Duran Duran
The identity of the model whose likeness graced the cover of Duran Duranâs album âRioâ has finally been revealed.
Marcie Hunt-Dinkel, the co-owner of a small winery in Napa, is the woman with the âcherry ice cream smileâ who inspired Patrick Nagelâs artwork for the classic 1982 album, experts confirmed.
The bandâs fans spent decades searching for the original image used by the Playboy illustrator. Over the weekend, Mark Walker, a Nagel expert, and art broker Monica Moynihan, a fan of the artist, announced their discovery on Instagram.

Duran Duran - The Chauffeur 1982
Rio is the second studio album by English band Duran Duran, released in 1982. A new wave album with musical elements such as dance and synth-pop, Rio is mostly composed of fast, upbeat numbers, with a couple slower synthesiser-based ballads. The cover artwork, painted by Patrick Nagel and designed by Malcolm Garrett to resemble 1950s cigar packaging, is considered one of the greatest of all time.
Duran Duran shot music videos for many of the album's tracks, all of which helped spearhead the 1980s MTV revolution. Accompanied by three worldwide hit singles, Rio peaked at number 2 in the UK and remained in the chart for 110 weeks. Initially unsuccessful in the US, the album was remixed by Capitol Records to better match American radio at the time; the remixed album spent 129 weeks on the Billboard chart, reaching number 6.
Rio initially received mixed-to-negative reviews from critics, who commended the melodies but disparaged the lyrics. Retrospective reviewers consider Rio timeless and the band's best work, praising its instrumentation and band performances. With the album, Duran Duran were forerunners in the Second British Invasion of the 1980s, helping ensure the success of other English artists throughout the decade, and along with Culture Club and Spandau Ballet created a teen frenzy similar to Beatlemania during the first British Invasion of the 60s. Rio has since made appearances on best-of lists and has been reissued several times.
"The Chauffeur" was created on the spot in the studio. During downtime, Nick Rhodes retreated to an auxiliary studio room with Blauel, their tape operator, and crafted a track using keyboards, synthesisers, the sound of an ice cube cracking and a conversation about nature for extra effects. Simon Le Bon accompanied him with lyrics he'd originally written as poetry in 1978, and adding a melody on an ocarina. The final track features no contributions from the three other band members. An acoustic version (Blue Silver) was recorded without Rhodes, which appeared as a B-side to "Rio". The keyboardist later quipped, "I guess that was my punishment for have created an entirely electronic track."
"The Chauffeur" received a total of 64,6% yes votes! Previous Duran Duran polls: #21 "The Wild Boys".

MUSIC I THINK THE POETS WOULD ENJOY
this is not time period accurate but i do not care. i at least tried to keep it pre-2000s. also iâm 100% projecting my music taste onto them. deal with it? spotify playlists, each of which has around 30 songs, are linked below each description ! i spent forever on this đ
Charlie Dalton
iâm not sure that i could pinpoint very many artists heâd particularly like, but this is a classic rock boy right here. heâd be into ac/dc, motley crue, led zeppelin, etc. perhaps a bit of duran duran (this is where iâm projecting the most.) songs about s3x and women, and songs that make him feel like the rebel he is. (this playlist has been gale hansen approved on twitter btw)
Neil Perry
oh i just know this kid would be into some funk and pop, especially 80s and perhaps even new wave (iâm again projecting). now THIS is a duran duran fan (specifically their early stuff), which is unsurprising since the lead singer has a drama degree. heâd also probably like fleetwood mac, and would be well-versed in the bandâs drama. duran duran, wham!, fleetwood mac, abba, maybe even some hall & oates. songs with complex lyrics and also songs that make him wanna dance. lots of upbeat stuff because though he has things that bother him, heâd rather do anything but dwell on them.
