I’m more than happy to give you some headcanons about Shadow and Maria’s birthday!

Since Shadow didn’t necessarily have a birth, Maria has come up with possible days for Shadow to celebrate. There’s the day that he fully emerged from the meteorite, the day that he left his bio-chamber, and the day that they’ve met. Maria leans more to the day that they’ve met due to celebrate the birth of their friendship.

One of the friendship bracelet that Maria wears is one that Shadow has made for her. It took multiple attempts to make, as well as a slew of swear words trying to figure a pattern and the size of her wrist. He wanted to surprise her, but needed help with the knot. She never once took it off.

For one birthday, Maria gifted him a collector’s set of Sherlock Holmes novels to read when/if he has downtime from testing. What she didn’t anticipate was that Shadow would read the entire collection in one night with a list of questions to ask her about the characters. That’s when she knew that he had a love for books and mysteries.

For one birthday, Maria had a wonderful idea for bake Shadow a chocolate cake in the bunker’s kitchens. She made sure that she could sneak in without anyone noticing her and create the delicious cake that she envisioned in her mind (it had all the bells and whistles with every candy topping on it and sparklers). Long story short, Maria is not allowed to bake in the kitchen by herself anymore. The kitchen cannot take anymore fires and holes through the ceiling.

Shadow, being very small and having no money, tried his best to make Maria a drawing for her birthday once year. He’s not very good at drawing, but he draws excellent box-y figures that represent the two of them. Maria’s favorite drawing that he’s made was the two of them together riding a dinosaur through New York City.

Maria loves to take photographs of the two of them on their birthdays. She takes a “healthy” amount of them from the hour of her waking up, to the highly blurry photos of Shadow trying to run away from the flash, and to them devouring cakes by themselves. Shadow is very fortunate that Maria did. He keeps the ones that he found in the crater close to his heart.

For Shadow’s birthday, Maria hoped to start the tradition of getting Shadow a jacket with a patch that correlates with the year that an album came out (due to his newfound love of music). He has three that Maria made herself for him to wear on a letterman jacket.

Since Shadow can’t leave the bunker. He gets discouraged over the idea of trying to find Maria something to give on her birthday. He wants to give her something to show his appreciation for her being a great friend and sister to him, but always struggles on what to do. That is… until he noticed one of the scientists making paper stars while he was in a testing session. He made multiple paper stars to put in a jar, plucked a quill out from his head, and gifted a jar of glowing stars for her to keep. “It’s so you can continue to make wishes,” as he said to her. (This also plays off the paper stars that Maria makes for Shadow whenever he’s feeling down).

Maria’s idea birthday cake is a replica of the melting cake from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty with different flavors of cake in each tier, as well as sparklers. Shadow is perfectly content with a box of Razzles (his favorite candy), but absolutely takes chocolate cakes. Although chocolate cupcakes and dirt cups are easy to steal and are a close second.

The best birthday that the two have ever had was when they’ve spent the day together in the blanket fort. The two watched movies and ate snacks, and created a bucket list of all of the places that they would have loved to travel to. While his list may have a few lines, he appreciates her three page list of all of the places and things to do. After awakening from stasis, Shadow makes sure to fulfill all of the things on her birthday bucket list. He makes sure to especially do a few on the day of her birth to celebrate her life lived.

“You've been on that thing forever, at this rate you’re likely to forget me soon.” Rin deadpanned, almost regretting buying that damned thing for you.

Almost.

He could see how happy it made you, especially now that when he got on the game with his friends, you weren’t completely lonely with your new switch lite.

Of course, Christmas was coming up but with being stuck in the house for days due to snow and not being able to make it to work, he knew the best solution for his dear girlfriend.

He watched carefully as you concentrated on digging perfect holes to place trees in, your face was definitely one to remember. He loved seeing your joy filled face as you explained the animal crossing terms to him, even though he'd probably forget half of them within the next hour.

"Uhh, nuh uh." you retorted, not even looking up at him from where he was standing. After Rintarou surprised you with an early Christmas present, even though the big day was less than a week away, you could not stop playing. It was like an excitement that was slowly becoming an addiction.

