be 300dpi and CYMK for printing purposes
Submissions must be in portrait orientation
Applications will only be accepted via the form provided
SFW only*
Submissions must include Käärijä and/or anyone that he has performed with (what we call the “extended Käärijä universe”)**
No original characters
A copy of the printed zine will be sent to Jere’s mailbox in Vantaa, so applicants must be comfortable with their submissions being shown to he and his team
If deadlines cannot be met, applicants should contact a member of the fanzine team
We are accepting a minimum of 20 submissions, but will accept more if provided
Should we receive less than 20 submissions, we will default to an e-zine format
This is a volunteer-based project. There will be no profit for anyone involved.
*As a general rule of thumb, anything that Käärijä has done during a performance is acceptable (we know he can get a little naughty), but if you have doubts, please reach out to the team for clarification
**This includes, but is not limited to: Jukka/Allu/Jaako, Häärijä, the Dancers, Frank, Bojan, Tommy, etc
(Some of these rules and guidelines will be reiterated in the application form itself, so bare with the repetition)
And also a rough timeline for you folks:
Applications will be open up until and including October 21st
One week of selection following closing of applications
Selected applicants will have the following rough timeline:
Three weeks for thumbnails
Three weeks for primary sketch
One month for refined sketch/lineart
One month for final illustration
Following that, it will be in the team’s hands, so we will be giving updates with the printing process as it proceeds.
Once again, if there are any questions or concerns, please either contact a member of the team, or drop an Ask to our blog. Expect additional posts in the future regarding any tweaks to the timeline, deadlines, or submission requirements, as well as refining or clarification on what is required. Thank you all again for your patience and interest! We’re all so excited to see what we create!
With that, to hammer it home:
APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS OCTOBER 21ST.

And here we have the cover!! Splats Illustrated: Swimsuit Edit. 2024!!
🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉
And you read right, to allow people more time for more participants — The deadline has been pushed to July 31st!
Tumblr media
Splats Illustrated 2024 • A Sizzling Selection of Swimsuit Squids
This is it! The Splats Illustrated Swimsuit Edition: A SFW (and potentially NSFW) Splatoon fanzine themed around fun in the Summer sun!
Want to be a part of it? Here’s how to apply:
Send me a direct message to me on twitter ( @WhipEffect_Art ) or e-mail ( [email protected] ) with your intent to create an illustration, and some samples of your work
If you agree to the terms and conditions, and can produce your art in the allotted time, you’re in!
YOU MUST BE 18+ IF YOU WANT TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE NSFW EDITION! FULL STOP.
FAQ (UPDATED!):
What is the deadline?
JULY 31st — Provide me with your finished artwork, so I may assemble the PDF.
Can I post my finished illustration early?
I would prefer it if you didn’t. If you’d like to share WIPs or previews of your piece, you may provide me with images, and I can post them — Tagging your blog(s) and promoting the zine.
Does my art NEED to be Summer themed?
Yes, but how your squids enjoy the Summertime is wholly unique to them — If they like to stay inside and play video games as the sun shines outside, that’s just as valid as hitting the beach or lounging poolside. In the case of the NSFW edition, maybe sunbathing in the nude is more their speed.
Will my contribution be guaranteed to appear in the book?
If you want your artwork featured in the book, it needs to be completed and submitted by the deadline. If you feel you cannot meet the deadline, seriously consider if you want to be a part of this project.
Can I draw official characters instead of OCs?
Yes! While the initial idea was to showcase OCs, you’re welcome to draw original characters as well.
Can I commission someone to provide art for the book?
Yes! If the artist can submit it by the deadline.
Can I collaborate with another artist?
Yes! If you can submit it by the deadline.
Is this SFW?
Yes, the fanzine is predominantly SFW. If there are enough submissions, there will be a NSFW edition as well.
Can my contribution be NSFW?
Yes it may, and it will be compiled and in an additional PDF ft. other NSFW material. YOU MUST BE 18 OR OLDER TO CONTRIBUTE NSFW ARTWORK OR RECEIVE THE COMPLETED NSFW BOOK!
IMAGES SPECS: 8.5 x 11 inches @ 200 DPI (3400 x 4400 px)

