Hi ssreeder, this isn't really a question, and I have never used tumblr before, so I'm still getting used to it... but I made an account because I wanted to let you know that I've been reading the LIAB series. I'm finishing the last chapter in book 2 tonight, and I'm so excited to start the final book. I've laughed, I've cried, I've yelled at my phone when Ara and Jet made me want to rip out my hair (*sighs* good times). But, seriously, thank you for putting this series out for us to enjoy. I believe this is one the longest stories I've read ( the longest would probably be Crimson Rivers). And I'm excited to see to where you take us with your story.

Wait sorry movie Cole’s identity reveal? Will there be repercussions about that?

OHOHO you bet! Garmadon's generals didn't recognize him at all, but there is some shaky civilian phone camera footage of Ghost-possessed-Cole fighting them all off, and the Ninjago City Internet pretty much just explodes from there with all sorts of weird theories. And the movie ninja aren't even in Movie Ninjago while all this goes down!

Some more details vaguely in order:

Cole gets doxxed approximately three hours after the footage goes up. The news straight up says this minor's full legal name and everything—Lou is on the phone yelling at them for that for about an hour (he is going to sue and he is going to WIN)

Chen and the other cheerleaders all chilling together trying to process one of Garmadork's Garmalosers being a member of the Secret Ninja Force. They get so close to realizing that the rest of Lloyd's group is the SNF—one of the cheerleaders even suggests the idea before they all turn it down. They were SO CLOSE

The theory that the cheerleaders/other kids at school come up with? Cole's only friends with Lloyd's group because it's the perfect cover, and to spy on Garmadon through Lloyd. Yeah, that's right, the answer is right there in front of them but the hateboner for Lloyd is so strong that nobody can see the forest for the trees here. The theory goes up online and most of the city accepts it wholesale.

Well, most of the city. Koko and the other parents realize pretty quickly that if Cole is the Earth Ninja, then their kids fit perfectly as the others. And remember, all six of those kids are currently missing due to being stuck in showverse! Garmadon's volcano may not survive Lady IronDragon's wrath

Speaking of Garmadon! He was not expecting the ninja to be high school students! He is about to have the worst week of his life, starting with the news going on about how this high schooler is his son's friend (but his son is bald and has no teeth, he's pretty sure... does he need to call Koko? no wait she's already here—WAIT SHE'S ALREADY HERE????). Between no ninjnerds showing up to fight him when he invades the city again and Koko giving him hell until she realize he ALSO has no clue where Lloyd and the others are (and Wu fending off his attack), Garm is NOT having a good time.

Koko, in full Lady IronDragon regalia: WHERE IS OUR SON Garmadon, clutching his bowl of cereal:

When Koko realizes Garm genuinely has no clue where their son is, she turns to Wu. And how does Wu explain that he a) trained his nephew and his nephew's friends in ninjitsu so that they could act as the city's heroes and b) they all disappeared into what might have been a portal and he's not entirely sure where they are? By playing his flute, of course. Koko punches him.

Between all of this there are still tons of theories about what the fuck Ghost was/is and why there was a glowing green ghostly guy hovering by and then jumping into m!Cole in that shaky civilian phone camera footage. And plenty more speculation as to how and why the Earth Ninja was suddenly able to tear chunks out of the pavement and make the earth shake a little. Yes it should be obvious but. Well. The internet's gonna internet.

And again, the movie ninja are not there when all of this is going down. Their parents are looking for them, Wu is looking for them, Koko tears up Garm's volcano and then joins Wu in tearing up all his research on portals looking for them—to seemingly no avail. The whole city being weird and invasive about Cole following the identity reveal doesn't help.

When the movie ninja finally do return we get this interaction:

tl;dr cole got outed bc footage of him fighting off garm's generals while possessed was uploaded online and then picked up by the news, but bc the city hates lloyd garmadon so much pretty much everyone but the parents fail to realize who the other ninja are. bc it's funny

To start off, I’m such a big fan of your writing! I genuinely look forward to every single update of yours and find myself rereading a lot of work in the downtime. You are such a good writer!! My never ending praises aside, here are some asks!

