One of the most important things to know with Nico’s character is he is, in this order:
1.) An extrovert who cares SO MUCH about EVERYTHING, ALL OF THE TIME and thinks so highly of his friends and gets sad and lonely when he’s not around people and doesn’t want anyone else to feel sad and lonely. When he’s not around people he talks to the dead to fill in that gap. He’s surprisingly self-assured but is sensitive to what other people think about him (ex: has no qualms against murder and doesn’t regret it at all but is concerned he scared Reyna and Coach/made them uncomfortable by killing somebody in front of them).
2.) The world’s most awkward nerd. He loves card games and struggles to not infodump about his special interests at inopportune times and wanted to be a greek hero/pirate/possibly an aviator growing up, but also that was like Two Years Ago and he doesn’t wanna talk about it.
3.) Thinks of himself as judge, jury, and executioner on both a metaphorical sense but also he is literally that. Like, that’s literally his job position as Ghost King/son of Hades and he takes it very seriously and he will straight up murder somebody if they are breaking the laws of the Underworld (unless he's giving somebody a pass because they’re his friend/family because see: bullet point 1 <3). And it directly ties into his powers (seemingly being able to judge people’s souls while they’re still alive and then also like. just. rip people’s souls out or turn them into skeletons).
So do with that information what you will.
#pjo#riordanverse#nico di angelo#analysis#admittedly both points 1 and 2 are like. well point 1 is like at least 50% his autism and point 2 is just 100% his autism#draft clean out#him being self-assured but also caring what other people think is the funniest part to me because of the specific way it manifests for him

"I don't know about this."
Merrin tugs on his earlobe. He reaches up and smacks her hand away. "You are the one who suggested it. Do not be a coward now."
Cal shifts a glare in her direction before stepping out of the way of a bustling local. "Suggesting isn't the same as agreeing. If I'd known this is where you were taking me, I would've said no."
"Would you?"
"Listen, I...okay, no, I wouldn't have, but still! Oh, don't give me that look."
Merrin laughs. "I do not know what you're talking about."
Cal rolls his eyes, smiling helplessly. "Let's get this over with."
This goes pretty quickly.
The place is as reputable as it can be for the prices, and Cal already knows what he wants to get. Two simple deep green studs for a standard lobe piercing. Nothing fancy. Nothing wild. The pain is nonexistent. This place is loaded with echoes from excitement and laughter to full-on sobbing from either physical pain or emotional hurts. Cal feels echoes of the worst piercings -- he is never going to get one like that, he thinks a little terrified at some of the places people are willing to stick a needle -- and some not so great tattoos, plus his own experience getting a not so great tattoo, so when the needle goes through his earlobe, it barely registers.
Merrin leans over the piercer's shoulder, humming to herself as she observes Cal with a critical eye. "Would you consider a second one?"
"Technically, I'm already getting two," he points out. One for each ear. Greez is going to lose it when they make it back to the Mantis. Maybe they should go to a bar first, give Greez and Cere a chance to be asleep so they can skip the initial awkwardness. Merrin quirks an eyebrow. "What did you have in mind?"
She touches her own ear, where she already has multiple piercings. Cal follows the motion with his eyes until she lands on the one she wants to show him. He grimaces.
"Maybe next time?" Anything past the lobe might be too much right now. Some of Merrin's piercings are interesting, yeah, but they look good on her. They're unlikely to look good on him.
"I will hold you to that."
"Well, ain't you two adorable," the piercer grunts. Merrin flushes grey and looks away. Cal's face turns as red as his hair. "If you ain't gettin another, get outta my chair. Pay up front."

Interstellar Overdrive
This is the Hyde truth serum one. This is a space AU and all the sci-fi elements are mostly explained in the writing. The timeline of the show is the same, but they live in space. This takes place in the very beginning of season 5, with some minor changes.
TBH I don't think I had a plan for this fic beyond the truth serum scene. I don't know where this was gonna go after that. But the build up is fun! This is chapters one and two, which is all I had written.
Word count: 2,825
Pairings: Hyde/Jackie, Eric/Donna
1 - Boyfriend
1979Deep SpaceThe Formans’ House
Hyde forced himself not to smile when Jackie giggled, her nails dragging lightly over his scalp. He continued pressing soft kisses to her neck. They were fooling around on the couch in the basement, like they had been all summer. Hyde was enjoying it. He wasn’t ready for it to end when Kelso got back from whatever planet he and Donna were on.
“Steven, that tickles,” she said breathily, squirming underneath him.
He couldn’t help it. He smiled and gently bit her, then moved up a little to kiss her fully.
One of her hands left his hair and trailed down his abdomen. Her fingers hooked in the waistband of his pants, slowly dragging over his skin. His breath hitched.
