Batman fun fact! Did you know that Scarecrow’s toxin doesn’t always cause fear? Sometimes it does the opposite! In Detective Comics #571, he wields a variant that completely inhibits the biochemical fear response, preventing people from feeling any concern for themselves or using basic common sense. He runs a racket administering it to star athletes, who take huge risks and get badly injured. Then they’re willing to cough up a lot for an antidote. Batman and Robin - here Jason Todd - catch on, but Bruce is dosed with the reverse fear toxin; since his intelligence is his greatest strength, being too overconfident and reckless to think twice about anything makes him his own worst enemy.
This premise was adapted in the Batman: The Animated Series episode “Never Fear”. There we see that with no fear of losing his moral integrity, Bruce becomes cold and merciless to criminals. Robin - here Tim Drake - has to catch somebody he leaves to fall off a building, tie him up to stop him endangering himself and others and give him the antidote to prevent him murdering Scarecrow.
But in the comic book, Jason is kidnapped by Scarecrow. He gets gassed and hallucinates Bruce dying and telling him that it’s his fault. He isn’t around to keep Bruce in check as he goes to rescue him through a series of death traps that he can’t resist cutting it as close as possible in. So how does Bruce not go off the deep end? How does he not lose sight of what’s important? Not lose himself?
Because even a drug designed to shut down stress at the most fundamental level can’t overpower his true worst fear. The Dark Knight might feel fearless…
but a parent never is.
#this whole issue is full of adorable jason content#at the beginning he’s really excited to be watching a car race for the case#he cries when he thinks bruce is dead and bruce comforts him#until then he has complete faith that bruce will survive all the death traps even under the influence of the drug#i’m so glad nothing as bad as bruce fears ever happens to him!#because as this adventure proves batman will always save robin#batman#bruce wayne#scarecrow#jonathan crane#robin#jason todd#robin jason#batdad#dc comics#dc#batman: the animated series#btas

SCAREDY CAT
KINKTOBER DAY 14 - PET PLAY WITH JONATHAN CRANE
Pairing.| Jonathan Crane x fem!reader
Summary.| You are Catwoman, you’ve heard word of Scarecrow’s fear toxin and want it for yourself. However he had already anticipated this and desired a kitten of his own.
Warnings.| Dubcon, p in v, head f!receving, rough sex. scratching, pet play (not extreme), stockholm syndrome, abduction, drugging, pet names.
Word Count.| 2.3k
Notes.| I really did have the most fun writing my Jonathan stories, I won't lie. But this one is for you my love, @paradiseprincesss
Jonathan huffed as he slammed the door behind him, He shook his damp, dark hair, droplets of rain sprinkling onto his clean floors and walls as he slid off his coat. After a long draining day at work, there was only one thing that could make him feel better. Relaxing with his kitten. But returning home always started off as a game of hide and seek.
As he called out your name, his voice echoed down the hall. There was never a blissful response from you. After taking off his shoes and neatly placing them by the door, Jonathan picked up his briefcase and wandered down the floorboards in search of you. Here, kitty kitty” Jonathan clicked his tongue as he dropped his suitcase on the kitchen table.
Poking his head around many rooms, he ended up in his office, smiling as he spotted you from the gap under his desk. Not wanting to frighten you, he called out your name calmingly. Turning the corner, he poked his head underneath his desk. A wide cheshire cat smile grew on his lips. “There you are kitten” Jonathan chuckled at you, his head tilted and blue eyes wide as he looked down at you.
Once upon a time, you were the infamous Catwoman of Gotham City. The rumors of a mad Doctor possessing an anxiogenic drug which induces intense irrational fear to its users felt too good to be true. In Gotham City, you had too many enemies. Getting your paws on that toxin would literally scare those enemies far away.
The plan was foolproof, break into his office and still a couple (or more) of doses. Arkham Asylum was a nuthouse, the Doctor would never have any time to reside in his office, surely. But, your accomplice ratted you out for an easy paycheck. Turns out that the Doctor of Fear admired your work immensely, and found joy in you wanting a taste of his fear toxin, so he obliged in that personally.
Jonathan kept you in a hidden room in the asylum for weeks, months even. His other patients lacked treatment on his behalf, because he was too obsessed with experimenting with you. However, when he’d return home after a long day, he found himself missing you. The big house he comfortingly slept alone in, suddenly felt empty. So, he trained you to act more domestically for him. This way he’d be able to focus on his other areas of work and feel the gleeful emotions of coming home.
Therefore, you were curled up into a ball up against the wooden boarding as you batted your glossy eyes at him. Wearing nothing more than a short black skirt, cropped white blouse and black collar with a clear jewel dangling from it. The heating wasn’t on so Jonathan pouted his sympathy for your coldness as your body shivered. He should have dressed you warmer for today.
With his hand out towards you, as if you call you towards him, Jonathan made kissy noises. Fingers rubbing together, Jonathan tilted his head forward, a warning for if he had to crawl under to get to you. Gradually, you got on all fours and crawled out from the desk.
“Let’s take your medication” Jonathan announced as he opened his arms for you.
Timidly, you reached out for him and he lifted you up, your legs wrapped around the small of his back as he carried you to the kitchen, your face nuzzled into the crook of his neck as he hummed in satisfaction. His hand rested just below your bare ass, Jonathan didn’t want you to ever wear panties.
Placing you on top of the island in the kitchen, he pulled a key out of his pocket for a locked hanging cabinet. He unlocked the door and retrieved a small white plastic pill container. To accompany your medicine, he grabbed a fresh water bottle from the fridge and cracked it open. Willingingly, you drank from the water bottle and slipped the blue pill into your mouth, swallowing it after a few seconds. Cautiously, Jonathan inspected your mouth, nodding his head with a wide grin of satisfaction afterwards.
He didn’t want to, but he had to keep you drugged up. Because one time you almost scratched his eyes out. The faint scar on his left cheekbone can prove that. Even though Jonathan admired your robustness, he couldn’t risk going to work with a clawed up face everyday. So, he produced a unique sedative mixed with a sliver of fear toxin to keep you physically delayed like a fat cat. But mentally on all four paws, just like a scaredy cat.
The variation of the fear toxin was intriguing however. Whenever Jonathan displayed negative emotions towards you, his figment would appear sinister. Yet, if he was warm towards you, the illusion of him would urge the thought of being looked after by him.
Jonathan looked at the cat bowl on the floor, still full of the food he filled it with this morning. Slowly his eyes turned back onto you and you hid your face in between your hands. His fingertips slipped underneath your collar as he pulled your neck closer to him.
“You haven’t eaten today, kitten?” Jonathan cocked an eyebrow at you, sighing softly in disappointment.
“The medicine rids my appetite” you mumbled, your voice hoarse due to a lack of speaking. Sniffling at him, you felt the fresh dose of fear toxin prick at your nerves.
“Bad kitty, what did I tell you?” Jonathan tutted towards you, his voice turned sinister as the toxin took effect.
“But it makes me feel sick” you whimpered back, blinking your prickling eyes at him.
“Because you haven’t eaten properly in days” he shot back harshly, his white fangs flaring at you. It was the toxin, but you always struggled to see the lining between real and illusion.
However, it was more so weeks, months, since the moment of your abduction really… This new accidental diet of yours has made you drop a fair amount of weight. The drugs suppress your appetite frequently, not that you were ever keen to be on all fours as you ate below him.
You tried to slip off the bench, a growing urge to satisfy him by forcing the food down your tightening throat. But Jonathan blocked you in between him with his arms.
“No, no… It’d be stale and sickening now. Gonna have to wait until dinner time kitten” Jonathan explained, his nose running up your neck slowly as he inhaled your scent.
Goosebumps populated over your cold skin. The sound of his breathing echoed down your eardrums as you closed your eyes. Gently, Jonathan kissed your jawline, casually making his way over to your soft lips. The kiss was passionate yet tender. Hesitantly, your arms wrapped around his upper back. When he didn’t react, you tightened the hold, exhaling in relief.
“Was thinking of just ordering something in, I can’t be bothered cooking tonight, it was such a stressful day kitten, work can be really draining sometimes” Jonathan spoke in between kisses.
Honestly, he didn’t have much of an appetite either. His hunger was craving you instead. With his hands running over your bare stomach, your ass slipped to the edge, legs wrapping around his stomach due to his shorter height.
“I can cook something for you” you offered in a shaking voice, your hands holding onto his upper body for support. Jonathan cocked an eyebrow to you and pushed the glasses up the bridge of his nose.
“Really? Oh that would be so kind of you, my good kitty” Jonathan complimented as he brushed your hair behind your ears.
You’d need his assistance, or at least to be watched over. He still didn’t trust you, especially with a knife in arms reach. But the thought of you willingly wanting to do something for him was sweet. Speaking of sweet-
“Let your owner feel your sweet pussy” Jonathan grumbled as bent over his body, hands cupping underneath your cheeks.
“Yes Jonathan” you sighed, propping your elbows behind you in support.
Jonathan bent his hip down as he admired your pussy, his own claws dug into your outer thighs. Firstly, he deeply breathed in your sweet scent. Then stubbornly, his tongue ran up and down your cunt. Jonathan was always too eager to eat you out. The skills and methods of his tongue could not be taught. This was pure talent which could never be duplicated. It was humiliating to admit that Jonathan was your best lover. The cocky bastard knew he was as well, no other man would even try to compete if they saw the movements of his tongue alone.
You never bothered to shy away from your moans. Jonathan told you from the beginning that you might as well make the best out of your new living conditions. Your nails scratched over the marble as you tried to find something to grip onto. Needily, your hands slipped into his dark locks, tugging roughly at his roots.
“You like this, yeah? Being taken care of by me?” Jonathan groaned against your cunt, his cock desperately twitching in his pants as his hips squirmed.
You quickly nodded your head to him, purring out your answer. But you whined out when his cold lips popped off of your dripping lips. His lean body raised up, already smirking at you as he unbuckled his belt. As you propped yourself back onto your elbows, Jonathan’s pants dropped to his knees, his boxers scrunched up at his mid thigh as he stroked his cock slowly. You’re pulled off the island and flipped around, your chest pressed into the cold marble as you stood on your tippy toes.
“Yeah… You love my big cock too don’t you?” Jonathan murmured as he lined up his throbbing length to your entrance.
“Yes Jonathan, I love your cock so much” you purred deeply.
With a cheeky grin, Jonathan pushed his tip inside of you. After a few seconds of smiling to yourselves, Jonathan pushed himself into your warmth, inch by inch. Biting at his lower lip, his hands rested on your lower back, ready to pound into you as if life depended on it.
When he did commence his rough thrusts, your arms snaked back to hold your hips up as your claves felt like they were on fire. Jonathan huffed and flipped you around once more. As you were pulled up by your thighs, you wrapped your calves around his lower back as yours was shoved into the edge of the bench. Hissing out, your hands slid up the back of his button up shirt. Your claws dug into his bare back, Jonathan snarled out, but the smile was euphoric. The sound of his balls slapping against your sensitive skin echoed throughout the kitchen. The both of you were panting as you felt your orgasm climb up your walls.
“Ugh! I’m so glad you broke into my office! Can’t believe the infamous catwoman fell into my arms. I couldn’t report you, no, no… They’d treat you like an animal” Jonathan whined out, his cock twitched in your velvet walls.
Being his little pet was a privilege, in his devilish blue eyes at least. He’d feed you (as if he’s drug wasn’t an issue), bathe you, cloth you (sort of), caress you and most importantly, fuck you. Everyday he’d make sure that you’d experience multiple orgasms. Because his kitten deserved the finest life.
All you had to do was, well, act like a cat for the most part. Yes, there were times where he would allow your humanity to show by walking on two feet, or eating at the dining table. And gosh, he'd never by a bag of cat litter for you. But Jonathan wanted you to stick to your alter ego. Some days he’d let you wear your mask, just to remind you of your past. My, sometimes he'd even wear his own mask too to really get into the scene of it all. It was tormenting however, it made you want to search for a way out of this prison. But you knew the consequences of that by now. If you were disobedient, he’d discipline you, more humanly though. A proper spanking always got his point across.
Jonathan liked to have you sleep at the end of his bed every night. On some nights -if he was feeling rather generous- he’d allow you to crawl up and sleep on his chest. The sound of his heartbeat easily got you to sleep. He’d often wake up to you purring against his chest.
Yes, being Jonathan’s kitten wasn’t your worst outcome. It was thoughtful of him, to indulge in your past life. It was much better than being one of his patients in Arkham, that's for sure. Gotham City was a fearful city, he was just protecting you from the many dangers at the end of the day. You were his to protect now, to love and own.
That mind of his was ingenious, he always knew how to time it for you both to finish in unison. Jonathan moaned out as his ropes of white shot deep into your canal, his head fell against your neck as he suckled at your heated skin. You held onto him for dear life, feeling the aftermath waves of pleasure from your own orgasm. The fresh claw marks would add to the personal art piece of your creativity. But Jonathan loved it, his back and his chest were the only areas he gave you permission to mark.
As Jonathan took in a deep breath, he lifted his head from the crook of your neck and lowered you to your feet. Jonathan smiled down at you as he readjusted his glasses, lenses all foggy from your activity. You nuzzled your nose against his face, a soft smile on your lips.
“Come on then kitty, make us a lovely meal before I get hungry for you again” he purred by your ear.

