Review: Dancing With the Stars Season 33 Finale
Something is in the air this year or at least something is in my eyes this year. This season of Dancing With the Stars surprised me. I genuinely thought a this cast was the best of the best selected. But this season was better than best. This goes to show that anything can happen and it does always get better (whatever it is). Before I review the 3-hour-long finale that aired yesterday night, I…

Dancing with the Stars Season 33 Week 10: The Finale
Hey everyone. Hope you're having a great week. If you celebrate Thanksgiving, hope you all had a great time. If you don't, hope you had a fantastic Thursday.
I wanna say that I really enjoyed this season. Since the Athlete Season, I think this season has been my favorite. It wasn't perfect and there were a lot of problems. But I think this is the most back to basics the show has been in YEARS. And I personally love that.
Before I get into the couples, I wanna address a few things. The first thing is that CAI showed us exactly why she's the most necessary judge on that panel right now. After Halloween night, she went back to how she was judging last season. That's a good thing. With Derek and Bruno blowing smoke up people's butts, we need someone to bring folks back down to earth and give actual CRITIQUES. She started doing that again towards the end. I'm glad she did. Secondly, I wanna get into the results. Some of you are being quite disingenuous with the talks about Joey (and Ilona and Chandler). Joey deserved the win as did everyone else. Ilona was actually a good dancer. Chandler being on the show while having prior dance experience is not some sort of crime against humanity. You need ringers who can keep raising the bar and forcing folks to try and catch them. It makes for a better competition. And finally, y'all gotta take a breather. Things will be okay. I'm gonna get into Chandler and Brandon in a moment. But just know that the chances of them winning were slim for all the reasons that we all know. I want us to not look at it as some sort of failure and look at the success of their season. View them as trailblazers. This couple opened up doors. They left a huge impact and for that, we need to look at it and celebrate them vs mourn their loss. Anyway, let's get into it.
Chandler and Brandon- So you know what. I'm not gonna waste anymore time. I just wanna talk about them. As you all know, these two were my favorites this season for so many different reasons. I wanna talk about how talented she is. Their jive was spectacular. Chandler has really amazing and long legs. That works in most dances. It's hard to have long legs in a jive. You gotta work that much harder to get that right kicking action and you gotta get those legs back under you in the same amount of time as someone who has much shorter legs. She looked great AND she didn't lose steam. It was a cute dance and Brandon knocked the choreography out of the park. Now I wanna talk about the freestyle. This was my favorite dance of all time. This dance was a celebration of Blackness. It was a celebration of what we, as a people, contributed to dance and entertainment. It was acknowledging those that came before Chandler and Brandon (and every other Black dancer on that stage). It was a lesson in Black history. I saw Lindy hop. I saw tap. I saw hustle. I saw hip-hop. I even saw some jazz. All of those styles of dance were originated by Black people. We got a reference to the Nicholas Brothers and that iconic tap routine of theirs. We got a reference to the dance scene with all the Black workers from Hellzapoppin. We got a look into 70s Black fashion and not in the costume-y way that folks tend to do. And we got a Curtis Mayfield song. What's even better is that the jive was also originated by Black folks. So their entire night was a celebration of Blackness and it was such a huge moment for them, for Black folks and for the show in general. After that freestyle was done, I started to cry. I knew how much it meant, but I really felt it after it was over.I wish Alfonso had done a better job of acknowledging. Y'all may hate Tyra, but one thing she's gonna do is point out a moment like that. Anyway, we know that they got 3rd and I know it sucks. But like I said earlier, let's focus on what they did accomplish not only on Tuesday night, but throughout the entire competition. Brandon killed it with the choreography every single week. There was not a week where he slacked off like so many other pros do. He was given a lot of responsibility with Chandler as his partner and not only did he meet those expectations, he exceeded every single one of them. He is the heir to the throne of Mark and Derek and we need to accept that. And Chandler? I view her season like I view Jordan Fisher and Amber Riley. That is the biggest compliment I can ever give to a celeb on this show. The MBT would've been nice but if you go back and watch those two all night, they were at peace. So bravo to them both.
Stephen and Rylee- These two are actually here because Stephen and Rylee finally figured out his biggest problem. For me, the most shocking thing of the night was watching grasp counting music and stay mostly on time for his quickstep and be completely in the pocket for the freestyle. If they had a couple more weeks, I think we would've seen him get less rigid as that comes with not feeling comfortable with the music. As for that freestyle, Stephen shocked me with how on time he was. Rylee killed it with the choreography as well. A lot of times, pros will mess up their first freestyles because it is so different and choreographing something with no rules that encapsulates your partnership, the person you're dancing with and the season that the person had on the show is a daunting task. Both Rylee and Brandon (juniors doesn't count) excelled in their first freestyles. To me, choreographing a good and meaningful freestyle is the sign of a truly great pro.
Ilona and Alan- When I tell you all that Ilona has turned me into an Alan truther? Listen, I always liked him. He's always been pleasant and fun. He seems to work well with all of us partners. He tries. For me, he's a good pro. But this season, I saw him blossom and transform into a great pro. Their relationship was so good to watch. I loved how he was there for her the whole time. Their jive, while not perfect, was an impressive several steps up from their previous attempt. And their freestyle was PERFECT for Ilona. I was shocked that they went in the direction that they did, but it made sense. I don't think Ilona would've been able to pull that off within the first few weeks of the competition. But she definitely killed it and was 100% comfortable during this dance. And I loved it. As a side note, I think the freestyle round regained some of the magic it lost over the years during this season. I'm not sure what happened, but there was a shift in thought process from every pro.
Joey and Jenna- These two are fourth for me, but that's not a bad thing. They deserved to win. I just wasn't as impressed with them as I was with the first 3. I still hate that the judges didn't give him critiques because this cha-cha would've been 100% worthy of a perfect score if the judges told him to turn his feet out and articulate through his foot. Everything else was fine and it was still a major improvement. As for the freestyle, it was good, but I was also underwhelmed. I get the tennis thing. I don't think the idea translated well to the dancefloor. On top of that when you start turning out lights and lighting up specific accessories, everything has to be tight and perfect. And Joey was a tiny bit behind the rest of the pros during that part of the dance. It maybe wouldn't have been a problem if the lights were on. But the lights being off meant that was the only thing we could see. And I saw the mistakes, clear as day. It also just wasn't all that exciting. Good routine. But when looking at everyone else's dances, it just felt kinda blah.
Danny and Witney- Danny definitely improved on his tango. It wasn't perfect. It was rigid (even for a tango's standards). But his frame looked better. Like Joey, I wish the judges had been real with him in weeks 5 and 6. A lot of the problems we saw on Tuesday would've been worked through at least somewhat if the judges had consistently told him some of his problems with his frame and being comfortable out on the floor (or looking comfortable if he felt comfortable in his mind). The freestyle was very camp. Nothing was serious. It was goofy. It was silly. But I enjoyed it. It worked. It wasn't perfect. It wasn't my favorite of the night. I don't think it deserved a 10. But it was incredibly entertaining and a perfect dance for those two for some odd reason.
So that was season 33 of DWTS. Let me know your thoughts and I will talk to you all soon. We'll do some other things before the end of the year. And once again, congrats to all of the finalists.

