When i say parent characters, i mean The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo, Brave, and Strange World.
Original ask, for those following along: What is it about over-protective/over-bearing parents in other Disney show and Disney movies that were done better than in Tangled the series?
The difference between the parents in the movies that you listed and Tangled the series are that those parents all had character arcs within their stories. They began their journey as overbearing and/or overprotective, but the audience gets to see how their attitude towards their child and their own behavior changes.
Triton realizes that it's his actions that caused Ariel to run away. He even voices out loud, "What have I done?" Once he's told the truth of the situation by Sebastian, he exchanges his freedom for hers. And, at the end of the movie, he gives her back her human form without her even asking him to, because he sees that it's what she wants more than anything.
Marlin is actually the main character of Finding Nemo. He travels miles upon miles, meeting other fish and getting into and out of situations, and he realizes that, while his fears are not unfounded, they are also not insurmountable. He is given the final push of realization by Dory when she points out that he's not letting Nemo actually live because of his overprotectiveness. And then, at the climax of the movie, he makes the decision to trust Nemo and believe he knows what he's doing, thus proving that the lesson has been learned, and that he won't let fear hold him or Nemo back anymore.
Queen Elinor is the co-star of the movie. The story is literally about her and Merida's relationship. Through the course of the movie, she comes to understand Merida's point of view, and through Merida's own steps to meet her halfway, she becomes more open and compromising.
The same can be said for Strange World. That whole movie was about generational trauma and mending ties. Searcher realized he was pushing Ethan in the same way that Jaeger was pushing him, just in the opposite direction, and even Jaeger comes around to understand that his point of view isn't the only one that matters.
However, in Tangled: the Series, Frederic isn't a main character. He's actually a side character, an obstacle for Rapunzel to get past, and doesn't get a character arc. We don't see enough of the world and the situations through his eyes to really view an arc. What he gets is more like falling off a plateau. He's overprotective and overbearing, getting worse and worse until the S1 finale, at which point he abruptly apologizes when Rapunzel comes to confront him and he's sad, and lays out the reasons for why he was acting that way. And Rapunzel forgives him. And because she forgives him, everyone else in the series does, too. (Which happens later on in the series, as well.) Her forgiveness and actions during the season finale abruptly make him realize (off-camera) that she is more than capable of taking care of herself, a point which he tells her at the very end of the episode, despite people having been telling him that all along.
After that, his appearances are few, and they literally had to wipe his memories to reverse his personality to before he was overbearing and overprotective just to make him more likeable to the audience. There was very little satisfaction in that. It was as if they were scrambling to try to get us to like him, since the audience had such an overwhelmingly negative and unsympathetic reaction to him. (Not universal, of course. There are plenty of people who get it and like him, but the vast majority of fans do not.)
So I guess the big difference is that we get to see the journey of those other parents, even if it's brief, and so we know they've actually learned. There's a lot of heel turning in Tangled: the Series, and it's one of its biggest writing flaws.

Could I request some more info on all the FFAK boys?? Like..Their full names? Ages? Birthdays or Astrology Signs? What are their personalities like? Most likely in the band to...? Some favorites (food, drink, hobby, music, movie, color, fabric, ect, anything lol)? Any secrets? Favorite type of groupie? Dominant or Submissive? Kinks? Anything you think we need to know or want us to know?...if you could answer these I'll give you my soul lol thank you in advance 🖤💋
An Interview? Noice. (Secrets are meant to be secret so if you interact with the boys, you wouldn’t necessarily know it to be true just like you might not know Duncan Shepherd is adopted 👀👀👀)
@fitfouraking correct me if i’m wrong boys...
~~~~
Their full names? Baptiste “Bapt/Bapty/Daddy” O’Malley
Ages? 26 going 27
Birthdays or Astrology Signs? 23rd of October 1993 - Scorpio
What are their personalities like? Cheeky, flirty, playful and mischievous but genuinely cares about the people around him, especially his “girls” (aka younger female fans). He once got in a physical fight with a guy who shoved a younger fan and was being an overall cunt. Gets along the best with their tour manager, there are rumours of him dating her and/or Damian but he is not the type of guy to settle down right now even tho he’s fucked them both multiple times.
