Caitlyn’s Prejudice
When Caitlyn believes Singed is a Zaunite, he’s simply another example of how truly perverse and monstrous “they” are, but when she learns he’s originally from Piltover -
He’s a monster.
Dr. Reveck is not representative of Piltover or its people in any kind of way; he’s now an individual to Caitlyn whose horrific actions are his and his alone as they have nothing to do with which city he originates from. Not anymore at least, because "now" he's from Piltover.
And this is how prejudices work and stay alive.
This is such a great showcase of Caitlyn’s prejudice against Zaun and how despite being conflicted, her own bigoted views convince her she’s in the right and while I wouldn’t say she doubles down, she certainly doesn’t stop herself, even if a part of her wants to do better.

Caitlyn and Ambessa's Game of Cat and Mouse pt. 3- Dr. Reveck
First, I'm going to start off with the interrogation scene because there's something Singed says Afterwards that really stuck with me, "It's always the same look when one covets a weapon." but the thing is is that Singed never looks at Ambessa during the interrogation, he turns his head slightly at the sound of the music, but never really looks at her face. Which means that he was able to discern from her tone that she's after the beast, not wanting to hunt it.
Which makes me wonder if Caitlyn was able to pick up on that as well? Or if she was too busy losing her cool with Singed not cooperating? But there's a couple scenes in particular that make me believe that she picked up on it. Because it's pretty suspicious that Ambessa let's him out at all, but it could be written off as Ambessa having an offscreen convo saying "he'll help us track and hunt the beast" however, I don't necessarily believe that.
The first thing Ambessa says in this scene is "This will allow you to locate your beast?" and it's most likely something that Caitlyn heard before making her presence known, because although very faint you can start to hear Caitlyn's steps before reaching the two of them (Ambessa merely shifts her weight, you can hear walking steps as she does this, and they match the louder, more precise steps before Caitlyn is revealed in shot). This new information is something she most likely takes note of. In the interrogation room Ambessa mentions "tell us how to kill the beast" but NOW it's "locate the beast" that means that Ambessa's Wanting it, Ambessa has confirmed Caitlyn's suspicions that she's after powerful weapons. There's a reason that Caitlyn shows up here at all, and it's to kill Dr. Reveck, she just had to find a justifiable reason for doing so.
When Caitlyn Does makes herself known, the look in Ambessa's eyes tells us that she wasn't expecting Caitlyn to show up. And the way that they both say "Commander" and "General" to each other seem to try to make themself look as casual as possible. Because Caitlyn Herself has ulterior motives for showing up as well.
Caitlyn then goes on a whole monologue about how her family's records held mystery of "the curious dismissal of a revered academy alchemist." Which is then that she reveals that the creator of Shimmer is the said alchemist: Dr. Reveck.
Caitlyn uses this monologue as the said justifiable reason to kill him. Because if Caitlyn kills him, then Ambessa loses her lead to finding the beast. Now, watch Ambessa's face in the background when Caitlyn pulls the gun out on him. Her eyes shift between the two, she thinks Caitlyn's Actually going to kill him, which worries her because again, she will lose access to how to find the beast.
Now Reveck is the one to put the ball back in Ambessa's court by playing to Caitlyn's sympathies by showing them his daughter. Because by doing this, she doesn't find it in herself to kill him. And they get to continue to find the beast.
-cont. in part 4-

UNFRIENDLY REMINDER THAT SINGED WAS ALREADY EXPERIMENTING ON SHIMMER AND THINGS TO BRING BACK HIS DAUGHTER LONG BEFORE JAYCE FOUND OUT ABOUT MAGIC AND STARTED TO INVESTIGATE HEXTECH. HE'S BEEN EXPERIMENTING SINCE VIKTOR WAS A KID, AND PERFECTION EVERYTHING BY THE HALF OF ACT 1 IN S1, MAKING IT READY FOR CONSUMPTION AND USE BEFORE THE SECOND EPISODE FINISHED.
Don't put the blame on Jayce for things he didn't do. He only happened to even the grounds with the Hextech.

It's all fun and memes to joke about how Caitlyn immediately switched sides the moment she hears Vi call her cupcake again. And I do it too. But to me, the switch wasn't abrupt at all.