You took your nintendo lite with you everywhere, to the bathroom when taking long, relaxing baths, to the bar in the kitchen where you both eat breakfast.

And even so far as playing it in public during downtime if you both were able to leave the house. You loved every minute of your new game console, especially since it was in your favorite color too.

However, Suna had to draw some lines when you pulled an all-nighter playing your game because you 'just had to get something done'.

"I think it's mostly your fault though, you let me open it early, so." you trailed off, sticking your tongue out wherever you thought he was from your peripheral.

Your eyes stuck to your little character as she ran around the plaza trying to talk with every villager. You couldn’t help but to get so happy when you saw the Christmas decorations around your island. As well as hounding on your game for so long, day and night, you were able to make lots of progress.

You barely noticed that Suna sat down beside you on the king sized bed, his PS5 left on and if you really paid attention, you could hear his friends calling for him.

"Love, at least give me a kiss before you leave off into the island of Y/n." he joked, you tore your eyes away from the screen and started to feel bad in the way that you were ignoring your boyfriend.

"I'm sorry Rinnie, I just really love the game, but I'll be sure to take breaks and spend actual quality time with you." you promised, saving and putting your game console away.

The relief basically melted off of Suna, now he finally understands the other side of the story when he used to not pay enough attention to you when gaming.

"Thanks, love." he murmured, pressing a soft kiss to your lips, relishing in the fact that he could taste the leftover dark chocolate crumbs on your lips from when you snack as you play.

"You're such an angel, you know that right? My angel." he couldn't help the smile that broke out across his face when you laughed and rolled your eyes. You were such the purest sight ever to him, this is what he missed. Of course he loves when you have an enjoyable hobby but physical contact was so much better in his opinion.

"Want to ditch the games for the rest of the night and watch a Christmas movie with me?" you giggled into his black sweatshirt, it smelling of his fancy body wash that you gifted him as a 'just because' gift.

"Obviously, anything to spend more time with you love." he hopped up, turning off his own gaming console and sending a text to his group chat before lounging with you in bed.

After a small discussion on which streaming service, you both finally decided on Hulu to watch Elf.

As the movie played and the lights were dimmed in the bedroom, you got sentimental, watching Rintarou’s handsome features being lit up by the movie.

"You know, I'm really grateful for my gift. I love it." you said quietly, hiding your face even though you both have been together for almost four years now.

He squeezed you tighter to him, loving your small confession, his heart felt unbearably warm at the act.

"I'm glad love, only the best for you." he kissed your temple knowing that his small confession would ring true when he got the balls to get the ring box out of his sock drawer and pop the question.

But for now, he smiled and watched your reactions to the movie, wondering how he got so lucky.

DU DROW LORE ASK COMPILATION: COMPANIONS, ASTARION'S READING HABITS, AND HIS LONG-INQUIRED OPINIONS ABOUT BODILY WASTE REVEALED.

I don't think "discussed" is the right word, more so mocked her for her blind faith and got into brief spats. It was precisely Shadowheart's water-off-a-duck's-back attitude towards his remarks that kind ingratiated her to him - DU drow spoke his mind, she took it in stride and remained firm in her beliefs without arguing or trying to push it on him. That, alongside the fact that they are surprisingly similar people is what brought them together as friends.

Even long after the events of the game he's still opposed to her hopping from Shar to Selune, also. Shadowheart's attachment to religion is simply something they agree to disagree about.

BUT YES, he killed Lae'zel when she tried to murder suicide the camp and I went through the whole game without her. I didn't go to the creche either!

I have since had other runs and she's actually one of my favorite characters, I just haven't had the chance to draw her yet.

ACTUALLY - scratch that. I've drawn her once-

Somewhat! But not really. He genuinely just likes jewelry, and rings are the only kind that suit his life-style (necklaces and earrings are a hazard during fighting) this is a reference to his bhaalist days when he used to be completely covered in the stuff day and night.