Most likely in the band to...? Leak his own nudes. Been there, done that.
Some favourites?·
Food: Chinese food is da bomb.·
Music: Green day and Nirvana are my fav band.·
Hobbies: include playing MMORPG and a handful of NSFW things.·
Movie: Disney’s Hercules.·
Fabric: Denim’s cool.·
Colour : Green
Any secrets? Actually not the roughest lover of them all. Gay for Damian but still keeping his bisexuality in the closet. He doesn’t really like his name. He does all of the backup and 2nd vocals for the band and during the live performance.
Favourite type of groupie? The respectful ones.
Dominant or Submissive? Dominant.
Kinks? The band doesn’t call me Daddy for nothing.
~~~~
Their full names? Frederick “Freddy/Fred/Snowflake” Thomas Dawson
Ages? 24 going 25
Birthdays or Astrology Signs? 1st of March 1995 - Pisces
What are their personalities like? Seems clueless but is a great listener. Big dork and cuddle bug, the most affectionate and in touch with their feelings out of all of them.
Most likely in the band to...? Be painfully oblivious. Remember that story about that guy that had that girl over and she told him she could only sleep naked so he was like ‘Oh okay I’ll sleep on the couch” and then she was calling downstairs to him saying she was cold and he was like “No wonder you’re cold. You’re naked” and fetched her an extra blanket? That’s Frederick. (Thankfully, Baptiste was there to keep her warm…)
Some favourites?·
Food: Is it edible? Then it’s my favourite·
Music: All Time Low, Blink 182, Sum 41, Ed Sheeran & Fall Out Boy are my biggest inspirations.·
Hobbies: I like hiking and looking at people and imagining what’s happening in their head.·
Movie: The Lord of The Rings & The Hobbit saga.·
Fabric: I don’t have a favourite fabric? I just… Wear stuff? I guess cotton is nice, that’s what my underwear are made of (no it’s not boyfriend material, that’s Dorian’s)·
Colour: Blue
Any secrets? I learned to play the guitar to impress Damian’s little sister (it worked) and her lipstick stain is tattooed on my thigh.
Favourite type of groupie? I- uh. What?
Dominant or Submissive? I don’t like fighting, sorry.
Kinks? Baptiste? Did you write those questions? I guess I like a lot of things?
~~~~
Their full names? Damian “Damn/Dammy/D-man” Taliesin Anatole Greene
Ages? 25 going 26
Birthdays or Astrology Signs? 18th of May 1994 - Taurus
What are their personalities like? Can seem aloof and too prideful but is extremely attentive and on the ball of everything going on. Openly Pansexual and exudes LGBTQ+ rights and sensuality. Unapologetically himself.
Most likely in the band to...? Miss rehearsal because he saw a dog on the street and ended up stroking it for 45 minutes.
Some favourites?·
Food: West European food is my favourite and I can’t wait to tour in France and Italy to share it with the band!·
Music: Linkin Park, Bring Me The Horizon and My Chemical Romance.·
Hobbies: Writing and strolling around the cities we visit after gigs to explore at night.·
Movie: Shawshank Redemption & The Green Mile.·
Fabric: Satin and anything sheer, flowey and comfortable.·
Colour: Burgundy
Any secrets? I have a 666 tattooed below my navel, it was written by Baptiste on the same day he got my bite mark tattooed on his inner thigh.
Favourite type of groupie? The ones who aren’t trying too hard and who leaves their phone in their bag once stepping in my hotel room.
Dominant or Submissive? Depends who is asking.
Kinks? I do like praising and rewarding.
~~~~
Their full names? Dorian “Dory/Doe/D-boy” Alexander Harrison
Ages? 24 going 25
Birthdays or Astrology Signs? 4th of August 1995 - Leo
What are their personalities like? Daydreamer and pretty flamboyant even tho he is quiet. Least active ones in interviews, he is also witty, bold and blunt whenever he opens his mouth. Known as “the single one”, he has never been in a relationship in the 10 years they all have known each other and the boys believed he might be gay for a while until he met the “right” groupie and brought her backstage for some… fun. Likes being reminded of his biggest “quirk”, his heterochromia, it makes him feel special.
