Jayce walked miles in Viktor's shoes, ascending from the lowest fissure of Zaun to the highest spire of Piltover on broken leg and in diseased body only to be met by the reality of his own death.

Viktor faced countless years wasting in the loneliness Jayce feared when faced with Viktor's terminality, having never before even considered that Jayce might go first.

Both of them faced some of the most heinous things and the possibilities of what those meant for them personally, only to have to literally suffer each other's worst fears in the end. All just so they could finally understand the motivations pulling them along the other's path.

In the end, they both forgave the other, not because the other was right or wrong, but because they empathized with what led the other to their unique decisions - Viktor for thinking he wasn't enough because he had to put forth ten times the effort as everyone around him only to lose out in the end anyway, and Jayce because the idea of living in a world without the other half of his soul was literally too painful for him to bear to the point of absolute desperation.
