This podfic was made for the Small Fandoms Bang round 12. I had so much fun working on it :3 Dramacon is a comic I have loved since it came out when I was in high school. It’s just about a girl going to an anime convention. It’s adorable and I highly recommend. If you are unfamiliar with it though, I feel like if you have ever been to an anime or comic convention, you will still enjoy this fic.

Audio Length: 01:32:49
Summary: When Christie decided not to go to Yattacon 2019, she honestly expected it to be a one-year palate cleanser. Suffice to say, life got a little bit in the way of those plans.
Now, five years later, she is more excited than ever to return to her first ever con and experience all its highs and lows all over again as she helps out in the dealer's room, drinks up the atmosphere, catches up with old friends, and is horrified by the length of the various lines. Expect lots of pawky (and other off-brand names), cosplay, and nostalgic feels for cons past and present.

Writing Reference: Lexical Blends
A lexical blend - takes two lexemes which overlap in form, and welds them together to make one.
Lexeme - the smallest contrastive unit in a semantic system (run, cat, switch on); also called lexical item.
Some longstanding examples & a few novelties from recent publications:
motor + hotel = motel
breakfast + lunch = brunch
helicopter + airport = heliport
smoke + fog = smog
advertisement + editorial = advertorial
Channel + Tunnel = Chunnel
Oxford + Cambridge = Oxbridge
Yale + Harvard = Yarvard
slang + language = slanguage
guess + estimate = guesstimate
square + aerial = squaerial
toys + cartoons = toytoons
breath + analyser = breathalyser
affluence + influenza = affluenza
information + commercials = infomercials
dock + condominium = dockominium
NOTES
Enough of each lexeme is usually retained so that the elements are recognizable.
In most cases, the second element is the one which controls the meaning of the whole.
Example: "brunch" is a kind of lunch, not a kind of breakfast – which is why the lexeme is brunch and not, say, "lunkfast".
Similarly, a "toytoon" is a kind of cartoon (one which generates a series of shop toys), not a kind of toy.
Blending increased in popularity in the latter half of the 20th century, being increasingly used in commercial and advertising contexts:
Products were sportsational, swimsational, and sexsational.
TV provided dramacons, docufantasies, and rockumentaries.
The forms are felt to be eye-catching and exciting; but how many of them will still be around in 2050 remains an open question.

If you have some time this weekend and have an interest in Asian dramas there is a free online convention running from Friday to Sunday.
You can reserve a ticket (did I mention that it's free) and see the schedule of panels here: https://upallnightcon.wixsite.com/dramacon
If you want to listen to me ramble about my blorbos and possibly cry over how much I love them I am co-modding a DMBJ panel tomorrow at 5pm EDT with @foxofninetales. It will be an intro to the franchise for those who want to learn more, and general flailing for those who already know about Pangzi the characters and want to share their love.
Then at 9pm EDT tomorrow I am co-modding a panel on Guardian with @merinnan. This one is at 2am my time so I can't promise I will be coherent but I can promise I will cry over how pretty Zhu Yilong is, espexially when he's wearing tailored suits and sleeve garters.
So feel free to come and join us! Did I mention that it's free?
Happy to answer any questions. My DMs are open.

Follow up fic asks: 35 and 38 ?:D
35. What’s your favorite fic you’ve posted?
Oh man. Ask me a hard one why dontcha? Let's do three.
On Cosplay and Cuddlepiles - First Wotakoi OT4 longfic; I think it turned out really well.
Meet Me at Mickey D's - pure silliness based on a real life thing, and something that would Absolutely Happen in canon
The Lutece 𝖥̶𝗂̶𝖾̶𝗅̶𝖽̶ Fic - I got to play around with style for this one, because the Luteces are the Luteces. And I like the result a lot.
38. What is your most self-indulgent posted story?
There's... a few smutty things that I could very easily put in this spot, but let me go another way: There's a fic I wrote for Dramacon, which is a pretty self-indulgent fandom for me in the first place, while I was very much missing cons and wanting to experience them again. So this is very much me living vicariously through feels, a few months before attending my first convention since Lockdown.
Yattacon 2023: A Long-Awaited Homecoming
Also, honourable mention to The Ouran High School Host Club Special Twentieth Anniversary Reunion because anything catching up with my favourite characters as they age alongside me is going to be pretty darn self-indulgent.

