The dog has lived in the theater for three years can wag his tail to the 👻 music during '기다려(Wait)'.
(* That's a joke using a Korean proverb. '서당개 삼이면 풍월을 읊는다' = The dog has lived in the school for three years can recite poems about nature.)

I’m really loving Dream Theatre’s early albums particularly Metropolis part II (haven’t gotten round to more recent stuff), but fucking hell the reliance on studio fade outs when not directly transitioning into the next song is egregious. It really feels like I’ve opened my eyes halfway through a hypnotists routine and I see them halfway out the door with their pants down

KALEIDOSCOPIC GLORY
Transatlantic are a genuine progressive rock supergroup, albeit a part-time one. Comprising members of Spock’s Beard (Neal Morse) Dream Theatre (Mike Portnoy) Marillion (Pete Trewavas) and the Flower Kings (Roine Stolt), the band released its first album, SMPT:e in 2000. In February 2014 Kaleidoscope, their fourth studio album, appeared. Another huge opus blending symphonic prog rock, metal, hard…

I think the best thing about liking theatre is that when you get a little crazy about a character (in any way shape or form), you can wear their skin if you like. You can say their words and perform as them in front of an audience and for a play’s duration you have as much claim to that character as anyone else who’s ever performed them has. And it’s literally the best way you can honour them and keep them alive. Which is my biggest issues with movies and tv shows and all that is it’s seperate and only really ever one idea done with one set of people, and if the same idea keeps showing up it’s generally a bad thing. But with theatre and performing arts, you can do the same thing over and over with different people and it fucking rocks every time

PORTRAIT WEEK
We saw David Tennant's Macbeth performance on West End with my best friend last November. The show was absolutely brilliant and we were 1,5 m from my favourite actor!!! <3 Those awesome sound effects gave me the idea for this portrait.

If you love vampires, listen up!
Do you enjoy vampires, 80’s music, a healthy dose of homoeroticism - all with a theatrical flair? Well look no further, for I submit to you Dance of the Vampires.
Tumblr media
(More cool pictures at the very bottom)
What is it you may ask? It’s a musical about a vampire who seduces a girl and invites her to his midnight ball - an offer she simply cannot turn down. The whole thing sorta gives Phantom of the Opera vibes, but like, wayyy less creepy (despite it being a literal vampire). I will say now that yes, Tanz der Vampire (the original title of Dance of the Vampires), is in German, but there is a full recording with English subtitles on youtube, so please don’t let that prevent you from watching it. Now if you’re still reading, allow me to elaborate on the 80’s music and homoeroticism that I previously mentioned.
Let’s start with the tragic gay romance, because I’m sure that’s what you want to hear about first. While not a main part of the musical, the main vampire’s son falls in love with - gasp! - the vampire hunter’s apprentice. They dance together, and with stage magic involving a mesh screen and an actor on the other side dressed identically to the apprentice, it appears as though the vampire has no reflection in the “mirror”. Of course, the feeling is not mutual, as the apprentice is only at the castle to rescue the girl, who he is in love with.
Now, onto the 80’s music. Surely you’ve heard of the song Total Eclipse of the Heart, or the singer Meatloaf (even if it was just his role as Eddie in Rocky Horror Picture Show). Well, the man who wrote that song and a majority if not all of Meatloaf’s work, was Jim Steinman, who composed the musical. The soundtrack contains a decent amount of electric guitar, even a bit of synth at parts, and all around just sounds awesome. However, he only had about a month and a half to compose it all, so he reused some stuff he previously wrote, including a couple Meatloaf songs and Total Eclipse of the Heart, a song he originally wrote for a Nosferatu musical that ended up not getting produced. It was actually originally titled “Vampires in Love,” so what better song is there to fill the place of a big love duet between the girl and the Count?
Tanz der Vampire is my favorite musical ever. I’ve loved it ever since Count von Krolock appeared on the screen and first began to sing, and you may love it too. So I implore you. Please do yourself a favor and check it out. I’ll provide a link of a full recording with English subtitles here, but it should also be the first result on youtube when you search “tanz der vampire english subtitles.” (That production also has Drew Sarich as the Count, my personal favorite.) I should add though, do not watch the broadway production because it’s terrible.
If you’re still not sold, I’m not sure what else I could say to convince you, but hopefully you at least found this interesting and learned something new. If you want to know more about Tanz der Vampire or would like to hear about other musicals about vampires, please let me know and I can answer any questions. (If even one person watches it because of this I’ll consider this a success, and if you do watch it please let me know because it would really make my day.)
And now I’ll leave you with some pictures of Tanz der Vampire as a last resort to convince you how awesome it is and that you should watch it. (I also put in the alt text the song each picture is from for anyone interested)