Last Year’s Zine: https://whippleeffect.gumroad.com/l/splatsillustrated23
SUBMISSION:
Submit a PNG of your finished illustration
Include a short paragraph explaining your illustration

we win these!!!!!
yeah, so remember that submission thing I briefly mentioned wherein the adventure lay in the fact that I had to look myself up to provide links to my social media (yes this the only platform I can stand to use, no I’m not sure what that says about me as a person) and discovered those, frankly, very tone setting tags I wrote promptly forgot about?
yeah that little shindig?
ummmm I guess they liked it?
cause this dropped into my inbox
ahhehehuahs
I’d crop their names but they’re all over the issues, so I presume it’s fine
But yeah, this is a thing that happened
In a month I will technically be a published author, that’s…. holy shit that’s astounding
The e-zine is free, I’ll come link it when the December edition is published, but yeah holy shit
can’t believe one of the biggest memories of my early professional life is going to be intrinsically linked to ‘I throw around animal death like a well loved frisbee’
But, as you heretics have deigned to read this far, a highlight from my upcoming publication; also I have given you actual content in like two weeks and I’m starting to feel bad. also I did a teensy fucky-wucky and haven’t reviewed this until tumblr’s refusing to let me copy-paste forced me to type this by hand and made me realize that I should’ve made sure I was happy with the first part of this before submitting it for other human beings, but if I wasn’t using these wax wings to fight the sun what good would they be
Anyway here’s wonderwall, or as I’ve christened this, Radium Mind
It was the morning, and the day laid before me,
possibilities and structure offering themselves to me, mine to choose.
the birds lived in a plane above, flying and screeching and singing and dying,
I saw them in silence, and they shrieked to fill the void.
it does not offend me; faced with myself, I would shriek too.
the worms wriggled in the ground below me,
sunlight a harbinger only of death to those who live without it.
the worms might scream too, I would not know;
they are not as loud as the birds,
and the earth between us would distort the sound past understanding, anyway.
I stood between them, for the lack of any other place to stand,
and separated we carried out our lives, the gap crossed only,
by esoteric diseases with little interest in our self-imposed separation,
living only as it knows how to be,
the casts inflicted on ourselves merely anecdotal,
incidents it has no reason but to forget soon.
alright heretics, this has been battered through my drafts for long enough, so I’ll thrown you some language you can spit at, sorry for the insane fucking post, this is definitely tone consistent, I’m self-aware I’m just not willing to do anything about it.
How else would I tag for whale corpses and thinly veiled threats for family members who aren’t allowed to parasitically infect my sense of self anymore, well loved frisbees and teensy-weensy, girl-bossy, fucky-wuckys. I am as Icarus, and the sun can kill me as it would kill a god, with dramatis and weight, and a lieu of spectacular fucking paintings.
Have an excellent goddamn evening heretics, and keep your abhorrent minds as crunchity as your foul souls can withstand.
As always, to you.

Q: How will the magazine be structured?
A: The structure of the zine will be arranged by our Layout Mod and is determined by what makes sense aesthetically or chronologically based on our final submissions pool! While we aren’t looking for a specific number of artwork/writing based on the pre-train/on train/post-train categories, contributors will be required to fill out our Idea Claims sheet by the end of the 1st Check-In to ensure that there is enough thematic variety and not too much overlap in concept.
Q: Are we going to have something like a discord server for this zine to interact with each other?
A: Yes! Our team will be communicating mainly through Discord as it’ll be the quickest and most efficient way for us to work together. The server’s main goal is to share project updates/info with the whole crew and to provide creative resources, feedback, and positive support throughout the course of the zine. Contributors will receive an invite to the Rhymin’ private server upon acceptance into the project.
While joining the Discord is highly recommended, it’s not required! For those who wish not to join, we’ll keep in touch with you mainly through email for major Check-Ins, but you’re also welcome to DM our head mods if you’d like private feedback or have any questions.
Q: I’m not familiar with the zine-making process and want to know more about how the zine will be made? How will the team work together?
A: Upon acceptance onto the project, contributors will have roughly 2 months to create never-before-seen art/writing/music inspired by Ryan and Min-Gi’s lives within the canon universe, and will be independently responsible for finishing their submissions. Art templates and guidelines will be provided to all contributors as soon as participants have accepted their spot. Submissions are due on a specific date (currently July 22-24), but we’ll be keeping track of progress through check-in dates to make sure everyone is in a good place to complete their work.
Our team will be communicating mainly through Discord and e-mail to provide the latest updates on the project. Feedback/constructive criticism from both mods and fellow contributors will be available in the Discord for anyone who wants peer review, but our mod team can also provide private feedback via DM’ing our head mods for anyone who wants it.
Once all pieces have been received, our Layout Mod will format and create a digital version of the book while the rest of the mod team arranges for the physical production of the zine and merch. As previously mentioned, contributors are only responsible for submitting content-our mod team handles the logistics for the funding and creation of the zine!
Stay Tuned for Part 3 Coming Soon!