Her fingers were poised over his belt buckle when they heard the creaking of the stairs down to the basement. They quickly separated and tried to look normal. Hyde grabbed a Universe magazine from the table.
Forman sat down in Hyde’s usual chair, looking put out. Fez sat in the lawn chair. “This summer sucked,” Forman said.
“Of course it sucked, you didn’t do anything,” Hyde pointed out. “My summer was great.”
Forman frowned. “You haven’t done anything either!”
“Yes, he has,” Fez said. “Every time I want to hang out with him he is with a girl somewhere. I am sick of it.”
“What girl?” Forman asked.
“Yeah, Steven, what girl?” Jackie asked.
“None of you know her,” Hyde said.
“Boring.” Forman tapped his foot. “I wish I had someone to fool around with.”
“Call Donna,” Jackie said. “You know she’s probably up for it.”
Hyde nodded. “Unless she met a perfect robot guy on Calaria.”
“She doesn’t date cyborgs, the robot part makes her uncomfortable,” Forman said. “But she could have found a human guy to replace me.”
“She’s not going to replace you. She loves you. Now, go send her a transmission or something,” Jackie said.
“Oh, I’ll help you, I love picking out the little pictures to send in the messages,” Fez said.
“You really think she still loves me?” Forman asked.
“I know she does. She won’t shut up about it during our calls.” Jackie flipped her hair over her shoulder.
Forman smiled. “I’m gonna go send her a transmission. Let’s go, Fez.”
The two of them got up and rushed up the stairs. Once the door was closed, Hyde turned to Jackie. “That was close.”
“Yeah, it was.” Jackie bit her lip. “I’m… I’m kind of sick of hiding this thing between us. It’s annoying having to check to make sure no one’s around and everything.”
“So… what, you want to break it off?” Hyde really didn’t want to break it off. He actually wanted to be her boyfriend. He’d been falling in love with her ever since their very first date on Galactic Veteran’s Day.
“No!” Jackie said, too quickly. “No. I like being with you. I, um… I know you don’t do girlfriends, though.”
“Well… I think I could make an exception. For you.”
She grinned. “Are you serious?”
“Yeah. I like you.”
“I like you too!” She quickly closed the distance between them and kissed him. “And I’d really like to be your girlfriend.”
“Really? What about Kelso?”
“What about him? We’re done forever. I don’t love him, and I haven’t loved him for a long time. He can just deal with it when he finds out. I’m allowed to move on, it just happens to be with one of his closest friends.”
“So, you wanna tell everyone?”
“If you’re okay with that.”
“Yeah. Then we won’t have to sneak around.” He smiled a little. “All right. We can tell the losers about it later. Right now… Can we continue what we were doing before they interrupted?”
Jackie nodded. “Let’s go to your room. Boyfriend.”
He chuckled. “Come on, weirdo.”
Jackie giggled as they went back to his room. He had a good feeling about having a relationship with her, strangely.
~
Eric and Fez were walking down to the basement. They’d sent a transmission to Donna yesterday, but they’d gotten no response. Eric had told his mom to let him know if they got a message back.
“I hope she’s okay. She's probably just out, right?” Eric asked.
“I’ve told you three times already, yes!”
Eric shook his head and went down the stairs to the basement. He stopped short. Jackie and Hyde were on the couch, making out. Their legs were tangled together. “What the hell?”
They parted the kiss but stayed tangled together. “What?” Hyde asked, turning to look at him.
“You’re making out with the devil, that’s what!”
“It was hot,” Fez said.
Hyde and Jackie grimaced and separated from each other, sitting on the couch normally. Eric sat in Hyde’s usual chair and Fez sat in the lawn chair. “Are you two together?” Eric asked.
Hyde draped his arm around Jackie’s shoulders. “Yep.”
“For how long?”
“Since yesterday,” Jackie said. “But we’ve been fooling around for almost three months.”
“Three months? And you’ve kept it hidden?” Eric wasn’t all that surprised that he hadn’t known. He hadn’t been around very often. But it was still shocking.
“Yeah,” Hyde said. “Jackie’s the chick I’ve been fooling around with all summer. Then we got sick of hiding it.”
“No, we decided that we like each other a lot and we wanted to be together officially,” Jackie said. Hyde nodded.
Eric furrowed his brow. “Hyde, you actually like her? Romantically?”
“Yeah, get over it.”
He shook his head. “No, I refuse to believe that until I see it.”
His mom came down the stairs, bending down to look at them from the top of the stairs. "Donna sent a transmission back! And stop picking on Steven for having a girlfriend."
"You knew about Jackie and Hyde? Wait, wait, Donna." Eric ran up the stairs, the others close behind.
The five of them crowded around the transmitter. Eric pressed the button, and the message came up on screen.
DONNA: Eric, we were kidnapped. We were taken by some mysterious ship. It's just me and Kelso. You need to save us before I murder him.
