Brent Spiner
The vaguest most subtle spoilers up ahead
(when I use the term Brent Spiner I'm using it to mean the chareters he plays in star trek as a collective term)
Brent Spiner is the docter of the star trek universe.
The Docter is one person who regenarates into many faces.
Brent Spiner is one face who regenenarates into many people.
Brent spiner isn't the type of person who has his fingers in all the pies, he's the type of person that the pies were grown on his fingers.

🔬📄 source: https://redshirtsalwaysdie.com/2021/03/18/originally-brent-spiner-wasnt-going-dr-soong/
Brent Spiner had his hands full during Star Trek: The Next Generation playing the android Data who wanted to be more human. He also took on other roles on the holodeck like Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Ira Graves and, of course, off the holodeck, he embraced the identity of his evil brother, Lore which he told Syfy Wire was “the perfect part for me.” 😈 But there was another role that also fit him perfectly but originally wasn’t going to be his, that of Data and Lore’s father, Dr. Noonian Soong.
Though Spiner suggested he play the part, another actor, Keye Luke ((Chinese-American actor 🇺🇸🇨🇳)), had been cast as the role was for an older actor. Spiner didn’t know at the time that Luke had already been chosen for the part. He just thought it would make sense to have him playing the man who created the brothers in his own image.
When Spiner discovered Luke had been cast, he tried to take back his suggestion, but Keye Luke’s ill-health left him unable to play Dr. Soong. So Spiner was given the role, and then he promptly panicked because he didn’t know how he was going to play an old man.
I thought, ‘Oh my God, how am I going to play this?’ Because he was an old man, and I really didn’t know what I was going to do.
But once the show’s make-up expert, Michael Westmore, put the make-up on Spiner, the actor took one look in the mirror and knew how he was going to play the part.
Spiner went on to play Arik Soong (Noonian’s great-grandfather) on Star Trek: Enterprise, and Altan Inigo Soong (Noonian’s son) on the first season of Star Trek: Picard. And even though Data won’t be returning to Picard ((*COUGH* 😷)), Spiner hasn’t ruled out the possibility of returning yet again as Dr. Soong.
IDOL ⭐️ HANDS: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, he should definitely reprise the role as Noonian Soong if he reaches 90! ...perhaps a musical. 🎶
Y’know while it is a funky Star Trek thing that all male members of the Soong family look like literal clones of each other I - as someone who works with scientists who all think they are the very epidome of their field - can only say that these dudes creating androids that look exactly like them over and over again is one of the most realstic things that ever happened in Star Trek. I mean. Heck, I know a dude who literally named a planet he found after himself. XD

The Star Trek production team really just woke up and chose violence when they decided to have Brent Spiner play every single male Soong character in multiple shows, didn’t they? Like, when Dr. Soong first showed up, they easily could have found a generic old dude to play him and disregarded the plot point that Soong make them in his image. Instead, they chose to put Brent in complicated prosthetics to keep up the bit, a decision which I applaud them for, simply because it paints Soong as the kind of man who puts his own face on his inventions which I find wildly entertaining. But then they did it again with Soong’s actual child and his ancestor on Enterprise. Just thinking about basic genetics, it’s nearly impossible that Altan Inigo Soong would end up looking so damn similar to both his father AND some rando ancestor from two hundred years ago. it’s astonishingly amusing that they decided regardless of the show, they would find a way to include Spiner, no matter the cost. And honestly, who can blame them?

PicardPositivity Day 15: Altan Inigo Soong
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Raffi: "How are we going to get up there without being seen?"
There wasn't a lot of interaction between Altan and Rios. I would have liked to see some interaction with them, to bring some kind of closure to Rios for his part in the deaths and cover-ups of Jana and Beautiful Flower.
Here is a clip from a WIP that I might one day repurpose. It was originally set in a roleplay verse that we no longer use, but I might change it to fit what we have now or change it to just be canon-based.
But Cris snuck off and he found Sutra and he wondered what they were planning on doing with her. He’s been doing more research on Data lately. It doesn’t seem like Data’s brother Lore was all that happy when they had deactivated and dismantled him for similar reasons. He hoped they wouldn’t make the same mistakes, that Altan could learn from the mistakes of his father and figure out a better solution for Sutra. She was wrong in what she was trying to do but the way she bore her sister’s face—he couldn’t stop himself from sympathizing with her, mourning over her. He had deeply conflicted feelings, the desire to protect Agnes when Sutra had tried to mind meld with her after she had been so brutally mistreated with a mind meld by Commodore Oh—He shut his eyes tightly, and jumped when he heard footsteps, opening his eyes to look at who had found him. “Dr. Soong—” Cris glanced back at Sutra’s body, then at his host. I didn’t mean to—I just wanted to see her.” Cris explained. “It’s alright, Captain Rios.” Altan assured. “She… She looks so much like her sister.” “… Have you seen their memorial?” Soong asked. “Jana and Beautiful Flower?” Cris asked. Soong nodded. Cris frowned. “I haven’t really… Had time…” That was almost true. He could have made the time. And he’s thought about it, about finding out where it is or what he can do, something, anything, to… What? Make amends? Nothing he’ll ever do will make up for the part he played in their deaths and the subsequent cover-up. “There’s been an addition to it. Cherished Meadow insisted.” Cherished Meadow? “Is that—” Beautiful Flower’s twin. Soong nodded. “They’re working on it now. You’ll want to see this,” Soong told him. “Come with me.”
The idea was that Cherished Meadow, Beautiful Flower's twin, had arranged to add Vandermeer to their memorial, showing their understanding that he only did what he was forced to do, and took his own life over it. That they forgive him for what he did. I just thought it was a nice idea to give Cris a bit of closure. I also think that this happened with more than a little bit of prodding from Soong. Rios did bring Soji back to them, risked everything to find her and brought her home. It's a start, at least.

