the main difference btwn g1 & g3 draculaura is that g3 drac would watch barbie & oppenheimer and be a lil on the fence abt which to see first. while g1 drac would buy herself & all the ghouls brand new pink outfits despite her entire closet already being pink, count down every day until release out loud to the point it annoys all her classmates. and she would NOT know who oppenheimer is

🎀 [BACKSTORY ! ]

My bio parents were a werewolf named Aaron Lycan and a vampire named Carmilla Valira. My mom was good friends with Dracula, so when I was little I’d often have sleepovers at their manor, and hang out with Draculaurs. We were attached at the hip, and got into all kinds of trouble together, we saw each other so much we were practically sisters. When I was 567 (bare with me vampire aging is weird) my parents unfortunately were killed by monster hunters, and per their will, I was taken in by Dracula. While I was devastated that my parents weren’t coming back, being able to live with Draculaura lifted my spirits ever so slightly. I started going to school with Draculaura, before Monster High opened, and since I have the outwardly appearance of a werewolf I got a lot of crap from other students. Though Draculaura was always there to help me feel better, and thankfully after a few years, Monster High opened up, a school for all monsters. It was like a dream come true, I got to stay with my best friend, and meet other monsters in the process.

Dorms Im ngl I don’t know if G1 monster high has dorms, but I want it to be a boarding school cs this is my dr and I say so. Students are 4 to a dorm, with 4 beds, 2 mini fridges, 4 closets, 2 bathrooms, and 4 desks. You can decorate your dorm however you want, since it’s yours until you graduate. There are 2 different dorm buildings, 1 for the girls and 1 for the boys, each building is separated alphabetically. All students must be in a dorm by 11PM, and failure to do so will result in a 3 day detention (normally served by cleaning) Girls and boys are allowed in each others dorms, but not later than 8pm and you need permission from the headmistress and all room occupants. Same sex sleepovers are allowed but must be approved by the headmistress, and if you don’t get permission, and are caught it’s a 5 day detention.

Monster High girlies (and enbies!!) Part one of ??

Design notes under the cut:

For Draculaura I couldn’t really think of any way to improve on her design (can’t improve upon perfection!) so it was less of a redesign and more of a possible alternate look

I looked at a lot of different goth and sweet Lolita dresses for inspo and ended up landing somewhere in between

I shortened her pigtails and tried to make them imitate the shapes of bat wings

Her umbrella I pretty much kept as is

I ended up mostly borrowing from her gen 1 design, but referenced gen 3 here and there as well

Her figure is obviously more petite, I also wanted to make her a bit chubbier but it isn’t really that noticeable. If I go back and do revisions I’ll have to fix that

This Draculaura is a trans girl and is either straight or bi, I couldn’t decide so let’s say she’s questioning! I haven’t seen the new series but from what I hear she’s half Thai so I’ll keep that

For Frankie I wanted to take the more modern design of gen 3 and add a bit of the edgy, Avril Lavigne-esque pop punk feel from gen 1

I kept gen 3 Frankie’s side shave but changed the shape of their hair to be a bit more dynamic

I also kept gen 3’s metal leg because I like it :)

I brought in some more of the red accents that gen 1 Frankie has, plus the yellow accents from gen 2 (which ended up being the only thing I borrowed from gen 2 LOL)

Asymmetry and mismatching lengths were key!!

My Frankie is pan, non-binary, and femme-leaning in their presentation but uses strictly they/them pronouns. Also they’re Jewish because I’m Jewish and I say so

Clawdeen’ s outfit I ended up struggling with the most. I wanted her to be fashionable in the way gen 1 is, but in a slightly more modern alternative kind of way

I wanted to give her a bit of an art hoe aesthetic, which only really ended up showing in the pants, which I imagined she painted and patched up herself

Besides that I gave them curlier hair, more akin to gen 3, and a tail (I was going to add more wolfy features, like a dog nose and fur tufts on the cheeks and elbows, but I didn’t like the way it looked so I took it out)

My Clawdeen is a lesbian demi-girl and uses she/they pronouns :D they’re also Afro-Latina obv

And just a bit further analysis and commentation because sweet 1600 is my favourite line ever and omg these dolls.

From right to left cause I needed to talk about the ugly elephant in the room.

Cupid

I cannot believe how hard they flopped on the possible queen of the century especially when all of the fanarts of her in her literal corny bloomers were full of promise. Her colour scheme is all over the place but that teal is sooo not needed. That headband was bad but the fast its unpainted and sat in such a key focal point area is horrific. That dress reminds of the disaster that was howliday cleo but somehow nowhere near as ugly. She is so apple white coded (thronecoming fr) unnecessarily I thought it was bad enough when we got that blondie with apples face that no one in the world owns. The gradient on her legs, I understand why they had to change it from the original with the white symbols on top but it dosen't work and i'm praying it looks alright when the dolls arrive. Those platform shoes are actually kinda nice just unsure about that gold maybe if they were airbrushed they would look nicer. The blue around cupids eyes make her look dead and so does her heart earrings which from a distance to me look like dead beating hearts. That black bow bothers me so much why is it right there its so not needed and ruins everything the most and the money for that could of been used for the headband!