happy 4/20 here's some headcanons about the shit bugs used to get elevated
Alcohol: good 'ol alcohol. Found everywhere in every tribe of Hallownest, brewed in pretty much every way possible. Unregulated in trade by pretty much all tribes except for the stuff the Pale King consumes, which is often strong enough to give an entire room alcohol poisoning (wyrms are resistant to pretty much all toxins). Even the Hive have fermented honey and nectar, though they are much stricter about who indulges; it's more often exported for trade than consumed. Among the tribes, limitations only exist among the beetles and mantises, as both have violent tendencies and are liable to pick a fight when drunk; mantises regulate it to festivals and mating season, when sparring is likely to happen anyways, while drunk beetles outside homes and bars are often picked up and stuffed into trash cans to sober them up (and hopefully teach them a lesson in the meanwhile)
Gulka venom: an intoxicating substance with mildly hallucinogenic effects. Unregulated in trade, though that's mostly because there is no trade- the Mosskin refuse to collect it for other tribes, going out of their way only for the snail shamans (who are herb-masters with great healing knowledge) You'll have to harvest it yourself if you want to indulge, and that means there's a bit of a black market for it in Hallownest
Shamanistic Death-Herbs: a blend of relatively common herbs that, when dried together in a certain way, creates an extremely toxic blend if consumed or inhaled (when burned). Typically used to give those suffering a peaceful, painless death, it has powerful hallucinogenic effect under its killing threshold, and is one of the few toxins that can affect void creatures in any way (it puts them to sleep/makes them high). The fear of the void worshipers using them in battle against her moths was one of the excuses the Radiance used for her genocide against the snail tribe, though the shamans themselves have strict oaths to use them only for healing, and have never broken those oaths or used them against another tribe (at least, as far as the few who remember the age of dark can recall)
Bitterroot: an anti-contraceptive and abortion drug that can have an intoxicating-but dangerous- effect if too much of it is chewed. Grows primarily in the Crossroad region, and is heavily regulated in Hallownest- it is easily attainable and available to all, but herbalists are required by law to cut it and sell it in specific portion sizes for different species of bug, to prevent fatalistic overdosing. Tribes with overlap of the growing range tend to follow this rule, though it is not as strictly monitored as in the City (where many different species of bugs congregate, and thus require different doses to be effective)
Lifeblood: A life-boosting substance with magical roots that invigorates the self, at the risk of overestimating limitations and causing irreversible harm to the body when infused with it. This risk, while minimal with supervision, was what the Pale King used as an excuse to ban it, when in reality the main reason for the ban is because it is directly tied to an unascended abyssal god (the Lifeblood creature). Pretty heavily regulated in the Pale King's realm, but is used pretty regularly outside of his lands because nobody outside the most religious of the Beetle Tribe gives a shit
Brightpede poison: an extremely bitter, cyanide-based toxin that, like the death-herbs, can get one high if consumed in extremely small amounts. Secreted by pink and yellow-banded millipedes in the Deepnest region, used most commonly to kill political enemies or ease the passing of mortally wounded individuals. Harmlessly intoxicating to wyrms and their kin
Smokeweed: marijuana. It grows pretty much everywhere in Hallownest where greenery thrives, and is used both recreationally and medicinally, though the extent of it varies from culture to culture. Among the mantises, it's reserved only for strong warriors, to ease pain, battle-rage, and battle-lust. In the City of Tears, use is limited to smokehouses to prevent air contamination in close quarters, but is perfectly legal in private quarters, cheap to buy, and is typically recreational or therapeutic (there is, however, more variation in strains and expensive variants available to those of higher social rank, with the blooms grown in the White Lady's gardens going for the highest). In Deepnest, it's technically limited from the working castes to prevent injury, but is allowed during times of leisure and is unlimited to the injured or sick (if trade allows it). The Mosskin, Snails, and the Moths typically used it for religious reasons. Only the Hive have strict regulations against it (as they do with everything else).
Shrooms: Several species of mushrooms in Deepnest and the Fungal Wastes offer a variety of intoxicating and hallucinogenic effects, with a variety of different toxicity/fatality levels. Really only the Mantids know how to correctly harvest and identify each species responsible for each effect, a secret they hold closely guarded within their own tribe, but that doesn't stop certain individuals from different tribes to come in and sample the shrooms (and, if overdosed, become a fun little treat for the mantises)
The sap and nectar of the White Lady: really only attainable if you go praying to her for reproductive help, as it is an intense healing agent and potent aphrodisiac. Momentarily cures infertility, and brings about a high, but also induces heat. Tea can be made from her bark with similar (but less potent) effects, but again it must be provided from her willingly, and such examples are rare. Technically intoxicating, but only given to those struggling with infertility, miscarriages, suffering from injuries related to childbearing or birth, etc
#hollow knight#hollow knight headcanons#yeah i had to make some of them up but also like. kinda at a limit for bug drugs in canon#most of these dont work on gods rip pk and escaping his depression