-You incorporate OC’s into your fics so seamlessly! They feel so natural in your fics that I legit get excited anytime they show up (srsly can’t wait for Lou Jitsu vs Hidden City, Sal’s my boy) lol how do you find the right balance when introducing and maintaining OC’s in your fics? I feel like that’s a particularly difficult balance beam to tread but you absolutely crush it.

-A previous ask you answered about Cass and Raph in LSoW got me thinking; how do the brothers handle humans crushing on them? Would they be receptive or dismissive? Do they develop crushes on humans- and if so, how is that perceived (by family or the general public)? The drama 👀

Omg thanks so much... I'm so happy people enjoy my writing it's crazy to me. I've written before, but it's always been just for myself so I never really know if it was good or not. (Years of text based DnD is to thank lol.) (Okay I got carried away answering this so sorry in advance.)

On OC's:

I got a lot of comments on LSoW from people who say "generally I don't like OC's BUT-" which is so funny and flattering. Because I am absolutely one of those people who don't care for OC's in fic.

Let me be clear: I LOVE that people write self indulgent self-insert of OC based fic, where they make the craziest off the wall story etc. Every time a fifteen year old writes a story about the cringiest Mary-sue/stu self insert, or non canon character, an angel gets its wings and I mean that one hundred percent. It makes me so happy I literally grin when I see it. I HOWEVER generally filter out the OC tags on AO3 when I'm looking for something to read myself.

So when I started posting LSoW I was expecting to get maybe like, 100 kudos MAX, maybe one comment or so. Which is great! I love writing niche fic just for me, and one other person who I assume I must be drift compatible with. I just could not figure out a way to write the story I wanted without a few OC's- Rise didn't have a big enough character catalog for me to draw from!

When I went to write the OC's, I knew that they had to have a very simple backstory, that was also very fleshed out. (Xander and Sal have full family, Dr. Heo and Carter have full jobs and history together, etc.) For another contradiction I wanted them to be interesting enough that someone reading wouldn't just be skipping ahead to when they weren't present, or just simply plowing through to get past the part where they were doing exposition. They had to be enjoyable! While also forwarding the story!

They also had to be distinct. Anyone who's ever watched a Whedon show or movie (Buffy, Firefly, Avengers-) knows what I'm talking about. It drives me nuts when the characters in a show are constantly the funniest person in the room, with the same personality traits, and the same girl boss/badass tendencies.

(Fandom challenge Impossible: Give a female fan favorite character another trait besides 'girlboss/mom/lesbian'. I'm dead serious.)

(Also a disclaimer: I LOVE making jokes and doing bits. I FANCY that I'm pretty funny, and I love making people laugh. But you can do that without making it a character personality trait. For example: Xander doesn't really crack any jokes in LSoW! He's just funny because we the reader know more about the situation and his thoughts than he does.)

But the BIGGEST THING I kept telling myself while writing the story, was DO NOT TAKE AWAY FROM THE TURTLES. Because the whole point of the story is the turtles! And Yoshi! The OC's are there to facilitate that. It's a hard balance to hit. I have all sorts of touchstones I keep in mind while I'm writing, and that's a big one.

(A SUPER good example of this done super well is @faiakishi 's Bella from Dawning of the Hour. She's a great OC that's super interesting, and a super important narrative element, but she never detracts from the main story. Big Bella fan here lmao. There's also the rest of the OC's/interpretations of franchise characters (TIGERCLAW), but Bella stands out as truly original.)

On the Turtles dating Humans:

(CW: CSA mention, SA mention, non graphic talk of minors dating etc.)

I actually talked a lot about this to @/tangledinink in feverish discord chats lmao.