From the first scene in episode four, Caitlyn already says that the martial law has been going on much longer than she wanted. In the next scene, you see her standing up to Ambessa, using her words back at her, for which Ambessa calls her fearless. It shows that Caitlin has not given up control and is not being puppeteered by Ambessa. She's in control still, but her singular focus is still on Jinx like it was in act one.
Vi was right that Caitlyn is behaving like Jinx, but it was probably the worst thing Vi could have said to her, no matter how true, cause Caitlyn was too deep in her quest for 'justice' in her grief. That's why she reacted so violently.
Jinx is the target of her obsession, or her in her mind for justice, even though what she really wants is vengeance, and being compared to Jinx cut deep. Vi had noticed the similarity before in season one, but that was before Jinx kidnapped Caitlyn and wanted her dead.
In the beginning of episode four, she feels that it's been going on too long, but even after all those months her obsession is still stronger. Her obsession with getting vengeance, finding Jinx, killing Jinx, is still stronger than her moral compass, which she has abandoned to avenge her mother and fill her mother's shoes.
But over the course of the second act before she sees Vi again, there are multiple things that happen that make Caitlyn understand she has to stop, that what she's doing isn't right or justifiable.
Some of these were not initially clear to me when I first watched it. but one thing I realized today while I was working out is that one crucial moment for Caitlyn's arc in act two is with Singed.
Taking her singular focus off Jinx for a moment, Caitlyn does what she does best and figures out who Singed is, and what he's responsible for. She uncovers that Singed is actually the formerly revered alchemist Dr. Corin Reveck, who used to work with Heimerdinger at the academy. Arcane implies he is from Piltover and became a Zaunite after being kicked out of Piltover. He helped build up Piltover to what it is, and now he is ravaging Zaun with shimmer, weapons and monsters.
When she calls him a monster and asks him "why do all this?", he tells her he did it 'for love'. Out of love for his deceased daughter.
And I think that that is one of the crucial moments where Caitlyn starts to realize that what she is doing is not very different from him.
She's doing things her old self would never have approved, of out of love and grief for her deceased mother.
When she sees Vi again, she doesn't suddenly switch sides, she's already been doubting her chosen course of action. She initially says "you can't be here", because Caitlyn is trying to believe she's doing the right thing still, and knows Vi is a threat to that belief/lie.
Vi calling her cupcake though, is one of the last drops in the bucket. She left Vi to do what she thought she needed to do, what her mother might have done. What she's doing out of guilt for not saving her mother when she had the chance. She even tried to be with a girl her mother would have approved of.
When Vi calls her cupcake, all the feelings she's been trying to stuff away come flooding back. She snaps out of this self-imposed love-deprived state she's been in, and she can no longer deny she loves Vi.
When Vi tells her that she's trying to save her dad, I think that is the moment she actually switches sides. That was the last drop. That is the moment where she realizes there are still people she loves, who love her, who are still alive and they need her help, and that is more important than her horrible campaign for vengeance out of grief, otherwise she's no different than Singed.

So episode 5 confirmed the theory that Orianna is Singed's daughter (ballerina figurine + same hairstyle + Caitlyn revealing Singed's true name to be Dr. Reveck, the name of Orianna's father in her League story).
I wonder if Viktor will somehow become the machine herald and that will inspire Singed to "save" his daughter by replacing her body with machinery while doing something to keep her conciousness alive (like what I assume Viktor will do)
Her League description says that "her failing body had to be replaced with exquisite artifice, piece by piece." so I don't think it's out of the question that they'd go this route in Arcane

This is gonna probably be a really long post about my thoughts for Act 3 with what has been set up already because I need to shout into the void about this shit LMAO get ready for a WALL of text
Also a fair warning, I'm gonna be talking about so much jayvik/vikjayce in this you don't understand THE HELL I AM GOING THROUGH THERE IS GONNA BE SO MUCH COPIUM IN THIS
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SEASON 2 !!!