Hence why he finds them comforting to have on in some way or another. They change around because he gets bored of/misplaces runs out of fingers to wear the new rings that he loots constantly.

I don't know if it's been made clear enough, but DU drow's love for Astarion is borderline pathological, LOL. He's got a good humor about things and Astarion is definitely no stranger to having little quips and jokes made at his expense (a few references to him being Pointy And Long here and there, for sure), but the guy overwhelmingly adores him and thinks he's always the prettiest girl at the ball, even when he gets in his face and his nose looks huge.

I'll be honest, Astarion strikes me as the kind of guy that has like, 3 really weird books he really enjoys and reads them again and again very slowly over the course of years. Otherwise, not really a reader, but I digress -

DU drow was probably never a big reader himself, I would say he got started on a couple of books back in the day but likely never finished any. He's fairly intelligent, but most of his downtime was spent managing the cult and parsing through relevant documentation.

I definitely don't think he'd have the attention-span for fiction (which I picture as being said books that Astarion enjoys) but he does like to snuggle up with his beau to watch him read - every once in a while he catches a particularly scandalous line or description and they bicker about it. He makes a remark, Astarion feels obligated to explain the context, it devolves into some playful kind of argument that ends with Astarion telling him to go dig a hole and die in it while playing with his hair - The usual LOL.

Oh man I have a few more in-dept descriptions of how that went, both lore-wise and just for me as the player - but in summary, DU drow was pretty mean to everyone earlier on in the game and he did catch onto Astarion's very obvious and obnoxious seduction attempts very clearly. He doesn't like being so desperately pursued and they actually got off on the extremely wrong foot because of it, LOL.

After being unpromptedly rejected at the tiefling party he was a little more enticed by him, basically the "no" was his "go". I like to think of it like Astarion catching onto the fact that his initial strategy wasn't working and that this man in particular needed him to play hard to get - from that point on, DU drow started playing along. DU knew this was still a game, but now they were playing it on even ground so he was fine with it.

First of all - he inexplicably got butt-ass naked for the event.

All in all he liked it a whole lot and it was his re-introduction to the concept of pain being dished out as a form of love and his deep enjoyment of it.

Dang it I had a pretty good write-up about his thoughts on Wyll from a long time ago, but I can't find it 😭

In summary, Wyll was a frustrating person for him to be around because of what he viewed to be a deeply ingrained naivete about the world. He shockingly didn't hate him (Wyll is kind of difficult to hate) but he never really saw him as an equal either, and definitely not as a friend. Du drow just desperately wanted him to express something that he would perceive as a genuine emotion; some kind of outburst or show of anger or frustration, but all he ever saw was someone trying to put on an act of performative heroism that he didn't buy at all.

At the same time, Wyll was far too young for him to be too mad. He might have held his father more accountable for making the guy into what he was than Wyll himself, really.

Can a man be scared of being scared? Because if so, it's that.

He also doesn't like shit a normal amount. (piss is fine depending on whose it is.)

hii! i was thinking, after seeing your who's-your-fav-clone post ,about who would be their darling's favorite & i just wanted to 2share my thoughts.

honeslty my fav has always been urogi and in real-life context, i would be drawn to think that he would be the best yandere choice. like, he is the embodiment of positive emotions; everyone would like that, right? he fluffs up when he sees you, is happy to keep you company and loyal to his bird-like side, whenever he would see some shiny piece of something, let it be a jewel or radom metal or anything he likes, really, he would bring it to you and offer it as a mating gift^_^ so everything's perfect, right?

wrong😖 i mean all of the things above r still true, but urogi can get super overwhelming and your drawings + the you-mention-a-new-name post lowk highk made me scared of himm LMAOO like he is just so menacing, his devotion and love feel just super threatening no matter how sweet he tries to appear.

then, maybe the most gentle one, aizetsu? 🙅 nuh-uh, no. i actually really love your aizetsu cs i never thought about him in like this passive-aggressive manipulative/victim-complex toxic boyfriend light but it just fits him soo much! out of all the 4, he'd probably b the most emotionally drainig to be around.

