After a long time stalling, I’ve finally read Dwelling. Also because of this immaculate work of @sits-bound, and @tackytigerfic’s caution encouragement. I may have survived, but not without a crater in my chest made by thousands of shards. Here’s my sloppy attempt to patch that up.

draco, the magic dragon - libbydrew a fic i first read on livejournal (showing off the varnish of my casket here) that i thought about regularly for the almost two decades i fell out of fandom. canon to me tbh. libby invented my draco rubric: proud lil showboat even when everything around him has gone to rancid shit, sarcastic and aloof personality as a poor facade to distract from the big ol' gaping well of hurt.

Potter took a great breath, then let it out slowly – a low whistle between his teeth. "Malfoy, I had no idea. I thought—" "Why are you here?" Draco cut him off before the idiot embarrassed them both. Their shared past was water under the bridge – even if Draco had drowned in it.

stately homes of wiltshire - waspabi another one that crept into my heart and made a home. hard to choose between this and waspabi's other drarry fic, but there's something about the decrepit manor that just does it for me. a perfect harry and draco, perfect soft reaching towards each other.

Draco smiled and dragged Potter from the shop before he could charm any more elderly ladies with his unkept, take-care-of-me-I’m-confused-and-have-nice-shoulders aesthetic. Once outside in the drizzle, he realised he still had his hand around Potter’s forearm. He yanked his hand back immediately.

warmfoothills :,) just reading this moniker makes me vision go soft around the edges. their writing has made me out loud, quietly say "oh," multiple times. the prose is darling, this story is such a brief, aching glance. it was also really hard to pick just one (flashback, warm nights i also go in for).

“I love you,” he says, unable to stop himself. Draco blinks, a barely-there flinch, like Harry’s taken a swing at him. “I know,” he says, still oblivious to the reference, oblivious to the way his words scoop right into the meat of Harry’s stupid, hopeful heart. “It’s not enough, is it?” Draco shakes his head. Above, the stars watch unfeelingly on.

the pure and simple truth - lettered no one does dialogue with the mastery lettered does. my GOD. my god. i feel like this fic is drarry perfectly distilled.

“What’s he going to be?” Blaise raised a brow. “Pardon?” “You said he says Hermione should be Minister, and all those other things. the writer i avoid talking about the most bc once i start i cannot physically restrain myself from going on about their beauty forever. i sat for forty-five solid minutes frowning, trying to choose between this one and in the hand. and dwelling. okay anyway. i keep a doc of quotes from fics that resonate and it's 50% aideomai.

I could not be happier with how this turned out. I used so many new, fun techniques and materials!

The book cloth, oh my god, it's so beautiful. It's Dubletta in aqua/purple. I am mad at myself for messing up my first go at this cover, but it's okay. It's not very expensive and I still have more.

I stenciled the cover. This was the most trying part of the entire process. Last night, I could not for the life of me get the vinyl to cut properly or weed properly or do anything properly, but the first time I tried this morning, it went perfectly. Go figure. The paint is just a craft acrylic in rose gold.

I (sort of) designed and printed the endpapers with my new color printer. I say "sort of" designed because I used the text-to-vector-graphic AI feature in Illustrator. I am generally not a fan of AI artwork, it creeps me out, but I like how this turned out.

I used toner foil on the chapter headers. SO SHINY! (I got a Scotch laminator, and some toner foil from Amazon and it worked perfectly.)

I would say that I also sewed endbands for the first time, but my attempt was not successful. Oh well, nothing wrong with premade ones! Next time...

I also got "creative" with the page numbers and title/author on the inside pages. I am not the most creative typesetter, so this is exciting for me, ha ha.

Everything also went in so neatly and square, and I am just really happy right now. :)

Body and title and well, actually, all of the fonts in the book are Corundum of some sort.

Hello! So I've been trying to find this specific drarry fic that I just can't remember the name of anymore. But it's basically where Draco and Harry become friends at the start of their first year at Hogwarts and it follows their journey through the years and they end up together and experience all these scenarios like one where they go ice skating and Harry is friends with Draco's friends, but then right as they have a family it's revealed that it was just these two people that had hexed them and were trying to take Harry's magic and so they have to get used to reality all over again and used to the fact that they actually aren't together and they don't have a kid and it's just one big mind screw up and it the end Harry has to decide if he wants to stay in that reality or go back to where him and Draco are together and happy. And I know this is really long but I have an itch to reread that fanfic and I've been scouring all my resources but have been unsuccessful, please tell me you know what I'm talking about 😭😭

When everything was perfect how could it not be real. When everything sucks how can you not wish for it. Harry is forced to see his life from a different perspective after he is shown a different reality. Will this tear him apart or will he be able to see what's right in front of him?

My Thoughts:

I feel like I can breathe again haha I felt like I was tense the whole time I read this. I had braced myself for something gut wrenching and was expecting some terrible event to happen the whole time. I read or saw somewhere that it was sad, and it had a "good but bittersweet ending" So I was so ready for this to just break my heart. I think I was overprepared. Do not get me wrong, I did in fact cry but it was more of a moving moment than a sad moment for me. It WAS sad but not in the way I expected.

I really appreciate the way the author treats the rivalry between Harry and Draco. I think it's one of the first ones I read where I really believe the two weren't at least a little in love during their school years. This makes for some interesting storytelling when it comes to their current romance and situation.

I think both Harry and Draco have their frustrating moments but it's mostly just a hard situation for them both. For a good portion of this I just wanted to take them both and make them sit in a room and hold hands until they put themselves in each other's shoes. I think though in this way Aideomai handles how two teenagers would really be struggling with everything they went through during the war. I had a knot in my stomach anytime something angsty would happen in that I understand how sad and hard it had to be. I think that this was handled really well story wise. I would def say this isn't for the light of heart and you may cry but I think the story is worth it. I would also like to say for the record it doesn't have a sad ending.

So that was fun yesterday in starting this blog. I seriously do hope that as time goes by that others will start doing the same. :) I do want to add that in my posts I will be adding some fandom history now and then. Today is one of those days. I may have been a bit self-indulgent. *blushes*

What I'm Reading:

I'm trying to savor the Ginny sorted into Slytherin story I mentioned yesterday. In my first read of it, I raced through it and know that I probably missed enjoying it in it's complete form. I'm on a few Discords and one of them being Harry Potter Fanfiction Club. They have a vote every month to choose what fics the members can read together and discuss. This month they chose for Drarry aideomai's Dwelling. I'd read this masterpiece before but decided to look for a shorter fic by this amazing author. I chose Nice Things. OMG all 22K of this fic is such a treat. If you ever need a warm, dreamylike fic, choose this one. It's an 8th year fic where only 7 of the classmates come back. Ron, Harry, and Hermione are in the mix. Draco is there along with Theo. They are assigned to live in a cottage on the grounds of Hogwarts. The progression of Harry and Draco's relationship is lovely. Read it now or Bookmark it for later when the need for this type of fic hits...as we all know there are times it's needed.

HD Fan Fair (Career Fair) is open for prompts! They have openings for 250 prompts and so far have 153. Prompt closing is on June 30th. Claiming begins on July 1st.

First of all, I think we need to give a huge shout-out to Fan Fair mod @phoenixacid. This will be her 10th year of modding this fest. I do believe she worked on it even earlier. Anyone who's modded a fest before knows the dedication it takes to see it through. Her co-mod, @sassy-cissa has been involved since 2018.

Here's a little history about this Fest

This fest has been going on annually since 2009, with the exception of 2011. It was conceived by @marguerite26 and myself, with @vaysh11 and Jamie2109 soon joining in. I was unable to mod for personal reasons that first year and only partially the second...after that I pretty much left fandom. Back then, you really couldn't just start a fest when other established fests were already on the calendar. It was considered impolite and it would be posted on LJ about what an arse you were. LOL When hd_inspired closed shop, we jumped in and took their spot in Autumn. Fan Fair started with Career Fair and then moved on to Travel Fair. Since then, they've had Book (books mentioned in HP), Sex, Food, and Pottermore Fairs with repeats for Career, Travel and Food. Both Inspired and then Fan Fair were novel in being a prompt fest as opposed to an exchange fest like @hd-erised (back then it was hd_holidays). We felt it gave greater control to the authors to write to a prompt they liked as opposed to be assigned one, which from personal experience can cause angst and meltdowns. That is why it was called a Fair as opposed to a fest. A fest usually meant an Exchange Fest.

When I came back to fandom, I about cried seeing that @Phoenixacid had not only kept Fan Fair alive but it was thriving. I wrote for it that first year I came back in 2021, and I made a promise to read and comment on every fic and art piece posted for the Fairs. I only skipped one fic last year. It was brilliantly written but was beyond my comfort level for psychological horror. I don't listen to Podfics, I'm sorry to say. When I used to commute hours to and from work, I could but now I don't have the where-with-all to pay attention.

So go PROMPT!!!!! And give tons of love to the two mods!!!! Mods are the backbone of fandom.

Did you know the amazing @snowgall created and maintains a Drarry fanart archive at @snowingalway. She had noticed that fandom art of old was being lost and artists were leaving fandom. The pieces available for viewing are those that the artists have given her permission to archive. She personally contacted the artists to ask for such permission. I think when you visit the sight and view what she's saved, you too will be thrilled and indebted for what she's done for Drarry fandom. Please not she also posts and collect current works, too!