my biggest DWTS nightmare would be if they added Nico Greetham to the cast but no one else was at his skill level or area of dance expertise
#dwts 32#dancing with the stars#nico greetham#like i love him with all my heart and i will support any power ranger who gets on that show#but he's got the same level of dance experience as Alan 😶🌫️#the level of hate that man will get will be astronomical and i will not stand for it#his dancing was part of what got him to be a power ranger in the first place#like charli was one of the best dancers on the show#but she had competition! and other pairs that were just as likeable!#if he were in they need someone to balance it out#like idk... tate mcrae. same skill level and celebrity status#plus she can do a cha cha to 10:35 which is one of her best songs ever#idk if anyone will read these tags hjfgdklhglfdk

Saw Come Dancing- Coming Soon!
Hi everyone! I've been having Strictly Come Dancing withdrawal symptoms since the finale aired on Saturday (Chris & Dianne won) and I wanted to combine two of my favourite things- 'Saw' and 'Strictly Come Dancing' and make into an interactive series here on Tumblr. If you don't know what Strictly Come Dancing is (maybe it's called 'Dancing With The Stars' where you are in the world), its a tv show where celebrities get paired with professional dancers and learn to dance ballroom and latin and they compete against each other. It's absolutely huge here in the UK and we're all obsessed with it. I figured, hey, what if in some weird headcanon scenario, Jigsaw created a dance competition with his apprentices and test subjects. I did a post a while back about pairing Saw characters with Strictly Come Dancing dancers and after recently being inspired by a dream involving Leigh Whannell competing on DWTS, I decided to start this series.
How is this going to work?-------------------------------------
I will open a poll and you vote for the character you want to see go through to the next round, the character with the least amount of votes is eliminated from 'Saw Come Dancing'. I'll show you my contestants and their first dances
Here are the contestants:
Adam Stanheight
Dr Lawrence Gordon
Mark Hoffman
Peter Strahm
Daniel Rigg
Steven Sing
Amanda Young
Lindsey Perez
Dr Jill Tuck
Simone Bethson
Brit Stevenson
Cecilia Pederson
Here are the first dances for each character:
Adam- Waltz: "Back To The Old House"- The Smiths
Lawrence- Cha Cha Cha: "Love At First Sight"- Kylie Minogue
Mark- Paso Doble: "Thunderstruck"- AC/DC
Peter- Foxtrot: "Heroes"- David Bowie
Daniel- American Smooth: "Stand By Me"- Ben E King
Steven- Salsa: "Fireball"- Pitbull
Amanda- Foxtrot: "Good Luck Babe!"- Chappell Roan
Lindsey- Jive: "Broken Heels"- Alexandra Burke
Jill- Viennese Waltz: "She's Always A Woman"- Billy Joel
Simone- Cha Cha Cha: "I Will Survive"- Gloria Gaynor
Brit- Tango: "Piece Of Me"- Britney Spears
Cecilia- Cha Cha Cha: "I'm Outta Love"- Anastacia
You can vote for your faves in the next poll! Any song suggestions would be appreciated! Let's see who will win the very first and only ever.... Saw Come Dancing.
Hope you enjoy this wild series on Tumblr x