sekido doesn't seem like a bad option too, if you put aside his bad temper... meaning, putting all of him aside lol. i mean, he seems like a guy who's dealing for the first time with very intense romantic feelings and his first instinct is to raise his guard up at like maximum security level🙁 all of his worries and uttered love confessions come out the wrong way and it just makes his darling withdraw from him, wich makes him panick. he tries to 'make things right' only scaring them further. his darling doesn't want to see him, spending all of their time w the others and he eventually lashes out on them and his siblings. even though he's only trying to look out for everyone..

soo i really think karaku is the better option. hes just a chill guyTM who might or might not be trying to get under his darling's pants sometimes, but he's so carefree (convinced that they won't never ever manage to escape since everyone is always watching them 24/7) that he just kind of lets them do whatever. like yeah you wanna go out? sure. have fun. if their darling is coming to seek any of them for comfort, it would most likely be him.

3. aizetsu

4. and much to his dismay, sekido

All pros and cons you stated are pretty accurate but you missed Karaku's cons. Surprise, he also is awful like the rest! Yes, he does let you go out and about, but not without consequences. He does things that could get others (or you) hurt on purpose or to save you from problems (that he made) You probably won't get overwhelmed if the others are there to regulate everyone, so you'll be a semi regular couple. Harem?

Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing as the saying goes. Karaku is too carefree. He's too confident that you'll bounce back if wounded. He's too confident you'll still come back to him at the end of the day.

They're parts of a whole at the end of the day, they need each other so they dont make you lose your mind, and life. The worst of them can end up being your saviors and vise versa.

As for our special hedonist, Karaku likes to PORTRAY himself as a pretty relaxed guy, to you specifically. He's not too pushy unless he knows you won't be too put off by it. But that damn thrill seeker side.....

He gets bored easily and constantly seeking pleasure like an addict. How do you get the best hit? After a disaster, of course! A disaster he made since things can get pretty quiet without a push.

Karaku wants your praise and favor, but he's not going to ruin his image in front of you. (Un)Fortunately for him, he knows you aren't able to have your eyes on him 24/7. In that downtime, he can do whatever he wants, like causing disaster around you or others. Little things that snowball and have you calling them (specifically him) to "save" you.

It's a good day if all Karaku does is try seducing you.

Do you have any art advice to try to get better at art, to go along with "keep drawing to improve"

I do and I will do my best to convey it in a way that is actually comprehensible as I am a terrible teacher lol.

A SUPER important thing I started doing when I was very young to learn art was to mimic a drawing without tracing it to try to understand how it is composed while not just turning my brain off and tracing over lines. Like having a piece of art open right next to where you are trying to draw the exact same thing. While there is something to be learned from tracing, that well kinda dries up quick. I found this to work much better, especially as I had already learned to draw basic things on my own. People like to lump all tracing in with stealing art but like just be polite about it and credit the original artist if/when you post it! most people will be chill if you just ask first and are doing it to learn! (especially if youre not even postin it)

Another thing is to give yourself what I like to call "silly sketching time" in between constructive learning pieces. Just draw the most garbage, easy to draw, fun thing you can possibly think of! If it's work work work all the time you're gonna burn out! but not drawing at all during downtime can be detrimental too. Just let yourself be silly with it!

Final big piece of advice for now is learn from things you LIKE. sure standard stuff like anatomy and perspective and geometry are important, but you can also learn those things WHILE drawing the stuff you're actually interested in!! try to understand how your favorite thing is constructed and learn techniques by drawing inspiration from it!

