(Doubt I'm the first to suggest this, but--)

"Baldur's Gate 3." The survivors of the nautiloid find a tadpoled drow. He has lavender eyes and a head wound and can't remember literally anything before waking up on the beach, including common knowledge and recent history. Astarion dubs him "Tav." It's a bit frustrating to deal with a total amnesiac, but he'd good at fighting (the scimitars he took from the imps on the nautiloid feel at home in his hands) and he has a talent for crazy-but-effective strategy, so Tav is an asset to the team.

People keep telling him he looks like "Drizzt Do'urden," who is apparently a legendary hero. It must be a coincidence; Tav is too weak to be a legendary hero. Astarion concurs; Drizzt Do'urden is too powerful to be captured by mere mindflayers. Tav must just be a Seldarine drow who followed in his footsteps.

The quest progresses. Tav keeps discovering skills he didn't know he had--survival, tracking, an uncanny way with animals. The Underdark is just as easy for him to navigate as the surface (which is weird; if he's Seldarine, then he'd have no experience with the Underdark). Sometimes flashes of memory return to him, people he loved and wrongs he suffered, but the memories slip away just as quickly as they come.

Then they get to Moonrise Towers. And in the depths of the mindflayer colony, in a room of treasures hoarded from their victims, he finds a pair of magical scimitars and a little onyx statue of a cat.

They're his. He knows in his heart that they're his. And a lot of things suddenly make sense.

Drow Reference Material for your OC and Fanfiction Purposes

This is not a complete list, but here are some references I use often when trying to write thins that are somewhat lore accurate.

This is one of the coolest books I have in physical form. Fortunately for you, you can get the whole book for free in digital form here. I used this CONSTANTLY when writing fics or formulating OCs.

Published in 2012, the same year the Legend of Drizzt book Charon's Claw released, it goes into INCREDIBLE detail about drow culture and the city of Menzoberranzan itself. 10/10

Published in 1992 , Menzoberranzan City of Drow, has a lot of interesting information, but some of it might be old and out of date. There are a few things I noticed that have been changed. This is still a great source of more drow information.

There are two Drow of the Underdark books... this one is for the Forgotten Realms setting and in 2e. The 2007 one is more for other settings as was pointed out to me.

Published in 2007, Drow of the Underdark provides more insight into drow culture. There are, however, aspects of this that are outdated. I take some of these older books as if they were written by a person who was observing the drow as an outsider with their own prejudices and preconceived notions.

Demihuman Deities has a ton of text on lots of gods. Good reference for drow gods and just about any other god you want more information on.

Drow language translator - I don't know how accurate this is, but I use it for fanfiction writing anyway.

Excellent resource for Legend of Drizzt and related Forgotten Realms books. Timeline is very valuable when writing fanfiction.

One of my favorite Astarion lines when you select him has to be the “More like Drizzt DON’T’Urden!” one. Not because it’s actually funny, but because there’s never anything Drizzt Do’Urden related happening whenever he says it. He’s just Thinking About Him.