you're toxic, i'm slippin' under with a taste of a poison paradise
...
(i always jokingly call their ship 'my chemical romance', mostly bc of the fact that crane is awfully good at chemistry, among the other things. n' i do dearly love this aspect of their relationships. gotta adore how it's literally 'toxic' love, bc the fear toxin is a thing, n' they both end up sniffing it, every time they met. so it's less of poetic language here. it's just that they end up inhaling fumes n' havin' a bad trip. plain as day.
anyho', these arts are circling around the idea of what if at one point, crane dosed both of them on purpose. n' what if he did it as the scarecrow. or more so, when he was in mindset of the scarecrow.
btas crane n' old comic ones are usually depicted as sadists, who ironically are afraid of pain themselves. as jonathan is the sort of man, who is afraid to suffer / be hit / be picked on, bc it was his whole life. he knows how it feels n' he's dreading it. n' while it's cute, i was wondering about more crazy n' drastic measures, that crane might take, even if he knows that it would hurt him, but at same time, would grant him smth that he wants very-very badly. in this context, some 'discomfort' should be fine. n' i believe, that if he's 'out of it' or desperate enough, he might do it.
in this context, him using ft for smth dare i say kinky, isn't out of question. i often think' that crane might view his ft as a connecting link between himself n' batman. even if he doesn't know who batman is, the difference between them is evident. starting from the looks n' ending up with their personalities. but when batman is afraid, it's like jonathan bringing bruce to his level, isn't it? at that moment, they're the same. crane dosing them both is almost a power move. kind of harmful, bc crane cannot quickly overcome his own toxin like batman does. but still, it would take batman aback. give jonathan those 10 seconds of being the 'big bad' man in the room. but that's just a cherry on top. the main point of this is that jon can get away with smth, like a kiss or smth more, bc it would all be lost in horror soon enough. with this nearly an ultimatum in mind, he can waste those few moments *where he still udnerstands what's real n' what's not* to be bold.
i feel like btas crane will be a tad more modest about it still vs his more unhinged comic counterpart. but batman would be caught off guard, either way! i generally do enjoy the situations, where bruce is ruffled n' taken for a ride from time to time. he's very serious n' very prepared, n' all that, but it's fun to let jon score a win. even if it's small, it still would plague batman for days. his enemy dosed both of them, crawled into his laps, kissed him n' then just.....refused to explain himself. n' while it would be puzzling from bruce's pov. i love how it would have been the fear-included kiss for both of them, but jon would have been afraid of it *touching lips with him* even without ft, so this what makes it painfully appealing to me.
i stan by a hc that pleasure is generaly very hard concept for crane. n' he doesn't fully know what to do with it. or how to proceed. any fantasy, where things just nice n' not complicated feels untrue to him. he can't do what harley did n' just smooch the bat. he's not a pretty gal or even someone, who has any skills in that area. more so, the mere idea about how the bat might be willing to do smth with him, outside of being low-key cornered into it or lured into, is beoynd him. which is pretty sad, but it just feels kinda....like, well, jon, haha. i can't picture him as someone, who can overlook his self-hatred n' disgust this easily. but causing smth, when controled by fear n' despair for having that one thing he's pinning for, now this would sound realistic to him.
as for bruce, he can take his revenge by simply kissing crane back. n' also explain nothing. i imagine, that when it happens, crane's brain will freeze. it's like an instant defeat.)

Batman's experience with Joker in Arkham Knight is pretty relatable to my OCD (for anyone who hasn't played it: he has infected Joker blood in him, and after being dosed with Fear Toxin he hallucinates Joker being with him and talking to him). It's like you're stuck with this horrible person living in your brain who you can't get rid of and says the shittiest things (except at least Joker is occasionally funny). You're terrified that you will become this person, that you might be becoming this person, that one day you will start doing the horrible things it says you want to. You're plagued with thoughts of killing the [thing that triggers you, is your brain's "enemy"] It's sometimes at the point where you can't tell what thoughts are "yours" anymore, is it the intrusive thoughts or do you genuinely think this way, are you turning into a horrible monster?
Everyone's reactions to Batman are what you fear society might start acting like - will they shun you, lock you in a cell to stop you, because they think you're turning into the monster?
But the important thing - the Joker doesn't win. Batman doesn't end up killing people. He does manage to get rid of Joker in the end, which might not be that possible in real life, but more importantly, even when Joker is saying these horrible things, Batman keeps going, keeps moving through life, he doesn't let it stop him from being a hero.
It's hard living with someone saying horrible things in your head, but to anyone with OCD reading this: They don't define your real thoughts/values/opinions. You are strong enough to get through this, I believe in you. You're not a monster.
[also disclaimer: if you have (or are questioning if you have) OCD and your experience doesn't match up with this, that's ok, peoples' experiences of the same disorder can be different! (putting this disclaimer because OCD self-doubt is a pain)]
#could do some analysis about batman trying to find the cure (compulsion metaphor?) but i don't have the energy#if any tumblrinas tag the personal ocd experience post as ship i will lose my faith in humanity#don't know if there are any trigger warnings i need to tag this as. feel free to let me know#i know i've bent arkham knight a bit for the ocd analysis shhh#batman#batman arkham knight#arkham knight#the joker#arkhamverse joker#bruce wayne#ocd#obsessive compulsive disorder#intrusive thoughts#kind of tempted to tag this as riddler because he is the guy with canon ocd but i shall resist

Other Batman thoughts real quick while I’m on the topic:
You think anyone’s ever taken the batmobile on a joyride? like it probably has a whole bunch of security measures to prevent that, but I like to think about Batman rushing off with other heroes for a huge event and having to leave it somewhere, and some henchpeople find it and wait a couple of days to make sure Batman doesn’t catch them before having some fun in it and then just,,, neatly returning it because they don’t wanna face Batman’s wrath
There’s a lot of stuff of Scarecrow’s fear toxin becoming a street drug, and I think that’s just a fanon thing? either way, say it is a street drug and people are buying it for whatever reason (like everyone in Gotham has become an adrenaline junkie and taking a small dose of it works with that) but Crane has no idea about all that happening
I think there’s probably a secret fear of becoming too good of a criminal or having too much of a niche and ending up on the other rogues’ radar, like being just a pickpocket and trying not to be too good at it or leave any calling cards or anything cause suddenly you’ll have a whole bunch of costumed creeps ready to make sure you know they’re better than you
Honestly, if people don’t come to the conclusion of Bruce Wayne being connected to Batman, I like to think there’d still be a small group of people who insist that Alfred Pennyworth is connected to him
Like Bruce just plays up being an airheaded playboy too well and Alfred doesn’t have a no kill rule, is ready to go ham to protect his family at any moment, has that secret veteran past and all that, and so there’s a group of people who’ve seen him go ham and lived to tell the tale being like “yeah, Bruce Wayne has no idea what’s going on, but that butler is def working with Batman, you think he secretly added the bat to the pay roll and Bruce just hasn’t noticed?”
Or maybe because Alfred doesn’t have that no kill rule, people (probably criminals specifically) think that he and Batman are enemies or something

