Remember when Cartoon Network had a show about glorified exterminators? Dragon Hunters is one of my favorite series and I just rewatched the movie so here’s some sketches I did for fun
Going to write the reboot I swear, and then find someone crazy enough to fund it
I'm rewatching Dragon Hunters and I'll never get over the fact that Lian-chu can't read but HECTOR can
like how did that happen? Obviously on Lian-chu's part he either just didn't care enough to bother, since it's not THAT important in this universe, or he just likes Gwizdo reading to him or something similar
but like
why DOES Hector know???
Did GWIZDO teach him? Did he teach himself? Did he just hang around Gwizdo and his contracts that he picked it up???
The fact that Hector can read is just the funniest thing(which is probably the point, to be fair)
Have you seen Dragon Hunters? It came out in 2008 and was my favorite thing for a solid month as a 10yo
I really really love this specific dragon from it. This is perfect. The other featured dragons were okay but this this is the best of the bunch.
I saw it a while ago and thought it was pretty Okay for what it is. I know it was based on a tv show that also had some really funky dragon designs. I think if I was 3-6 years younger I would have been completely obsessed with this franchise and HTTYD as a kid.
I don’t know too much about this series but Hector is really fucked, watching his own kind be slaughtered on mass and loyal to their killers. Treacherous being.
A list if my fictional crushes (nobody cares but this is a tad bit long 👀)

Anyways, I’m done yapping. Just a disclaimer so that people don’t get mad or anything, I’m not sexualizing any of these characters. Also for people wondering about the characters that are minors, I am also a minor.
I have a big obsession with fictional characters 😁
I love how most of these were scrunkly middle aged men and then there’s just two girls (Carmen Sandiego and Eska turned me gay for a minute)
here are the finalized brackets! the tournament will be split into two brackets. the finalists of both will go up against each other to determine the winner. characters who were the most popular during submissions will join in round 2

Fluff, Angst, Suggestive Content
Romantic, Platonic, Familial
Yandere(??) I suppose
DONTs
The obvious ones. I don't have much to say here.
I won't make incest.
Explicit abuse.
Proper NSFW/Smut, just not my thing
Characters off the top of my head I'll write for:
DBD: Literally any killer but Krueger I hate DBD Krueger. Survs (esp Nea and Sable...) also the Entity!
Borderlands: Vault Hunters + Co., Bandits, Colonel Hector, Tina (plat/fam only for bdl2 version.), Basically any enemy actually, platonic with any creatures
Poppy: Any monsters lol. In my versions, they're all inhabited by ADULT workers. Toon/Normal versions included.
IDV: Anyone, hunter preference
Overwatch: Junkers (NOT HAMMOND), Sigma, Lifeweaver, Moira, Illari, Luna (Paris Omnic <3), Omnics in general
Slasher Horror: Like literally anyone, just make sure you specify what they're from/which version you'd like
Monster Hunter: I love almost all the monsters (bugs included) so feel free to ask for anything plat/fam with them
D&D: Mimics for sure. Maybe some Baldur's Gate/Dragon Age characters!
I've been obsessed with "How to train your dragon" recently and everything that I hear about the differences between the shows/films and the books makes me think about "Dragon Hunters".
"Dragon Hunters" (or "chasseurs de dragons") is a 2006 French cartoon. The similarities are there only in the shallowest sense possible.
We have the run of the letter guy who is very good at building things that has a pet dragon in a society where people hunt dragons. He can speak to Dragons (although I am not entirely sure if this is something exclusive to him) as well.
But there are also a lot of really fun differences. The main one is that the dragons in the show aren't, in fact, dragons. Already in the first episode and with Hector (the pet dragon) we can see that the creatures that they call dragons don't necessarily have wings. They are also furry and not scaly. Which is really weird and I don't even think they breathe fire. Why are they called Dragons??? 😭
Another difference is that the protagonist -whose name I keep forgetting- is a dragon hunter. But in a weird way where he doesn't seem to be actually good at or care about hunting dragons. He's just there for the money.
One really cool difference is that in "Dragon Hunters" the islands that they live in are floating islands and they exclusively travel through blimps which is really funny because the dragons don't fly... so.
In the first episode that I watched it seems to be that dragons are akin to animals (although Hector can write??? and Dragons have a language??? so they are sapient so I don't really know) in the way that their morality is thought about. Dragons cause a lot of damage and they attack a lot of people (hence why dragon hunters get contracted), but they seem to be regarded less as inherently evil and dangerous and more like they have the potential to be dangerous -because they have sharp teeth.. and are ginormous the majority of times- but they can choose whose side they are on.