"Oh my God!" Jackie exclaimed. "Kidnapped? We have to go!"
"Where would we go? We don't know who took them," Hyde pointed out.
Jackie gave him a look. "We still have to go and find them!"
"Wait, Eric, does Donna still have the location ring you gave her?" Fez asked. "The ring could send location signals so you could find each other."
"I doubt it. But it's worth a shot." Eric ran upstairs and got his own ring, which was paired to the one he'd given Donna. Jackie and Kelso had similar ones, but Jackie had thrown hers into a black hole. He went back downstairs and pressed the center of the ring down, sending a location signal.
Jackie grabbed Hyde's hand tightly as they waited for the signal. After a few minutes, they got one back. A small hologram appeared out of the ring. "The Kenosha Belt! That's not too far from Planet Place, we can get there quickly," Eric said.
"There's an asteroid field between here and there," his mom said. She frowned. "Oh, just be careful. I'll tell Bob. You four go. Wait, I'll make you some sandwiches to take with you. Oh, and a first-aid kit."
"Mom," Eric whined.
She put her hands on her hips. "You still need to be safe. I will be quick." She rushed into the kitchen.
"I can't believe they got captured," Eric said. "Who would even do this?"
"I don't know, man," Hyde said. "But we'll kick his ass." He clapped Eric's shoulder. "It's gonna be fine."
"Aw, Steven, you're so motivational!" Jackie crooned, hugging his arm.
Hyde frowned. "No, I'm not. Shut up." Jackie just grinned and kissed his cheek.
"See, what kind of boyfriend tells his girlfriend to shut up?" Eric asked.
"The kind who's only been a boyfriend for one day, give me a break." Hyde left the room, following Eric's mom to the kitchen.
"Guys! Our friends are kidnapped!" Fez said. "This is not the time to be fighting about relationships."
"You're right," Eric said. "I'll get the ship ready."
~
Donna groaned internally. She was stuck in a small, gray room with Kelso. All she had were her clothes and the things in her pockets. She was incredibly glad she'd been missing Eric that morning and had decided to keep the ring he'd given her in her pocket.
"They're gonna come save us, and Jackie will be so glad I'm not dead that she'll take me back right away! We'll do it the second we're alone," Kelso said.
"Or they'll come save us and Jackie won't take you back because you're a dirty bastard."
"Shut up!" the guard snapped at them from the small window in the door.
Donna rubbed her forehead. "I hope Eric gets here soon."
"Me too. Just so I can prove to you that Jackie still wants me."
She groaned again, burying her head in her hands.
~
Hyde sat with Jackie in the back row of the Vista Spaceship. Her fingers were drumming on his thigh. He wasn't sure if it was a nervous habit or if she was being a tease.
"Asteroid coming up," Hyde said, pointing to a small space rock out the windshield.
Forman turned to avoid it. "You don't have to point out every asteroid, Hyde, I can see them."
"Just making sure, man." He leaned forward a little. Jackie started to move her hand from his thigh, but he grabbed it with his own hand. He glanced at her to make sure it was okay before he laced his fingers through hers. He leaned forward again, towards the front row. "What's the plan once we get there?"
Forman shrugged. "I don't know. Find Donna and Kelso?"
"We will have to get on the ship that captured them first," Fez said. "We will infiltrate the ship, then begin our search. Once we find them, we take out the bad guys and get back to the Vista Spaceship, which we will take home. And then we will all laugh at Kelso because Hyde stole his girlfriend."
"Great plan," Hyde said.
"It's good enough," Forman said.
"Eric, asteroid," Jackie said, pointing to another rock floating towards them. Forman turned around it.
"You two are made for each other," Forman muttered.
~
"Oh, that looks like a ship that would take Donna and Kelso," Fez said.
Up ahead was a foreboding flat ship, floating leisurely among the debris from the nearby asteroid field. Eric nodded. "I'll find a place to land, I guess."
He found a clear expanse of space on the outside of the ship and landed the Vista Spaceship. Eric handed out masks to everyone so they could breathe until they got inside. They got out and started searching for the entrance.
Jackie put her hands on her hips as she walked across the top of the ship. "So, what are we even looking for? Some kind of door or-" She screamed as she got sucked into the ship.
Hyde and Fez rushed over. "Jackie!" Hyde called out. "Are you okay?"
"I found the entrance!" she called back.
Hyde went in after her. Fez and Eric followed. They landed in a barren hallway. It split off in two directions.
Hyde helped Jackie up from the ground. “You good?” he asked.
“Yeah, I’m fine. The ground’s not as hard as it looks.” She smiled. “It’s sweet that you were worried about me.”
He gave her a look and changed the subject. “There’s two hallways, what do we want to do?”
“Uh… Split up and look for clues?” Eric suggested.
