Acceptance is a difficult emotion to navigate.
Knowing Dylan wouldnât be little forever, you tried to convince yourself that you still had some time left for cozy snuggles, for him asking you to watch a movie with him, secretly observe him play with his dinosaur toys, or to hear him call you âmommy.â But the truth was he had outgrown all of those things and you were having a hard time accepting that.
Dylan was your second baby but he wasnât a baby anymore. He went from playing with toy cars to racing go-karts with his friends. His once round chubby little face had started to thin out, he started styling his wild dark brown hair before school every day and suddenly he didnât trust you to pick out his clothes anymore. Dylan had asked for you or Billy to take him shopping for school clothes because he had his own taste now, he knew what he liked and didnât like, and he wanted to be the one to pick out his own clothes.
You were still getting used to your daughter, Anna Raven, growing up also. She was 14 now and her own little person with her own ideas, likes and dislikes. She was on her way to becoming a young adult even though it killed you to watch her grow up when it seemed like it was just yesterday she was getting her first pair of toddler Converse sneakers and saying her first words.
But Dylan was your precious baby boy, your little man, and, like Anna, he was growing up before your eyes. He was 10 years old, into playing video games, taking guitar lessons, and really enjoyed hearing about all the pranks his father and Uncle Frank pulled on each other while they were in the Marines. He was always just in complete awe of his dad serving his country being a marine.
While Dylan was at his guitar lesson, Billy came home a little early and found you in the living room.
âWhat are ya doinâ, sweet girl?â Asked Billy, as he walked toward the couch where you were seated.
With a slight hitch in your voice, you replied, âLooking at Dylanâs baby pictures.â
Billy sat down next to you, looked down at the open pages, and you watched as his lips curled into a slight smile.
He pointed to one at the top of the page. Dylan was sitting in his high chair with cake and frosting smeared across his face. His fingers spread far apart on his chubby little hands to help him grab as much cake as possible to shovel into his mouth and his cheeks were so full of cake, he looked like a squirrel storing acorns for winter.
âHis first birthday. He destroyed that cake, remember?â Said Billy, with a slight chuckle.
You laughed a little too as you swiped a tear away from your cheek.
âThe T-Rex didnât see that coming, did he.â You said with a warm smile.
Billy could hear the hitch in your voice like you were fighting back tears and you really were, they burned the back of your eyes as you tried to keep yourself from weeping. He knew you were barely holding yourself together when he drew you in close, your ear flush against his chest, and you could hear the gentle rhythm of his heart.
âItâs ok, baby. You can cry if you need to.â Said Billy, kissing the top of your head.
Your gentle sob broke through, âHeâs not a baby anymore, Billy! Sometimes IâŠI miss when they were little, thatâs all. Annaâs a teenager, sheâs starting to do more things with her friends and is very involved in school. And Dylan, he used to be my little buddy, we used to do a lot of things together and now heâs taking guitar lessons, actually combing his hair and flashing girls that perfect Russo smile of yours.â You said with dryness in your throat.
Billy softly pressed his lips to your forehead, you could feel a wide smile stretch across his face, and a slight chuckle escaped the side of his mouth. Like a cat, you buried your face into his green Henley as his long arms squeezed you tightly.
Your voice was somewhat muffled as you said, âYouâre laughing at me, Billy.â
âOnly a little.â He replied. âBut thatâs what theyâre supposed to do, sweet girl. We prep them for the real world, teach them not to be assholes, guide them in the right direction and off they go. They still need us, baby, but I know what you meanâŠsometimes I miss when they were little too.â
You remembered how nervous Billy was when he found out he was going to be a father, he never had one so he was scared he wouldnât be a good one. He watched Frank with his kids and he loved being an uncle to Lisa and Junior but knowing he was going to have a child of his own, Billy was scared he wouldnât be good at it.
He surprised himself at how he took to it so naturally when Little Raven was born. The first time he held her, fed her, changed herâŠand although it was still difficult, it was easier than he thought it would be and by the time Dylan came around, Billy was a professional.
He really was a great dad.