Todd Anderson
honestly, considering theyâre roommates, i feel like neil wouldâve had a bit of an impact on toddâs music taste, so thereâs some band influence thereâbut regardless, i think todd would be into more mellow and emotional songs. jeff buckley comes to mind, along with the eagles, the beatles and maybe a splash of the smiths also pls pretend now and then didnât come out last year. he would also be letting it linger i fear
Knox Overstreet
knox would be similar to Charlie, as they probably bond over shared music taste just as much as everything else. very heavy on the classic rock, but a lean more towards songs about needing someone and love songs as he pines for Chris. Tom Petty, Robert Palmer, The Cars, and a bunch of songs introduced to him by Charlie. He sticks more to genre/theme than to a specific artist methinks
Richard Cameron
contrary to what some may think, i think Cameron would absolutely groove to some rock n roll. HOWEVER. he is a 60s-70s rock n roll elitist. he thinks Billy Idolâs cover of Mony Mony is a disgrace. he wholeheartedly believes the Beatles are the best band to have ever graced the planet. The Beatles, The Beach Boys. The Rolling Stones, etc. Maybe even some Simon & Garfunkel. Him and Charlie argue a lot about which decades were the best years of rock music
Gerard Pitts
free my boy. he just wants to dance he ainât do nothing wrong. his music taste has definitely been influenced by some of the other poets, in the sense that if he hears a song with a funky beat that makes him want to dance, itâs added to his mixtape IMMEDIATELY. for this reason, iâm thinking lots of funk and groove. play that funky music white boy! Bee Gees, ABBA, Talking Heads, Pet Shop Boys, etc. as long as he can dance to it he could care less who itâs by
Steven Meeks
another old rock, but more on the calm side with some hints of folk and fun. Donovan, The Beatles (paul is his fav for sure), The Beach Boys, and he definitely loves every white person anthem, including Sweet Caroline. he likes to groove with Pitts but also like soothing music to study to !!! i had to consult my friend on this one i fear i was drawing a blank
AND THAT is my opinion on each of the poetsâ music taste. did i squeeze Duran Duran into almost all of them? perhaps. theyâre my fav band let me live⌠feel free to listen to the playlists (please listen to them. pls i donât want to have made them in vain.) and maybe even become spotify moots with me :D

Rio: Terry Silver x Reader
Tagging:Â @volumesofforgottenlore@kmc1989@somethingdarkside17@noonee333
Terryâs warned you about the car. Itâs a fire engine red 1967 Alfa Romero Spider, one thatâs seen much better days. Cars like this in good condition cost ten grand, yours is not in good condition.
He understands the emotional connection to the car, your parents had picked it up for you after college as a graduation present. Itâs the only tie you have to the both of them now that theyâre gone.
When youâd got back to LA and brought it out of storage, Terry had known it was going to be trouble. It was in the stutter of the engine, the dilapidated roar. Thereâs a Duran Duran tape thatâs been stuck in the stereo for over a decade and the passenger side intermittently unlocks. Everytime you climb inside the thing he gets heart palpitations.
When he gets the call in the middle of the night, it scares the hell out of him. Youâre crying on the phone, thereâs been an accident, you think the car is totalled.
âBut are you ok?â He asks you, gripping the phone so tightly the plastic creaks.
âYea,â You say shakily and he can tell you trying not to cry. âBut the carâŚâ
âAlright baby.â He says softly as he snatches up his keys. âIâm on the way.â
Thereâs already a tow truck on scene, along with the police when he arrives. He sees the red and blue lights flashing and his heart tightens in his chest.
The accident had taken place on a dirt road in El Sereno. You were driving home after dropping off one of the kids from the gallery when a drunk driver had hit your car, almost sending it careening over the edge of the hill. You were lucky it hadnât been going any faster because that car, it has a soft top, heâs certain you wouldnât have made it if it had rolled.
You put your thumb out to flag him down and he pulls up as close as he can. Youâre a mess. Thereâs mascara streaked down your cheeks, blood running from your hairline down your features.
âDid you hit your head?â he asks worriedly, his fingers seeking out the source of the bleeding.
âNo.â You say as he removes a handkerchief from his coat pocket and presses it to the wound. âItâs from the glass.â
When you glance over your shoulder the Romero is being loaded onto a flatbed. The passenger side where the other car hit you is obliterated, the metal contorted beyond repair. You take one look at it and burst into tears.
That night youâre inconsolable.
The loss of that carâŚ
Itâs like youâve lost your parents all over again.
You cry yourself to asleep, your face buried in Terryâs chest as he holds you close, whispering sweet nothings into your hair.
The next day youâre exhausted, banged up and emotionally wrung out. He tries to get you to take a sick day but you refuse because you need to be busy. He makes you take a couple of painkillers before he drops you off at the art gallery where you work.
When he gets to the lot where your car is being held, the damage is worse than he realised.
âYou may as well sell it for scrap.â His mechanic tells him as he studies the vehicle. âThe repairs will cost more than the car is worth.â
âMoney isnât a problem.â He sighs as he crosses his arms over his chest. âDo you think it can be fixed?â
âItâll take some time. The crash did a number on it.â The mechanic says as he smooths his hand over the twisted metal. âI can get it done though.â
Itâs almost a month later that you wake up and find a silver box with a red ribbon perched upon your nightstand. Itâs resting upon the book youâre reading about your namesake Georgia OâKeefe.