Hyde smirked. “Sure thing, Scooby. Jackie and I will take the left hallway. Send a signal or scream really loud if something happens.”
He and Jackie went down the left hallway. Eric turned to Fez. “Let’s go, I guess.”
They started down the right hallway. It seemed like no one was around.
At the end of the hallway, the paths converged. Eric looked around the corner to see if Jackie and Hyde were on their way. They were walking hand in hand down the hall, slowly. Jackie tugged on Hyde’s hand and he turned to her, his back to Eric.
Eric’s shout was muffled by the piece of cloth placed over his mouth as someone grabbed him from behind. The person dragged him away, and he felt his consciousness slipping as he breathed in through the fabric.
2 - Truth Serum
Jackie pulled Hyde to face her. “What’s the plan when we find them?”
“You sound very confident in us.”
“Of course. We’re great, of course we’re gonna find them. What are we gonna do when that happens?”
“I’ll kick ass and you help Donna and Kelso?”
Jackie smiled. She opened her mouth to say something, then a door opened behind her. Donna’s voice came from inside. “Help! Someone help!”
“Oh my God!” Jackie turned and rushed into the room. Hyde followed her.
As soon as they entered the room, the door shut behind them. Someone grabbed Hyde from behind and pushed him into a chair. Restraints came from the back of the chair and wrapped around his arms and torso. He struggled against them, trying to see who had captured him.
Someone in a dark cloak forced Jackie into a similar chair across from him. She kicked at the person, but none of her kicks landed.
Once the two of them were restrained, two cloaked figures stood between them. “Who the hell are you people? And where's Donna?” Hyde asked.
They removed their cloaks, and Jackie groaned. “Casey? Why the hell are you here?” She looked at the other guy. “And I don’t even know you.”
“I am Tomas. I was an exchange student. Hyde and Fez left me on the rings of Michigan. I am getting revenge.”
Hyde chuckled. “That was funny.”
“Not to me,” Tomas said.
Hyde looked at Casey. “What about you? Why are you here?”
Casey shrugged. “I got nothing else to do, and Jackie’s not seeing my brother anymore so I figured I could get in on that.”
Hyde narrowed his eyes at Casey. “Yeah, about that, she’s my girlfriend, dillhole.”
Casey raised his eyebrows and smiled. “So, Jackie Burkhart is slumming it with Steven Hyde.” He looked at Jackie. “You could do better.”
Jackie glared at Casey. “What do you freaks want, anyway?”
“Tom, bring it out,” Casey said with a sinister smile.
Tomas brought out a sleek black box. He set it on a table between Jackie and Hyde. Casey opened it up to reveal a syringe and vial of bright green liquid. “Truth serum,” Casey said.
“And what are you gonna use that for?” Hyde asked.
“We’re gonna have some fun, Hyde.” Casey waved his hand at Tomas, who took out the syringe and filled it with the serum. Casey turned Hyde’s arms so that his veins showed, then Tomas injected the serum into his blood.
~
They all waited a second for something to happen. “See, you morons can’t even get truth serum right,” Steven said. “Nothing even-” He cut himself off and blinked a few times. “My head feels weird.”
"Steven, are you okay?" Jackie asked.
"I'm, um… I feel fine." He giggled. Jackie had never heard such a sound come out of his mouth. "I feel great."
Casey furrowed his brow. "Tom, man, how much did you give him?"
"Double dose. I wanted to make sure it worked," Tomas said.
"You moron, that's too much!" Casey groaned. "Whatever. This'll still be fun. When'd you start dating Jackie?"
"Yesterday, but I've liked her a lot longer than that. And we've been fooling around for months." Steven closed his eyes and smiled. His words started slurring. "You know, she tastes great."
Jackie felt heat rush to her cheeks. "Steven!"
He opened his eyes and looked at her. "What? It's true."
Casey smirked. "And how long have you liked Jackie?"
Steven giggled again. "Since we went out on Galactic Veteran's Day. That's when I started falling for her."
"Aww," Jackie crooned. "That's so sweet!"
Steven smiled at her. "Jackie, you wanna know something? I'm in love with you."
Jackie's smile dropped, even as a thrill went through her body. "What?"
"I love you. You're the first girl I've ever loved."
Casey laughed. "This is better than what I expected."
"Steven, I am going to kill you if this isn't true," Jackie said.
"Of course it is true, he's on truth serum," Tomas said.
Steven giggled again. "This is fun, man. Jackie, isn't this great?"
"No! Ugh, this is so not how I wanted your first love confession to go."
Steven smiled, an infuriatingly cute smile. “You’re so cute when you’re mad. Like an angry kitten.”
Jackie glared at him. “How long does this last?”
Casey grinned. “We’ll find out.”

He sees it. Out of the corner of his eye.