Most likely in the band to...? Fall in love with a fan.
Some favourites?·
Food: Italians do it better.·
Music: Black Veil Bride, Avenged Sevenfold, My Chemical Romance and Mayday Parade·
Hobbies: Play music and jam with Baptiste (rhythm section amirite)·
Movie: The Lion King and Star Wars’ original trilogy.·
Fabric: Leather and anything sheer.·
Colour: I’m colour blind… I think Grey is cool?
Any secrets? I mastered all instruments used on stage and I’m the one who usually come up with the rhythm/acoustic side of our music. Also have one recurring groupie I hang out with regularly. Definitely the roughest in bed and only 100% straight member.
Favourite type of groupie? The good girls who follow the rules.
Dominant or Submissive? Usually dominant. I can be convinced otherwise.
Kinks? Sorry, Tour Manager’s saying that the time’s up. You’ll have to find that out by yourself. Backdoor at 4pm?

So this is a follow up to this drabble that is also cross posted on my ao3 account here
On the anniversary of the tsunami Buck gets a new tattoo. This time Eddie and Christopher go with him.
It's been three months since Eddie all but jumped Buck in the station's changing room, unable to hold back his feels upon seeing his son's drawing on his now boyfriend's skin.
It's funny but in hindsight not all that suprising how well they've transitioned from best friends to lovers. It's not exactly smooth sailing, no relationships ever are but in a way very little has changed. Only more kissing and umm other stuff.
In the week leading up to the first anniversary no one at work has braved speaking of the upcoming event. It's a date that marks a extremely traumatic time for both men, and Bobby - both the station captain being cautious about any potential risk of having the two at work on such a emotionally charged day and Bobby the friend, wanting to allow them time for themselves to - had given the two men the day off.
Neither had protested.
The city of LA still bore the scars of that fateful day in the streets and sidewalks of the most affected areas. In the buildings still under construction and renovation to repair the damage left by the water and debris. As the date drew closer new memorials for the dead and the missing where remade. But LA and it's people were healing. No matter how slow.
They're healing too, this little family of three they've created Eddie thinks on the morning of the anniversary as he watches Christopher cheerily eat rice crispies giggling around each mouthful whilst Buck dramatically throws away the toast Eddie burnt and proceeds to make more. It's a scene he's seen almost everyday now for the past couple of months but it hasn't gotten old yet.
Christopher still had nightmares, although they were becoming fewer and further between. He was still going to therapy and had even begun swimming again. In the shallow end clinging to his dad or Buck but it's progress.
Since learning that Buck had gotten a tattoo of his drawing Christopher has steadily been filling the Diaz household with new tattoo designs. Crayons and markers have been worn down to unusable stubs and there probably isn't a shred of paper that hasn't been doodled on.
Eddie doesn't mind, and has found himself perusing the arts and crafts section of the local superstore, Buck in tow for new supplies.
The news Buck getting a tattoo in reminder of surviving the tsunami (and the subsequent upheaval of the lawsuit, Eddie's fight club drama and the actual work of just dealing with it all) came during the billionth rewatch of Finding Dory with Buck confiding to Eddie in a low voice as not to disturb Christopher who was lodged between them fast asleep on the sofa, that he was thinking of asking Christopher to draw it.
Of course Christopher took to the task with all the enthusiasm a nine year old could muster- which was a lot.
He and Christopher had spent several nights after dinner huddled around the coffee table surrounded by paper and crayons working on it.
The end result wasn't anything elaborate or big - in keeping with the rest of Buck's tattoos.
Buck had also suggested that they made a day of going to the tattoo parlor on the tsunami's anniversary, to replace a bad memory with a good one.