aren't you the person who thought someone wanted to shoot you because you went to dashcon
Technically yes. Scrolling while sleep deprived doesn't help to beat the Piss On The Poor website allegations, kids.
Saw dashcon, saw a gun gif, brain did not comprehend it was a Portal gif at 3 am and while I regret derailing OPs silly joke with their friend, I still stand by the position that the harassment, abuse and hate Dashcon attendees got and sometimes stil get is unwarranted, inaccurate, sexist and ableist.
It was not a personal threat to me even if the post had been the way I read it while in an altered state, but that sort of post and attitude certainly existed and it pisses me off. Telling people to kill themselves is just fucked up behavior, no matter how some people try to justify it to themselves.
"We went, conrunners were shit, stuff happened and we had the best time we could anyway" just doesn't feed insecure egos like "ooh annoying stupid tumblrinas got what was coming to them" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway, imma hang on until tumblr crumbles into dust or Automattic breaks the site trying to force it onto the WordPress engine. You can't kill me, I'm already cringe.

your art style quite reminds me of Svetlana Chmakova's Dramacon trilogy! Some of the jokes aged really poorly, but the overall story and art style is very cute and reminds me of when I was a kid and read it for the first time. I read it every time before I attend a convention now., as I have for nearly half a lifetime.
idk dramacon but i like Crush!! its really cute so tyyy❤️❤️

I have started my own book company. It's a book group with a manga imprint. I did it this way because I want to branch out into other types of books, such as art books and novels. (Generally, I'd like to keep it art related, though.) It also helps to keep all the things I wanna create under one umbrella, the same family, if you will. I don't plan to publish other people's work.
I wanted to build my own company because I just love love love the idea of putting together my own books MY way, from designing the covers to adding whatever I wanted inside. This stems from a blog post I read years ago about the series Princess Ai, where the writer mentioned it got special treatment from the publisher because it was the CEO's passion project (I think they called it his pet). And honestly? Valid. Maybe not if you're publishing work by other creators and giving them the short end of the stick, but I can honestly get behind giving your own series all the publishing love you think it deserves, and making sure it gets all the things you were hoping for. When you work for a publisher, you have to fit their image. When you become your own publisher, you get to MAKE your own image. Actually, multiple images, if you understand branding and imprints.
I just hate to see creators have their work shafted or changed by a company whose only goal is to make money. To see them have to sit there with their fingers crossed, waiting to see if their publisher is willing to put out an artbook for their series. Or in the case of some Webtoons, they have to wait to see if their work is gonna get printed at all (I know I'M certainly waiting to see if one of my favorites will get a print release). And in the case of traditional publishers, they have to worry about their series being canceled. I understand a publisher wants to make a profit, and a creator has to receive proper guidance on a series, but I just don't want to see my work at the mercy of a company who'll just trash it if it isn't profitable. Or who'll force it to keep going beyond its intended end if it's popular. I understand the need for a second opinion, but there are too many things up in the air for me to entrust it all to a publisher.
Of course I'd love to work for a publisher given the chance. I don't wanna work on the adaptation of some YA novel, but would I want to do a short, original series with a publisher? Yes! Would I love to do even a one shot? Yes again! It's been my dream to work for some of these publishers and I still think it would be so cool! But would I give them my passion projects? Hard no. It's too risky. Too iffy. I've seen the pattern of manga influenced comics in the west, and historically, they don't do well in print because few are willing to buy them. They get axxed after a volume or two, and I’ve seen this tons of times. If I go with a publisher, it would be a waste to give them something I'd planned a long series for. It's best to give them something with a short plot. This stuck in my head with Dramacon, as the creator herself said she made sure the first volume was self contained because they didn't know where the story was gonna go, and I think that was really smart. To this day, I think that's the route I'd choose. (Which is also why even something with just one volume is fine.) I'd resist getting my hopes up with a publisher, I've seen so many others have theirs dashed. The companies, too! I'm sure they had high hopes for some of the series they worked on.
By publishing myself, I can print all the volumes and artbooks I want. I can fulfill the dream of seeing my work in print myself. And that is what I want to do. The process of planning a book seems so exciting! And I can't wait to get into it!