He throws out a hand, stopping Merrin in her tracks. "What are - ?" Cal hisses "shhh!" and that would normally get him some retaliation, an elbow to the side or a harmless but startling zap of magick, but she must hear the fear in his voice. This, this weird choking feeling lodged in his throat. His heart is too fast, too karking loud. He can hear Merrin breathing. Can hear her shift her weight. Every one of BD's soft servos, usually quiet and comforting, is loud, loud, loud.
It's going to find them.
It's already found them.
Nothing happens.
Merrin is kind enough to wait a couple more seconds before she sighs and grabs the arm he still has in front of her. Her grip is solid. Anchoring. "There is nothing," she says softly. "You need sleep."
"I felt something," he insists. He won't deny the sleep part. His eyes are itchy. "It was there." Like a fizzle of static in the dark.

Pieces of a Harmony
part one of my draft clean out is chapter one of a fic I abandoned called Pieces of a Harmony! don't know why I called it that!
The original idea for this was to be a band AU. If anyone remembers when I was toying around with a fic called Add It Up, this is my restarted draft of that. But I don't where I was going with it and I have no idea what I'm doing with all the stuff I wrote for Add It Up. If you want to learn more about that fic, look at my tag for it.
In this story, Donna is marrying my OC Jack O'Connor (WTOE). Eric went to NYU and met the people he will later start a band with, and the character Jenna you will meet here is his intended love interest since Donna is married. Hyde and Jackie reunite at the wedding.
Word Count: 3,064
Pairings: Hyde/Jackie, Donna/Jack, Eric/Jenna
1985
Hyde raised his hand to knock on the front door when Donna poked her head out the window right next to it. “Don’t knock!” she shouted. “I just painted the door.”
He lowered his hand. “Okay. Can you let me in?”
“Yeah, one second.” Donna went back in the window and a moment later, the door opened. Hyde went in.
“How’s it going? Where’s Jack?”
“Jack is figuring out what’s wrong with the bathroom sink. If you want to help him, follow the sound of angry Gaelic muttering.” Donna gestured vaguely up the stairs.
Hyde nodded and went up, Donna behind him. “Everything else good? You like the house?”
“Yeah, I do. I’m glad we’re moving in before the wedding. I would have been stressed the whole honeymoon if we still didn’t have a house.”
“I’m glad you moved too, I was getting sick of having you in my apartment,” Hyde teased. He walked into the bathroom, where Jack was hunched by the sink, cursing at a pipe.
Donna touched his shoulder lightly. “What did I tell you about straining your leg?”
He looked up at her. “That I shouldn’t do it?”
“Mhm. Now stand up, Hyde’s gonna fix the sink.”
Jack used the sink as leverage to stand up. Hyde took his place under the sink. "You got a wrench?" Donna handed him the wrench, and he sealed a loose pipe. "Try that."
Jack turned on the sink, and the water came out. "Damn. I should just stop trying to fix things around the house, it never works out."
"How's this: I'll fix stuff, and you can cook," Donna suggested with a smile.
"I was gonna cook anyway," Jack said. "But that sounds wonderful, a chroí."
"No one makes me feel more single than you two," Hyde said. "Anyway, I came to help you move in. And to tell you that Forman finally called me back and said he's coming to the wedding, with a plus one."
Donna smiled. "Does he have a girlfriend? Boyfriend?"
"No. He's bringing this girl from NYU who he's just friends with. He was very adamant about that on the phone."
Donna laughed. "Same old Eric." She looked at Jack. "Did Emmeline ever call you back?"
"Yeah. She said she can't make it. Her sister's pregnant and due around the time of the wedding, so she'll be in Truro with her sister."
"I love it when you say Truro. Your accent just…" Donna shook her head, clearing the thought. She looked at Hyde. "Are you all packed?"
"Yup. Finished this morning. I'm excited, I've never been out of the country."
Donna and Jack were getting married in Ireland. Jack's whole family- minus his sister- lived there, so it was easier to get the whole O'Connor part of the wedding attendees there. Donna only wanted to invite her immediate family and friends, so she was fine with that. It would also be easier for them to get to their honeymoon destination in Italy.
"Jackie's excited?" Hyde asked.
"Out of her mind," Donna said. "She said she's been calling Jack's sister non-stop to figure out my bachelorette party. She wants it to be better than the last one."
Hyde chuckled. "Of course."
"You sure it won't be awkward?" Donna asked, not for the first time.
Hyde gave her a look. "Jack's inviting your ex to his bachelor party. I can handle seeing Jackie for a few days."
Donna turned on Jack. "I told you that you didn't have to invite him."
"I wanted to," Jack said. "He's cool. Besides, he and Hyde are still friends. It'll be fine." He pressed a kiss to the side of Donna's face. "It's going to be great, and we're going to be married soon, and then we'll be enjoying kickass food in Italy."