Christopher finishes with his cereal, he rinses out the bowl as Eddie's taught him before hurrying off to get ready for their outing. Both Buck and Eddie where already dressed, Buck looking over the final design fondly as they wait in the lounge.
The design was three small fishes swimming in a wave.
There's been around ten different versions before now, but Christopher has become somewhat of a perfectionist and had deemed each preceding "not right" and thrown away.
Christopher has been telling everyone, friends, family, school teachers, random strangers in the street, everybody, that he's going to be a tattoo artist when he grows up.
Secretly Eddie worries that Chris will be heartbroken if this latest career dream doesn't pan out, although Christopher is likely to change his mind soon enough. He is nine after all and it's less frightening than his kid wanting to be a firefighter or astronaut. The thought of his little boy millions of miles away in outer space - nope not happening, no way.
Christopher's dexterity is good for a child his age with CP, his handwriting is improving and his art - though Eddie is definitely basis - is great for someone his age. Who knows. Maybe.
Christopher emerges from his room a suspiciously full backpack slung over his shoulder. Buck takes it from him and peers inside. When he shows the contents to Eddie, he can't help but laugh. Christopher has crammed a box of crayons, a paper pad, several power rangers and a couple of handfuls of Lego in side.
Buck slips the folded design inside before scooping up Christopher to carry him to Eddie's truck.
Eddie follows locking up behind him.
The drive to the tattoo parlor is a short one - well short for LA, only a little traffic since the morning rush hour has long since died - they arrive twenty minutes before the booked appointment, Christopher audibly excited as the truck pulls up.
The parlor is situated between a fancy free weight gym and a organic vegan coffee shop, it's larger than Eddie expected, there's a huge mural of flowers and birds in mixed styles reaching out over the shop front.
Glass doors lead into a spacious waiting area with a floor to ceiling shelving unit decorated with action figures and retro toys acting as a divider between said area and the actual work space.
Christopher drags his dad over to the shelves for a closer look whilst Buck confirms his appointment with the cheery receptionist a young guy with a purple mohawk and tattoos on every exposed bit of skin besides his face, he introduces himself as Luka and directs them to the couch to wait on before hurrying off to fetch their artist.
Both Buck and Christopher are practically vibrating in excitement. It's cute Eddie thinks as he ruffles his son's curls.
Chris has got the design stored in his backpack along with his latest sketchbook and some crayons to keep himself entertained. The little boy rummages through his bag whilst they wait, occasionally shoving unwanted items into Buck's waiting hands until Chris triumphantly pulls out his drawing.
"Is this the famous Christopher?" A lilting voice calls out. The owner, a short women probably in her mid-forties, the visible skin of her arms and legs adored with flowers and Disney characters, comes into view around the dividing wall.
She hurried over hugging Buck before turning to Eddie, hand out in greeting, they shake hands quickly. "I'm Mara, you must be Eddie, and you must be Christopher."
She shakes Chris hand too making him giggle.
"Well let's get this show on the road."
Lead into the main shop, Eddie looks over the room, more tattoo inspired murals cover the walls, one of which has a large flat screen TV hanging from it. There are three workstations with cushioned benches, wheeled stools and a desks. One station is already occupied, the burring of an ink gun travels the room.
Mara's station is already partly prepped, the bench and it's adjoining rests wrapped in plastic, several ink bottles line up along the desk. As she sets up her equipment Mara explains each step to Eddie, Buck and Christopher, although Eddie notes that she's directing the conversation to his son. Chris is utterly enraptured by it asking questions and peering closer.
Buck sits down on the bench rolling up his t-shirt sleeve to his shoulder. Eddie takes a seat on one of the free chairs, beside it, laying a hand on his boyfriend's thigh. Christopher comes over and Eddie picks him up to set Chris on his knees.
Christopher's backpack and crutches are leant against the leg of the second chair out of the way.
Mara demonstrates to Christopher how his drawing is printed on to a transfer sheet, " Like the temporary tattoos you can get with sweets," she explains, " it'll let me trace the design with my gun so it'll match perfectly with your drawing."
Mara, sitting on her stool, scoots up the side of the bench to were Buck is waiting.