Hobbies of the fellowship (+Faramir)

Aragorn:

-Whittling

-He has a lot of downtime during his time as a ranger

-And he is surrounded by sticks and stuff and was probably already fiddling with a knife

-He often doesn’t take the little animals he makes with him so he either gives them to kids in a village he is near, or just leaves them around for someone to find

-I can also imagine him keeping a guitar with him so he can play around a fire at night during his travels

-A very humble player but also not shy about playing or singing if asked

Legolas:

-Anything physical really

-Climbing, swimming, gymnastics, etc

-He just needs to be moving

-He also has a habit of taking in orphaned or injured animals to nurse them back to health

-Would just have a squirrel in his pocket like Bob Ross

-His father has had to tell him multiple times that bunnies are not allowed on the dinner table

Gimli:

-He plays the flute

-Don’t ask how I know because no one will ever see him playing

-But he does

-He wants to find the most peaceful spot and just close his eyes for a little

-He’s a man who is always on the move so being able to take time to relax is always important to him

Some of the only real "twisted" characters that I actually have as part of my TWST cast, lmao. Meet the imp twins, twisted from Pain and Panic! They're part of a small "next generation" thing I've built with @dragon-simp, but I've become extremely attached to them lately after building them in TS4, so I couldn't resist drawing them and giving them some proper love.

Personality: Lupe is a little self-centered and prideful, so he usually doesn't think his actions or words through before he says or does something. He's the biggest cause of his own grief as he finds it difficult to apologize when he messes up or hurts someone he cares about. He's also a bit of a thrill-seeking daredevil, and either charges headfirst into things or is easily goaded into doing something stupid or dangerous in equal doses. This behavior pays off when he's playing games, however, as he'll find speedrunning tricks that nobody else thinks to consider due to the risk, odds, and luck involved in his skips. He considers himself a gourmand, and despite proclaiming to have high standards of food, he likes to eat anything and everything at least once. He has a seemingly bottomless appetite, and is often seen snacking on something, especially if he's doing something that requires extra focus and brainpower. His hardy appetite also gives him a great deal of energy and strength. He does video game livestreams regularly on the weekends, and wants to one day be famous. He frequently competes with his brother, Achos, over video games and menial tasks. The two of them will also argue and bicker, but are quick to put their differences aside if they have a shared enemy.

Note! I didnt know I could play something as chaotic and as fun as this game provided me. Its super fun and enjoyable and yet amidst the chaos I loved the characters that was shown and grown to get attached to them to a degree. Both Merlin and Adrian are mysterious and enigmatic in their own ways that makes me look forward to the story and how it progresses towards their character. Also seeing Adrian being exasperated over Cloudcuckolander MC's antics tickles my funny bones more than I can admit. I admit I was reluctant to get into the game seeing as its such a huge one, but after playing all I can say is MOAR! I NEED MOAARRRR! Okay, but hear me out: a fic where Ketheric meets someone at Moonrise—maybe a servant, a soldier, idk—and they just happen to look exactly like his dead wife. And of course, because Ketheric is completely stable and definitely not still grief stricken a million years later, things start getting weird real fast. Like, he just casually asks this poor soul to pretend to be Melodia during his downtime. Not for anything grand, mind you—just for the most random, mundane stuff.

Imagine Ketheric watching them brush their hair with Melodia’s brush, making them wear her clothes and jewelry—but only while they’re in her room, because apparently, that's where he draws the line. Then he’s sitting next to them while they read Melodia’s books or recite her favorite Selûnite prayers like it’s a totally normal Tuesday.

He starts correcting her. Every. Single. Time. Maybe her intonation’s just a little off, or she has the wrong accent, and suddenly Ketheric’s all upset because apparently that’s a dealbreaker in his undead-wife-reenactment fantasy. Meanwhile, this poor person is just stuck there, trying to appease him, because they’re all in on the Absolute and this half-elf general is basically the closest thing to their goddess. Like, what’re they gonna do, say no to the guy who’s practically their divine rep?

Maybe she doesn’t wear her hair the right way, or her nails aren’t painted the way Melodia’s were. She’s either too much of something or not enough of another, and Ketheric’s just stewing in his creepy, dead-wife-obsessed trauma, while this person is desperately trying not to screw up again.