When the boys were growing up they got a very detailed talk from both Yoshi, and their Doctors. ONE: Because nobody will know better than themselves if something was medically wrong with their bodies, TWO: The boys are all intersex (minus Mikey) and they had to understand that there was nothing wrong with them on TOP of the turtle thing, and THREE: Because Yoshi knew the boys would be getting a lot of attention, and you never know what kind of attention that form will take.

THE BEST WAY to protect children (any child) from being sexually assaulted or abused, is making sure they know what that abuse LOOKS LIKE. You don't have to make them terrified of being sexually assaulted, but them knowing how their body works, and also how to say NO and set boundaries, will combine to help make them safer.

Yoshi didn't know what would happen in the future and in a perfect world the boys would never leave his line of sight, but that's not always how things happen. (In a Short Season, Xander parroted Yoshi's instructions before going out to make sure the boys knew what to do if someone grabbed them (in any way) and it was to bite and be loud.) So the boys grew up knowing their bodies, knowing how to say 'no', and knowing that there was probably going to be people out there who would treat them as a novelty, and who wouldn't be appropriate to them as celebrities OR non-humans.

(Remember Emma Watson having to deal with that countdown to her turning 18? Or any other amount of child stars who had to deal with adults being predatory to them.)

But ALSO THIS IS HAMATO YOSHI. His sons are HANDSOME and HEARTBREAKERS! Leo has dated a lot but never anything seriously, and his inability to be intimate with anyone but family kind of puts a damper on any more permanent relationship. (He is gay.) He's the number one turtle people ask out because he's the most approachable. Because he made himself that way!

Donnie is in a sort of relationship with Kendra. (THIS WILL BE A FIC I'm working up to it lmao.) I have a head canon that Yokai and other empyrean based creatures are capable of having rivalry based relationships. IE Yoshi and Draxum in the canon show, the unhealthy dynamic between Yoshi and Big Mama, etc. (Caliginous relationship) Donnie is in a puppy love version of that with Kendra, while also lacking the context of yokai society to understand why he wants to punch her very badly, but also if anything happened to her he would die. They hate each others guts and also she was his first kiss. She is not a nice person I am not a Kendra apologist she's terrible I love her. (Donnie is bi!)

I know a lot of people head canon Mikey as ace, but he is a thirteen year old child you don't have to be head canoning him as anything. it is the very rare 13 year old who knows their orientation, and even if they DO I bet you donuts to dollars it will change eventually. This is normal and healthy. Mikey in LSoW has had puppy crushes on boys, girls, teachers, Violet, the mailman, Adam, and Rupert Swaggert. (Eugh eugh eugh.)

Raph is absolutely irresistible to the entire student body and is completely unaware of it. He's not stupid but he's face blind and bad at picking up subtext in conversations. He's gone to multiple people's houses and spent the whole day with them, without realizing they were trying to make it a date. (Raph is bi.)

All the boys have considered identifying as girls since their Dad is the martial arts equivalent of David Bowie and Fine With That, but have settled (for now) on being boys (age 10 the last time they considered this) because quote 'Lou Jitsu and Jupiter Jim are boys and they're awesome' unquote.

They don't get any fucking privacy for their relationships, and Leo in particular had a very bad experience that closed him off from dating big time. (Stamps 'THIS WILL BE A FIC' on this as well.) But also, as of the LSoW canon they are like, 12-14 and not doing a lot of dating ANYWAY. They are BABIES.

ON CROSSOVERS:

I have one crossover with my white whale of authors (you know who you are) I have pecked at with them that I think everyone will go fucking nuts for and love, but I won't mention it in case we can't get it off the ground! (A completely okay and normal thing to happen lmao.) I think that one will end up happening though because I am too excited about it, even if it's not any time soon.

I am super open to crossovers and cowriting, especially since writing with Li because I learned SO MUCH it was like speed running improvement.

The thing is it has to fit! There's some crossovers that wouldn't have a lot of substance because there's not really a lot to cover. When it came to EiL for example, there was PLENTY to cover and do, it was so fun! But other fics might not have a lot we could do for each other. (At least, not until I get some more world building done.)