Thirteen hours
It’s been thirteen hours since Scarecrow escaped Arkham. Nobody knows where he is, nobody knows his plans, and nobody knows when they will take place. All they know is that it’s going to be bad.
From what little you can see on the security footage, Scarecrow is pissed. The kind of pissed where he attacks orphanages and playgrounds instead of office buildings and warehouses.
And it's been
Thirteen
Hours.
[CW below the cut: mentions of bullet wounds, stitches. Screaming. Lots of screaming. Mentions of torture, especially in a medical setting, mental torture, mention of child torture, the chick is Creepy but doesn’t do anything SA-y but I’m gonna mention it just in case, mention of being trapped, mention of “the box” that might set off claustrophobia, being a self sacrificing parent, calling a child “it.”
Let me know if I forgot anything or if you spot an error]
————————————
Wil is almost relieved when Scarecrow finally surfaces. A typical attack on an occupied warehouse, one where the bats collectively decide that Hood and his henches have it handled and let them do their own thing.
When they arrive, they're not prepared for a firefight. They were expecting to see more people screaming on the ground from fear toxin than bullet wounds—they don't have enough medical supplies, and they certainly don't have enough ammo.
But they're Hood’s men. They claw their way to victory with bloodied hands. While they rush to save as many gunshot victims as possible, they don’t realize that they haven’t needed their gas masks yet. They don’t realize that Scarecrow isn’t done. Not until it’s almost too late, not until toxic green gas starts seeping up through the floor.
Beforehand, Wil is thinking about a large crack in the back of his boss’ helmit, where an enemy goon tried to knock his skull in with a metal bat.
After, Wil’s first thought is Aw shit, and his second is Holy shit boss’ ‘elmit is crack’d.
As he races over to where Hood is kneeling, stitching up a gunshot wound on one of Wil‘s coworkers, he mentally checks what all he brought with him.
Two gas masks and a rebreath’r. One mask got hit wit’ a stray bull’t, but the oth’r one and the rebreath’r ar’ fine.
When he finally, finally, arrives at Hood’s side, all he has time to do is stuff the mask in his face, say “Your ‘elmets cracked,” and stick the rebreather in his own mouth.
Ok, Terror Protocol.
-Ensure everyon’ dangerous ‘as a mask (Check)
-Find a mask fer yerself if ya can (His eyes scan the room, but everyone else had ta use ‘eir extras fer vict’ms)
-Leave if possible (“Boss,” calls anoth’r goon, we’re lock’d in from th’ outside.” Shit)
-Hand someone mask’d yer weapons (He starts throwing his guns and knives at Hood’s feet, desperately trying not ta pass out from the oxygen deprivation)
-Warn someon’ about triggers that could make ya violent (He feels his heart rate pick up as soon as he takes a breath of toxic green air. “Boz,” he chokes out, “k’p m’ aw’y fr’m med’c’l sh’t an’ an’on’ ‘n wh’te.”) [Boss, keep me away from medical shit and anyone in white.]
The Boss shouts something, but someone starts screaming with Wil’s next gasping breath and he can’t tell what was said.
Distantly, he recognises his own voice.
————————————
Riley hears Hood’s “Get us th’ hell outta ‘ere!” but only barely, because just as soon as he’s said it, someone starts screaming. The kind of screaming that reminds them of someone being tortured, taken apart slowly and never really put back together.
A second or two later, the sound stops—so abruptly they wonder if they ever heard it at all.
The other goons are searching for an exit or way to make one, so Riley looks for Hood, to see if he needs any help with whoever got dosed.
Fuck, they think, that’s Greenie.
Greenie, real name Wilbur Jacobs, has worked for Hood for three years. He started as a goon but worked his way up to the point where he’s now sixth in the hierarchy and even leads his own team of goons at times. He was actually the one to hire Riley in the first place.
(Greenie gets his nickname from a long conversation about the Green Lantern, where he made the joke “If ‘is ring runs on willpow’r, that mean I could control it? ‘Cause a my mast’ry of my own Wil-pow’r?”)
Greenie looks like shit. He’s shaking like a leaf in a hurricane; his hands are clasped in front of him like they’re cuffed there; his eyes are darting back and forth, scanning for hallucinated enemies, glassy, like he’s barely holding back tears, and terrified. Worse than Riley‘s ever seen in somebody who’s been fear-gassed.
Worst of all is the muttering.
It’s only partly intelligible, but that’s only because he’s spitting his words through his teeth, not moving his jaw at all. (Did he think he was muzzled?)
“Damn you. Damn you. You can’t have him. You won’t touch him-”
“Ma- no, ma please-”
“If you touch one hair on my son’s head, I’ll make the Alcatraz escape look like a petty quarrel. I’ll string you up by your intestines-“
“Don’t leave me alone Pa, please I’m sorry-“
“Don’t- don’t touch him. Please. Leave my son alone. I swear- I- I’ll stop fighting. I’ll go back. Just let him go. Please-“
Shaking themself back to the real world, Riley turns to Hood. “Antidote not work?”
“No- he’ll have to wait till the Bats get here so they can synthesize one.”
Greenie was screaming again.
“I think-“ the Boss cuts himself off, “I think this one makes you feel the pain. Not just in resurfaced memories either.”
Riley flinches at a particularly pained scream, “I think you’re right.”
————————————
No. Nonononono no NO
Not again. Please. This can't be happening again please no pleasenono-
“And here I thought three years was long enough to make you stronger. It’s a pity that you’re just as pathetic as you were before.”
No not Her pleasenotHerno-
“Stop screaming. Look at me.”
And he does and She’s just as crazed-excited-cruel-
“There we go.” And She turns off the machine and he can breathe-
“I’m thrilled you found yourself a little toy. A talon, impressive. I didn’t think you had it in you.”
“Damn you. Damn you.” he spits, “You can’t have him. You won’t touch him-”
“Have you already forgotten that you don’t get to tell me what to do, Subject g-7512?”
And then She had his ma’s face and he was being left again and he was only seven howcouldthey-
“Ma- no, ma please-”
“Aww. Calling for your mum again?” And She was Herself and his ma was gone-
“Bring it in,” She called, and Wolf and Snake were hauling something through the door-
Morel.
“If you touch one hair on my son’s head, I’ll make the Alcatraz escape look like a petty quarrel. I’ll string you up by your intestines-“
She tsks at him, “Threats? Again? Have you not learned from last time?” And he did and he still had the scars but that was his son-
“A week in the box.”
“You’re a disappointment, son.“ That was his pa, behind him, to the right. “I’m glad we left you in that alley. You’ve only ever been a worthless leech.”
And he can’t turn to face him and his pa always hated that-
“Don’t leave me alone Pa, please I’m sorry-“
“Don’t worry sweetheart, you’re not alone. You have me, and Wolf, and Snake- and the Talon of course. I wonder- should we return it to the Court, or do our own tests on it?”
“Don’t- don’t touch him. Please.” he begs, “Leave my son alone. I swear- I- I’ll stop fighting. I’ll go back. Just let them go. Please-“
She tsks at him again. Then motions for Wolf to turn the machine back on andhecantbreathe andhe’sscreaming andShetoldhimnotto andhecan’tstop
————————————
When he comes to he feels exhausted and his throat hurts and his boss is staring at him where he’s sitting in the dirt and-
The dirt? His boss? Wil stares up at the red helmet of the Hood and tries to ask what happened, but his voice doesn’t work.
“Don’t talk, Greenie,” Hood says, in lieu of a greeting. “Drink this.”
His boss hands him a thermos, which he finds is filled with Earl Gray tea.
The warm drink soothes his throat enough to croak, “Wher’z Mor?” [Where is Morel]
“Asleep. About 10 feet behind you,” Hood answers. “You gave us quite the scare.”
“Don’ wor’y,” WiI replies, ‘ad a ‘ell a time m’self.”
“What part of ‘don’t talk’ means ‘don’t shut up’?”
Wil smirks, and is going to try and croak out another answer, but instead gets tackled by his kid.
“Father,” they start, “Injured?”
“Sor’ an’ tir’d”
“Going home.” And then there's forty-five pounds of ex-assassin trying to drag him off in the direction of their apartment.
He gives his boss a look that says Pleas’ save me. But Hood just says “Good idea squirt, I was going to send you both that way in just a second.”
When they’re finally home, Wil puts on a happy, safe TV show, and wraps himself and Morel up in a blanket with a cup of tea. And even though the day was terrifying, and neither of them sleep, they have a good night and throw popcorn at the screen whenever the characters do something dumb.