"Okay Christopher now I'm going to wipe Buck's arm.." Buck makes a face at Chris as Mara does so causing the little boy to laugh.
"...where the tattoo will go so that the skin is all nice and clean and then we press the transfer paper on like so.."
The transfer paper is pressed to the inside of Buck's right bicep, Mara rubbing the paper to get it to stick down smoothly.
"Hold that there sweetie." She tells Buck as she moves to ready the ink gun with the first needle before turning back to Buck and starts removing the transfer.
"Now we peel it back and the design should now be on Buck's arm." Mara explains shooting a grin at Eddie and Christopher.
It looks really good already" Christopher chimes as the design comes into view.
"Sure does buddy." Buck agrees flexing his bicep like an old fashioned boxer, Eddie rolled his eyes, good god he loves this dork.
There's a part of Eddie that is still scared by how much love he feels for the man in front of him. Scared by how deeply that love has rooted it's way into his heart.
Eddie has had only three great loves in his life, Shannon, Christopher and now Buck. And each love is very different. Shannon was his first love, a highschool sweetheart turned wife and mother of his child. Despite their estrangement, their fumbled reconciliation and her untimely death that love still lives, though it no longer romantic in nature. A nostalgic love, a remorseful love but still love all the same.
His love for Christopher is all consuming. It is fierce and unbreakable. The love of a parent, wildly protective and proud. A love that for a long time was the only real thing Eddie felt he could show the world. Not just another role to play. Another title add to the list, like dutiful son, loving husband, war hero veteran, firefighter etc, etc.
His love for Buck grew out of the kind of friendship Eddie hadn't had since childhood, an easy friendship (despite the rocky start) that filled in the cracks left by Shannon's abandonment, his parents disapproval, the stress of single parenthood.
It grew as Buck began nudging his way into the life Eddie and Christopher were building in LA.
It grew from Buck introducing him to the godsend that is Carla Price. It grew from the endless random trivia Buck spouted. It grew from their seamless partnership on calls, from joking around with their friends.
Most importantly it grew from Bucks devotion to Christopher, his ability to work out ways to make that little boy laugh, to work out ways to help Chris do the things other kids could do. To have Christmas with his dad despite work. From Buck's sheer desperation to find and protect Christopher during the tsunami to his utter relief he was found alive and unharmed. The fact he loves Christopher so much he didn't think twice about getting a tattoo of a silly little doodle just because.
Eddie thinks of this love as Buck holds his arm still whilst another of Chris' drawings is permanently etched into his skin.
All in all the whole tattooing process doesn't take long given the size and simplicity.
Christopher has charmed Mara and her fellow colleagues who come over to say hi and is reaping the benefits of being a cute nine year old as the adults scramble to accommodate his every whim from choosing what to watch on the TV to being set up at a spare desk to draw when he gets bored to getting a chocolate milkshake from the café next door when the parlor's intern goes on a coffee run.
Eddie hopes Chris will never use his cuteness for evil but doesn't protest the spoiling.
Buck turns out to be terrible at sitting for a tattoo. He fidgets and winces. Makes faces and keeps nearly distracting Mara with random questions and jokes.
But Mara is clearly used to this, barely batting an eye and steadily working on.
When the last of the ink is applied and the the excess is wipe away she gives them a chance to look over the work.
It looks good even as the skin starts to redden, Buck is grinning from ear to ear.
"Pretty great huh Chris"
"Yuh huh." Christopher nods excitedly as he scrambles in for a closer look, hand reaching out to poke at it.
"Does it hurt?"
"It does if you poke it buddy." Christopher jerks his hand back.
"Sorry."
Buck laughs and pulls Christopher into a one armed hug, he looks over the boy's head and gestures to Eddie who moves to join in as Mara comes back to finish wrapping up Bucks arm.
She gives him a well rehearsed run down of after care, joking that she knows Buck knows what to do but that she also knows with his luck it's best to be on the safe side.
By the time Christopher's things are cleared away back into his backpack, buck has already paid.
