#which is a FEAT mind you considering the tag is full of the 2023 movie which i really hated 😭#simply because that's not renfield that's jonathan if he ate bugs. stop using the 1930s movie as a reference PLEASE#i still love the 1930s movie but only because bela lugosi and dwight frye were made specifically for those roles- bad script be damned#also because he's basically jonathan the movie had him have an ex lady? RENFIELD? babes. babes. look at me.#the vampire bite is an allegory for many things in the book#when lucy is bitten repeatedly it can be taken as a metaphor for illness#when lucy bites children i see it a lot as a direct flipping of the script of the role she was meant to fulfill-#she's the classic woman archetype as opposed to mina's new woman. she's here to marry and be a housewife with no job etc#but now as a vampire instead of nurturing children she's drinking their life away#visceral victorian shit!#then with mina it's directly assault. straight up. no two ways about it.#but then. look at me. look into my eyes. what do you reckon. the man - the /insane/ man that's SEEKING OUT vampirism#(by another man)#is meant to be an allegory for. in a post wilde trial book.#ofc it's just my read but like. like.