Probable plot altogether
If the Joker had been in The Dark Knight Rises, it would likely have created a chaotic, unpredictable dynamic within the already complex plot, potentially causing further psychological torment for Bruce Wayne while adding a layer of twisted, sadistic entertainment to the film, possibly by manipulating the already fractured Gotham society further through his brand of chaos, potentially even turning citizens against Bane or even Batman himself.
Dynamic with Bane
The Joker's chaotic nature would clash directly with Bane's more calculated, brutal approach, creating a battle of ideologies between the villains, possibly forcing Batman to navigate a complex situation where he must combat two vastly different threats at once.
Psychological Impact on Bruce: The Joker's twisted games and manipulations would likely exacerbate Bruce's internal struggles, potentially pushing him further towards the edge of his mental breakdown, especially given his already fragile state after being physically broken by Bane.
New Dynamics in Gotham: The Joker's presence could further destabilize Gotham, creating even more widespread panic and distrust among the citizens, potentially playing on existing tensions and turning them against each other.
Possible Storylines:
Joker as a Catalyst: The Joker could be introduced as a catalyst to bring Batman and Bane together, creating a temporary alliance against a common enemy.
Joker's Manipulation of the Narrative: He might attempt to manipulate the public perception of Batman, trying to paint him as the true villain by creating elaborate schemes designed to turn public opinion against him.
My hypothetical scenarios.
Scenario 1.
Joker's executed. 8 years without Batman, means he stops fighting the Death Penalty. Inspired by this fan theory.
Scenario 2
Inspired by this work of art by kinjamin
Scenario 3. Joker as the villain. This scenario takes inspiration from the Dark Knight Returns, BB:Return of the Joker and Last Laugh.
Before we begin, I will tell you how Joker venom exists in the Nolanverse for this scenario could work. In The Dark Knight novelization, The novelization mentions that Hamlin, a private investigator hired by Maroni and the crime lords to discover his identity, was murdered with a poison that causes him to laugh hysterically to death. It is heavily implied to be derived from the plant that Scarecrow's Fear Toxin originates from.
Batman returns after 8 years and Joker reawakens from his coma. He escapes Arkham and causes chaos. Kills Daggett and messes with Bane's plans. Batman faces Joker and it doesn't go exactly to plan. "Aw, did the bat lose his strength after all this time? I've been waiting after ALL THIS TIME and this is the best you can do. You're no fun. Oh well. Lets go out with a bang."
When Bane faces Batman, Joker attacks, Joker's men kill Bane's men and traps Bruce and Bane in the destroyed sewer hideout. They still fight and Bane still breaks Batman. He attacks Wayne enterprise and takes the bomb and Joker has his men engineer the bomb instead of unleashing a nuclear explosion, to unleash a deadly gas attack on the city. To show Bruce what this will do, he tests a small dose on Bane and as punishment for wounding his prize. Bane begins to panic and laugh nervously and painfully and suddenly he rips off his mask and his face has a horribly disfigured smile.
Bruce finds himself broken and in the bowls of Arkham Asylum. And he sees The Joker. He's won, but something's different. An air of somberness to the clown.
"I spent 8 years planning to break you. To remind this city what they missed and just imagine my disappointment in what I found out from the masked man, just who you really are. Bruce. Ha Ha Ha o He ha ha. It all makes sense. It was YOUR PARTY HAHAHAHA Rachel was YOUR squeeze. You threw yourself to save her, didn't you and you went all the way to save her but didn't, did you? After all this time. The dark and brooding. The mysterious and dark vengeful creature of the night. Is the sad ravings of a rich boy lunatic who cries out for mommy and daddy. It would be funny if it weren't just so sad and pathetic Oh what the heck I'll laugh anyway. HAHAHAHAHA"
"If that's so, why won't you kill me?"
"Because, I told you, you're too much fun. And most importantly. I want you to dig out the old Batman, Bruce. I want Arkham to inspire you to abandon the man and embrace the Bat who stopped me all those years ago. If you don't, everyone will be, how did you put it? As ugly as me? In the end, all it takes is one bad day, you know that as anyone, Bruce and Gotham is gonna have ONE BIG BAD DAY HAHAHAHAHA"
Joker attacks Gotham. Showing the truth of Harvey Dent. In gleeful details, he reveals how he became Two-Face. He killed Maroni, his driver, two cops and Harvey. "I brought him to my level and showed him how easy a white knight can fall" Reads Gordon's letter. "Wow, the Batman REALLY showed how easy Harvey could fall HAHAHAHA" Then Joker truly begins to gaslight Gotham. He reveals that none of this would've happened without Batman. "See, Batman inspired me. He created the Scarecrow, a Cat thief, a half faced DA. Brought Ninjas. NINJAS OF ALL THINGS TO GOTHAM AHAHAHAHA. Before it was just the mob and business as usual, now? Batman has shown us what we could really do, he inspired the madness of Arkham and it's all thanks to Batman" thus twisting the knife and turning Gotham against Batman.
Joker then breaks out the Blackgate inmates and enforces a siege on the city and unleash complete anarchy on the city.
Bruce then spends the majority of Arkham. Facing the ghosts of his past. Thomas and Martha. Ra's. Rachel and Harvey. And finally Bruce fights his way out of Arkham. The Batman is back.
Gotham turns into a civil war. Between Joker and Talia.
Talia is enraged that her plans after all these years have gone to hell. She was forced to reveal herself and fight this maniac. However....he's familiar to her, she can't put her finger on it, but she knows him.
Bruce, Selena, Gordon and Blake mount a resistance.
Batman faces Joker
Joker is oh so pleased that Bruce is there.
"Looking more bat, than man. I'm so thrilled"
"I've come to end this once and for all.
"HAHAHAHA GOOD! I'VE WAITED FOR THIS MOMENT."
And they fight. Joker gets a few stabs in and Bruce beats the shit out of him. Bruce beats him down. Demands to know where the detanator is. Joker laughs manically. "HAHAHAHA THERE IS NO DETANATOR!" "We're all going to laugh together. But first, I'll let your ex have some fun."
"Ex?"
And that's when Talia stabs him.
Talia tells Bruce her story and Bane's. How Bane cared for her and how she planned her revenge after Bruce left Ra's to die. Talia made a deal with the Joker. She gets to kill Bruce, while Joker destroys Gotham and reveal it's true face. Talia even lets Bruce in on a little secret. The Joker's true origin. Joker was a prisoner of war, the League's prisoner. His crimes were so horrific, the League had to deal with him themselves and used the gas to execute him. The drug created with the flower tore his mind in half. Rejected and insane, he starts creating his criminal persona (maybe his great fear was clowns) and waiting for his chance to take his revenge against Ras Al Ghul. But he never gets the chance to because Batman takes him out he can. Because this, he sees Batman as both his most fearsome opponent and closest ally. LOS wanted Order. Joker wants Chaos. Being rejected and left broken by the league, Joker could be their antithesis. He is a failure. And insane. Could be the reasoning behind acting the opposite of the League’s style.
Joker shoots Talia. "No, no no. That's not how I got these scars"
Joker gets in the sLaughter truck carrying the Joker venom bomb and plans to unleash it in the center of the city.
Bruce stops him finally and Joker has his last laugh.
"I did it. I brought the Bat out of you and I got you to break your one rule. Ha Ha Ha H-" The Joker dies with a smile on his face.
Bruce "sacrifices" himself.
Scenario 4. Joker's turf war.
Joker has his own little turf in Gotham during Bane’s siege of Gotham. Since Nolan actually turned to storylines in the comics for inspiration (though admittedly using the ideas liberally), I can see him borrowing a bit from “No Man’s Land” and “The Black Hand”. Bane and the League Of Shadows take over Gotham, and free the inmates of Arkham to spread chaos. In the aftermath, they give Joker, Scarecrow, and possibly others their own “turfs” to watch over, and Batman and Catwoman have to deal with them on their way to finding the bomb/taking on Bane. The Joker, of course, eventually goes rogue because it’s no fun without Batman and oh the League is so boring. But to keep up appearances, Joker stabs Bruce with his knife. Cause if The Batman can’t come out to play anymore, he has to give the Bat one last fight before their game is over and something to remind him of Joker in his final moments alive. With his betrayal realized, Bane swears to kill him and honestly I’d switch to so we have Joker killing Bane instead of Catwoman.
Scenario 5. Joker and Harley.
Harley is the only staff member caring for the Joker. He helped bring out her true self and with Batman resurfacing, Joker and Harley strikes. Personality wise, Harley is like Nurse Ratchet meets Baby Firefly.
Joker and Harley have Mad Love and are equals in making Gotham and Batsy down to their levels.
Bane offers a truce. They can have their fun, so long as they don't interfere. Joker agrees, so long as he can have his fun with the Bat. They shake hands with the clear vibe they will stab each other in the back when the moment presents itself.
Batman faces Joker before Bane while Catwoman fights Harley.
Joker kills Bane and laughs and suddenly stops. He realizes this is it. Batman flies away with the bomb and just like that, the game is over and he's back in Arkham with no purpose, all while Harley will continue his work until the REAL Batman comes back all while she has fun with this pretender.
As for who can play Nolan's Harley
Kristen Bell
Amanda Seyfried
Natasha Lyonne
Fairuza Balk
Christina Ricci
Brittany Murphy