Christopher shuffles shyly up to Mara and hands her a bit of paper. It's a drawing of a tattoo gun, a bit wobbly but clearly it's meant to be a tattoo gun.
Eddie watches as the woman smiles, a little teary eyed and thanks his son proclaiming the drawing will have to be hung up somewhere in the shop.
Christopher preens.
The day's still young as the trio get back into the car, Buck suggests getting some ice cream which Christopher enthusiastically agrees. Eddie knows that ice cream on top of a chocolate milkshake will mean trouble come bed time. But how can he resist the double whammy of both Christopher and Buck's pleading eyes.
They'll be the death of him for sure.
But Eddie doesn't mind.
Today maybe the anniversary of one of the worst days of their lives, but so far it's been pretty great.
So they go and get ice cream. Christopher will make a monstrousitity of chocolate, whipped cream, sprinkles and gummy bears he won't be able to finish. But will get brain freeze from eating his too quickly and will pester Eddie for kisses to make it better. Eddie will pretend to be annoyed but secretly enjoy his boyfriend's silliness.
Today will officially become a cheat day when Buck orders from their favourite Chinese restaurant too tired to cook after running around the backyard with Chris for hours after they get home.
And when Christopher has finally crashed and has been tucked into bed Eddie will grab a couple of beers and they'll sit and watch nonsense on TV.
It'll have been a good day, better than expected but nothing majorly special. Just the three of them, together happy and healthy and whole.
And if Eddie is honest he can't imagine anything better.
Tagging @evaneddie I finally posted yay!

HORSEBACK RIDING
April 15, 1949
“Horseback Riding” (aka “Liz Takes Horseback Riding Lessons”) is episode #39 of the radio series MY FAVORITE HUSBAND broadcast on April 15, 1949 on the CBS radio network.
Synopsis ~ George’s female co-chair for his horseback riding club's upcoming weekend breakfast ride has Liz so jealous that she's determined to overcome her fear of horses and learn to ride herself.
“My Favorite Husband” was based on the novels Mr. and Mrs. Cugat, the Record of a Happy Marriage (1940) and Outside Eden (1945) by Isabel Scott Rorick, which had previously been adapted into the film Are Husbands Necessary? (1942). “My Favorite Husband” was first broadcast as a one-time special on July 5, 1948. Lucille Ball and Lee Bowman played the characters of Liz and George Cugat, and a positive response to this broadcast convinced CBS to launch “My Favorite Husband” as a series. Bowman was not available Richard Denning was cast as George. On January 7, 1949, confusion with bandleader Xavier Cugat prompted a name change to Cooper. On this same episode Jell-O became its sponsor. A total of 124 episodes of the program aired from July 23, 1948 through March 31, 1951. After about ten episodes had been written, writers Fox and Davenport departed and three new writers took over – Bob Carroll, Jr., Madelyn Pugh, and head writer/producer Jess Oppenheimer. In March 1949 Gale Gordon took over the existing role of George’s boss, Rudolph Atterbury, and Bea Benaderet was added as his wife, Iris. CBS brought “My Favorite Husband” to television in 1953, starring Joan Caulfield and Barry Nelson as Liz and George Cooper. The television version ran two-and-a-half seasons, from September 1953 through December 1955, running concurrently with “I Love Lucy.” It was produced live at CBS Television City for most of its run, until switching to film for a truncated third season filmed (ironically) at Desilu and recasting Liz Cooper with Vanessa Brown.
MAIN CAST
Lucille Ball (Liz Cooper) was born on August 6, 1911 in Jamestown, New York. She began her screen career in 1933 and was known in Hollywood as ‘Queen of the B’s’ due to her many appearances in ‘B’ movies. With Richard Denning, she starred in a radio program titled “My Favorite Husband” which eventually led to the creation of “I Love Lucy,” a television situation comedy in which she co-starred with her real-life husband, Latin bandleader Desi Arnaz. The program was phenomenally successful, allowing the couple to purchase what was once RKO Studios, re-naming it Desilu. When the show ended in 1960 (in an hour-long format known as “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour”) so did Lucy and Desi’s marriage. In 1962, hoping to keep Desilu financially solvent, Lucy returned to the sitcom format with “The Lucy Show,” which lasted six seasons. She followed that with a similar sitcom “Here’s Lucy” co-starring with her real-life children, Lucie and Desi Jr., as well as Gale Gordon, who had joined the cast of “The Lucy Show” during season two. Before her death in 1989, Lucy made one more attempt at a sitcom with “Life With Lucy,” also with Gordon.