When you open it you find a car key inside, one that you recognise. Itâs kind of Terry to give you a keepsake, he knows how much that car means to you, the memories that were attached to it.
âThank you.â You say softly as you linger in the doorway of the kitchen in your robe and hold up the key. âIt means a lot that you could give me something to remember the car by.â
âLetâs step outside.â He says quietly, his palm coming to rest on your lower back as he guides you towards the driveway.
You canât believe what youâre seeing. Sitting there is your car, not ruined or torn apart, but brand new in pristine condition. Your fingertips trail over the bonnet and your throat constricts because you remember the nights you spent with your dad working on the engine, your mother singing along to âRioâ as she revved it at his request.
âHe left the tape deck untouched.â Terry tells you, his lips brushing over your temple. âYou can sing âHungry Like The Wolfâ to your heartâs content.â
Itâs that attention to detail that makes you realise just how much this man cares for you. You feel a surge of something inside of you, a rush of love, of gratitude. Terry has no idea of the gift heâd given you, not really.
âWhy donât you go get dressed?â He suggests, tilting his head back towards the house. âThen you can come back out and take her for a spin.â

Was Madeleine a Nazi collaborator?
In the latest trailer, we see Madeleine throwing an iron against a window from the inside of a shop. Thereâs a swastika painted on the glass, and two people outside.
Considering that Louis and Claudia donât reach Paris until 1945, we can assume this is post-liberation. The Nazis have left, but the reprisals against collaborators were viscous, and lasted for decades.
Collaborators were killed through mob justice, but also had their hair shaved or cut short, covered in tar, were paraded through the streets (sometimes naked), and publicly humiliated as well as pursued through the courts as traitors. (Great article here)
In the previous trailer (the Rolin cut), we see Madeleine screaming while scissors or clippers are used against her head.
Additionally, Roxane Duran shared a BTS photo of her cropped hair wig on her Instagram.
Now, there are many varied reasons why people collaborated with the Nazis. For some it was ideological, but for many it was through circumstance, opportunity, or frankly, being forced against their will. Iâm not speculating whatsoever as to what Madeleineâs reasons might be, or whether Louis or Claudia knew.
But itâs also very interesting that another time when hair was shaved or shorn as a means to dehumanise was prior to public execution, especially by guillotine. Weâve already seen the TdV decapitation posters and can presume the execution will take place on stage, so itâs not a huge stretch that her hair will be removed after the trial but before the execution.
Madeleine being a collaborator would also give the TdV more of a reason to kill her (aside from just being made outside of coven rules), as weâve already seen them massacre a mansion full of collaborators.
I also feel like the writers wouldnât shy away from again forcing the audience to confront difficult feelings in regards to these characters. If we love and sympathise with Madeleine before learning she was a collaborator, how does that make us feel? Is it âbadâ to sympathise with a âbad personâ? And is that any worse than sympathising with literal bloodthirsty monsters?
I absolutely love that this show doesnât take the comfortable option, and forces the viewer to examine morally grey areas. So Iâm excited and intrigued if this is going to be another aspect theyâve added to improve the books.

Unpopular opinion maybe but this is the moment of the day for me.
With Zak in the US, Andrea and Lando were the most senior members of McLaren there today. The look on their faces is âlook what this little team we built didâ.
When Lando turned up at McLaren 7 years ago as a test and reserve driver Andrea was one of the people who took him under his wing. Back then they were back markers, nearly bankrupt and practically sponsorless.
Andrea has helped mould Lando into the driver McLaren needed, not necessarily wanted as they seemed desperate for Daniel to join, but Andrea seemed to know in the future what McLaren would need.
Today fate decided that it would give Lando the challenge and opportunity to show how good he is and how much of a team player he is (something even Christian Horner and Jacques Villeneuve acknowledged). Fate just decided it was also the day McLaren would take the lead in the constructors for the first time in a decade.
It didnât even matter that it wasnât Lando who won the race, they won the race. We can still count on one hand the amount of times they have been able to say that in the last decade.
All that hard work and sacrifice has paid off. Today was the F1 equivalent of handing in your dissertation. We just have to wait till Abu Dhabi now to see what we graduate with.
