Okay but I’m still trying to find some kind of an Italian term of endearment for “light of my life” or “sunshine” or something because for Lucanis Naimy IS the sun BUT I like this. But also ain’t no way Illario would have called anyone by whatever endearment Lucanis eventually chooses for Naimeryn 😤😤

As much as I love writers using various Spanish and Italian pet names for Rookanis fics, I find it interesting that Lucanis doesn't actually use any in the game especially compared to, like, Emmrich; the contrast being strongest for their words of encouragement ("Wonderful, darling!" versus "Beautiful, Rook!").

I wonder if this is either due to the slow burn nature of the Rookanis romance and that he's just not gotten there yet—

Or if it's just not in his nature in general because of Illario. The first time we get to see an Antivan pet name used around him is The Wigmaker Job and it's Illario saying "caro mio" to a slave that he plans on killing in order to leave no witnesses. I wonder if Lucanis has seen Illario drop just about every pet name and term of endearment into the ears of unsuspecting marks. Knows that Illario does it to hide the fact that he's forgotten this latest fling's name. Lucanis has seen them all and now he finds them all insincere or tainted.

He calls you by your name because to him that's the most sincere form of affection and respect he can think of.

thinking about how gentle lucanis would be when you’re injured. when your shoulder is dislocated and it is his hands that are on your face, cradling you; on your hair, tucking the strands behind your ears; on your forearm as he looks into your eyes and smiles softly while reassuring you that you are going to be okay. that it will be quick. and your shoulder would hurt and you’re already scared, but you would know that lucanis’s hands—an assassin’s hands, would hold you in them as if he had never touched anything sacred before. your eyes would linger on his face because you would not want to look down. when he takes your elbow and tugs, you inhale sharply because he tells you to breathe, and a quick twist would have your shoulder back in the socket. your eyes would burn with tears, your teeth scraping over your bottom lip. and lucanis would wait. he would wait until you were ready to pick your head up again before brushing his thumbs over the tears, smearing them. and damn would your shoulder still hurt, but you know that if you had been in anyone else’s care, you wouldn’t have been able to do it. with lucanis, you can. you always can.