And, naturally, this turns into a full-blown deranged obsession while the person slowly loses all sense of who they are because they’re too busy becoming Mrs. Dead Wife 2.0. The potential for some peak-level angst and overall unsettling vibes is immaculate. Someone please write this—or I will, just to stop it from haunting my brain.

i’ve had to block a few ppl in the enhypen tag like just #enhypen or #riki or #riki x reader . because of how much

noncon/dubcon riki stuff is in the predominately sfw tags.

i do not personally agree with that little community who writes sm-t for him bc all of them have this ego complex of “i’m just better bc i don’t care >:(“ no, you have a really irresponsible and immature mindset when it comes to conflict. just because you “don’t care” doesn’t make you a good person or better than people who tell you to c-t yourself or d-e. it’s even worse if you’re like “i know i’m not a good person >:)” like okaaaay joker go rob a bank or something then.

back to the point- it’s to the grey area of time now where you can’t really stop them now anyways because it’s down to personal preference and their comfort of writing for him that way whether it’s “morally correct” to me or anyone reading this or not.

the one hill i will die on though, is i do not fw dubcon or noncon. even if its written as a trauma response sharing it and pushing your idols or celebrities(riki or other idols) into that is extremely horrible. if you write it because of trauma- keep it to yourself, and that’s none of my business. people cope in different ways whether i agree with it or not. writing your favorite idols as r-pists or manipulators to get what they want s-ually is extremely messed up especially when posted onto a public platform in regular #(insert idol group) and predominantly not nsfw tags. it’s irresponsible and subjects a younger audience(especially on tumblr. ao3 is another mess but at least ao3 is primarily used by an older crowd) to being exposed to thinking intimate acts like that is normal, when its absolutely not. and you might think “who would think that? it’s writing!” the amount of times people have openly stated in the fanfiction community admitting that they have never had s-x but will just write what they’ve picked up on is insane. same argument that p—n ruins mental health and mental image of healthy relationships if exposed to watching and consuming that content for too long.

this is coming from someone who was r—ed. i think it’s extremely insensitive to push idols onto that whether it’s written as a trauma response to the action or not. you’re putting innocent people and writing them as r-pists. fiction or not that’s weird.

and if it’s not written as a trauma response, i don’t understand the smut dubcon/noncon community’s fascination of getting r-ped. it’s a terrible thing to happen and i don’t wish it on anyone. the ptsd from it and how unclean you feel is so gut wrenching and there’s nothing you can do about it. part of your life gets taken from you and you can never get it back. there is lifelong trauma after that. almost everyday i wish after it happened to me he just killed me so i wouldn’t have to live with it. i still get nightmares and it’s led to sh and other mental issues that i just have to deal with now. why is that a fantasy to people?

idk it just upsets me, i obviously block these people and move on from my life bc i have goldfish memory but there’s like five accounts that just kept popping up in the past week that i’ve had to block. i know some people might be like “oh you really showed them!!1!!1!” in an annoying way, but either way i stand by my point that it’s fucked up and i’m human so i’m allowed to get upset by it.

: ̗̀➛ Detroit 2038 - Me and my husband, Elijah, live together in a waterfront house on the outskirts of Detroit! From the outside you'd think it'd be much more... cold?.... than it actually is but I assure you, it's very homey! In the winter, a fire is more than likely going in the living room, and we have heated flooring. In the warmer months, I almost always have the windows open. There's lots of good natural lighting and the space is very open, it never feels too stuffy.

I'm a very big nature lover, so I always try to include it in any space I'm in. If you're in any room in our house you will most likely find a vase of flowers or some sort of flower pot somewhere. Pictures of friends, family, life events are scattered throughout rooms and hang on our hallway walls. A few art pieces stand in corners here and there, Elijah's touch.

Our kitchen is very nice, its probably my second favorite room and where I spend a lot of time working out recipes! 2 ovens, a bread proofing box, my pink stand mixer, etc. It has everything I need and more! Elijah made sure I got my dream kitchen. It also has an open layout so we can lookout to the living room & outside patio (very nice if we are hosting dinners with friends).

Since our house is on the water (like right on the Detroit river pretty much), we have a patio connecting to a dock. Its very calming to sit out there on a lounge chair and read. It also provides a very pretty view of the city at night! We have a small fire pit where we have "bonfire" nights and roast the occasional smore or two!