Duran Duran in the background is just a bonus đ

UK ROCK BEST 100 ALBUMS - The 80's [CROSSBEAT (August 2006)]
80's The turbulent 80s, from New Wave to dance revolution
Continuing the trend from the rise of punk to post-punk at the end of the 1970s, up-and-coming bands burst onto the scene one after another, trying to break out of the established framework, and the 80s opened with new wave currents. Derived from the radical, highly artistic and experimental post-punk/art-punk (P.I.L., Gang of Four, etc.), New Wave "combined elements of other genres (electronic music, world music including Latin American and African music, funk and soul, black music such as jazz, etc.) into rock music, while breaking new ground". This includes electronic-pop (Depeche Mode, New Order, etc.) / New Romantics (Duran Duran, etc.), ska revival (The Specials, Madness, etc.), neo-psyche (Echo & The Bunnymen, etc.), positive punk/goth/dream pop (Bauhaus, The Cure, Cocteau Twins), industrial/noise, funka latina, and early neo-acoustic (Aztec Camera).
Although the New Wave originally started out as a non-mainstream movement, many of the bands with a pop and danceable side were caught up in the zeitgeist and gradually absorbed into the mainstream. By the mid-1980s, the controversial Frankie Goes to Hollywood and the sophisticated sound of the Style Council and Police had achieved international success.
Meanwhile, the 1980s saw the exponential growth of a number of indie labels that emerged from the D.I.Y. spirit of punk. These included 4AD, a decadent aesthetic label, Factory, which became the nucleus of the Manchester scene, Creation, which produced the revolutionaries The Jesus & Mary Chain with their violent noise and sweet melodies, and Rough Trade, which featured The Smiths, a group supported by the "social heretics".
The Smiths did much to elevate indie rock to the foreground and spawned many followers. However, as if to replace their break-up (1987), the central scene was dominated by house and other dance music. So-called 'C86' indie bands (Primal Scream, Wedding Present, Pastels, etc.), who mainly focused on guitar-pop, were steadily active in the underground scene. It was also around this time that US hardcore flowed into the UK, having no small influence on UK indie bands.
Against this backdrop, a new trend was emerging in Manchester that was different from the rest of the country. The city had always had a natural affinity for both dance music and guitar rock, and the Happy Mondays and Stone Roses, who frequented clubs and raves, blended the two effortlessly. In 1989, this led to the explosion of a major musical revolution known as 'Madchester' (indie/dance crossover). -Sumi Imai
Tin Drum Japan (1981) The greatest work of the band led by David Sylvian, who is now an electronica hermit. The sober negotiation sound with full-blown oriental taste has the chic of 'Wabi-sabi'. Eagerly awaits reappraisal. -Mima
Rio Duran Duran (1982) A big hit that successfully dispelled the prejudice that this band was just a band with good looks. The arrangements are still fresh today, with a rich variety of styles ranging from 60s pop to funk. -Kuroda
The Dreaming Kate Bush (1982) A masterpiece in which Kate, who debuted as a girl genius, transformed into a magical woman. The labyrinthine forest-like mystique of her perfectionist, meticulous sound and her uninhibited, magical voice is unique. -Hirokawa
You Can't Hide Your Love Forever Orange Juice (1982) A representative of the neo-acoustic group that emerged to put an end to the dwindling punk movement. Their deep knowledge of black music, insatiable pursuit of guitar sounds and naĂŻve lyrics captivated young people. -Kuroda
High Land, Hard Rain Aztec Camera (1983) A masterpiece that made 'neo-acoustic', or rather 'music city Glasgow', a household name. Beautifully crafted with a meaty soul sensibility lurking in the folkiness, and later evolved from it. -Sawada
Construction Time Again Depeche Mode (1983) A perfect balance of hard elements and beautiful ennui melodies, including an early introduction of industrial beats. A monumental work that established the uniqueness of the Depeche sound. -Mima
Porcupine Echo & The Bunnymen (1983) The third Echo & The Bunnymen album, the quintessential UK New Wave record. Ian McCulloch's cool-headed gaze and sharp soundscape heralded the arrival of a new era that had broken away from punk. -Otani
Power, Corruption & Lies New Order (1983) A seminal work that attempted to 'break away from rock' by approaching New York house, but ended up having the influence to advance rock music itself. It was topsy-turvy at the time. -Mima
Synchronicity The Police (1983) The Police were actually a group of techie carriers who borrowed from punk. Each of their albums is "a perfection that you wouldn't expect from three people", but this last album is also a superb pop album. -Koguchi
Treasure Cocteau Twins (1984) Third album from the 80s 4AD representatives. This album pushed Elizabeth's voice out of the dark sound world and broke new ground filled with light and a sense of floating. Includes the classic song "Lorelei". -Yamashita
The Top The Cure (1984) The Cure's sixth album, which established a unique world with its pop sensibility and gloomy lyricism. Robert Smith's character became prominent from this time onwards. 'The Caterpillar' was a big hit. -Yamashita
Welcome to the Pleasuredome FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD (1984) FGTH caused a stir in British society in 1984 only. The treatment of gays, politics, and sexuality is intriguing and Trevor Horn's sound is lively and too ostentatious, but in a way a symbol of the times. -Sawada
CafĂŠ Bleu Style Council (1984) After the break-up of The Jam at the height of their popularity, Weller chose jazz and soul as his next design. What the bewildered fans heard was destructive anger and beauty in a cool soundscape. -Kuroda
Psychocandy The Jesus & Mary Chain (1985) Sweet, decadent melodies emerged amidst raging feedback noise. A shocking work from 1985 that had a profound influence on subsequent shoegaze and alternative bands. -Kuroda
Steve McQueen Prefab Sprout (1985) One of the finest albums by the mixed gender group led by legendary songwriter Paddy McAloon. Brilliantly produced by Thomas Dolby. -Kuroda
Cupid & Psyche 85 Scritti Politti (1985) The second album by Scritti, who at the time were a trio. Their sweet voices and pleasing sound were well received, and songs such as 'The Word Girl', which incorporated reggae rhythms, were big hits. -Yamashita
The Queen Is Dead The Smiths (1986) The Smiths are the charismatic band of those who turned their backs on the glamorous 80s. A masterpiece in which Morrissey's fanged words, heightened by criticism of the national anthem, and Johnny Marr's lyricism intersected at the boiling point. -Sawada.
