Toguro Brothers 30th Anniversary DXF Figure

Scheduled to be released on November 21 2023, the "Toguro Brothers" will finally appear as crane game prizes! Based on the 30th Anniversary Illustrations, Elder Toguro comes with replacement parts, and can be placed on his younger brother's shoulders!

Since those figures are based on the 30th anniversary illustrations, I wonder if Sensui, Itsuki, Youko Kurama, Genkai, Botan, Yukina, and the 3 Kings + Enki will have any chance to be released next year.

In the year of 2023, we had Yusuke (March), Kuwabara (April), Kurama (May), Hiei (June), Koenma (August) and The Toguro Brothers (November). I wanna display everybody together!

Ramble about your favourite character.

There is so much I could say about Yuri Petrov. He was easily my favourite when I initially watched TaiBani many years ago, but I grew even more attached to him in S2 Cour 2 Episodes 19-20 because he lost his mother and I was dealing with the loss of my own father. He became so important to me because I was able to process some of the complex emotions I had during that time, as well as my grief. My father died of alcoholism complications caused by a lifetime of addiction. This reminded me of Legend, even though he was never violent like Legend. But Legend's pitiful "Tasukete..." (Help me...) in Episode 20 struck a chord in how hopeless my Dad felt at times. And how powerless he was against his addiction. And when Yuri seemingly imagined having peace with his father later in that episode, it reminded me of when I accepted my father as-is, flaws and all and let him back into my life a few years before he passed, though still at an arms length to define my boundaries.

As such I feel that Yuri is a very important part of my life now, even though our ways of handling parental loss in adulthood, are drastically different. My tattoos of him are actually reminders of how he helped me grieve the loss of my father and how I forgave my dad in the end for all the hurt he caused in my life.

Let me shift into something more lighter...

I suppose this could veer into my favourite piece of Yuri trivia (Day 23) but if I feel I have to mention it. Yuri doesn't wear make up to hide his scar.

As previously translated by me in Hero Gossips here, the scar is invisible, and appears when he becomes agitated (Hero Gossips, pg 57).

Yuri's face has a handprint imprinted on his face from when he was grabbed by his father, who was burned by his blue flames. It's usually hidden, but it appears when his emotions are high, reminding him of the sins he committed when he was young.

This was mentioned again in Exclusive Interviews Vol 8 pg 14 here:

From time to time, even now, the burn marks he suffered in the past appear.

Also he doesn't wear lipstick. Katsura specifically says this in Design Works 3 pg 114 in his colour chart.

図口紅ではなく血色が悪い。

His lips are smoke pink. It's not lipstick but it's a bad colour.

Lastly I think his signature appeared on the box for his DXF figure (#10). Here on the box.

I hate that the vendors halls at cons have been taken over by new age merch businesses, like good for the new business owners and stuff but... back in the day, vendors had hard to find items, collectibles, vintage etc. To sell and you could find some amazing gems at their booths. But now? It's 90% dxf figures and the most generic shit that you'd find at any box lunch in any mall. And every single booth has nothing but that. Like... the only score was rubber straps. Which should be normal and not considered a good find....... there's rlly hardly any point to even go to the vendors hall anymore.

Yu Yu Hakusho 30th Anniversary Commemorative Illustrations 5 - Final Part

Art by: Hirotaka Marufuji, Chief Animation Director of the Yu Yu Hakusho OVAs, released in the 25th Anniversary Blu-ray BOX in 2018.

Studio Pierrot has unveiled two more new illustrations in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Yu Yu Hakusho anime. This time, they designed Yusuke and Enki/Raizen/Yomi/Mukuro. They also released the art of Hiei/Yukina, Botan and Genkai without the fancy background. The Pierrot Store announced that more merch is on the way. So, stay tuned! I think we can expect more 30th anniversary DXF figures as well.

Like they did with the first, second, third, and fourth commemorative illustrations, they've continued the redraw in anime style of the kanzenban covers designed by Togashi in 2004-2005.

This project began in 2022 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary and ends today, on October 10, 2023, when the Yu Yu Hakusho anime commemorates its 31st Anniversary!

On his Twitter, Hirotaka Marufuji thanked everyone for the opportunity to be the original illustrator of the 30th anniversary kanzenban-anime illustrations.

Well, I still hope to see a remake of the anime some day.

I'm late in the game for Taibani merch even if I originally watched S1 back when it aired (around 2011/2012). It was during a time when I had stopped collecting anything animanga related and was primarily purging my existing collectibles. Obviously Yuri (who was my fave even back then), has made me start collecting shit again.

The 2022 reprints of the Sakakibara manga along with the Sakakibara artbook and Limited Edition original printing of the Vol 5 tankoubon featuring Luna/Yuri arrived today. They were supposed to be a Christmas present from my hubs.

I also previously acquired a set of the Rascal x Taibani acrylic mascots because this set came with 2 Rascal Lunas. One for my keys and one to keep mint and sealed. I stuck one of these Bunny's(?) on my spare keys to my Mom's place, because there were 3 in this lot.

Finally the Lunatic S.H. Figuarts and the DXF Figure 5 who are currently displayed with some of my older Shaka gashapons I kept and the Anime Heroes release.

I'm currently waiting on shipments for a bunch of other stuff I've ordered like 2 of those adorable TB2 mochi mochi plushes, and the Luna and Yuri plushies released during the rising as well as a bunch of stuff from the Summer Resort collab, TB2 Museum fine art board, but I'll post them once I receive them. This is all I currently have onhand.