If I had to pick a favorite room it would be my craft room/office... Its one of the smaller rooms in the house (my choosing) so its quite cozy and it's decorated with knick-knacks/small trinkets I've collected over the years. There's a big window looking out to the river that I love to open in the warmer months which brings in a really nice breeze. My sewing machine, scrapbooking supplies, etc. are all in one place so I don't need to go scouring around the house for them. There is a big comfy bean bag in one corner if I decide to read or want to take a nap. I can also play my music as loud as I'd like without worrying I'm disrupting my husband if he's working in his home office. (not like he really cares either way)

: ̗̀➛ Gonna be so honest.... I'm only recently finding a good work-life balance so I'm just now starting to have more time for hobbies outside of baking/work. It's what I live and breathe pretty much so even if I'm not doing any actual baking, I may be working on cake designs or pastry ideas.

When I truly have downtime/force myself away from anything bakery related; I really enjoy playing chess, gardening, flower arranging, doing puzzles, ice skating, and scrapbooking!

I have multiple scrapbooks for different things. One is of friends, another of me & my husband, one filled with little things I find along my adventures... putting them together is very calming for me. I know there's new tech that can do something similar/store photos but it just feels so much nicer to be able to flip through something in your hands that you put together/created on your own... ya know?

I grew up ice skating and playing chess. My mother passed her love for both onto me and my sisters! I was a competitive figure skater for a few years but stopped and focused more on competitive chess once I reached high school. My love for puzzles came from my grandmother! We'd always do them together when I'd go to her house after school. The last one we completed together is hanging on the wall in my craft room.

Gardening & flower arranging just helps me feel more connected to nature. Technology is so intertwined with everything nowadays so it's nice to disconnect and ground myself by getting my hands deep in soil. I love having plants around my house, and even in my bakery so customers can enjoy them too!

Okay so... I used to be a crayon collector as one of the few expenses I had as a kid besides ponybeads for crafting that wasn't taking paper and tape to make paper dolls and boxes and scraps to make dioramas. That was when I lived with my parents and was struggling middle class. At some point my older brother went to college and I inherited his prismacolor collection from highschool. In highschool I'd supplement this collection with stolen stubs from art class that was thrown in a general tub for class projects. Most of the colors were reds, black, white, peach and brown tones, but I got a lilac and an imperial violet that you could never find in stores without buying a complete set again. I cherished those and still have them, here they are with a parma violet from bro's old set I widdled down over time in twenty years:

Every so often I'd be lucky to replace a pencil here and there, but the prices would jump up. Recessions and living check to rent moving out of parents meant no major set replacements for years. I made do, used my pencils in a way where I'd have to cycle through other colors to not rely on favorite tones too much. I'd wonder why none ever showed up at thrift stores like cheap color pencils and crayons tend to. I even stopped drawing for years because of the pressure of surviving tbh. I focused on learning to write and set down my visual ability because I just don't have a grasp at anatomy and the three dimension anyway and landscapes do use up a lot of color.

Eventually my brother was burned out, he was harrassed by our boss who tried to pit us against each other and legal stuff I don't want to get into here. We ended up back home at my parents to fight this asshole and retreat because our rent landlord also became unbearable, which is another story for another time. Back home my disability income didn't go up much and it went into paying expenses and no rainy day saving or escape money was possible and I ended up Pop's unpaid laborer when it came to home improvement crap. Brother tried to make other jobs work after losing his ten year stable job to work with asshole who preyed upon us, but couldn't keep them for various reasons on top of managing a toxic family life. He published a book (it started as a way to encourage me to go write when I was sitting at home wasting away between soul sucking house repairs) and did some editor freelancing afterwards. Needless to say one by one members of my family die, my mom in 2016, my oldest brother (who I haven't gotten into because he's why I left my family in the first place as soon as I could at 18) in 2020, my father (Pop) in 2023 and that is just immediate family, though my extended relatives aren't going to step in unless I denounce and detransition either. My future is uncertain.