Frankie

They did them so bad with that undetailed leg, such a letdown after monster ball in particular. I think that pink on the balloon and leg detracts and is a bit garish in contrast, I wish they chose something more subtle and fitting if they are so insistent on pink. That cage is so darling charming I am def giving it to her. Apart from the blush being not the nicest they are a really nice frank doll.

Draculaura

Where do I even begin if you haven't my other first ever post I am so desperate to own her I never saw this coming at all. Asides from what I already wrote the fabric of her under skirt is to die for and every disney princess girls dream. I am desperate to the back of her shoes but her eye makeup is what a drac fierce rockers could be and her lips are I think would of been better a solid colour than the gradient they are but its no biggie. Her heart handle brella is sooo cute for lala please do it again mattel best idea ever. Those gloves are so madeline hatter way to wonderland omg I am very nostalgic to that well done mattel. That box is so shade to howliday cleo because I was going to get her box but this is it but properly good. Her bodice and earrings are just pure amazingness but her hair the silhouette and curve and the black highlights at the top are totally like skulltimate secrets 3 but without that darn treated poly (another doll I now don't need) but I hope it looks just as good in box cause just wow. Lastly, her hat is so adorbs and reminds me of a call back to dawn of the dances famous 3 pack exclusive drac who I still don't own cause being a european doll collector can suck at times.

Cleo

Finally, the diva herself whilst I am never a big fan of cleo especially G3 with her washed out eyes and blue palette this might be her best look yet. Her hair is what monster ball should of been to be honest her whole look is what it should of been. I swear we have had snakes on the top of shoes before from mh but maybe it was just ghouls alive clawdeens cat shoes im thinking of but they are still nice either way but not mindblowing like that laura. Her skirt cage is very Marie Antoinette which is so fitting but I'm not the keenest on the shape it gives her dress and the tassles that dangle from it that should of been fabric if needed. I am probably just going to get her for her hair cause thats thebonly thing I am really bothered about.

Overall

All of these are similar to their originals yet add a new delicious twist except for cupid she's rotten to her core im afraid. The spine balloons and now im just praying the packaging and eyeshadow is impeccable. Would love to do a review of these and find all the extra IRL hidden deets. Totally buying em all and drac as soon as I possible can without combusting.

One G1 complaint before I actually go and do my take on the Monster High cast (Clawdeen, Draculaura, Frankie Stein, Cleo de Nile, Lagoona Blue, Ghoulia Yelps + Abbey Bonimable, Clawd, Torelei and Duce... Maybe Operetta since I remember she was my favourite) is that Abbey has a Russian accent.

Like G3 did her accent so much better, BECAUSE SHE'S NOT RUSSIAN!

She's from the Himalayas.

If you think she should still have a Russian accent I want you to look at a map spend 10 minutes measuring the distance between the Himalayas and Siberia.

Like I missed the fact she's the daughter of the Yeti because of it, I just thought she's just... Russian something.

Like if I were to make a monster that's Russian/Slavic I'm ALWAYS picking a Rusalka.

For those unaware, Rusalkas are essentially nymphs from the Slavic mythology who lure men to bodies of water to drown them. And it wouldn't be too hard to make them since all the monsters in MH are humanoid + there already are characters who are just mythological creatures!

Or you could always take the easier way and make them/her a descendant of either the Fire Bird (it's different from a Phoenix) or Baba Yaga or if you want to go obscure Kikimora (yes, Kikimora is in FACT a witch from Slavic mythology) or Poludnica (a spirit that harmed anyone trying to work around midday).

The main reasons I would personally go with Rusalka are:

1. More water monsters.

2. You could go wild with it as long as it looks like a pretty girl.

3. More monsters with dark hair (never enough of them)

4. Making a name for them is very easy, like you got the base for a name play right there like Russila Kalka or something.

5. Better fit for a monster with a Russian/other Slavic accent than a girl from South West Asia.

This was another zine project! I blended Draculaura's gen 1 and gen 3 designs. It was a fun challenge, and I kind of want to do it for all the monster girls. She wasn't as popular as I was hoping but I don't care because I love her.

Kate: Hold on a second, what does make you think like that?

Draculaura: He thinks I'm short! He thinks I'm a ghoul who can't get her books! Why would he think I'm short? I'm not short! He's short!

Kate: Alright, kiddo, just calm down. Is there anything else I should know?

Draculaura: He literally carved a platform for my sweet 1600th birthday!

Kate: *stands up* Oh, that @#₺hole. I think I've heard enough about this wolf-boy. It's time to teach him a lesson about how to treat a girl right.
