Like I get that Frankenstein is an absolute banger of a book, and I know that you could do the whole Mad Scientist thing 1000x better than he ever did and so on... but also maybe you should just try out Art Therapy instead?

Or invite Renfield onto your podcast and talk about edible insects! Plenty of cultures eat insects, after all.

i put this in the tags of that beautiful beautiful emster art but it’s off topic so i’ll put it on its own. i loveee when what ultimately brings a villain down is that they discarded the person who had been most loyal to them for the longest because they didn’t think said ally could get back at them or influence anything in general. and ultimately that’s what gets them in the end

and ds does this so many times like first with jason - the thing that ultimately kills jason isn’t one of his many enemies, but the fact that he turns against and hurts willie, his former friend who tried to help him out of danger many times and who he thinks he can now totally overpower. and then actually BARNABAS does the same thing with willie where the only reason him killing maggie is thwarted is that willie does something about it which, like, it never occurred to barnabas to be worried about because he didn’t think willie could actually like, affect stuff. and then petofi dies, after barnabas and quentin and everyone all totally run out of ways to defeat him, just because he tries to kill aristede, who was never anything but loyal to him, for a petty reason. it’s always a sexy plot beat

Why do so many Dracula reimaginings kill off or mangle Jonathan Harker's character?

Even when it is books that do stuff like mashups of popular gothic/Victorian novels, they seem to prefer turning Harker into a dead man or a creep to his wife, which is just sad because Mina and him have one of the rare marriages in old timey books that are not really bland.

((On a similar note, I also get sad that adaptations never seem to capture how unexpectedly delightful the protagonists in Dracula are. They are such a neat little team and I actually kinda found them more interesting than Dracula himself in the book.))