That being said I do love talking crossovers with other creators it's so fun...

b. It's also known that some characters have WEIRD connections to others, such as Quigley's 'relation' to Mr Poe.

THEORY: Given a. and b. to be true, Mr R _______ Remora, has some abstract connection to the Duchess.

This connection can only really be established if one goes by Netflix canon and assumes Nero's surname to be Feint, and combines this with ATWQ:

Duchess R is Remora's boss' ancestor's murderer's friend.

R's friend is Lemony, who murdered Hangfire, who is the ancestor of Nero, Remora's boss.

Least Favorite Thing About Them: How the writers of the 2015 ABC series the muppets. made him a paranoid conspiracy theorist and a machista who was so posessively jealous of Janice that he got into a ridiculous fight with Dr. Teeth because he didn't told that he used to date Janice before she even met Floyd.

Unpopular Opinion: I feel that Floyd Pepper is the one who should be considered the leader of the Electric Mayhem band instead of Dr. Teeth, because he is the one who would take steps in making professional demands to Kermit and the person who has the hardest job of the band: to keep Animal in line.

Why are rain frogs so round? What's /inside/ of them around such an itty bitty skeleton?

So it turns out this is a really interesting question.

The first thing we must be aware of is that rainfrogs as we see them in videos of them squeaking are not quite the same shape as they are when at rest:

But you are quite right, they are very round. This is exemplified by the skeletal photo you refer to:

So what are we seeing?

Well, firstly, note that the body cavity in these frogs actually envelops the femurs, such that only the tibiofibula (fused in frogs) and the tarsals and metatarsals are outside the body. The arms are quite similarly enveloped, but a bit of the humerus does extend outside the body cavity too. This predisposes them to a rounder body shape.

Next, note the ilia - the U-shaped bone in the pelvic region. These in some breviceptid frogs are synostotically fused with the sacrum - that is to say, they are bound by bone-based connections to the bow-shaped vertebra at their tips. This whole joint seems to be quite smooth, and as a consequence, the back of the frog is quite smooth. The other thing we can see here is that the urostyle (i.e. the frog version of a coccyx) juts quite far beyond the ischium and pubis. This extends the body cavity beyond the hips. Note also that the pelvic girdle seems to be largely below the spine, rather than the typical position for frogs behind it and continuous with it. This makes the legs sit below the spine, rather than at its end, enhnacing the vertical roundness of the animal.

Next, let’s talk some soft tissue. Now, I’m not as familiar with soft-tissue in frogs as I am their skeletons, so you’ll have to bear with me a bit (rawr). Beddard (1908!!) studied the soft tissue of Breviceps verrucosus Rapp 1842. It seems that the majority of the body of these frogs is actually muscle. Beddard noted that muscles join the leg at the knee that extend into the body cavity, such that the inclusion of the thigh in the body cavity is further accentuated by musculature. The rectus abdominalis muscle is unusually large, extending from the lower abdomen up and around the sides of the body. Indeed, this large size appears to be the pattern with all of the major muscles, though in the throat the typical arrangement of large and small muscles is somewhat reversed. On the lateral side of the head, there is a substance that is not muscle, but appears to be loose tissue in which sits what is apparently the thymus gland.

There is a very large gap between the end of the urostyle and the anus (one fifth of the total length of the frog), in which there are almost no muscles, save for the one surrounding the lower cloaca. On either side of this area, between the posterior-most muscles of the thigh, lie two large ‘lymph-hearts’, as described by Beddard. These are between one quarter and one third of the total length of the frog. A further lypmh-sac sits between these lymph-hearts and the skin of the femoral region, and they are thus probably analogous to the femoral lymph-sacs of other frogs.

I find it interesting that Beddard (1908) did not mention any glandular formations in the dorsal region. As is evidence from many images (see below), these frogs are able to secrete a white, sticky, noxious substance from their skin (which they actually have to use during amplexus, as the male is too small relative to the female to mount her properly, and so he sticks himself to her with his glandular glue… kinky).