Hey March! Ok I’m gonna be basic and ask for random opinions/headcanons of the dork squad, all three of the boys!! (If you don’t mind of course, and have a nice day!)
Oh hey, it's my top three Rogues(and I think we can all make an educated guess of who is number one)! So these guys, I've loved 'em all since I was a kid watching BTAS in the 90s. I remember I had like three of the Riddler toy from McDonald's back in the day. Wish I could have had some merch for the other two(especially Jervis), but I most likely would have lost them, so I guess it's for the best(and I DO have stuff for them all now so HA).
Since the nostalgia's hitting, I'm gonna go with BTAS headcanons specifically.
Jervis: The Worry Men seems to indicate that he's finally moved on from his obsession with Alice. Just the fact he intended to retire and leave Gotham once he had the money he needed. At this point, I think he only continues with crime because he already has the criminal reputation and doesn't believe he'd be able to live a normal life again. Not without leaving Gotham and starting over completely, at least.
Jon: So, listen. You remember Lyle Bolton? After he was arrested, Jon was able to get some good, old-fashioned revenge. First chance our dearest straw man got, he smuggled the ingredients for at least one dose of fear toxin into Arkham and slipped it in Bolton's lunch. The resulting breakdown became the stuff of legend among the other inmates.
Eddie: You might expect Eddie to have a lot of enemies in Arkham. Not so. Or at least not as many of them as he has friends. As the Riddler, he has all the right connections to get the other inmates things they might want or need. He's the go-to guy for just about everything, and as a result he's actually pretty popular. If someone even thought to mess with Ed, they'd have a line of his allies ready to... Have them rethink their grievances.

The following progressive of My Batman AU resembles some new origin stories and new accomplishments between the DC Universe.
Bio: Jonathan didn’t have a very not much childhood. He was kept in a glass bottle most of his life as being a ginnie pig for his father’s fear toxin until The GCPD rescued him and His father was shot to death. Johnathan was then put into fostercare were he began to thought to his studies of fear. When Jonathan was older, he became a professor at Gotham University, and tried to test on the students, He began performing experiments in everything in what do they fear and Some with Fear Toxin injected in them. He tested on them more and more which lead to students ended up going insane. When he kept on herring reports about Batman and his early tempted to take on Much deadly threats, Jonathan began to dig into his research tether, as he uses fear to the criminals element.
After Dr Death and his empire was defeated, Crane was found out and fired. Seeking revenge, he adopted the identity of the super villain Scarecrow to get back at his former employers using his Fear Gas, bringing Crane into conflict with Gotham's protector, Batman. On their first encounter on the streets, Crane managed to escape by injecting the toxic into The Dark Knight. Their second encounter at the University, Batman came prepared and subjected Crane to a dose of his own "medicine" before the villain was arrested. Once recovered, Crane became intrigued with the idea of a man who had no fears, deciding to focus on breaking the Batman along with the rest of Gotham. To this end, Crane researched relentlessly to create a batch of Fear Gas that could even break the Dark Knight. He was involved in the Long Halloween event we’re he became partners with The Mad Hatter and escape Blackgate during the Christmas Crime fiasco event.

So let me get this straight.
Two of my fave DC female characters were tricked into helping their enemies this week. One inadvertently helped Eclipso burst out the black diamond, the other accidentally helped Crane dose Gotham with fear toxin.
Stargirl and Starfire ALSO messed up their kitchens, LOL. One with her cosmic staff while fighting Jade; the other with her starbolts in a trance.
What a coincidence. Me and well-intentioned, erratic heroes are this tight. 🤞
Stargirl (DC Stargirl, season 3)
Starfire (Titans season 3).

Rylkar are a species of intelligent, creatures that originated in the upper Underdark and have begun spreading through other regions. They share traits with both rats and social insects such as ants and bees, with a single queen that acts as the center of a group and offspring with different physical characteristics to best suit their position and duties. They are mostly scavengers, living off the remains of the many large predators and dangerous groups of the Underdark, but can be dominant predators themselves when faced with less threatening environments. They have the appearance of diseased rats, being nearly indistinguishable at a basic viewing aside from their size. Cysts of pale green fluid form under their patchy fur and scabbed skin, seeming to have no negative effect on the rylkar even if they burst. In the young, this fluid has a potent and nauseating smell to help act as protection for the rylkspawn, but as they get older this smell weakens.
Most mysterious about the rylkar is their reproduction process, which utilizes fire to spur it forward. The queen harridan gestates large numbers of offspring inside of her body, holding them in suspension or even reabsorbing the fetuses during times of low food, but when fire is applied to her body she can birth entire swarms of young in short order. It's believed that this may be an artificial constraint somehow magically enforced onto the rylkar, suggesting they may have been bred for some purpose and escaped their creators. Other theories suggest this is a way of ensuring the rylkar only expand their numbers when stable enough that the drones and warriors can produce fires that will burn with enough energy to spur the harridan on, ensuring that groups that aren't well established don't waste energy and resources with offspring. The rylkar themselves don't seem to know or care for the reason behind this reproduction method, simply carrying it out when possible.
A harridan is by far the largest of the rylkar, reaching a length of up to 30 feet and weighing up to 16 tons. She requires the majority of the resources the rylkar colony can collect, and will even feed on weakened drones and warriors that she judges as having no value for the colony anymore. The eyes of a harridan wither and go blind as she grows, possibly another source of control from whoever created the rylkar to try and keep the massive creature under control. It seems to have largely failed.
Harridans regenerate rapidly, shrugging off incredible amounts of damage in short order. Fire and acid inflict true damage to the harridan, but this is a trap with her method or reproduction. If burned to end her regeneration, she will give birth to a swarm of rylkspawn, making the fight even more dangerous as the hungry young are capable of devouring an entire person within moments of being born. Even survivors of a battle may die soon, as the terribly unhygienic mouth of the rylkar tends to carry disease, and the harridan's is the most potent of all. Rylkar fever is a terrible infection that quickly overtakes the victim and will usually kill the patient in around a week.
One of the most insidious facts about the harridan is that her presence tends to infect nearby water and organic matter with a type of toxin nourishing to rylkar but toxic to nearly all other creatures. A harridan's presence near a water supply may poison it for all who live downstream, and few animals can live near a rylkar colony for long. Not even magic potions are entirely immune to this toxin, and exposing one to the aerosolized substance can infect them even in the brief moment between opening and drinking it. The toxin has no effect if inhaled in small doses; it must bind to another substance and be introduced to the stomach specifically. This toxin ensures that rylkar have very few predators or environmental competitors, as they quickly poison or drive out all other creatures.

A rylkar harridan that has established itself for at least a week causes regional effects in the vein of some legendary creatures. The region surrounding a harridan's lair experiences one or more of the following effects: • Permanent water sources within 1,000 feet of the lair are contaminated as the harridan's contaminate trait. • The air within 1,000 feet of the lair smells and tastes foul. Creatures other than rylkar that take a long rest in the area must save as if they had eaten or drank food or water contaminated by the harridan. If the harridan dies or moves from its lair, these effects fade over the course of 4d4 days.