like. stephen’s freestyle:
youtube
cute, fun, gymnastics, teamwork, viva la vida, a satisfying end to his time on the show! A+ freestyle, this is how the freestyle dances are meant to go
youtube
ilona’s! femininimon! she makes jokes referencing different things from the season, “never been better carrie ann” calling back to her viral “uh been better carrie ann” moment from early in the season when she messed up one of her dances… the bedazzled rugby ball after she tackles alan… ezra popping in with a 10 paddle… she’s giving fun she’s giving slay this is exactly how ilona mahar’s freestyle should have been this is literally the standard!!
youtube
and chandler’s…. you’ve already heard it from me but this is genuinely an all time dance. brandon has been a pro on this show for like. a decade almost i’m pretty sure, this is his first time making it to the finale, as the show’s first black couple, this dance being a delightful and entertaining homage to the history that has led them here… the way at the end they do their cute move from their cha cha thereby adding themselves to that history… this is a perfect performance!!
youtube
and then joey is there. what is this dance even giving. hey guys i’m joey the bachelor i like to play tennis :) ok? gives nothing! underwhelming! and why is there a whole bit in the middle of just him lifting jenna and her doing a bunch of showy shit to make them look impressive. joey that’s danny’s move! what’s pissing me off is that he actually can somewhat dance so i don’t understand why jenna didn’t push him harder and play to his strengths rather than doing the covering him with her lifts thing female pros always have to do. like why is she STILL pulling that move when they’re in the FINALE and he’s not the worst dancer in the competition! the fact is that his partner did not have faith in his ability to be talented on his own. this is where joey and stephen differ. joey gets lauded as the best male dancer on this season but that’s because jenna did way more work covering him than rylee did for stephen. because rylee god forbid believed in her partner’s talent and gave him every opportunity to show what he could do on his own. meanwhile jenna’s serving the witney carson special with a partner who COULD have reasonably stood well enough on his own. it’s bonkers to me that people didn’t see this. joey did not give!!! he did not give!!!!!!!
and no i won’t be talking about danny he doesn’t even deserve the energy of me typing my complaints. fifth place bitch. dwts LOSER!

