Charles Stuart, Third Duke of Richmond and Sixth Duke of Lennox (1639–1672)
Artist: Sir Peter Lely and Studio (Dutch, 1618–1680)
Date: c. 1661
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh, NC, United States
Biography
Charles Stewart, 3rd Duke of Richmond KG (7 March 1639 – December 1672) was an English peer who was the fourth cousin of Charles II of England, being both descended in the male line from John Stewart, 3rd Earl of Lennox.
He was the only son and heir of George Stewart, 9th Seigneur d'Aubigny by his wife Lady Katherine Howard, a daughter of Theophilus Howard, 2nd Earl of Suffolk. He was a grandson of Esmé Stewart, 3rd Duke of Lennox.
On 10 December 1645, he was created Baron Stuart of Newbury, Berkshire, and Earl of Lichfield, titles conferred on him "to perpetuate the titles which were intended to have been conferred on his uncle" Lord Bernard Stewart, youngest son of the Duke of Lennox, who had been killed in the Battle of Rowton Heath in the English Civil War in September of that year.
In January 1658, Charles Stewart went into exile in France, and took up his residence in the house of his uncle, Ludovic Stewart, 10th Seigneur d'Aubigny.[2] In the following year he fell under the displeasure of The Protectorate's Council of State, and warrants were issued for seizing his person and goods.
He returned to England with King Charles II in 1660, on the Restoration of the Monarchy and sat in the Convention Parliament, showing great animosity towards the supporters of the Commonwealth. On the death of his 10-year-old cousin Esmé Stewart on 10 August 1660, He succeeded as 3rd Duke of Richmond and 6th Duke of Lennox. In that same year he was created Hereditary Great Chamberlain of Scotland, Hereditary Great Admiral of Scotland, and Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset. On 15 April 1661 he was invested with the Order of the Garter.
Richmond died in December 1672 and was buried in Westminster Abbey on 20 September 1673. As he died without issue, his titles became extinct, with the exception of that of Baron Clifton, which passed with most of his property to his sister Katherine, Lady O'Brien. His wife, however, had been granted the Lennox estates for life. In 1675, the titles Duke of Richmond, Duke of Lennox and Earl of March, were resurrected for Charles Lennox, 1st Duke of Richmond and Lennox, the illegitimate son of King Charles II by his mistress Louise de Kérouaille.

Top 10 SH Characters
I actually love all of them, so even if they didn't crack the top 10, it's not that I disliked the character.
Tabitha. My girl. Love her so much. You know I'm down for all of the cousin bonding. I actually hated her at first, but she grew on me by the end of episode 1. Like, ride-or-die.
Avery. I always liked Avery's chill demeaner, but when they are like, kind of into getting possessed, and then follow it up with "I kind of like the Ditchlings and would 100% incubate one of their larvae if it wouldn't kill me," and like. That is unhinged. Love that for them.
Doc Kelly. I love her. She is such a well-written character, and she absolutely exists in like every rural Appalachian town. She is so down to earth and it contrasts so well with her emo artist son, who she does not understand at all but still loves fiercely.
Dustin. My boy. Light of my life. Every playthrough w/o Talk To Animals is heartbreaking because we don't get to chill.
Frou-Frou. She is such a bitch. I adore her.
Reese. He's weird as fuck. He also turns into a giant whatever-the-hell-that-is. I get the vibe that he would fit in real well in the Addams Family.
Sybil. Do not trust this woman at all, but she is extremely intriguing. I want to know more about her. Beldam energy.
Duke. He reminds me of my great uncle, but like without the negative parts. He's like the idealized version of my uncle. Additionally, I have known so many old guys like him.
The Bus Stranger. There is something so specifically wrong with him, and he is such an iconic character. Even if he never shows up again, he sets the tone for the whole story perfectly.
Stella. I feel like I shouldn't have to explain this one. Likeable, layered.