breaking down thinking of Neil’s smile when he came out of the curtain, crown in hand, hoping his father was proud of him, and how fast it faded when seeing the stern expression on the man’s face.

David Tennant in Shakespeare plays
[As you like it, Measure for measure, love's labor lost, Richard II, Hamlet, The Comedy of errors, King Lear, Romeo and Juliet, much Ado about nothing, Macbeth]
P.s. he had also been in Edward III as Edward the black prince and the midsummer night's dream as Lysander/flute but I couldn't find any pictures from those plays. Also he had taken part in many audio performances from Archangel archive full Shakespeare plays collection to BBC radio Macbeth 2022.

My new track is a dreamy instrumental inspired by the flurry of emotions, limerance, anxiety and wonder of new love. I have been doing some soundtracks lately and this piece was for a dance scene between two Lesbian characters falling for each other, so I tried to evoke the ancient world of Sappho and the mystical beauty of those distant times while centering the character' emotions. Hope you enjoy!
If you like it, I have put a collection of some of my unreleased soundtrack work in the Bandcamp version as bonus tracks! Name your price and pretty sure you can stream them on there too. I hope it can be the soundtrack to some of your moments!

just saw asteroid city last night, pls explain the proposed significance of the kiss!!
answering this publicly hope thats ok! cant do a readmore im on mobile *****asteroid city spoilers below beware*****
i dont remember anyones names so this is gonna sound partly unhinged. okay so the edward norton playwright and jason schwartzman actor (not character, in the black and white parts) are lovers right. tbh i thought this was kind of a gag and forgot about it. but later we find out that the playwright died 6 months into the production. i didnt make the connection that THAT’s why the actor-jason has to suddenly leave the stage and freaks out backstage about how he’s not sure he’s Doing it right. hes not talking about acting!! because he himself is literally grieving his lover while he’s playing a character who’s grieving his wife written by his lover so obviously it’s too much!!! actor-jason is trying to find meaning in his death through his writing but there isnt any meaning in death [gerris drinkwater voice] which is what the play is trying to say anyway. he doesnt think he’s performing grief right even in his own life!!! (and tbh it’s the 50s so he wouldnt be able to perform grief publicly anyway!!!!) the play starts with a car accident… anyone would search for some hidden meaning there, some sign…. so when he talks to margot robbie outside it’s not really about finding the CHARACTER’s motivations it’s about the actor himself being able to process the playwright’s death! and adrien brody director was probably also dealing with that too (him and norton seemed to be good buddies) so the whole “sleeping backstage” thing gets a bit sadder maybe? maybe everyone else got this in the theatre and im just stupid lol but crazy making stuff to me!!! the whole story is about sublimated gay grief that cannot be expressed?!?!
the tweet that caught me onto this was here which posits that the playwright’s death was a suicide but i think that’s pretty stupid and unnecessary because the whole thing about the play asteroid city is that death is random and meaningless. im pretty sure that’s what the alien represents— a shocking and absurd event that isnt outright evil or menacing, not something anyone can predict or make sense of, it’s just a thing that happens to you out of nowhere, it doesnt mean anything. he’s a little black figure, he’s death! giving and taking! aagh

sing (2016) is such a deceptively good movie it's crazy. you watch it once and youre like "Haha yeah love the seth macfarlane rat." second time youre like "Oh i think the matthew mcconaghey koala and john c reilly sheep might be gay." watch it again and youre nearly moved to tears by reese witherspoon pig arc because it so accurately represents the quiet ache of motherhood. watch it again and youre like Yeah the koala and sheep are definitely gay. watch it again and feel overwhelmed by the humanity of it all... by strangers who grow to take care of each other no matter what, strangers who are no longer strangers, but who are also bound by nothing tangible that you can see.