Okay but genuinely who the fuck thought it was a good idea to kill off Lal? You know how much more I’d enjoy the show if Lal popped in every ten or so episodes like Alexander? You know what I’d give to see Lal interact with Timothy in Hero’s Worship? Data learning to love his daughter in his own special android way while he helps her navigate life, Lal helping Dr. Crusher with patients in sick bay because humans fascinate her as much as they do her father and she finds healing them fulfilling, Riker being incredibly awkward around her the first couple of interactions he shares with her before loosening up and teaching her the trombone. She had so much potential, she could have furthered so many other characters. They threw that all right out the window. Who in their right mind would do that?

I love how kind Data is to everyone around him. Like, yeah, his ethics programming prevents him from doing anything to harm anyone, but no one is making him say “good for you!” to Wesley after he tells him about the prank he pulled on a classmate. That programming doesn’t force him to call out a trader on his rude behavior towards Kamala in The Perfect Mate. He always laughs at his friends’ jokes, and even if they don’t sound natural, they are the most sincere laughs I’ve ever heard. In Hero’s Worship he could have left Timothy alone after he rescued him, but even before Deanna asked him to stick around, he let this poor traumatized boy hold his hand in the sick bay while Dr. Crusher performed his checkup. In Pen Pals, he beams down to the planets surface to rescue the little girl who was communicating with him, brought her back to the ship against orders, and kept her from getting scared while she was there. He didn’t have any logical reason to do any of these things. They weren’t part of his programming. He makes a conscious effort to ensure others are comfortable and safe before he thinks of himself, and I adore him for that

I find it objectively hilarious that it was revealed that data literally glows in geordi’s eyes, and this was pretty much never brought up again. the symbolism in this statement, how light is associated with innate good, and as such, how geordi sees more in data than most around him, and especially how geordi just assumes that everyone else around him sees data just as extraordinarily as he does, how fucking gay is that and they tossed that away. It boggles my mind

Star Trek: Picard – Original Actor returns in a completely new role
Warning, spoilers for Star Trek: Picard: Trekkies can't help grinning. In the latest episode of Star Trek: Picard Jean-Luc and his crew finally reach the planet of the synth. In doing so, they encounter a face that is too familiar. Brent Spiner returns to Star Trek again. This time, however, not as Commander Data.
Star Trek: Picard – Who is Dr. Altan Soong?
After this nostalgic reunion with data Star Trek: Picard returns to Brent Spiner shortly before the season finale in the episode Et in Arcadia Ego 1. This time without makeup, but as a human scientist Dr. Altan Soong.

Brent Spiner in Star Trek: Picard
Because we learn that Bruce Maddox was not the only cyberneticist on the planet Coppelius Dr. Noonian Soong continued research on synthetic life forms. Noonian's son Altan Inigo is also committed to cybernetics and is now the only person living in the middle of the androids on Soyis (Isa Briones) Home planet.
Brent Spiner already played 6 roles in the Star Trek universe: the legendary scientist Noonian Soong, his ancestor Arik Soong and Noonian's android creations Data, B-4 and Lore. In a way, Altan Soong can now be called the brother of Data.
As a reminder, here is a list of all the characters from The Next Generation that have appeared in Star Trek: Picard so far:
Of the series Star Trek: Voyager spaceship returned Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) and Icheb back. So far there have been no guest appearances from the series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Podcast for sci-fi fans: the best sci-fi series on Netflix
In the new episode Stream rush – also with Spotify – Andrea, Esther and Max recommend the best sci-fi series on Netflix and see if the fresh 2nd season of Altered Carbon is one of them:
Altered Carbon started the first season at Netflix 2 years ago and surprised with extraordinary science fiction, which we will discuss in detail in the podcast. Season 2, on the other hand, has to struggle with some problems.
Were you happy to see Brent Spiner again?