My grandma can't take me in long without violating her rent conditions and she hides our cat among her own and hopes the other tenants make no fuss, my surviving brother is now in an estate dispute with my sister (another reason I needed to leave my family) who had brought a bunch of friends (more like people she thinks she can ingratiate to do things for her but are looking to rip her off), into father's house where they robbed whatever they could carry and stowaway and proceeded to trash the house... We never evict sister, but brother has to play bad guy to get her to get them out. There's a longer story in getting it put up for sale while we fix father's money pit he left us. The sale pays off what Pop owed on the remortgage and getting money pit some actual work put into it, but it's gutted with no floors, heating or and drywall everywhere and winter is fats approaching...

Meanwhile our surviving stuff was either incorporated into grandma's apartment or sitting unsecure on moneypit property. My prisma's and clay were at grandma's where I could occasionally have downtime to draw landscapes or character design for a book I'm too stressed to write on a laptop I can't access often. It is at this point my long distance boyfriend and cowriter on a long-winded fanfiction series and I couldn't maintain constant contact and we've not really been able to fix that since unfortunately. I have this phone prepaid a year in advanced to go crazy watching the news or some bullshit discourse on tumblr. I can see I'm going crazy, even my friend halfway around the world politely calls me out. My situation makes me wallow further in everyone else's I can't change, like a distraction because if I dare admit I'm living in chaos then I'd have to answer for myself and now I can't answer for myself why I can't help anyone else and the vicious circle.

One of the bleak things of existing without a consistent roof over your head is constantly 'shopping' to be somewhere because loitering is discouraged. Who can shop when you have no where to put your stuff? I'm often at the craft stores (Michael's and Joanne's but never Hobby Lobby fuck them), usually as an excuse to pick up yarn for my grandma, maybe I can replace a pencil here and there now that some money is coming in that isn't going towards the pit, my collection is over twenty years old and widdled down. I notice they never restock lilac and lavender, it is driving me crazy. All the sudden they stock amethyst and orchid, wtf? I go online to find out they discontinued them in 2022 because whatever they used to make the pigment they no longer have access too. I do however go down a rabbit hole of prismacolor's history, from being manufactured in the United States, to Berol in United Kingdom to Canada when I was growing up (where my old Sanford set comes from) to now being manufactured in Mexico under Newell. I find that there are plenty of discontinued colors through the years since it debuted in the 30s, but nobody has a definitive list or dates, just missing numbers, as each color has one. Also the quality has gotten more breakable over time which I can attest to. Also people at thrift stores purportedly throw them out unlike crayons which explains why I never see them in my hunts. Thanks... I'd have loved the stubs y'all. I use those!

Which brings me to last spring, we had gotten the final floors installed. Family friend who was helping with the moneypit comes back from vacation, undermines our plans to move grandma's furniture in. Grandma already put in her notice to move in with us. Friend's wife starts a huge fight. It comes out that this whole collaborative project was some game of chicken where they hoped we'd sink so much money in we'd panic and sell the house to them. They ghost. House isn't done, but is livable.

Meanwhile I've been on the search for lilac pencils (had to let lavender go because I at least have an intact one from before discontinuation) on ebay and etsy to no avail, overcharged or old pictures on new listing, color not guaranteed. I try alternative markets like mercari and other places, one of them is a website for dollmaking, where you can buy supplies and parts to make dolls. They have a lilac listing, we e-mail them, they can send it. We try another place, they get back to us in a rant about the discontinuation and being a small business being fucked over, etc. We get another e-mail back from a kid's art supply store, but we don't get back to them soon enough unfortunately because an overstock website claims to have 26 lilac pencils! We shoot our shot.

This all happens as we wait and wait to move ours and grandma's stuff into new place. I'm now the owner of 27 lilac prisma pencils:

In my research on Mexican manufacturing of prismacolor I find out that not only do they make the Premier that I buy and the Scholar (think similar to Crayola branded color pencils in terms of quality, I have some random ones), but they have a midgrade set they don't import us called Juniors for kids who want nicer but affordable pencils and they have a color called Lavanda and I found import listing on Amazon, but I don't buy them. Months later I am at an Ollie's over a county away and find these:
