Can I just say for a moment how much I appreciate Durin & Disa's relationship in Rings of Power? Because I...can't actually think of the last time a TV show had an established married couple, with children, still obviously very much in love (and very much attracted each other!) who can disagree with each other and still be a united front. These 2 know each other inside and out, they have in jokes, they ACTIVELY COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER. And there's never a sense that they just *happen* to be like that because they're destined soulmates or whatever, no- they fell in love, and every day they wake up and make the choice to do the work that keeps the love going from strength to strength, and i think it's one of the most beautiful romantic & sexual relationships I've ever seen on film.

One of my favorite scenes in season one was Elrond's visit to Khazad-dûm, where Durin and Disa proceed to argue over him like he's a lost lil puppy

With Disa's "Can't we keep him?? 🥺" look

and Durin's "NO WE CANNAE KEEP THE MONGREL" look in response

Then Elrond like "okay I know when I'm not wanted I'mma bounce bye fam"

But Disa's just

"So HELP ME we're KEEPING HIM"

And Durin's "NO WE ARE NAE—

"No—

"no absolutely NAE—

".............

"............okay fine but it has to sleep outside"

Another thing I really liked (and very much appreciated) on The Rings of Power was: Prince Durin and Disa. Like, it's good to see an actually loving long term marriage, where the spouses care for each other. A simple thing, sure, but that's why it was so good.

We know that Durin was angry in season 1 because Elrond stopped contacting him for twenty years, but did he ever try to reach out to make sure that his bestie wasn't lying injured in a ditch somewhere? Or did he just sulk? Tbh, I think that is why Disa is warm to Elrond right at the beginning. Because if my husband's bestie ghosted him and didn't reply to any messages and then just waltzed back in after twenty years, I'd probably kick him in the balls. The reason why Disa was so nice and happy to see him was because she knew Durin had been just as bad.

Durin and Disa are such a wonderful and loving couple. They were part of the reason I loved Rings of Power S1 and they continue to grow stronger in S2.

The way they are just there for each other and work to support each other... it's just so sweet and lovely to watch.

The scene in the latest ep where Durin breaks down in front of Disa? The way she just immediately goes into "okay I need to look after you" mode? Love it!

And later, when Durin just looks at Disa with such love after the bat thing? No notes. More of them please

My tragedy sensor warns me that Durin won't be able to keep his promise and succumb to the temptation of the rings which will fracture his relationship with Disa.

Nothing will make me happier than to be proven wrong.

HELLO! How are we all feeling?

Well, we are ALL IN OUR FEELINGS after an incredible finale...which hurt us in many ways. We did have some criticisms, and decided to tackle those first before ending on a high. So, if you want to jump around, timestamps follow!

We start with our thoughts on the big Sauron and Galadriel scene (00:04:09) before concluding that much of our anxiety over how this was handled is to do with our disappointment over Galadriel's place in the show and her character arc (00:26:37). Our critique carries through as we talk through everything Rhun (00:43:32).

Our positivity bursts back into being, possibly surprisingly, when we get to Pelargir (00:49:51) and then Numenor (01:00:05). We get emotional over Durin III (01:10:30) and then tackle all the 'little elfy bits' (01:15:19). Finally, we discuss Adar with a slice of mental health + fandom (01:24:48) before finishing with our farewell to Celebrimbor (01:35:55).

Llinking my stories for Fic in a Box now the exchange has hit author reveals! I have had four glorious stories written for me as well and I will be linking to those here as well now I can give the authors proper credit.

With ash in your mouth you'll ask it to burn again (Rings of Power) - Haladriel, M, 2700 words. Missing scene from S1 Númenor.

He is thinking of fangs and the hot metal taste of blood and when she flinches a little he wonders if she can tell it - but she only lifts her chin more, defiant, inviting. “This what a king would do?” he murmurs into her skin. A sharp breath. A glare. “I do not wish further battles with you, Halbrand.” “I think you do,” he says, “I think you like it.”

And should I fall behind, wait for me (Rings of Power) - Elrond & Galadriel, G, 2200 words. Friendship and arguments and resolutions:

She lays her head upon his shoulder and breathes, and all the fury and resentment she felt earlier feels – not gone, exactly, but less. No longer liable to choke or smother her, no longer a burden she has dragged all the way up this hill to sit with alone while the others gather in company.

They're whispering his name through this disappearing land (Rings of Power): Adar/Arondir, M, 2800 words, mind the tags. Capture and captivity and elf-orc identity crises.

Some small and desperate part of him tears at his mind – these are orcs you hear, these are orcs, you know the tune, that’s all, they’ve stolen it and distorted it and sullied it like they do all else, it’s not your songs, it’s not your comrades - - but his lips mouth the words of the song all the same.

When will you come back home? (Rings of Power): Disa/Durin & Elrond (and kind of a setup for Disa/Durin/Elrond), 4800 words, family and belonging and living with legacies.

“Friendly,” she says. “A little too keen to impress us.” He nods and looks oddly glum with it. “Typical elves. Ignore us for decades and then lay out all this.” She catches him with the sharp edge of a look. “This is about Elrond.” “It’s not about Elrond.” “It is very clearly about -” “- and I’m not bearing a grudge.”
