It is the 25th. Most of the world is with family.

Mine is a little more scattered, but time was spent with them for part of the holiday. I decided to finished something self indulgent as a gift to myself. I don’t often render fan art (I do appreciate a decent amount of it tho)

I have been picking at this piece for… months? In the vein of other fanart I did a study of L'Ange déchu (The Fallen Angel) by Alexandre Cabanel but swapped in Dilandau from an old anime (Visions of Escaflowne). I have no idea if this fandom still breaths, but I know I still enjoy this piece of media.

Escaflowne Secret Santa: Return to Atlantis

Part two of my gift for @HeiloUnplugged

When I think of the character Dryden Fassa I first think of adventure, curiosity and… Atlantis! After all he is the the who knew a lot about it. And he was the one who really wanted to go on a trip there while everyone else was only thinking about war.

So, a few years back I wrote my first fanfic about Dryden convincing Allen and Van to go back to the Mystic Valley to unravel some of its mysteries. My writing sucked, but I still think the story itself was funny. It was a combination of a buddy road trip and some drama with Van seeing his ghost mum again and Allen retrieving the bones of his father. I intend to rewrite it someday. Not sure what the adventures will be precisely. But I had some images in my head I’d like to share here.

Well… that escalated quickly.

After all, let’s not forget it was their wishes combined with Hitomis pendant that opened the portal to Atlantis.

What a great twist it was back then to add Dryden to the Escaflowne gang! The show wouldn’t be the same without his humor and lightheartedness. Although he could really check his privileges sometimes and the scene where he reads Leon’s diary are simply cruel. Still he enriches everything and is a great counter weight to all the seriousness and stick-up-the-buttery.

My Escaflowne secret santa gift for LegendoftheSevenStars

At first I wanted to write something but after a while I switched to an artwork instead.

It's supposed to be some kind of Best-Of of Celena :>

Her "sins" as Dilandau slowly dissolving in the past while still being a part of her. The support of her loved ones (Jajuka and Allen respectively) all while learing to finally live as herself and how she wants.

I really love the blue dress she wears in that one episode where we first really see Celena <3

The whole artwork is supposed to look like some kind of Fine Art Print. I hope I managed to convey that xD

Okay listen, I am a total V/H lover but I also looooove speculating about post-war Gaea and what happens to the main cast!

In the series Millerna undergoes an incredible character arc and I find her so well-written, she totally escaped the typical "jealous rival" portrayal. Van too goes through a LOT and in that setting of post-war geopoliticking there's not a lot of people that is on the same social (royal) plane that he could relate to. And he seems to have some knowledge of medicine as well. So why not!

Anyway this is my galaxybrain prompt and I'm so glad @coverteyes got the vision!! :D Van may have been a fuckin mess when he was younger but he has learned to go for it!

i have such a love for characters who descend into madness or villainy out of deep, deep empathy. characters who fundamentally cannot cope with the cruel realities they find themselves in and blow up about it in spectacular fashion. fallen angel type characters with tears of outrage in their eyes. characters who break before they bend, and break so badly they splatter blood all over their noble ideals. every variation on it gets me so good

when everyone's convening around folken and van is like "um... yeah so i'm actually completely fine, not a problem for me that the girl i like went back to the moon, makes everything a lot easier, haha, right guys? i'm not even swallowing broken glass at all atm" and folken this whole time is obviously thinking fuck this fuck thiiiiiiis hahaha if she's gone we're boned because my whole plan is nosediving as we spea— but hearing the lies his little brother is telling to himself, out LOUD?!, he gives van this withering look