Donna smiled a little. "You always know what to say, Sunshine." Jack blushed a little.
"Aww," Hyde crooned. "You have anything else you need me to fix?"
They both looked back at Hyde. Jack nodded. "The water heater needs to be set up."
"I'm on it."
~
Hyde stood in the foyer of the O'Connor house, helping Donna greet people. Jack was catching up with his family. They'd offered to have everyone over for dinner the night before the wedding.
The door opened, and Forman walked in. "Oh, thank God, I have the right house," he said. "Hi, guys!"
Donna gaped at him. "What happened to your hair? I haven't seen you in five years."
Forman's hair was much longer, falling to his chest. He'd started growing it out a few years ago. He opened his mouth to answer, but a woman pushed him aside so she could enter the house. "You're blocking the door, Forman."
She had tan skin and short, wavy hair. She had a lot of piercings in her ears and she was wearing an oversized button-down over her Van Halen shirt. "Sorry," Forman said. He looked at Donna and Hyde. "This is Jenna Somers, a friend from college."
She nodded. "What's up?"
The door opened again, and Jackie walked in. Hyde hadn't seen her in five years. Her hair was longer, but she looked mostly the same. She went straight to Donna, wrapping her in a tight hug. "Donna! This is so exciting! You're finally getting married to a good guy!"
"Rude," Forman said. "I'm a great guy. Just not right for Donna."
Jenna shrugged. "You're a pretty okay guy."
He frowned at her. "I should've brought Reese as my plus one. Reese would've been supportive of me."
Jackie separated herself from Donna. "Where's Jack?"
"Where do you think? He's in the kitchen."
"I gotta go talk to him. We haven't seen each other in forever." Jackie flounced off to the kitchen.
"They're friends?" Hyde asked.
"Yeah. Jackie visited me a bunch when I was living in Yarmouth with him, they got along really well. He helped her after her last breakup."
"She's dated other people?" Hyde asked, somewhat surprised. He knew it was outrageous to assume that she hadn't seen anyone else, but he hadn't heard anything about it.
"I'm so confused, man," Jenna said.
"It's soooo much to explain," Forman said. "Let's go find somewhere to sit so I can try and catch you up." The two of them left the room.
The door opened again, and Midge came in with a man Hyde had never met. "Oh, hi, Donna! Hello, Steven. This is my boyfriend, Jon. I met him in California."
"Nice to meet you," Jon said. He had wavy brown hair and a thick mustache. "Donna, is your dad coming?"
"Yeah. He's, um… Not seeing anyone right now. So try not to rub it in his face, please, mom."
"Why would I do that? I don't want to rub anything in his face, he's all oily." Midge smiled. "Where's Jack's mother? I wanted to talk to her, y'know, mother to mother."
"I don't know how well that's gonna go. She doesn't speak a lot of English. You're better off talking to Jack's dad."
"But I don't want to talk to his dad, I want to talk to his mom!"
"Why don't you go ahead, love, I'll be right there," Jon said, lightly pushing Midge towards the hallway. She walked off, leaving Jon alone with them. "I've learned to just let her do what she says she's gonna do. She figures it out eventually."
"How do you manage to do it?" Hyde asked. Donna gave him a look. "It's a valid question, Donna, the woman can't follow a conversation for even a minute."
"Patience. I just let her talk and support her ideas. And I love her a damn lot, which is really necessary at times." Jon focused on Donna. "So, what languages does your soon-to-be mother in law speak?"
"Irish, Scots Gaelic, and Italian. Her father is Italian and her mother is Scottish, then they moved to Ireland when she was young, so she speaks a lot of languages."
"I know a little bit of Italian, so we'll see how it goes," Jon smiled brightly, clapped Hyde on the shoulder, did the same to Donna, then walked down the hall.
"He's definitely… a step dad kind of guy," Hyde said.
"Shut up," Donna said, laughing. "We should probably make sure there are no major inter-family issues before the wedding." She walked after Jon, and Hyde followed her.
~
"You're getting married! This is so exciting!" Jackie hugged Donna tightly from behind. Donna smiled. "And your marriage is gonna go so much better than mine, I can feel it."
"No offense, but it would be really hard for my marriage to go worse than yours."
"Oh, so Jack's not planning on running away to the Bahamas?"
"I don't think so, no."
"Then I can almost guarantee you won't get divorced." Jackie laughed. "I really am happy for you, though. Jack's a great guy, I can tell he really loves you."
"Yeah. Y'know, I'm not even nervous," Donna said.
"That's good."
Meanwhile…
Hyde and Cal were patting Jack's back as he nearly hyperventilated in the back of the church. "Man, what's wrong with you?" Cal asked.