Quick mini-review: I feel like a contrarian when I say that I actually preferred Act 2 to Act 1. There were a lot of things set up and a lot of payoffs. I do have issues with the pacing overall; season 1 had much better structure and with the introduction of so much LOL lore in season 2, there are bound to be issues. There were 6 years of production for season 1 vs. 3 years of production for season 2, and it has clearly had an effect on the writing. Some scenes are too quick, some scenes are too slow, some cuts are too abrupt - I feel this is painfully obvious sometimes and talking with my friends about it we all agree that the pacing has suffered immensely.
But other than that, Act 2 has been really playing with my emotions and there are so many moments where I just kept breaking down over the scenes with Jinx, Vi, Vander and Isha. The watercolour-style flashbacks were so incredibly well done and those scenes had a lot of love put into them - props to Studio Fortiche!
I believe there is definitely a time paradox happening of some kind, one where Jayce, Ekko and Heimerdinger are lost in some kind of timeline.
This reflection in this artwork feels like it's hinting at what we will see in Act 3, maybe a different timeline, or the future, and Jayce will end up seeing the outcome of the Arcane. I feel that with how the lore is being changed, they need to give him some purpose or reason to pursue Viktor, to officially make them enemies. Whatever Jayce will see or experience will lead to that - a difference in perspectives and ideals.
Also, this shot, where Jayce returns and we see him glitching in and out, I feel that's a really clear depiction of a paradox, of different timelines converging or something similar. I can just imagine him living through all these different events, surviving something so awful, and now it's destroying him from the inside. He's so traumatized and I will defend him with my whole being.
I'm also a bit worried now about Ekko and Heimerdinger. I'm convinced that the latter won't survive however I'm not so sure about Ekko. I feel that everything being a time paradox would lead really well into him finally receiving his time powers, but as of now I think he is really under-utilized in the series as a whole, more so in season 2, and I'm really hopeful that we will get more screen time with him in Act 3.
Singed's role in this season is huge and it will definitely become even more important in Act 3. The introduction of Orianna, which I thought was so great, as well as the name-drop of "Dr. Reveck" has really set up his motivations. Warwick being his experiment for bringing back his daughter I believe will lead to him experimenting with Viktor.
Warwick's design was confusing to me at first. He felt too human but I think that was intentional - Singed wanted to create him with some humanity, a test, hence he is still more like Vander, still able to feel his love for Jinx and Vi. I believe he will survive, and Singed will get rid of his humanity completely, potentially leading to a more LOL accurate look.
This also brings me to Viktor and his OG lore. I really liked his concept in the game and I will admit, seeing them change it in Arcane worried me. While I really love the design, I was hopeful that we would see Viktor entering his glorious evolution era. But now with his interactions with Singed, with Singed's personal motivation for revival, I believe that there is still hope. Seeing how Orianna is preserved, still human-like, I believe that Singed's discoveries will lead him to recreating Viktor with metal, something closer to what we see in the game, maybe a cursed combination of both Arcane and machine, and I believe he will see it as a breakthrough in bringing Orianna back.
The way he describes it, the way he says, "You must survive, Viktor," a parallel to him saying "the specimen must survive" feels so intentional. He sees the potential in reanimation with how Viktor returned, healed, and this won't be the end of him, not yet, he must survive.
This scene where Viktor asks Singed, "Do you believe in fate?" I believe also points to another thing. Viktor knew very early on what his fate would be. He was accepting of it, he was confused as to why he was alive, and I believe in the scene where Jayce kills him, that look in his eyes was of acceptance. He did not look afraid, he looked at peace - with the idea of different timelines, with Viktor becoming closer to the celestial, he might've already known what would happen, which is why he invites Jayce to meet him. That with him saying, "I've been expecting you, doctor," is another reason I think that Viktor is aware of everything.
With Singed's final words to Viktor, the disdain in Viktor's eyes, the way Sky is looking at Viktor directly, frantic, worried, an expression of dread at the thought of the Arcane dying out completely, of all the progress coming to an end. I still believe the core is manipulating Viktor, that Sky is the personification of it, and that the core is aware of its own evolution reaching its final state, death - like a virus without a host.
And then there was this, the heavy breathing, the gritted teeth, squint in his eyes, the way he drops down - it felt like heartbreak, like guilt. He just murdererd a man, a man that spoke to him as Viktor.