Both Anna and Dylan were always very relaxed when Billy held them with the exception of the time period where Dylan always wanted mommy, not daddy. They rarely cried or struggled and instead, just melted into his arms like you did when he held you in an embrace.
You remembered telling him then, âThey trust you, baby. You make them feel safe and protected, just like you do for me.â
Inhaling the scent of green soap from his shirt, you replied, âNot fair baby, youâre using my words against me.â
âWell my wife IS a lot smarter than I am. She knows what sheâs talking about.â Said Billy.
When you raised your chin up to meet his gaze, Billy was fondly looking down at you with his endless brown eyes and the loving smile that heâs given you thousands of times. He inched his face closer to you and softly pressed his lips to yours, they tasted like peppermint and his hand cupped your cheek.
After setting the photo album down next to you on the couch, you crawled into his lap, brushed the bristles of his beard with your thumbs, and deepened the kiss as a low growl escaped his lips.
Billyâs hands traveled to your ass which took you by surprise and you let out a yelp.
âYa know, beautiful, Anna is just upstairs and Dylan should be home any minute from his lesson. You keep kissing me like that, itâs gonna lead to somethinâ the kids shouldnât see.â He said with a smile in between kisses.
With a slight pout and a quick bat of your eyelashes, you said, âOkaaaaaay, will you play with me later?â
Outside, a car door slammed shut and then you heard a key in the lock.
âJust try and stop me, sweet girl.â Said Billy, as he kissed the tip of your nose.
The front door closed and Dylan walked into the living room carrying his guitar case.
âHey Mom, hey Dad.â Dylan said. âWhaaaaat were you guys doinâ?â He asked with narrowed eyes.
âLookinâ at your baby pictures! You wanna see?â You asked excitedly.
âMaybe later, I gotta go practice. Oh, when Ms. Mullaney dropped me off she was talkinâ about this old movie she likes that she thinks Iâd like called Aliens. You know it, right Mom? You know every movie on earth!â He said.
âExcuse me? Old movie?!!â You said with an elevated voice.
Billy jumped in.
âUh, baby heâs not wrong, it is an old movie.â He said.
Deflated, you replied, âYeah, youâre right it is oldâŠI just didnât wanna say it out loud because that means Iâm old.â
Billy and Dylan started to laugh, both of them exuding that perfect smile that you loved so much. Your not-so-little boy was an exact copy of his father from his wild dark brown hair, intense brown eyes, and, of course, the million dollar smile.
Billy said, âAnd just because itâs old, doesnât make it any less awesomeâŠjust like your mother. Iâm kidding! Iâm kidding, baby!â
He started to laugh as a long drawn out gasp escaped your lips.
âBilly Russo! How dare you!â You said as you tried to keep a straight face but ended up laughing too.
âDad did say you were awesome too, Mom.â Said Dylan with a reassuring smile. âSo, will you watch it with me later, Mom? Please?â
The tears stung the back of your eyes. Trying your best to not let them fall, you replied, âOf course I will, buddy.â
With an excited smile, he replied, âCool! Well, Iâm gonna go practice for a little while. Be ready to watch when Iâm done, ok?â
âI will be ready!â You said enthusiastically as you watched him walk up the stairs to his room.
As soon as his door closed, your tears fell but Billy was right there to catch them before they streaked down your cheeks and placed a gentle kiss on your lips.
âSee sweet girl, heâs getting older but Dylan still wants to hang out with his mom.â He said with a wink. âI love you.â
You replied, âI love you too, handsome. Ooh! We get to play our favorite game! Ok, 20 bucks says heâs gonna start his practice session with Come as You Are â Nirvana. Whatâs your guess?â
Billy pondered for a minute and scratched at his beard with his long fingers before he said, âSmoke on the Water â Deep Purple.â
The two of you shook hands and waited patiently for Dylan to fire up his guitar. It was so quiet in the living room, you could hear a pin drop before the familiar riff of Come as You Are traveled from Dylanâs room down to the living room where you were.
Pumping both fists in the air, an excited smile stretched across your lips as you let out a taunting laugh.
âHA!! Pay up, baby!â You said.
