Yu Yu Hakusho 30th Anniversary Commemorative Illustrations

The redraw in anime style of all the 15 covers from the Yu Yu Hakusho kanzenban edition (2004-2005) is over! Hirotaka Marufuji, chief animation director of the Yu Yu Hakusho OVAs (2018), was in charge of the illustrations.

This project began with the release of a 30th Anniversary logo, on June 3rd, 2022, and ended on October 10th, 2023, the day of Yu Yu Hakusho anime 31st anniversary. Many commemorative goods and action figures have been released so far.

I hope to see more surprises and Yu Yu Hakusho content in future!

Studio Pierrot has unveiled two more new illustrations in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Yu Yu Hakusho anime. This time, they designed Yusuke and Enki/Raizen/Yomi/Mukuro. They also released the art of Hiei/Yukina, Botan and Genkai without the fancy background. The Pierrot Store announced that more merch is on the way. So, stay tuned! I think we can expect more 30th anniversary DXF figures as well.

Like they did with the first, second, third, and fourth commemorative illustrations, they've continued the redraw in anime style of the kanzenban covers designed by Togashi in 2004-2005.

This project began in 2022 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary and ends today, on October 10, 2023, when the Yu Yu Hakusho anime commemorates its 31st Anniversary!

On his Twitter, Hirotaka Marufuji thanked everyone for the opportunity to be the original illustrator of the 30th anniversary kanzenban-anime illustrations.

Studio Pierrot has unveiled three more new illustrations in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Yu Yu Hakusho anime. Like they did with the first, second, and third commemorative illustrations, they've continued the redraw, in anime style, of the kanzenban covers designed by Togashi in 2004-2005.

This time, we have the girls: Yukina (with Hiei), Botan, and Genkai (past and present). In 2004, Togashi tried new colors and drew a blonde version of Botan. I'm glad the anime studio kept her original blue hair from the 90s.

The Studio Pierrot Store is also releasing new merch.

Yu Yu Hakusho Prize Figures

New Yu Yu Hakusho prize figures were announced at the BANDAI SPIRITS 72nd Prize Fair. A preview of "Q posket" and "DXF-Toguro Brothers - 30th Anniversary" were displayed:

Q posket is a collectible figurine line created by Banpresto. With glossy eyes and charming cheeks, the finest quality and meticulous design are the essence of Q posket.

DXF-Toguro Brothers - 30th Anniversary

Scheduled to be released in November 2023, Banpresto continues with the Yu Yu Hakusho DXF 30th Anniversary figures. After Yusuke, Hiei, Kurama, Kuwabara, and Koenma, they are now announcing the Toguro Brothers.

It makes me wonder if they are also planning to create DXF figures of Youko Kurama, Itsuki and Sensui, since their commemorative illustrations are also part of the 30th Anniversary.

Yu Yu Hakusho Shining Rainbow Playing Cards

Ensky is selling these new Yu Yu Hakusho playing cards with various iconic scenes from the anime. Some of the new commemorative illustrations designed by Studio Pierrot to celebrate the Yu Yu Hakusho 30th anniversary are also available in this card set. All cards have a glittering holo design.

I love they did the villains and that Itsuki gained more muscles! But, I miss the girls. I was hoping they would include the covers with Botan, Genkai, Hiei/Yukina, and the 3 Kings with Enki.

They didn't set a date this time, but asked everyone to look forward to various anniversary projects. So, we should expect more news in the near future.

- PUZZLE - Yoshihiro Togashi Exhibition

It's not only Yu Yu Hakusho that is celebrating its 30th anniversary, Togashi is also celebrating his 35th anniversary as a manga artist. He debuted in the Weekly Shounen Jump Winter Special 1988 (December 1987) with the one-shot "Tonda's Birthday Present". To commemorate this incredible year, an original art exhibition entitled "PUZZLE" with more than 350 rare original drawings will be held.

Period: from October 28, 2022 (Friday) to January 9, 2023 (Monday, holiday)

Location: Mori Arts Center Gallery (Roppongi Hills Mori Tower, 52nd F, Tokyo). It's the same place where the "Shounen Jump 50th Anniversary Exhibition" was held. The exhibition will also take place in Osaka and Fukuoka.

Ok, this is a leak and the exhibition will be officially announced in the next issue of the Weekly Shounen Jump, but ... I'm already in love with the Yu Yu Hakusho characters in Togashi's current art style!

Yusuke is in the center of the image as the big protagonist, Kuwabara - the man is ready to swing his sword, Kurama is wearing a cool and new combat outfit, Hiei is cute with a smiley face and small dragon in his hands, Koenma behind Botan is hilarious, and I don't know what is happening with Elder Toguro lol.

I'm trying to understand what Hisoka is wearing. It seems like a keylock, is it a penis chastity device? 😂

I love the fact Prince Baka and Captain Kraft from Level E were included!

Kurama's Rose Hair Treatment Oil - Renewal Version 2022

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Yu Yu Hakusho anime, the treatment oil released in 2017 for the 25th anniversary of the series has been renewed with a lighter scent. Both bottle and packaging have also been redesigned.

Bandai is using the new commemorative illustration that Pierrot designed to celebrate the 30th anniversary! ♡

This oil was born from the famous line Karasu whispers to Kurama at the Dark Tournament: "Your hair is a little damaged. Are you taking care of it properly?".

The fragrance is a renewed and lighter version of the "Rose Whip Scent", inspired by the scent of roses floating in Kurama's battle scenes. A bottle contains 100ml of a blend of three types of plant-derived ingredients:

This commemorative logo was posted by Studio Pierrot to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Yu Yu Hakusho anime. The television series originally aired on Japan's Fuji TV network from October 10th, 1992.

Apparently, this is just a cut and a full commemorative illustration will be posted next Friday, on June 10th at 18h00 (JST). I wonder if they will also be announcing anything new regarding the animation. Anyway, I think we can expect at least lots of commemorative merch. 😁

Happy 29th Anniversary

The Yu Yu Hakusho anime made its debut on Fuji TV on October 10th 1992. The 112 episodes were broadcast on Saturdays at 18h30. The "Dark Tournament Arc" was rebroadcast this year by BS Nippon Television.

Hunter x Hunter got a Special Illustration by Takahiro Yoshimatsu (character designer and animation director) in this week's Weekly Shounen Jump N°45 (October 11, 2021) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2011 anime. I wonder if Yu Yu Hakusho will get anything special in 2022 to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

We've already got the 25th Anniversary Blu-Ray BOX, with two new OVA, and Special Illustrations by the anime staff in 2018, among other merch. But, it would be super nice to commemorate the big 30 with new stuff, as nothing special was done to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the manga last year T_T