I'm about to participate in my first zine which is making me nervous/excited. Do you have any advice about composition and colors? I definitely want to make sure the image doesn't appear too dark in print form and my contrast in my shading is visible.
Yooo congratulations!!! :D :D :D That’s so exciting!
And ahh sure I can offer some advice! :>
I wish I could break this up in smaller chunks but this hellsite’s bullet point system is GARBAGE so sorry in advance for the giant blocks of text
Pay attention to bleed guidelines! Let’s say you’re in a zine and one of the mods shares the dimensions of the book with you. For example, “2550 px x 3300 px at 300dpi, plus a 4mm bleed.” You probably know this, but the bleed of a page is sort of like the “danger zone” lmao. The bleed may end up being cropped in order to fit your piece into the book. You basically don’t want to put anything important in the bleed area. You should still absolutely fill the areas-- most zines expect pieces that utilize the entire page-- but don’t stick anything important there, like text in a comic, or half of someone’s face, or details that you really want to see. (Some zines provide contributors with templates that not only let you immediately access a document of the correct dimensions for the zine, but also include the bleed! Never take these mods for granted, they’re very awesome to do that hahaha) ;;
Color’s a bit trickier since, if you’re working digitally, every monitor can show you something different and it can be hard to tell if something looks right. :/ But don’t worry!
Printed media is done in CMYK color! Digital media is typically done in RBG color! You’ll notice that CMYK is... much duller than RGB haha. Certain programs like Photoshop will let you switch between RGB and CMYK on the fly as you’re working, which is pretty useful. While you’re coloring, most art programs will let you know if you’re using a color in RGB that won’t be supported in CMYK, so try to adjust if you find yourself dabbling too much in unsupported palettes. Most zines offer physical and digital versions and will ask you to submit RGB and CMYK versions of your piece. Once you finish your work in one color mode, save it, then switch to the other color mode and make adjustments as necessary.
Be wary of working with too much dark color. That’s not to say you should steer clear of dark pieces-- you just need to be mindful of how dark your piece gets. Because in CMYK, colors tend to darken and smooth out, so if you submit something too dark, your piece might not look as awesome as it does on your screen :( I’m not one of those artists who’d tell you to never color with black, but I would suggest avoiding trying to blend with black and, say, dark blue or dark purple in print. I feel like that would run a huge risk of being too dark in print. If you have the means to access a color printer, you can try printing your zine piece to see if it turns out okay! :D I understand this can be a costly and wasteful use of a printer if it’s just for testing purposes-- I only have a black and white printer at home myself-- but if you’re really worried and you have a color printer... *shrugs*
Communicate. Most zines will use a Discord server to stay in touch with everyone. If you don’t have a Discord and don’t want to make one, make sure you are constantly checking your e-mail or social media DMs for updates and requests from your mod team. It can be very hard as a mod if you spend weeks and weeks trying to get a hold of a contributor that’s suddenly gone ghost ;___;
Don’t be afraid to ask the mods questions! Your mods are there to help you. They know the ins and outs of the zine-- what the dimensions are, how the zine will be formatted, submission folders, etc. (They should also be able to help advise you if you should make any color adjustments to your piece, to tie into my last point!) If you need an extension for a check-in, don’t hesitate to do so, but DO try to ask in advance instead of on check-in day. As someone who’s experienced a string of emergencies this year that caused me to request last-minute extensions on deadlines, I know that this isn’t always possible. But let’s say you’re swamped with school or you have a very important work event near a deadline that’s taking up much of your free time and energy. Let the mods know you’re swamped. If they’re good mods (which I’m sure they are), they will be understanding and happy to work with you by offering an extension that will help suit your needs. Of course, there are hard deadlines in every project with expectations from manufacturers and promised release dates, so if you find yourself overwhelmed or unable to submit your piece for the zine by a certain point, you may not be able to submit a piece. But life happens. Be kind to yourself <3
Don’t be shy to interact with other contributors too! :> (Hypocritical of me since I’m very shy and don’t talk very much in the zine servers I’m in except for Sora Zine but I was a mod for that zine so I had to be more present lmao) But here is a group of awesome creators who share a passion with you! :> Share memes, talk about your faves, share WIPs, ask for advice! :D You might leave a zine with some new friends :3
Have fun! I remember how nervous I was when I worked on my first zine piece, but try to remember to have fun when you work on it! Pick a concept that you’ll enjoy working on that will challenge your creativity but not overwhelm you. Try to work on your piece from check-in to check-in, gradually over time, instead of just cramming everything into the night before a deadline. Your piece will come out better for it, and you’ll save yourself a lot of stress and late nights. :>
Again, congrats on getting into your first zine-- many happy returns, if you’re so inclined to join more <3