âSHIT!â Exclaimed Billy as he pulled a twenty out of his pocket and aggressively slapped it into your hand. He hated to lose at anything. âAre you cheating? Iâve lost like four in a row now!â
âI donât think I like your tone, lieutenant and I resent your insinuation that I would use our child to cheat.â You said with a narrowed expression and a sly grin.
âAlright, can we call a truce?â Billy said with his hands up.
You snaked and clasped your hands around his neck before inching yourself closer to him. Your lips ghosted over his before you said, âIâll give you a truce, if you kiss me like you mean it, Mr. Russo.â
Billy touched the tip of his tongue to the roof of his mouth before purring in your ear, âYes, maâam.â
Both of your children were growing up, exploring, and doing their own things but you and Billy will always have the wonderful memories of creating and enjoying your beautiful little family.

How Assessment for Learning has transformed International Education
School Leaders in the modern era need to be conscious of implementing AfL in a way that is faithful to the original research and the work of subsequent researchers, as well as drawing on the best practices that have been developed over the past two decade
Paul Black and Dylan Williamâs work on assessment for learning has had a significant impact on transforming international education. Their research, which focused on the use of formative assessment, has highlighted the importance of ongoing feedback, questioning, and self-assessment in promoting student learning and achievement. Their approach to assessment for learning involves creating aâŠ

Hello my friend!
I came up with a little something for you, I hope you like it and as far as the second part of your ask, I have something else thatâs almost done as a part of another ask. But I hope you enjoy this! â„ïž
The Fight for Her Affection
Photos are not mine. They are courtesy of Pinterest/Google.
Pairing: Tattoo Artist Billy Russo x F! Reader, plus their little firecrackers, Anna Raven and Dylan
Warnings: maybe a swear word or two, pure fluff
Word Count: 1.3K-ish
Summary: Part of The Sweetest Pain Series. Rest of the series linked HERE. Someone in the Russo family is very possessive of you at the moment and itâs not your husband. Your baby boy just loves to snuggle with his mom and Billy is feeling a little left out.
You and Billy had a couple of rules when it came to the kids sleeping in your bed with you which was it was only allowed when they were sick or for a few minutes in the morning before getting ready for the day.
If they got scared or they couldnât sleep, you or Billy would get up, put them back to bed, and stay with them until they fell asleep. They both needed to learn to sleep in their own rooms and beds but youâd always be there to help them if they needed it.
Most of the time, all it would take is a short story or a song to get them to fall asleep. But there were other times where you would end up falling asleep in their rooms before they did. Little Raven very rarely had nights where she couldnât fall asleep or had bad dreams.
Dylan on the other hand when he was around two, almost three, years old was famous for wanting all of your time including when you all were supposed to be sleeping. That little boy would test your patience almost nightly between not wanting to go to bed and telling you he was âscaredâ to go to bed.
What made it worse was Dylan never wanted Billy to read him a story, sing him a song, or even sit with him in the rocking chair to try and get him to go back to sleep. âWant Mommy, not Daddy,â Dylan would say, shaking his head. It made Billy slightly upset for a couple of reasons; the number one reason being he wanted to be able to comfort his son but also he wanted to be able to sleep next to his wife at night, not wake up to find you out of bed and asleep with little Dylan, also asleep, on your chest.
But he did love catching those little mother and son moments where the warm soft glow from the lamp delicately showed off the angles and features of both of your faces which made him smile. As he leaned against the doorframe, he folded his arms across his chest and just gazed at the two of you fondly before trying to get you to come back to bed.
While Anna Ravenâs physical features favored you and Billy equally, little Dylan was a carbon copy of his father from the wild ebony hair to the glass like obsidian colored eyes and he already had the heartbreaker smile perfected.
Some of the women that worked at the kidsâ daycare commented to you that Dylan was already a little flirt and knew exactly how to smile to get his way every time which made Billy proud and nervous at the same time.