A magic potion opened within that area has a cumulative 10% chance of being infected each round it is exposed, exposing the drinker to the toxin in addition to the normal benefit of the potion. Any creature except rylkar that eats food or drinks water exposed to the rylkar's toxin must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or become poisoned for one minute. While poisoned in this way, the creature takes 7 (2d6) poison damage at the start of each of its turns, and its hit point maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the poison damage taken. The poisoned creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. Iron Constitution. If it heals to its maximum hit points, then that use of regeneration doesn’t count against the five-use limit. When the rylkar is hit by an attack that does acid or fire damage, it loses one use of its regeneration, and it can’t regenerate during its next turn. Dropping the rylkar to 0 hp doesn’t kill it if it has any uses of regeneration left. Slow: The rylkar can only drag itself along slowly. It takes two move actions to cover the same ground as a single normal move action. Spawn Swarm: 1/battle when the rylkar takes fire damage and the escalation die is 2+, the rylkar can spawn a single rylkspawn swarm nearby. AC 21 PD 20 MD 14 HP 150

Ok this was in my drafts from ages ago and I forgot to post so it’s here now:
So with Arkham Knight completed I wanted to discuss the story and some of the things I liked about the plot.
For my money Arkham City is the most entertaining of the series plot-wise. It is wide in scope, incorporating a large group of Batman’s rogues, with a lead villain who has a commanding presence. It is the quintessential Batman plot, full of twists, focusing on his dynamic with the Joker and is a big ‘ol actionfest.
Arkham Knight’s plot on the other hand is quite pedestrian by comparison looking at the villain plot: Scarecrow wants to take down Batman and cause chaos in Gotham and a mysterious new villain appears to help. From this standpoint, Arkham Knight is nothing special. However, as a character study of Batman, it goes much deeper than any of the previous games, and deeper even than any of the films. Most of those dealt with “Why does Bruce Wayne become Batman?” whereas Knight asks the question “What does it mean to BE Batman?”
In this respect “Be the Batman” is more than just a marketing tagline. We really delve into what makes Batman and Bruce Wayne tick and their relationships with the world, their allies, and enemies.
We’re going to delve into big spoiler territory now so be ye warned.
Batman in this game is in an interesting place. Crime is supposedly lower than ever when Scarecrow’s plan starts falling into place, yet he’s hitting criminals harder than ever, working tirelessly in his war on crime. His modifications to the Batmobile make this immediately apparent, adding numerous heavy weapons and armour. One of the unlockable Arkham stories indicates that adding more weaponry has been something Batman has fought for years, according to Lucius, but he had a change of heart some point between City and Knight. We learn soon enough that Batman is on borrowed time. His blood is still infected with Joker’s own and is actually beginning to turn him. This is his last assault on crime, one final push if a cure cannot be found. As a result, he is pushing his allies further away than ever. This alienation was seen in a small way in the epilogue DLC “Harley Quinn’s Revenge”, keeping Robin at arm’s length and mostly avoiding contact with his allies entirely.
This is one of the key themes of the whole game and, personally, if I were to choose one word to sum up Arkham Knight it would be “family”. “Asylum”, “City”, and “Origins” were all solo efforts on Batman’s part, with some input in his ear from Oracle and Alfred, and a brief appearance by Robin. This is the first game to really have the Bat-family on board proper and this really informs a lot of the game and Batman’s motivations.
He pushes them away because he knows he’s dying. He pushes them away because he wants them to get used to the idea of him being gone. Most importantly, he pushes them away because he believes this will keep them safe. This is underlined when Scarecrow’s fear toxin kicks in. Thanks to the hallucinations provided by it, we are shown two of Batman’s greatest failures in his eyes, along with his raison d’etre: the crippling of Barbara Gordon, the torture and murder of Jason Todd, and the death of his parents. The former two are clearly never far from the dark knight’s thoughts and show why he genuinely does fear for his allies safety. This ends up, in the obvious ironic twist, putting them in greater danger. By keeping them at arm’s length and withholding his plans, the Batman is a less effective force. He doesn’t consider that they are safest together, working as a team. His allies come to his rescue a couple of times during the course of the game, Nightwing saving him from Penguin’s thugs, Catwoman saving him from an unwinnable fight against The Riddler, Oracle aiding him during the defence of the GCPD and Robin not saving him per se, but defusing some of the Johnny Charisma’s bombs while Batman is unable to move.
Another key subplot is Batman vs Joker. Even after his death, through his blood and the fear toxin, Joker is resurrected as a hallucination, a dark Jiminy Cricket pestering and needling the caped crusader at every turn. This is the ultimate Joker, no less potent for not being “real”. He represents everything Batman hates and fears, because he is not only The Joker, but the darkest parts of Batman’s mind, all the what ifs, the maybe should’ves, all of this tumbles out of Joker’s mouth, taunting the dark knight with his own insecurities. It shows Batman’s human side a lot more than any previous game, shows he can be afraid, he does have doubts, can fail, can falter. This is something which clearly plays across his mind throughout the game and leads him to the ultimate conclusion of the game which I will touch on in a bit.
The Joker has always been key to the Batman mythos. He was that in Batman #1 so nearly as long as the Batman has been in existence. Having him manifest as a facet of Batman’s subconscious is both a neat narrative trick (and way to skirt the “Joker is dead” thing without cheapening the end of “City”) and a useful dynamic in explaining who Batman is. Much of his existence has been spent battling The Joker and it’s clear that there is a side of Batman in “Knight” that almost misses him in a sense. His presence also plays up the yin-yang of their relationship and eventually culminates quite literally in a battle in Batman’s psyche.
Near the game’s ending Scarecrow unmasks Batman and injects him with a heavy dose of fear toxin. This causes Joker’s personality to be brought to the fore but at the same time empowers Batman’s own power of fear, showing the clown prince of crime his own greatest nightmare: being forgotten. This is ultimately delivered personally by Batman, bursting from the shadows of his own mind and subduing the Joker side, locking him away forever, enforcing this with the time tested phrase “I am vengeance, I am the night, I am Batman.” This is said, as another blogger pointed out, as much to himself as to The Joker. This is a declaration that he is Batman, he is no longer Bruce Wayne. To paraphrase “Batman Begins”, as Bruce Wayne he can fail, be killed, and simply die, which is when we come to the ending.
Upon the final villains being rounded up he initiates the Knightfall protocol and removes his mask. This is a clear symbolic gesture as he is leaving Batman behind on the rooftop with the Batsignal and reverting to Bruce Wayne. He flies back to Wayne Manor and it explodes, destroying the whole building. It’s not made explicit but it’s fairly evident that Bruce has faked his death, very publicly killing Bruce Wayne, now that he has been revealed as the alter ego of Batman. Gordon’s narration states that “this is how the Batman died” but it’s really how Bruce Wayne died.
The final scene shows Thomas, Martha and young Bruce Wayne stand-ins walking down an alley past a theatre, visually recreating Batman’s origin. There’s a gunman, there are broken pearls, this is the birth of Batman as we remember. This time however, Batman already exists. A shadow appears on the rooftop behind the criminals, towering high before spreading shadowy wings and fiery demon eyes alighting as it swoops towards them and cuts to black. It’s clear this is more than a symbolic statement as the criminals react to this “Knightmare” and are clearly terrified. Ultimately it’s up to interpretation, but I think, either it is The Batman in his purest form, shed of the Bruce Wayne identity, free to be more than human (with the use of Scarecrow’s fear toxin apparently), or it simply a psychological manifestation. After Scarecrow’s gas flooded Gotham’s streets, perhaps the residual effects left a lingering memory of Batman that was burned into their consciousness.
Either way it’s a true and final realisation of Bruce Wayne’s goal for the Batman. To become something eternal, supernatural even, that will watch over an protect