Just this look. He's tired. He's returned from hell and he can see the beginning of the end, he can see Viktor's descent into madness, recognizes it immediately, and he's disappointed. Maybe he'd hoped to see something else.
Also, with Jayce saying, "I thought you were done with Hextech, and me," could imply that this new version of Viktor, remade by Singed, would no longer have a connection the Arcane - he is reforged, he has realized the weakness of flesh and compassion, "it's inescapable," and he will be remade with steel and rage, once again against his will, just like Warwick was. And perhaps, in this dark future, when Jayce finally sees what Viktor becomes, sees Viktor reject him entirely, that he is done with him, is also what makes Jayce spiral.
And now that he has returned, seeing Viktor welcome him with open arms, inviting him to spend time together, to show him what he has uncovered - what must he have seen? What must Viktor have said to him to make him feel so denied and unwanted?
Someone he once loved, someone that broke him, showing him the same gentleness and care he had once before.
"I won't fail. I swear it."
This entire sequence was insane. The different emotions in Jayce's face, the way he's cycling through pain and fear and conviction. The initial shock in his eyes, seeing what his Viktor has become, seeing him in this state, before the corruption - he looks vulnerable, he doesn't fight back, doesn't resist. He has made his promise to Viktor before, and I believe this is another promise to him, a promise to rend his mistake and do right by him. And Jayce looks frightened by his actions, frightened by the sight before him - Viktor looks so exhausted, so sick - I can imagine it reminds Jayce of him before he combined with the Hexcore.
Jayce's entire arc this season is about him gaining more agency, more control of himself despite the way he has been spiraling, whilst for Viktor it's the opposite, he has lost himself to a greater purpose, a perfect mirror to how they were in season 1.
The way their designs mirror them both too, Jayce getting the leg brace, his eyes changing, him being afflicted with the Arcane, Viktor keeping the blanket, keeping a cog that reminds him of the discoveries they made together, one side of it being perfectly clear, the other corrupted, a representation of them - two sides of the same coin.
I believe Viktor's monologue at the end, the scenes with him and Sky in a magical world where he is emoting, showing compassion for those that suffer, his realization that emotion is inescapable, shows that he still feels, even if it is all subdued. His reaction to Jayce killing Salo hurt, he looked pained and yet, as though he expected it - "that isn't Jayce" - it's not his Jayce, not the Jayce that he remembers, the one that he stayed with over shared affections, this is a Jayce ruined by him, and he is yet to see just how much they have and will hurt each other.
Maybe the exquisite chaos he is talking about is his corruption from the future, constantly self-replicating and self-annihilating, something that he has never observed before because it is yet to happen to him. He knows his fate, but not anything beyond that.
A couple final notes:
All the butterfly imagery - Jayce's hammer, the explosion in the mesh(?), the "Talis" butterfly - a symbol of death, rebirth, transformation
The parallels between Jayce and Singed, wanting to keep Viktor alive, creating a monster, and now Jayce having to destroy that which he created, a consequence of him breaking his promise
Viktor appearing as though he is connected to both the void and something celestial, godly, a balance
TLDR; jayvik divorce era will be the death of me, they were made for each other and will be the death of each other
#can you tell im mentally ill#my level of copium is immesurable#dont mind me just the ramblings of an insane man#jayvik sextape act 3 TRUST#arcane season 2#arcane spoilers#arcane viktor#arcane jayce#jayvik#rambles#if you actually did read this all the way through thats crazy and i love you

Episode 5 immediate thoughts
Spoilers ahead!
-Oh hey it's the big guy who used to be on Caitlyns strike team.
-Get em Vi
-Jinx is betting on Vi's fights
-Average lesbian breakup experience
-Did she dye her hair black? Or did she just cry enough eyeliner onto herself that it turned it black?
-THE SISTER REUNION
-Vi is reminded by the shimmer tear that Jinx isn't fully in control of herself.
-Proud of Jinx though for being able to be in Vi presence without a breakdown
-Last time they saw each other Vi was fully ready to kill Jinx. Most brutal fight in the series. Now they can work together? Thats kinda rushed.
-Caitlyn using her detective skills again!
-"Peacekeeping operations" Yeah right Caitlyn.