The new queen's white falcon was on prominent display throughout the pageant, resting on a bed of Tudor roses. Although it is now synonymous with Anne and the Boleyns in general, Henry had only granted it to her on her elevation to the marquessate of Pembroke. It was a fitting choice because the same bird had long been an emblem of Anne's Irish ancestors, the Butlers, earls of Ormond. It also had strong royal associations and had been used as an emblem by the celebrated warrior king Edward III, as well as by Henry's maternal grandfather, Edward IV, with whom he strongly identified.

✩🪡🐈Review:
This historical romance is absolute perfection!
Since his return from the war, the Duke of Ashbury is in need wife. Enter Emma Gladstone, a vicar’s daughter turned seamstress. When she conveniently appears in his library wearing his former fiancé’s wedding gown demanding payment, he decides she’ll do.
I loved watching Emma and Ash’s marriage of convenience slowly turn into something real! In the beginning, Ash was determined to keep them apart by creating rules so that they wouldn’t fall in love. I knew from their first interaction, however, that his plans would fall apart because their chemistry is undeniable! Emma is stubborn and sees right through the walls that Ash puts up. Their intelligent, humorous personalities spark a connection between them that only strengthens as they help each other embrace their insecurities.
I was pleasantly surprised by how comedic this book is! Emma and Ash’s banter was incredibly entertaining and made me laugh out loud at times. If you’re looking for a historical romance that is reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast with both steam and humor, then this is your book! I was hooked from the first page and am convinced it was written for me!

Eton College holds a cherished place in the annals of His Serene Highness the Count of Münnich and Reutern’s family history, with their connection dating back to its very foundation.
The illustrious Founder of Eton College, King Henry VI, is His Highness’s seventeenth great uncle. This noble lineage traces its roots through his half-brother, The Count’s seventeenth great-grandfather, Edmund Tudor, 1st Earl of Richmond. Notably, King Henry VI was also a great-grandson of His Serene Highness’s eighteenth great-grandfather, John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster.
The family’s ties to Eton College have remained steadfast across generations. Many generations of The Count’s grandfathers and extended family members were privileged attendees of this institution. From those bygone days to the present, Eton College continues to hold a special place in the hearts of His Serene Highness’s family.

Maybe we'll get a little Vanya press during the interim? 🤞I've loved watching Andrew and Simon interact in the past, so it would be wonderful if we could have that again!

Gretchen/Duke decision
Episode 1 spoilers!
I think a lot of non-powerful-built people struggled with this one, but I don't regret saving Gretchen at all. Of course, I feel awful about Duke's death, but for me it's all about the choice you make with the information you have at that moment.
Before the actual decision, Stella warns you that Gretchen is able to get out of her harness when she tries to chase stuff, so you know that's a potential risk from the start.
When the big choice comes, you're not presented with the options "save Duke" or "save Gretchen", but only "dive for flashlight" or "dive for Gretchen". Although it's heavily implied that both are in danger, I try put myself in the shoes of my character and do what would come naturally to me (at least in my canon run). I saw these two options:
Assist Duke (armed) when he was getting ready to shoot at the unidentified creatures.
Prevent Gretchen from charging at the unidentified creatures.
It was obvious to me that only one of them was in immediate danger: Gretchen. She was about to run off and I had to stop her right that second, because I saw what happened to the chicken. In my eyes Duke was in as much danger as Stella or myself at that point. Maybe even less, because he was the only one with a weapon.
Here's the thing: Duke's death was an unpredictable accident. He was startled by a creature and tripped, shooting himself in the process. I couldn't have known that would happen. Well, I could because of the context clues, but my character couldn't. What my character knew was that the dog that had been put under her care was about to escape. Duke was fine. So I think she'd be like "let me get a good hold of this dog right now, we'll see about attacking the creatures after". Basically, I thought the cause-effect relation was clear when it came to "let Gretchen go - Gretchen dies" but not "give light to Duke - he survives".
To be honest, if the game had explicitly said "save Duke/Gretchen" or if Duke was in a more helpless situation, I would have saved Duke. As much as I adore Gretchen (even without Talk To Animals), I would ensure the safety of the human being first. But that was not the case, so I stand by my decision.