hello everyone! hope you all had an amazing start to the new week. it has been a joy for the entire staff to see all of your submissions and watch as your characters unfold. as you may have been waiting for, it is time to unleash three more of our species so without further ado, here is part 3 with fairies, elves, and psychics!
FAIRIES
overview depictions of fairies differ between cultures; for some they’re depicted as a benevolent race – for others, they’re playful and maybe even dangerous tricksters. in reality, fairies straddle a grey line of morality, being both light bringers and mischievous spirits. they hail from another world entirely, a realm which was destroyed some 73 years ago. fairies have been visiting the earthly realm for eons, aiding civilizations and the evolution of human kind. over the centuries, many fairies chose to stay on earth, while others bounced between realms. it was in 1947 that all fairies were forced to make earth their permanent residence - those who did not flee perished as their world imploded on itself. since the destruction of their world, for the better half of a century, fairies have lived peacefully on earth, and have remained cloaked to both mortals and creatures. it has only been in recent decades that their existence has been revealed by those in the creature community – exposing the properties of their magic and particularly, their blood. physiology a fairy's appearance is, by most standards, the definition of perfection - in the eyes of a human, they’re so alluring it’s hard for them to turn away. for other creatures, the allure is not so strong, but it is most definitely present. as an immortal race, a fairy naturally never ages past 50. by the time a fairy is aged into adulthood, they normally obtain the power to control their aging – either by reversing it, speeding it up, or stopping it completely. this power occurs at different times for every fairy, but normally anywhere within their mid 20’s early 30’s. notable physical markers of a fairy include eyes that glow a bright blue in the presence of their own kind, and pointed ears. for the sake of blending in, many fairies have their points cut off. this practice was once considered shameful to their kind, but is now considered necessary for survival. abilities upon birth, fairies are immediately gifted with enhanced strength and agility. the rest of their powers develop as they age, until they reach full adulthood. seeing as fairies are capable of performing magic, this is often the first thing they’re taught - however they’re not able to tap into infernal magic, limiting them to the elements and celestial magic. fairies can also bestow both good and bad luck upon humans and other mortal creatures, and only the fairy in charge of the spell is able to withdraw it. one can only hope to be blessed by a fairy but should also fear their curse. they also possess the magical ability to heal injuries, illness, and many more. there is a theory that fairies are also capable of sickening their victims with plagues and other illnesses, but this has not been confirmed, nor denied. lastly, fairies are able to induce illusions through means of telepathic abilities, inspiring confusion and doubt. this is particularly useful when dealing with predators, or those wishing to harm them. weaknesses a fairy's scent is as alluring as their appearance, and to vampires, they’re dubbed the ultimate meal. for years, fairies have been a target in the blood trade, often leading them into dealing with vampires to save their own lives. their allergy to iron, while bothersome, is not as much of a hindrance as gold is. gold will enhance a fairy's magic and powers, but the metal will also induce confusion and break concentration, so it is mostly avoided. fairies do not get sick by normal humans means, but any fatal wound can kill them, or at least slow them down. in addition, pure rock salt also completely diminishes a fairy's magic, and if spread across a barrier, this ensures that they can not enter. clans in the realm of fae, fairy clans were more respected the longer they were around, and the larger that they were. however, things changed when fairies were forced to live on earth - many families and clans were separated or vanished entirely from existence, as many perished in the incident of 1947. customary titles akin to that of royalty are now a thing of the past, and blood line purity is no longer much of a concern. clans are now mostly made up of survivors, found families and groups of fairies who have vowed to protect each other. in rare instances fairies can and sometimes are completely nomadic, but it is usually due to being ousted from their own clan. though a sort of community exists among fairies, that doesn't stop feuds between clans, which have been known to turn out deadly. the common understanding all clans seem to have is the crucial nature of their survival, and it is because of this understanding that killing of a fellow fairy is seen as treason. though it will not end in the murderer's death, it will result in their exile from the fae community as a whole. fairy blood a substance not yet discovered by mankind, but has been a staple in the supernatural world a little less than a hundred years now. the chemistry of the fae blood is of the purest and most beautiful biological compounds. due to its purity, it can not be replicated or synthesized. the problem lies within the addictive, empowering quality of fae blood - while most creatures share similar side effects, such as feeling limitless, vivid hallucinations, temporary cell regeneration and keener senses, it is the vampires who are affected by the blood most of all. if a vampire consumes even the slightest amount of fairy blood, they harness the ability to day walk. though depending on the amount, it can wear off in minutes, hours, or days, but is never a permanent solution. due to the extinction scare of fae hundreds of years ago, fairy blood is now considered sacred amongst their kind, and the recreational consumption of it is frowned upon. fairy blood is worth a lot on the streets - whether it is given willingly or not.
ELVES
overview elves are sinister creatures with the power of nature and animals with little mercy on those who cross their path. for centuries, the elves have been at the forefront of battles, banding together to battle alongside or against humans, leaving a sea of bodies in their wake. weapons were only a luxury, as their skin could secrete a lethal poison, potent enough to kill humans with the slightest touch. while elves have long since wreaked havoc on the human race, they are not entirely malicious - elves have also assisted humans throughout history, their moral alignment dependent on the type of elf you meet . since their poison has been discovered as the ultimate weapon for illegal hunters and mercenaries, many elves have had to cloak themselves rather than remain mainstream with the rest of the society. however, those who choose to be in the light, risk the chance of becoming another casualty in the black market. physiology elves are masters of disguise, capable of glamour - this allows them to manipulate certain physical attributes, making themselves look slightly different, throwing off anyone who may think to recognize them. they have very few features that distinguish them from humans, if any at all. they gain their youthfulness from sunlight, and lack of it can age an elf just within a few days. they stop aging around the age of 25, but they can accelerate their appearance or decelerate at times, permanently with magic. moonlight weakens them slightly, making elves . This goes the same for cloudy days as direct solar energy is crucial to an elf’s survival and without it they can die. abilities with just a touch, an elf can poison their victim with a toxin emitted from their skin. It will render the individual extremely ill - a few days later, the victim will either recover or die, depending on the strength of their immune system, or the amount of poison they have been exposed to. an older elf can easily control the toxicity of their own poison, capable of administering doses weak enough to simply render their victim unconscious with no other consequences. this ability also renders them immune to other toxins or poisons. including their poison, elves have a connection to nature that's unlike any other species. they’re able to manipulate plants and animals, and with a great amount of energy, they are capable of restoring life, using their breath. while elves are stronger than most humans to an extent, they do not stand out particularly from the other species. weaknesses elves cannot go without sunlight for very long, as their vitality relies on it. they may notice signs early on, such as fatigue, losing their appetite and being unable to properly control their abilities. the only thing needed to truly kill an elf is to capture them, isolate them, and deprive them of sunlight - you’ll watch as they disintegrate into a mummified corpse. iron will also weaken an elf, and their own powers can be their greatest enemy if they’re not careful in controlling it.
PSYCHICS
overview many believe in things such as intuition, déjà vu, fate or destiny. Within recent centuries the spiritualist movement has been taken by storm, opening up a whole new realm of enlightenment for humans. However, those gifted in the spiritual arts have existed for far longer than modern ideas and tropes of psychics. Some take on stereotypical personas for financial gain, others hide it and use it for good, and still there are some who are ashamed. For some it is a gift and for others it is a curse. There’s no rhyme or reason to why or how psychics came to be and that’s what’s made their existence an intriguing phenomenon.
physiology physically psychics are no different than human beings. They're born and die like regular humans, leading mortal lives and having no clear way to escape death unless they’re turned by a supernatural species and lose all abilities they formerly had as a psychic. Their ability is not something that they experience from birth and this is what ultimately makes it hard for researchers to track their existence. It is only when experiencing extreme, emotionless duress that their ability awakens.
abilities every psychic has one single ability that they must harness and control if they don’t want it to completely consume them. Those gifted with dream weaving can especially be put in danger if their ability is not put in check quickly, but without resources many psychics don’t know where to get the answers they need to learn to control their powers. Furthermore, psychics have a great mental strength (this does not get rid of the possibility of mental illness, as that does exist within psychics). They’re able to ward off mental attacks or invasions from other species such as a vampires hypnosis, a fairies illusion or a sirens touch. Listed below are the powers psychics are gifted with individually.
- clairvoyants a physical connection is not needed for a clairvoyants intuition to peak. This can be a gut feeling, a sensation or an emotion that is stuck with them until the information they are receiving is acknowledged. with strong clairvoyance one can aid in finding the location of missing objects or people but cannot tell the future. they simply get ideas of what may happen rather than visions. this is ultimately one of the hardest abilities to control.
- mediums these psychics see dead people, and if they're skilled enough at it may be able to speak with them as well. Mediums can contact or summon those in the underworld or other planes, but they’re more easily available to spirits who have yet to cross over. Most people who experience mediumship think they’re hallucinating when the ability first appears, and as such It can take time for those with this gift to accept it.
- dream weavers these are endowed with the ability to create and exist in dreams, an extreme and very powerful ability similar to astral projection or lucid dreaming. along with being able to craft dreams for themselves (and others with practice), psychics with this ability are able to visit others within their dreams. however, this can be a very dangerous ability to have by nature alone - it may eventually become difficult to discern what's real from what isn't or one might lose the ability to return to consciousness at all.
weaknesses as stated above, anything that can harm or kill a human may also harm or kill a psychic. they are mortal, and as such they are just as susceptible as any other mortal to terminal illness, disease, and natural death by old age. Due to many psychics not understanding their powers they are also prone to psychotic breaks. Even then the most skilled psychic can fall victim to mental illness as their powers can be rather exhaustive.