-Caitlyn is full on racist
-Full on fascist
-The Caitlyn stans are gonna be fighting for their LIVES trying to defend her.
-This is the first time we've seen Mel not collected, or at least put together and considerate.
-ELORA!!!
-Mels brother?
-Mels brother!
-Well Vi got over basically all the Jinx stuff pretty quick.
-I mean this is basically what both of them really wanted, to be a family again, and it was achieved with very little ceremony.
-Did Jinx find out the mushroom aren't toxic by eating them? Does she eat every new thing she finds just to check?
-If Vi thinks this is Jinx lying why would she follow her?
-"BITCHMITTENS"
-Typical sibling behavior
-Vi is a child hitter confirmed. Considering Jinx's lingering trauma from Vi's reaction to the explosion in S1 Ep3, I'de think she would have a worse reaction to Vi hitting Isha.
-Whaarwhick is more savage than any beast in Noxus? Knowing Noxus from league I find that hard to believe.
-Wait, did Silco kill Vi and Jinx's parents? Is that why they split? I need to rewatch this frame by frame.
-Singed holding his daughter
-Singed real name is Dr. Reveck
-If Mel and Kino are surprised Ambessa has a love child, were they her hatechilds?
-Mel herself is a magical maguffin for the cult running a foreign nation. I thought she was just a super cool girlboss.
-Jinx is a jacket sniffer.
-Was Vander in love with their mom? I thought he was their adopted dad, has he been their bio dad the whole time?
-Vi defending Jinx 🥺
-Is that Singed daughter on the record Felicity is playing.
-Oh no young Silco is hot
-Felicity sounds like Jinx when she says "working up the nerve"
-That one tweet was right, Arcane music is horrifically literal.
-I don't care if it's rushed. This scene is straight out of a feel good fix it fic and I love it. Happiness and family for the Zaun sisters!
-Is this Salo after being healed by Viktor?
-Knew it
-Jayce, where ya been buddy?
-Viktor broke Jayce out so he could come see him. I mean it is probably not Viktor, it's the hexcore taking people over, but still.
-And once again the dynamic is reversed
-Just leaving Ekko and Heimerdinger in their huh?
-JAYCE STRAIGHT UP MURDERED HIM! HOLY SHIT! WHAT!?
-I THOUGHT HE WAS JUST GONNA BONK HIM TO KNOCK HIM OUT!
-WTF HAPPENED TO HIM!
Overall: Ok, so this felt rushed. The last 4 acts have been tearing these sisters apart, entirely centering on the traumas and outside forces that keep them from being a family. Then Jinx shows up and it takes one sentence to get Vi back, granted Vander being alive is big news, but Vi thinks Jinx is lying to her. Why wouldn't she be mad at Jinx?
Jayce straight up murderred a guy, I wish we got to see more of how he got to this point.
Caitlyn is still as much of a dictator as she has been all, but she does get consistently worse.
Mel is in a totally different story now.
Things are only looking up for Jinx and Vi.
Even with it being rushed I do like Jinx and Vis story here, I want happiness for them , sue me. But I don't see how they could possibly meaningfully redeem all the other characters in the 4 episodes left. Which means I think Arcane season 2 might not be peak anymore, entertaining? Yes. Interesting? Yes. Exciting? Yes. Peak? Maybe not. I still love it, but the cracks are showing.

Arcane season 2…
Act 2 was incredible! I have never cried so much for this show before the new eps came out…
(Spoilers below the cut)
Viktor’s fully embraced the Machine Herald title, but I never thought he’d create a commune/cult… also, he said it! He said “glorious evolution!” That’s all I wanted from him!
Warwick is Vander! We were right! I cried when he hugged the girls, the family is back together!
Flashbacks galore for Vander, our first look at Jinx and Vi’s mom and the return of Silco (younger him technically), they were so happy before the bridge assault… it’s so cute that Vander gave Vi her name.
Jayce must’ve gotten real messed up while in the Anomaly, how could he kill Viktor?! RIP Machine Herald… Jayce fucked up big time. Hopefully, he doesn’t mess things up further…
Vi took the breakup hard… alcohol and violence don’t really help… but on the bright side, the Emo look is working for her!