DWTS Alum Lindsay Arnold Welcomes Baby No. 2 Lindsay Arnold is cha cha-ing a new era. The Dancing With the Stars pro underwent breast augmentation on January 14, despite a warning from a fan on TikTok, who urged: “Don’t do it!!! Dancing with the Stars Season 33 Week 9: Guess This Is the Norm?
So we're back. And before we get started, we have a 5 person finale. I think I already spoke at length about how dumb that is to have no elimination during the semis, so I won't do more there. What I will say is that I'm only okay because if Chandler and Brandon were the ones to be eliminated (I feel like it might've been Danny and Witney), it saved them and allowed us to have the first all Black couple make it to the finals in DWTS history. And for me as a Black man, that's bigger than anything else. The judging wasn't atrocious this week, so I'm happy about that. As for the recap, I'm gonna rank them on how I enjoyed their performances (not where I think they will finish tonight).
Chandler and Brandon- These two gave us two very solid dances. I wouldn't say either one was my favorite from them this season, but both were very good and the best dances of the night. There was like one missed hand connection at the beginning, but great otherwise. The lack of content critique from Derek was a load of bs, especially when you look at another salsa later on in the night that wasn't given the same critique with even less content. This foxtrot was the showstopper for me (not the other one). I hate when CAI randomly pulls out the lift rule for things that are clearly not meant to be lifts. Loved the dance. Loved the choreo. I loved that Derek said Chandler helped Brandon grow and pulled the best out of him, cuz I would definitely agree.
Ilona and Alan- These two had their best night of the season. Ilona I think fully settled into dancing and for the first time, was 100% comfortable out on that floor. Their paso was very good. I wish she had stretched through her lines and shaped them better than she did. But she owned the dance. I know folks were looking forward to that dance, but I was looking forward to that Viennese waltz from her. I love a Viennese waltz and I love Ilona's slower and more lyrical dances. I think that's where she really shines. And for me, this Viennese waltz was my favorite dance of the night. Ilona was beaming. She was moving beautifully. Her lines were gorgeous. This was the best I had seen her all season. I know people think Joey is a lock, but I actually feel like this is Ilona's win. She has peaked at the right time.
Joey and Jenna- So remember how I talked about how the cast plateaued early last year. The same thing is happening this year and Joey is the first victim of that. He's good, don't get me wrong. But the judges have not really given him constructive criticism throughout the season and now, we have a man that hasn't been able to elevate to greatness because of the feet problems he has had every single week in every single dance. He's flat footed and he does this shuffle foot thing and the fact that the judges never corrected it will forever piss me off. Both dances were good. I'm just so mad that we are in an era on this show where a handful of dancers that make it to the end won't reach their full potential because the judges are lazy and scary. Joey also had a bit of a problem with his frame from time to time in that foxtrot.
Stephen and Rylee- Stephen's tango is the only reason why I put him in 4th. That was a very good dance. He soldiered on even with the glasses mishap. Any glasses wearers out there will tell you how embarrassing and hard it is to navigate things with your glasses sitting up on your face sideways. But he locked in and got through it. He still needs to relax with his frame and count slightly better. But it was probably my favorite dance of his. That cha-cha? They are lucky they are on DWTS in season 33 and not back in an earlier season. The judges back then would've quickly pulled out 6s and 7s for a dance like this back then. So that 25 was a gift. That's all I got.
Danny and Witney- So these two are also suffering from rarely getting constructive criticism. Danny peaked in during his jazz and it's kind of all been the same since. Not saying he would be amazing, but he had the ability to be way better. I will say that his frame in the few bars that they did in hold for that Viennese waltz was better than the other two men. So there was progress there (Witney was smart not putting as much in hold because it probably would've started to cave in). His posture was not good. He had his butt way out. His footwork wasn't super clean either. As for the salsa. If Chandler didn't have enough content, then wth was this, Derek? The lifts were fantastic. The performance (not the dance) was lively. The actual dancing though? There was very little of it from Danny. And the dancing that he did do, was atrocious. It didn't help that the song was piss poor for a salsa (and I love that song, but come on). Danny is the weakest dancer left because he has all of Ilona, Stephen and Joey's problems, but none of the pointers that Ilona and Stephen have been given. I find that sad because he does have potential and I think he could've been a better and more consistent dancer than at least Stephen.
So that's my thoughts on last week. I'm excited for tonight. I hope you all are too. I usually don't say who I hope you all vote for, but I do hope y'all vote for Chandler and Brandon. This is a huge deal to have this couple in the finals and idk when we'll see this again to potentially get them a win. I'm fine with anyone winning, but a Chandler and Brandon win would be a special moment. Anyway, let me know y'all's thoughts and I'll talk to you soon/throughout the night/hopefully get the finale post up tomorrow.

DWTS Winner Joey Graziadei ‘Blacked Out’ When Result Was Announced
Disney/Eric McCandless Dancing With the Stars season 33 winner Joey Graziadei said he “blacked out” when his name was called. Joey, 29, and pro dance partner Jenna Johnson, 30, took home the Mirrorball Trophy during the Tuesday, November 26, finale after scoring a perfect 30 from the judges (Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruni Tonioli) for their cha-cha-cha routine to Justin Timberlake’s…

'DWTS' guest judge Gene Simmons booed for Reginald VelJohnson score
Gene Simmons did not get the warmest reception during his judging on Dancing With the Stars. Simmons, who fittingly served as a guest judge for Tuesday evening’s Hair Metal Night, received a chorus of boos after revealing his score for Reginald VelJohnson, who danced a cha cha to “I Wanna Rock” by Twisted Sister with pro partner Emma Slater. The pair received a generous 6 from Carrie Ann Inaba,…

Ask for your DWTS au:
Do you think there was a certain dance or rehearsal where each of the couples were like “I’m into this person”?
Love your AUs!
For Vax I think it was their first dance. Like he and Kiki started with Cha-Cha and they did really well! And when they got their scores, she gave him a massive hug and he was like...oh shit
For Vex and Percy, it took a little longer. Obviously they thought the other person was attractive from the start, but didn't do anything about it until like halfway through the season. Maybe they're practicing a lift and Vex fucks it up and ends up falling and Percy starts to get worried. And then she starts laughing. And he just looks at her sitting on the floor, sweaty and probably bruised and it clicks for him that it's more than just attraction.