For example the first episode has Hector running away from home to go back to the wilderness because one of the human characters call him uncivilized or savage. He takes offense to that because he is the one cleaning their shit and sharpening their weapons (I told you they are sapient and intelligent but they are also pets so I am not entirely sure where they fall). While he's out there he meets another dragon that seems to be the same species as them but is significantly bigger and stronger. He makes an alliance with this dragon where Hector distracts people and the other dragon creates a commotion so that they can steal food from the humans. Meanwhile our human protagonists are looking for him because he is LITERALLY THE ONLY ONE THAT DOES THINGS AROUND HERE. He's also the one that operates the blimp????? I guess he doesn't have wings so he had to do something to move from Island to Island.
At first they think that the giant dragon is Hector who has just eaten a lot. But then they discover that Hector has made the alliance and they tell him that they've been contracted to slay the Dragon that has been causing the destruction in the village. They basically give him an ultimatum. They say that if he is indeed even partially responsible for the destruction in the village they're going to have to kill him. But they tell them that he doesn't have to listen to other dragons and that he can choose whose he's side is on. He can choose to be good and be given food by humans freely. (In exchange to be in their pet and doing all their chores, which in light of the sentience that this creature has leaves a weird taste in my mouth).
Hector, of course, chooses his family.
What I'm trying to get at here, is that I think they have enough similarities where "Dragon Hunters" is very likely to have been inspired by "How to train Your Dragon", but in a way that only takes the surface level general concept and does it understand why that concept works.
And hey if you like "Dragon Hunters" I am not shitting on it. It's a childhood cartoon for me and it will always be in my heart. I'm not saying it's bad and I'm not saying that it's plagiarism, but I think some inspiration probably was there.
All of your WIPs seem cool, so imma ask about 3 (sorry if I get some names wrong)
Of Wings, Blade and Shadow
The Fallen Cyborg
The Watcher and The Thief
:)
(in response to this post/ask game thingy)
*claps hands excitedly* oh boy!
I haven't thought about Of Wings, Blade and Shadow for a while now (aka had to go through the folder to actually remember what it was about), I created the concept doc in 2020 and last touched it in 2022. It's about these three characters in an modern fantasy setting who learn about a cataclysmic event that would destroy the city they live in. The main POV character, Jean, has angel wings and runs a bookshop. The secondary character, Gerik, has a sword that talks in his head (named Justine), and the third character is a morally-gray shadow sorcerer named Nels. I actually had a loose outline worked out, complete with plot and character growth, but I didn't end up writing very much of it before forgetting about it and jumping to what later became The Hunter the Myth and the Cure.
When I started The Fallen Cyborg in January 2021, I had the intention of finishing the first draft by the end of the year. Life happened and I didn't end up getting that far, but looking back I'm impressed I got as much done as I did! It's a sci fi novel about this lab experiment (known as number 49) who has been enhanced with numerous cybernetic implants and training to be a supersoldier. That is, until he discovers that he is considered a "failed" experiment and will be shortly terminated. Naturally, he escapes with the help of a hacker known as Qanan piloting a cleaning bot. It basically involved him attempting to start a new life and being chased by the government. I don't remember why I called it The Fallen Cyborg as a working title, but I still like it. I had a complete plot, a prologue, and 3.5 chapters drafted before I shelved it sometime in August 2021 (according to Google Docs). I intend to revisit it eventually but I am a very different writer than I was in 2021 so it might involve a complete rewrite of those 4.5 chapters.
I'd mentioned this before but The Watcher and the Thief began as a story about how my and my brother's D&D characters met. I played a Beastmaster Ranger and he played a Rogue. I ended up dropping it after 8 chapters for a couple years before picking it up again and reworking the plot to fit into Tales of Valaria (changing the magic system, the Rangers became Watchers, complete role changes, etc). One of the most significant changes is that my character became the villain and multi-classed to wizard. The story's about this Watcher, Hector, whose apprentice, Luc gets cursed by a magician. The only way to lift the curse, naturally, is to seek out another magician. Meanwhile Rift (my brother's character), attempts to steal a priceless gem from the Draigo (which used to be just straight-up dragons. Idk why I changed it. They can still breathe fire tho). And Octavian has a terrible horrible no good very bad two weeks.
OK, off to Ansur! Bringing Wyll into the party instead of Minsc and back we go to Wyrm's Rock.