Saint Julian Julian Cope (1987) Made in 1987 by the Phantom of Liverpool. Narcissism is still alive and well, but the artist aims to conquer himself with ever more straight-forward playing and singing. The artist's confident, robust expression is dependable. -Hirokawa
If I Should Fall from Grace with God The Pogues (1987) The Pogues' best work, combining the melancholy melodies of Irish trad with fun-filled beats. The indie spirit of the Pogues brought a breath of fresh air to the rigid UK scene. -Otani
The Stone Roses The Stone Roses (1989) A work that set the standard for the UK sound from the 1990s onwards, including the band's eclectic sense of combining guitar rock with acid house and the attitude of the band. A masterpiece under the sun that gave birth to Oasis. -Mima

My intro cause why not đĽąđĽą
About me:
I don't like people calling me by my real name online (doesn't matter whether you know me personally or not, unless it's through messages), so I prefer to go by my username, "Bluegirlteam" or "Blue" for short.
I prefer she/her/hers pronouns, but I don't mind going by he/him prns if I'm cosplaying a character that uses those prns.
I'm 15. (đđ)
I'm Vietnamese American. đťđłâď¸
What's mainly on my page!!!!!!!!!
- American Psycho
- Re-Animator
-Saw
-Alien
-SpongeBob Squarepants
-Elvira Mistress of the Dark
My main interests and hobbies!!!!! (List above included)
I love anything retro or vintage, the 80s mainly if you were to go by decade. The music, fashion, movies, etc. I'm going to talk like it's an essay now so hahhhhhh đđ
Music wise, I'm more into new wave such as Duran Duran, Wham! and ABC. As well as some pop music like Madonna and Hall and Oates, or international music like Luis Miguel and Massimo Raineri. This isn't all, but that's some. If you tell or ask me anything about modern music I'll look at you like đ¤¨..
Even though I'm not into modern music, I do love modern movies. I still prefer older movies though. I love to watch trashy, campy horror movies, especially those low budget ones. I'm also into giallo movies. I'm mainly into sci fi horror/slasher films basically.
I'm not going to go too much into fashion, but I will say I like to cosplay and elaborate.
All my cosplays are either thrifted or are already in my closet. I prefer to get my clothes secondhand and make/adjust them myself, but if I see something or can't find it anywhere I'll get an item online sometimes. I analylze tf out of outfits, so my cosplays look as accurate as possible. Also my cosplays are mainly on Tik Tok and sometimes IG if you wanna check them out lalallalallalla
My boundaries
If you're a racist; zionist; homophobic/anti-LBGTQ+; proshipper; pedo; ableist; etc, gtfo you're weird.
I'm also very aware that the jokes I make are very suggestive, but if you're going to make inappropriate jokes, don't make them about me as I'm a minor. This specifically goes towards me being in cosplay since it's literally still me but dressed as some character but idgaf if it's my Roblox character or something since it literally isn't me lmaoaoaoa.
Socials đđâď¸
IG/Letterboxd: bluegirlteam
Tik Tok: patr1ckslayman
I'm on Tik Tok and IG everyday, so if you're going to message me I'll most likely reply faster on there. For safety reasons most of my DMs are off (unless it sends a request that I could accept) but if you comment on something I'll still try to reply.