Update I: Final Schedule & Applications
Good evening, vampire enthusiasts!
Thank you for your patience with us so far. The mods have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to finalize the details of the project, and we are here with our first main (and substantial) update!
APPLICATIONS
In order to determine the participants of this project, the mods hope to select final contributors via an application process. These applications will open tomorrow, October 26th, 5pm EST and close on December 1st, 11:59pm EST. To provide some additional insights on application requirements, as well as what we are expecting for the final zine pieces, we have put together a detailed Submission Guidelines document. Please make sure to review this document before submitting any applications.
PROJECT SCHEDULE
Aside from the application period, we have mapped out the schedule for the zine. Please click here to access the full schedule. Otherwise, check out the highlights below:
DEC 12 | Application Results E-mailed
JAN 09, 2021 | Contributors Announced
JAN - MAY | Creation Period
JUN 2021 | Pre-Orders Open
SEP / OCT | Zines + Merch Shipped
Moreover, throughout the application period, we plan to share some longer introduction posts for mods and invited guests. Stay tuned!
PROJECT FUNDS
In addition, as announced in our Interest Check Results, we have decided that the project will be split-profit. This is how that will work:
The main project will be hosted on kickstarter in June of 2021. We will be offering the zine, the 18+ booklet, and merch items in various tiers. Money will be raised for the project via pledges until we reach our project goal. All funds will go towards production of the anthology and additional merchandise. Remaining profit will then be split evenly amongst all contributors.
After the kickstarter ends, we will order the amount of books and merchandise sold, as well as excess/buffer items based on MOQs and other financial guidance. Books will be sent to buyers, and contributors will all receive free copies of the book and merchandise.
Once all shipped items have been received, we will launch a leftover store on a secondary host website, such as Bigcartel. On this site, we will sell any remaining stock (aside from kickstarter exclusives). Profits from this sale will then go to a charity organization of our choice.
More details on our project plans will be shared further down the line.
SUMMARY
Applications open tomorrow, and close on Dec 1st.
We have finalized the rest of our timeline.
The project will be split-profit, with the first sale hosted on kickstarter.
And that’s all for now, folks! We can’t wait to see those applications start rolling in. Again, we highly suggest taking a look at our guidelines if you are interested in applying. While some things will be clearer once application forms are shared on Monday, don’t hesitate to direct any questions our way, as we’ll be happy to answer them.

The Sunnydale Herald Newsletter - Sunday, September 13th
Owen: The thing about Emily Dickinson I love is, is she's just so incredibly morbid. A lot of loss, a lot of death... It gets me. With a lot about bees, for some reason. Buffy: Did she have a tragic and romantic life? With a lotta bees? Owen: Quiet. Kind of sequestered and uneventful. Which I can really relate to. I... don't get out much.