These glands do not apparently take up a great deal of the cutaneous tissue, and so I suppose are of no consequence to the size of the frog, especially relative to its enormous muscles.

The diet of these frogs consists almost exclusively of hymenopterans and isopterans (ants and termites). Neither of these insect groups are particularly fatty, so it is little surprise that their bodies appear to contain no large fat deposits - fatty bodies extend from the gonads up to the lungs and heart, but these comprise only a tiny fraction of the frog’s mass, and don’t contribute to the round shape. Instead, their bodies are extremely muscular, allowing them to be adept burrowers, ideal for their fossorial lifestyle.

So TL;DR: rain frogs are little balls of muscle (maybe the largest muscle mass relative to body mass of any vertebrate? science just doesn’t know).

Where's that she's we get that she's like this Max she doesn't like them but the investigation is beginning and we have information on them too and we know what Gary Debussy was up to and we're going to put it down here right now he was running around for a few years behind him in California and he was causing problems that led up to the surgery certain diet and things he was enforcing and he couldn't do it completely so the guy did it anyways son he injured our son by hand and we are doing him away but he was a surgeon and John remillard blamed himself just kept saying it was him so Gary Debussy went after John remillard and John remillard knew he would and he didn't get much and he got pummeled and it looks like he was getting a few in when they look like each other and it was a nightmare cuz this guy can't figure it out he knows about now that he lost that battle and put our son in Jeopardy for no reason no Gary Debussy did and he caused the accident he helped cause the accident and it was the dirt bike of Daniel and they said a little big guy it's not a big guy and Daniel says it wasn't my fault and it really wasn't and he looked around and he says what am I going to do in a sentence we're going to concentrate on getting out of here and he said oh I have a sense of it so they made a point of showing me people looks like you I understand what you're doing though and he says oh we have to get out of here they were gassing his people and it was the max oh and they're doing it on the base and Daniel can talk to Trump. Peggy Hilliard Nabors, 88, died peacefully in her sleep on July 10, 2023.

Peggy was born to Price and Annie Lou Hilliard in Raleigh, North Carolina. Upon graduating from Bob Jones University, she began teaching high school in Portsmouth, Virginia. One Sunday morning a tall, handsome visitor walked into church carrying a Bible. Peggy and her roommate invited this young Tennessean to their apartment for a home cooked meal. That lunch must have been good, because Peggy cooked for David for the next 49 years.

After moving to Chattanooga as a newlywed, Peggy taught at Lakeside Elementary until she retired from teaching to be a stay-at-home mother. When David retired, together they traveled and lived in Eastern Europe to share the good news of Jesus with teachers through the International School Project. Following David's death, Peggy stayed active spending time with family, friends and neighbors. She was involved at her church, North Shore Fellowship, mentoring young moms. Her Thursday morning Ladies' Bible Study was the highlight of her week…studying God's word with precious friends.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David Nabors, and sister Virginia Sue Jones. She is survived by her children: Robbin Henon (Kirk), Stephen Nabors (Billenda), and Joseph Nabors (Marti). Grandchildren: Teal Nabors Gibson (Zane), Dr. Macall Nabors Wirz (Jacob), Kai Nabors, Blake Sparks, Patrick Sparks (Mariana), Amber Barnes (Josh), Audra Guerrero (Keith Franzen), and Andrew Guerrero. Great grandchildren: Hutch Gibson, Ivan Sparks, Patrick Sparks, Addie Sparks, Emma Sparks, Jensen Barnes, Hazel Barnes and Lotus Guerrero. Sisters-in-law Aprille Quinn, Jo Pelham, and a bevy of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 22, 2023 in the funeral home chapel of Hamilton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, July 21, 2023 and from 9:30 am until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Mary Ellen Locher Foundation (melfoundation.org) or North Shore Fellowship (nsfellowship.org)