"Why is she marrying me? All I have to offer is disabilities. I get a beautiful, intelligent, wonderful woman and she gets a guy with one leg and PTSD. This hardly seems fair," Jack said.
"Well, we should call the wedding off, then," Hyde said. "I mean, why would Donna almost marry you with that reasoning? And to think she really loves you."
Cal took a less subtle route. "You're being a fucking dumbass. She loves you, PTSD and all. She wouldn't have said yes to the engagement if she didn't. And you're not less than any other guy 'cause of your disabilities, fuckwit."
"Exactly," Hyde said. "My ex-wife was legally blind. She could still see, but… y'know, she wasn't allowed to drive."
Jack chuckled. "Ah, so that's how you managed to get married."
Hyde smiled. "See, you can do this. You love Donna, Donna loves you. Soon, you're gonna be married and you won't even be thinking about these worries you have now."
Jack nodded. "Okay. Okay. I can do this."
"That's the spirit!" Cal clapped him on the back. "And Hyde, save a dance for me after the wedding."
"Of course. I'm gonna go find my seat."
~
Eric sat next to Jenna in one of the church's pews. Jenna was wearing a black dress, and she looked beautiful. Eric wasn't about to say that to her, though.
"Is it weird, being at your ex's wedding?" Jenna asked.
Eric shrugged. "Not really. I'm happy for her. I'm glad I didn't marry her."
"Me too," Jenna said.
He snapped his head in her direction, about to ask what she meant by that, when the wedding procession music started. They all stood and turned to see Jackie walk down the aisle and stand on the opposite side of Jack and his sister Cal. Then Donna came down, wearing her mom's old wedding dress. She looked radiant, and she looked happy.
Jack smiled brightly when she came up to meet him. Everyone took their seats again, and the ceremony began.
Before Eric knew it, they were at the vows.
"Jack… You brighten my life. You always know how to make me smile, and you know what to say when I feel down. You're my closest friend. You know me better than anyone else. I love every part of you, even the parts you don't love about yourself. I vow to love you for as long as we live."
Jack was blushing deeply. "Donna, a chroí… I never believed I could fall in love again. Then you came and you showed me how wrong I was. I've never been happier about being wrong. You are an amazing person, inside and out. I love you no matter what. I love everything about you. I vow to love you for as long as we live."
"You may seal these vows with a kiss," the priest said.
They kissed, and the wedding attendees applauded.
~
Hyde sat next to Jackie at one of the tables in the reception hall. Donna had placed them next to each other at her family and friends table. She and Jack were dancing together. Forman was talking to Jenna. Jon was leading Midge in a playful sort of partner dance. Bob was leaning over to talk to Jack’s dad.
Hyde turned to Jackie. “So, how have you been? It’s, uh… It’s been a while since we’ve seen each other.”
“Oh, you know, divorced,” she said with an embarrassed smile.
“Me too.”
Her jaw dropped. “Really? Steven Hyde got married?”
He rolled his eyes, but he smiled. “Yeah, yeah. We thought it was a good idea, then we ended it after a year. Her name was Ellis.”
Jackie nodded. “Same. I really thought Liam loved me, then on our one year anniversary he ran away to the Bahamas. When he got back, we got divorced.”
“He sounds like an ass. And he’s stupid for ditching you.”
Jackie gave him a look.
He gave her a look back. “Hey, you ditched me, remember? You left without letting me answer.”
“I didn’t leave, though. And you had a second chance to answer when I came back.”
“But I blew it, and now we’re here, so let’s forget it.”
“Fine.” She stared at the dance floor, where couples were paired up. She turned to him and held out her hand. "Wanna dance?"
He smiled. "Sure."
He took her hand and they went out to the dance floor. He placed one hand on her hip, and she put her other hand on his shoulder. "I like your suit. You never had anything this nice when we were together."
"Ellis was a fashion designer," Hyde explained. Despite being unable to tell velvet apart from polyester without her glasses on, she had loved designing. She'd designed many nicer clothes for him since he had so few. "What did Liam do?"
"He was a writer. He was working on a book about vampires when we were together."
Hyde laughed a little. "Vampires, huh?"
She laughed too. "Yep. It was terrible. He'd read chapters to me once he finished them, and God, his writing was awful."
"Well, good thing you're not Mrs. Vampire Book Guy anymore."
"Yeah." She pulled him a little closer. "I just realized I missed you."
"Just now?"
"Well, I wasn't thinking about it before. I guess I kind of forgot how much I like being around you. Just in general."
Hyde stared at her for a moment. "Yeah, I know what you mean. I missed you too."
The song changed from Something by the Beatles to You Make Me Real by the Doors. Jackie gasped and squeezed his hand. "It's our song!"
"It is." Hyde lifted his arm and spun her, then brought her close to him when she came back. He had always liked dancing with her. Way more than he'd liked dancing with Ellis. She smiled through the whole song.