He would always watch you for a few minutes before gently waking you by kissing your temple and whispering, âOur son gets to cuddle with you more than I do, ya know. Come back to bed, sweet girl.â
Billyâs tone is lighthearted and fun but you know there is some truth to it and feel bad that your husband feels a little neglected lately. After you gingerly placed Dylan in his bed, you turned to Billy and said, âIâm so sorry baby. Come on, Iâll make it up to you.â
You both feel better after a decent nightâs âsleep.â Finding time to be alone with each other after having two kids was a little more difficult but with the help of family and friends, the two of you seemed to make it work.
Waking up to Billyâs kisses on your shoulder always brings a smile to your face but he has to stop because you hear the sounds of four little feet bolting down the hallway. Little Raven helped Dylan out of his crib/bed every morning so they could jump into bed with you, mostly on weekends when you could sleep in a little.
Without a word, she would wedge herself in between you and Billy, silently demanding her own snuggle time with you. Your little girl was very smart and she figured out that Dylan needed your attention at night so she would get her hugs, snuggles and love in during random times of the day. And in the evening, she loved spending time with her father reading, coloring, or watching a movie.
Watching Dylan develop his personality, Billy mentioned the traits he had picked up from you like he had a very big heart, he loved all animals, he was funny, and actually both of your kids had the tendency to be âlittle firecrackers,â a term of endearment he called you when you were being a little bit feisty.
One of Billyâs traits that he thought he had passed on to his son was that Dylan had a tendency to be a little possessive whether it be with his toys or his mother. You could never force Billy to talk about things if he didnât want to but you always knew that it bothered him slightly when Dylan preferred you over Billy.
âItâs almost like he doesnât want me near you, baby.â Billy had finally said in a frustrated tone when it bothered him enough. âWhich I guess I understand because I donât like other men near you either. So this is my fault, really.â
You called Anna over, âLittle Raven, can you play with your brother for a minute please? I need to talk to Daddy.â
âOk Mommy, come on Dylan.â Anna Raven took Dylan by the hand and brought him over to her little table where she liked to draw and color.
You laced your fingers with Billyâs, led him into the kitchen and made sure Anna and Dylan were playing nicely before starting a deep conversation.
Cupping his cheek with your hand, you looked up at him through your long dark lashes and brushed the bristles of his beard. You could feel the tension in his body and watched his jaw clench in frustration as he tried to avoid looking at you.
âBillyâŠlook at me please.â You said affectionately. âBaby, Dylan is a toddler. Heâll learn just like Anna learned to share. All little ones go through that stage, my love. Are you upset because heâs doing it to you?â
Billy nodded. You could see that he didnât think he would have fight for your affection with his own child and he felt guilty that he was having these feelings.
âI swear he has the same look in his eyes that I get when I see another man checking you out. Iâm his father!â Said Billy.
You inched closer to Billy, snaked your arms around his neck and he pulled you in close by your waist. Touching your forehead to his, Billy closed his eyes to relish in the physical contact with you, his wife, and the love of his life.
âYouâre right Billy. You ARE his father and itâs your job, well our job, to teach our son to be a decent human being just like weâre teaching Anna. WE are the boss of HIM. If heâs old enough to start pushing back, then heâs old enough to start getting punished for his actions. So itâs time to start teaching him that kind of behavior is not acceptable, ok?â You said, holding his gaze.
âI will say, itâs a little funny, Iâm a grown man being iced out by my toddler who wonât let me near my own wife.â Said Billy with a slight chuckle. âWeâre the boss of him, huh?â
âYes, we areâŠto both of our children. Iâm not raising them to be little assholes.â You said with a warm smile. âAnd Billy?â
âYeah baby?â Asked Billy.
âItâs not always a bad thing to be possessive of the ones you love.â You said, gently pressing your lips to his. âI love you, handsome.â
âI love you too, sweet girl.â Billy whispered, returning your kiss. Parting your lips with his tongue, you dissolved completely into his kiss as your tongue intertwined with his.
From the living room, you heard Anna calling for you.
âMommy!! Dylan took my cray-on!!â She yelled.
You and Billy laughed.
âWell, time to go give him a lesson in sharing. You ready? Dad?â You asked.
Billy winked at you and replied, âLetâs do it, baby.â