The quest item is a little vague about where to go in search of our new dragon buddy, but we do have a bit of guidance:
The lighting sparks shouldn't be a problem; Jaheira has Call Lightning which is only third level and allows up to ten lightning charges on one cast. The secret entrance is a bit trickier, but I seem to recall spotting something relating to it down in the prisons while we were breaking Florrick out, so we'll start there.
Amusingly, we're immediately tossed into combat with one (1) prison guard in the basement of the fortress - the one who was asleep during Florrick's prison break. Sadly, she doesn't recover any dignity by trying to stop us now; Karlach immediately OHKOs her.
I definitely seem to remember SOMETHING about the Wyrmway coming up when we wandered into this corner of things before, but I didn't reference it in my previous posts about this area, so I can't remember what if any clue we received at the time. However - there ARE two torches in the shape of dragon heads on the wall, so that seems promising:
Turning them both off and both on doesn't do anything. What if we shoot lightning AT the torches? Jaheira?
OK, so Call Lightning is an AOE, so all this succeeded in doing is shocking Hector quite badly.
We have a single scroll of Lightning Bolt so let's try that. If it works, we'll either have to go get Gale temporarily or go buy more scrolls.
Whoops, Lightning Bolt does chain damage to nearby targets. Hector is having a bad day all of a sudden. Sorry, Hector.
However, the dragon's head is now blue!
Progress.
Witch Bolt scroll instead for the other torch, how about that?
Victory.
------
"Are you all right, Hector?" Wyll asks in an undertone.
"Hm?" Hector asks distractedly. "Why wouldn't I be? I should be asking you that - you're the one that has the destiny to fulfill down here."
"And I mean to do my duty," Wyll says stolidly, folding his arms. "But you -- I think I've seen you fidget more in the last twenty minutes than in all the time I've known you."
Hector looks down, realizing he is indeed fidgeting, his fingers absently twisting in and out of his cloak. Deliberately - with a little more effort than might be expected, he halts the movement, forces himself to both inward and outward stillness.
But... "I'm terrified," he admits. "I've come close to being killed by a dragon on more than one occasion already. They're very..." He rubs the back of his neck sheepishly. "Very big."
Wyll looks at him with sympathy. "Even a monster-hunter turns a blind eye to dragons where they can," he says gravely. "There's no shame in fearing them. But--" He smiles, lifts an arm in his trademark salute. "The Blade of Frontiers shall see you come to no harm."
Hector grins in spite of himself. "Thank you, Wyll," he says softly. "I appreciate it."
I remember Arthur and the Invisibles!! I think I watched the sequel films too but I’m not 100% sure my memory is a little fuzzy. possibly getting bits and pieces mixed up with the ant bully. Elaborate on dragon hunters? I might have seen that one too but Google is. not helping
dragon hunters is... a another weird 2000's french animated film (french, german, and luxembourgish, according to wikipedia (here))
it is about a big kind lad who wants to settle down and farm sheep and knit, and his bestie the scam artist who is selling both of them out as (truly terrible) dragon hunters.
also they have a weird bipedal dog (not... a dog) named hector that pisses explosions. we don't question hector.
it also has some of the coolest worldbuilding (and dragon designs!) i've ever seen, where the world is split apart into a whole bunch of different floating islands. the environments in this movie are gorgeous, and the concepts are truly incredible. weird round floating orbs like planets act as farms, huge ruins of ancient cities float through the sky, constantly crumbling apart. there's huge lilypads, floating in the void. lightning strikes tear through parts of these buildings.
LIKE! look how pretty
also, the music is good - this video shows one of my favorite themes, and also shows the scenery some more (though the video (and basically all online versions you will find) is EXTREMELY low-quality. which sucks.)
youtube
there's also really cool dragons - a big slug-like one that spits acid from pores in it's side, two tiny, fast, bipedal ones that hunt as a pair and can shoot electricity from their tails, a swarm of tiny dragons that can flock together to create the form of a larger, much more dangerous one that is really hard to hurt in any meaningful way, since it can just... disapate and reform.
the plot is basically... the main characters take a job from a lord to go and kill a dragon that is part of a prediction telling the end of the world. so they journey to the end of the world to do this, along with the daughter of this lord who desperately wants too be a knight, and sneaks away with them to do just that.
it's such a cool movie because of the sense that it's... almost medieval in it's design of the characters and tropes (knights and castles) and yet there is also a heavy sense that this world is broken and fractured. this is both a post-apocalypse, and a world that actively dying.
it is, both for better and for worse, one of the more unique movies i remember seeing