Richard Denning (George Cooper) was born Louis Albert Heindrich Denninger Jr., in Poughkeepsie, New York. When he was 18 months old, his family moved to Los Angeles. Plans called for him to take over his father’s garment manufacturing business, but he developed an interest in acting. Denning enlisted in the US Navy during World War II. He is best known for his roles in various science fiction and horror films of the 1950s. Although he teamed with Lucille Ball on radio in “My Favorite Husband,” the two never acted together on screen. While “I Love Lucy” was on the air, he was seen on another CBS TV series, “Mr. & Mrs. North.” From 1968 to 1980 he played the Governor on “Hawaii 5-0″, his final role. He died in 1998 at age 84.
Gale Gordon and Bea Benadaret do not appear in this episode.
Ruth Perrott (Katie, the Maid) was also later seen on “I Love Lucy.” She first played Mrs. Pomerantz (above right), a member of the surprise investigating committee for the Society Matrons League in “Pioneer Women” (ILL S1;E25), as one of the member of the Wednesday Afternoon Fine Arts League in “Lucy and Ethel Buy the Same Dress” (ILL S3;E3), and also played a nurse when “Lucy Goes to the Hospital” (ILL S2;E16). She died in 1996 at the age of 96.
Bob LeMond (Announcer) also served as the announcer for the pilot episode of “I Love Lucy”. When the long-lost pilot was finally discovered in 1990, a few moments of the opening narration were damaged and lost, so LeMond – fifty years later – recreated the narration for the CBS special and subsequent DVD release.
GUEST CAST
Frank Nelson (Salesman) was born on May 6, 1911 (three months before Lucille Ball) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He started working as a radio announcer at the age of 15. He later appeared on such popular radio shows as “The Great Gildersleeve,” “Burns and Allen,” and “Fibber McGee & Molly”. This is one of his 11 performances on “My Favorite Husband.” On “I Love Lucy” he holds the distinction of being the only actor to play two recurring roles: Freddie Fillmore and Ralph Ramsey, as well as six one-off characters, including the frazzled train conductor in “The Great Train Robbery” (ILL S5;E5), a character he repeated on “The Lucy Show.” Aside from Lucille Ball, Nelson is perhaps most associated with Jack Benny and was a fifteen-year regular on his radio and television programs.
Whenever there was a salesman role, Nelson was top of the casting list. He perfected the ingratiating and infuriating salesperson on Jack Benny’s radio and television shows. “Yeeeees?”
Doris Singleton (Audrey Peters) created the role of Caroline Appleby on “I Love Lucy,” although she was known as Lillian Appleby in the first of her ten appearances. She made two appearances on “The Lucy Show” and four appearances on “Here’s Lucy.”
Alan Reed (Mr. Lloyd aka ‘Little Ole Lloyd’ / Farmer / Land-Owner) is probably best remembered as the voice of Fred Flintstone. He started his acting career in 1937. In 1963 he played a café owner in “Lucy Visits the White House” (TLS S1;E25). In 1967, he made an appearance on the Desi Arnaz series “The Mothers-in-Law”. He died in 1977 at the age of 69.
Coincidentally, Reed’s only appearance with Lucille Ball on television also had Lucy on horseback!
Pinto Colvig (Gulliver) was the original voice of Disney’s Pluto and Goofy, until his death in 1967. In 1993, the Walt Disney Company honored him as a ‘Disney Legend.’ On May 28, 2004, he was inducted into the International Clown Hall of Fame in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He provided the dog barks for “Lucy is Her Own Lawyer” (TLS S2;E23) in 1964.