Isha and Jinx were so cute together! They must’ve really bonded between Act 1 and 2. I cried when she did her big hero sacrifice for Warwick/Vander. RIP Isha, you will be avenged…
I had no idea that Singed’s real name was Dr Reveck, I knew he lost his daughter, but the extent he went to save her? I’m conflicted…
Still no Ekko and Heimerdinger? Are they still lost in the Anomaly? Hopefully they come back in Act 3…
Caitlyn is really embracing her Commander role. I’m glad she defected and helped take down Ambessa. But also she hooked up with Maddie? We need another CaitVi kiss to heal the heartbreak…
We now know where Mel went when she was taken by the Black Rose. She also had a brief reunion with Kino, who apparently isn’t dead… but then that turned out to be not real (man…). Whoever took her is apparently Mel’s half sister, Ambessa had an affair and this is the repercussions that came of it. But what was that glow? Was that her gold plating? Is it magic? Is that the reason she survived Jinx’s missile in the season 1 finale?
Vision, might, guile, (and to Ambessa) sacrifice. Those are the principles that define strength according to Noxus. Ambessa had a vision of martial law, she had the might to enforce it, the guile to make it seem like it’s for the good of Piltover. All I need to see now is the sacrifice…
The music never fails to disappoint, it got me hyped, it got me crying, and dropped my jaw to the floor!
Overall, shit is getting real, I can’t tell what’s gonna happen next. All I know is that there’s gonna be a battle to end all battles in Act 3 and the Arcane will change the world forever. See you in a week…

General Arcane season two thoughts while Im still shaking
NGL I thought Vi and Jinx's mom, felicity, was in a polycule with Vander and Silco when I watched that scene so I'm incorporating that into my headcanons
WHERE THE FUCK IS ECHO WHERE IS MY BOI
Mel is a mage! or something! but she's smart and can do magic now so keep girl bossing girliepop
Singed is Corin Reveck!!!! He's Dr Reveck and he has Orianna in the coffin like a fairytale princess!! MY GIRL ORIANNA IS HERE (sorta)
Side note it looks like they may have de-aged Orianna??? which I'm not a big fan of since I'm worried it may take away some of her agency as a character also like unless Orianna is the vgu her league design is just going to be....... look I don't want to get into it unless I get an ask about it all right
Vi's pitfighter arc really was just the montage huh? welp she made up with Jinx so sisterhood????yay???
Sevika just dipped didn't she
Viktor just straight up started a commune and was giving up pieces of himself and probably even parts of Sky so they could help people.... my selfless little babies
Jinx getting to be Isha's big sister was so sweet until Isha blew herself up, like honey Jinx is gonna snap again
not a big fan of Maddie and Caitlyn but I've seen worse
Something fucking broke Jayce's mind like TERRIBLY, I'm still pissed at him and it's still on sight since he RE-ORPHANED JINX AND VI and also murdered like a fuck ton of people (also he might have murdered sky again, babygirl can not catch a break)
Also Jayce fully being the reason why Viktor turns into the machine herald... my heart can't take it like worstie you created the monster you were scared of facing
Vander :(
Caitlyn is like less evil now so..... a win???????

Sooo guess who just finished season 2 of Arcane?
Spoilers below
DID VIKTOR REALLY JUST BECOME JESUS???????
Okay, but no joke, I watch this show with my sister, and she warned me about the last episode (I let her spoil it for me), so I was prepared when Viktor died, but ISHA???? SOBBING. I cried in her arms for about ten minutes. Jinx was FINALLY making progress, and then Isha died?
And Salo was finally making some character development when Jayce just had to kill him.
I'm so glad these aren't the last episodes because Heimerdinger and Ekko die I'm going to ugly cry. Also, can Singed or Dr. Reveck or whatever his name is just die? His voice ticks me off an insane amount. I don't want him to get a redemption arc, I want him dead. Ambessa is on thin ice but if Mel wants her to have a redemption arc then I'll accept it.
Why is it the second Viktor and Jayce have their breakup, Jayce goes crazy and Viktor turns into Jesus, and when Caitlyn and Vi break up, Caitlyn turns into a dictator and Vi becomes emo?
Also the show is still beautiful, the music is still fire, and I'm deeply emotionally traumatized
