#dune spice wars

The game I've been working on for the past year is finally out of early access ;;;;; Here is some of the work I did on the new faction in Dune : Spice Wars, House Ecaz ! It's been a privilege to work on it, especially on the leader. The whole team absolutely killed it and gave their best to stick the landing 😤🔥

The greatest feeling of writing fanfiction for me:

Writing about something that's never really detailed in the main lore only for official content to come out about it, showing that your interpretation was damn near spot-on.

One of the funnier bugs that was in EA for Spice Wars was that if you assassinated a faction you could sometimes randomly have your main base destroyed by them.

This was especially funny when someone posted about this bug with a screenshot of them playing House Harkonnens having got destroyed by a dead House Atreides faction, and someone noted that technically this did happen in the lore.

isn’t it kinda ironic that in star wars, there’s a nod to poe being a spice runner, and in dune that leto wanted to be a pilot? kinda funny too, considering that a lot of star wars is inspired, if not copied straight from dune. i love both of the franchises though, and i love oscar isaac.

i think i’ve finally realised why they had the whole stupid “surprise twins!” and padme’s ridiculously weird death in the star wars prequels

they ripped off dune. it’s a major plot point in dune messiah that chani knows she’s having twins, the medics know she’s having twins, but she never actually tells paul they’re having twins because she assumes he already knows thanks to his prescience. you literally see her think as much in her own pov.

and chani dies because she only got pregnant in the first place due to taking a fuckton of spice! she has to continue taking horrific amounts of spice to survive, which also accelerates her pregnancy, and the strain of it all kills her. then paul wanders off to the desert to die, which is blamed on a broken heart (even though it’s more due to losing his prescient sight).

and that makes sense there! she knows what’s happening, paul mostly knows. they both knew the risks and they made their choices.

but in star wars? where they have significantly more advanced tech than dune thanks to not banning computers? where even padme doesn’t know she’s having twins? and dies “of a broken heart”?

like i realise i’m quite late to the party on this front, since other ppl have pointed it out before, but it is just so blatant when you read dune messiah. seriously, george lucas, if you’re going to rip it off that openly, at least make sure it still makes sense!