~
Jackie got her coat and her keys, ready to leave. Steven jogged over to her. "Can I walk you to your car?"
"Sure," she said.
They left the reception hall and went out to the beat-down gravel parking lot. Jackie led him over to the car she'd rented for the trip. She was spending a few extra days in Ireland after the wedding, for her own enjoyment. She'd always wanted to see Ireland, and this was her chance.
"I, uh… I had fun dancing with you today. Thanks for not making things weird between us," he said.
"I had fun too." She twisted her fingers together. "And why should things be weird? We dated years ago. We're both over it. We can be friends."
"Exactly."
They stared at each other for a moment, then they both leaned in and kissed. They parted after a second. Then Jackie wound her arms around his neck and pulled him in for a deeper kiss. His hands found her waist. They kissed as if it was the only thing in the world that mattered.
He parted the kiss just enough to say, "Donna gave me a ride here, could I go back to the hotel with you?"
She smiled. "Is that why you asked to walk me to my car?"
"Maybe."
She kissed him again. "Well, it's good you need a ride, 'cause I was gonna ask you to come back to the hotel with me anyway."
His eyebrows rose. "Were you now?"
"Yeah. If you want to."
"Oh, I want to." As soon as he finished speaking, his lips were on hers again and Jackie couldn't think of anything else.
~
Jackie cuddled against Steven in the bed of her motel room. She trailed her fingers over his stomach, tracing small patterns into his skin. "Overall… This was a pretty good wedding," she said.
"Yeah. I'm happy for Donna and Jack. They work well together. I can see them staying together forever, like the Formans."
"Me too. Although I don't seem to have a very good judgment of that sort of thing."
His fingers began combing lightly through her hair. "What do you mean?"
"Well, I thought we would stay together forever. Then I ran away. And I thought Liam and I would stay together forever, then he ran away. So I don't think I should judge Donna and Jack's potential to stay together."
"Ah." He watched her fingers tracing hearts over his skin. "Y'know… I think it's a lot easier to tell when you're not a part of the relationship. A part of me always felt like Donna and Forman weren't meant to be. But when we were together… That was the first time I was able to see myself with someone for a long time. And look where we all are now."
She looked up at him. "You could see yourself with me for a long time?"
He nodded. "I also saw myself being with Ellis for a long time, so don't go thinking you're special or anything."
She giggled. "I wouldn't dream of it."
She kissed him softly. Even if it was only for a night, Jackie was happy to be with Steven again. It was comforting, like coming home after a long trip. Jackie decided not to think about what that really meant too much.

the reason i shared my great-grandmother's story on here a few months ago is not for sympathy or anything, its to illustrate to you just how deeply, deeply anti-Palestinian the idea of zionism is.
i remember my grandmother, the one who watched her mother die in her home, she called us with a plain tone of voice, and she said "she asked to be buried in [her village] but of course the the zionists wouldn't let that happen." the thing that will not leave my head was the way my grandmother said it, the way it just seemed so natural and so obvious to her. my grandmother is *not* a quiet woman, she yells everything she ever says, whether happy or sad but this she said softly. like she was resigned to this, she expected this.
this woman was exiled once from her village, then again from Palestine, then again and again and again and eventually forced to live in poverty in a refugee camp, she knows the 'israeli' state more intimately than anyone i know, she knows what it will and won't allow in its genocidal apparatus and to her it was obvious that they would not respect her mother's body or last wishes. she knew that.
and i always go back to it when i see discussions on here or on twitter or in academia, like you guys (the moderates, the apologists) have never ever spoken to a nakba survivor or a naksa survivor. you don't know just how deeply its affected our families.
so when we ask you to completely reject zionism, when we demand it from allies, we aren't saying this to be stubborn or nonsensical, we're saying it because we know where zionism will lead us. we've been through the "we just want peace" and the "we need to just talk it out" phases already, how can you not think we've been through those phases after 75 years. we've had our meet and greets and our appeals and now we're at literally the worst stage of genocide against our people and you're still insisting on "talking it out" or some variation of it.
the truth of the matter is that we don't have patience for zionism anymore because look where it got us. look where we're at. even soft zionists, you need to stamp those people out from pretending they've got good points, or that you need to build community with them or whatever. we are literally at the worst part of Palestinian history ever, we need to stop pretending there are grey zones to this. Zionist apologists and the like are creating ambiguity that literally gets our families killed under the guise of "complication". I'm sick and tired of watching these same discussions over and over again about how "Israel is a result of antisemitism" when it very much is not. I'm sick of seeing people who know NOTHING about colonization push their own agendas and provide cover for zionists to do whatever they want. Just stop talking about things you don't understand because I promise you, you're directly contributing to the violence you claim to abhor.