Project Details
“You Gave Me a Home”
An anthology of fanworks dedicated to Steve and Tony from Marvel and Avengers. The zine will be available to purchase via pre-orders, and these funds will go into the production of the physical book as well as merch/rewards. Additional revenue will possibly be used to produce extra copies, with the goal of selling them later to donate to a charity of our choice. Our current goal is for pre-orders to open in July 2020.
REBRANDING NOTICE: After some thought, we’ve decided to “rebrand” the project and just call it “SteveTony Zine” rather than "Stony Writers Zine.” Our original purpose was to draw attention to the fact that there will be more written content than is usual for projects like these, as well as the collaborative facet to the zine. However, we realized that the title suggested writers-only and might be a deterrent for artists, thus the decision to rebrand.
Please note the following changes:
Tumblr URL: stevetonyzine.tumblr.com
OVERVIEW
The project will be organized as follows:
Applications will go live for a set amount of time (around a one-month period). Once applications are open, artists and writers will be asked to share their strongest pieces and link to portfolios of their work. After applications close, the moderators will go through every single submission, deliberate, and then select a final group of contributors to participate in the zine.
The contributors will be contacted, and are required to have a discord account. They’ll be invited to a server which will be used for all information, announcements and updates, as well as to keep track of everyone’s progress on their pieces.
During the creation period, which will span for several months, artists and writers will all work on original pieces for the zine and submit check-ins at required intervals. There will be a final deadline for pieces to be turned in by contributors.
After the deadline, the zine will be available for people to pre-order. Simultaneously, the mods will be working on designing and formatting the final zine. Once shop closes, a final number of zines will be ordered and shipped to all purchasers. Contributors and moderators will be compensated with a free copy of the zine and any merchandise.
All products will be shipped out, and after a certain date, contributors are free to share their work in any form. Artists and writers retain all copyrights to their work.
Tumblr media
The zine will consist of fiction, poetry, art, and comics. Fiction writers will have the option of writing a short piece (“flash fiction”) or a longer-than-average piece. Poetry can be in any form (ex: sonnets, sestinas, prose poems, haikus, free verse, etc). Most of the artwork will be collaborative; this means it’ll pair with the writing. However, the art doesn’t have to be created “big bang” style, and can also be “reverse bang” style where the written piece is created to accompany the art. Comics can be created wholly by artists, or by artist-writer collaborations. We’ll also be producing merch for the zine.
Moreover, we’ve decided that all content in the zine will be safe for work (SFW). Depending on interest, there is a possibility of adding a NSFW booklet as a supplement to the project, only available for 18+ audiences.
Tumblr media
After looking at past projects and weighing the pros and cons of different options, we’ve decided that the pre-orders for the final zine will be done via kickstarter. The flexibility of pledges, visibility, and interface of the website are really appealing to us and we believe it’ll be the best way to fund the printing of the books.
Once the project has concluded, we will consider doing additional sales. This would be where leftover items (minus some backer-exclusives, so a smaller range of products) are sold on a storefront to those who couldn’t initially fund the project, in order to help support a charity of our choice and get rid of final stock. We are still discussing this aspect of the project; we may wait until after contributors are selected to give everyone a chance to weigh in on the decision.
Tumblr media
Due to the amount of interest generated and the expected number of applications, we’ve come up with a way to maximize the amount of contributors that will be accepted.
Essentially, accepted contributors will be sorted into two categories: physical content, and digital-exclusive content. Those placed in the first category will be, in mod opinions, best-fitted for the zine. Those in the second category will also be amongst our top picks for the zine, but ones that we currently don’t have space for in the physical book. Thus, the digital PDF of the zine will be twice as large as the physical, with contributors from both categories. And, if we meet a certain stretch goal of orders or funds raised, we will then move digital-exclusive content to the physical book, thereby expanding it into a much larger zine.
Additionally, we’ll be accepting several “pinch-hitters,” who aren’t guaranteed a spot in the zine but may be contacted if accepted contributors drop out of the project for any reason. Consider it a wait-list of sorts.
BREAKDOWN
PHYSICAL:
This many contributors will be featured in the physical book + merchandise.
12-15 writers
17-20 artists
3 guest artists
2 guest writers
5 merch artists
DIGITAL-ONLY:
These contributors will only be present in the digital version alongside our previous physical selections. They will be added to the physical book if a stretch goal is met.
8-10 writers
10-12 artists
PINCH HITTERS:
These contributors will be selected as possible replacements if any of the previous contributors drop out.
10 writers
10 artists
So that’s our current summary of the project details discussed so far! We hope this clears up a lot of questions about how the project will be run, and how the final zine will be created and printed.
Coming soon: Mod Introductions, FAQ, and Application Information!
Meanwhile, please reblog and spread the word about this upcoming project! Thank you <3

Leftover Sale Open
Hello everyone!
To make things easier for us, we made a form to sell the leftovers of our project!
You can find the link to it here (be sure to copy paste! Let us know if there are any problems with it):
forms.gle/UHK75mPJ5By4juJm7
Please check the merch you want and we will send you an invoice as soon as we can.
You can buy our leftover prints and the pdf of the fanzine here: ecwid.com/store/looveel/
The form will close once everything is sold out or on October 5th. Everything will be sent out during the following week until October 13th. Everything else will also be forever unavailable including the pdf of the zine and the prints.
Here’s a preview of everything:
Tumblr media
Previews for the zine can be seen on our tumblr or twitter Moments along with the fully shown submissions of our contributors.
It's first come first serve so please keep in mind you might not be able to get everything you wanted. If you don't get any news from us, it means that you were unable to get all of your choices on time. Of course, we will regularly update the form to avoid anything like this happening.
After this period (after October 13th) once everything is shipped out and gotten, we will send money to our chosen charity and post proof of payment and after that we will stop posting and responding over social media as the project will be officially over. However, we will still be available to anyone who purchased something from us via e-mail in case of refunds, missing items and etc. If something isn’t sold during this period, it will be sold at future cons and the money from the leftovers of the leftovers will be saved for charity.
If you have any question please don't hesitate to contact us here on tumblr or on: Twitter: twitter.com/Zinestiria Email:  [email protected]
or each mod individually: Looveel: twitter.com/L0u_Yume Crazay: twitter.com/crazayd
Thank you once again for your patronage!

JULY 17th — Provide me with your finished artwork, so I may assemble the PDF.