EPISODE
ANNOUNCER: “As we look in on the Coopers, we find Katie the maid serving Liz her breakfast. George is upstairs getting into his riding habit as this is the day he meets with his horseback riding club.”
Katie wants to know why Liz never goes with George to his horseback riding club. Liz says she had an incident with a horse as a child. They had to stop the merry-go-round. George comes down to breakfast and tells Liz that he is getting a ride to the stables by Audrey Peters. They are chairing next weekend’s breakfast ride. Liz is instantly jealous.
Audrey rings the bell. Liz is icy toward her, at best. Audrey asks Liz why she won’t come with them.
AUDREY: “Are you afraid of horses?” LIZ: “No dear, I’m allergic to cats. It’s too bad I won’t get to see you ride, though. George says you look like part of the horse.” GEORGE: “Audrey’s been riding since she’s a child and she’s never lost her seat. Can you believe it?” LIZ: “Believe it? I can see it!”
When George and Audrey have gone, Liz tells Katie she’s going to learn to ride a horse.
Liz is shopping and asks the salesman (Frank Nelson) to show her some riding clothes.
FLOORWALKER: “A habit?” LIZ: “No, I’m just starting.”
Liz gives her sizes as “thirty around the withers” and “seven along the fetlocks.” He shows her some English riding clothes. Although he suggests a size seven boot, Liz insists on a six.
At the stables, he meets with Mr. Lloyd aka ‘Little Ole Lloyd’ (Alan Reed). She tells him she wants to talk lessons. He suggests a swayback, toothless horse named Gulliver. Liz is afraid of Gulliver.
She insists she can mount him on her own, but gets on backwards! Gulliver falls asleep before they take their first trot!
Next day, Liz returns for her second lesson. It seems Gulliver has developed an affection for Liz, perking up as soon as she comes in the stall. Gulliver sighs in love when Liz smiles at her.
At her sixth lesson, Lloyd says Gulliver won’t eat unless Liz is there, and he won’t allow anyone else to ride him. Liz still hasn’t even gone once around the ring without falling off. She finally masters walking once around the ring on her twelfth lesson. Now if she can only do it with Gulliver.
On the day of the breakfast ride, Liz is anxious for Audrey to come pick up George and take him to the stables. Audrey honks the horn.
GEORGE: “I’d better go.” LIZ: “Yes. She mustn’t keep her broomstick running.”
ANNOUNCER: “George is out on a breakfast ride with his horseback riding club. Liz, to surprise him, has secretly learned to ride and is going to make a grand entrance by galloping up to greet them.”
Lloyd lets Gulliver out of the trailer about a half mile from the breakfast ride location. Gulliver trots up to the spot but a farmer (Alan Reed) tells them they rode on another ten miles to Hickory Falls.
Arriving at Hickory Falls, Gulliver is winded. The land-owner (Alan Reed again) warns her that the breakfast riders were trespassing and he shooed them off to Buzzard’s Roost. He charged them ten dollars for trespass and does the same to Liz. She rides on to Buzzard’s Roost but ends up back where she started from!
Back at the Cooper home, Katie answers the doorbell and finds Liz lying on the welcome mat exhausted.
LIZ: “What a wild ride. I felt like Paul Revere. Come to think of it, we probably had the same horse!”
Paul Revere (1734-1818) was a silversmith, engraver, early industrialist, and Patriot in the American Revolution. He is best known for his midnight ride to alert the colonial militia in April 1775 to the approach of British forces before the battles of Lexington and Concord. In a 1964 “Jack Benny Special” Lucy and Benny played Mr. and Mrs. Paul Revere. In the sketch, it is Mrs. Revere who makes the famous midnight ride, not Paul.
Liz asks Katie to help her get her riding boots off - but they don’t budge. Liz’s feet have swollen and the boots won’t come off. Katie she suggests Liz go down to the store and ask the salesman for help. Once she gets there, the salesman gloats that he warned her to buy sevens. He thinks he knows the trick to getting them off, but he can’t do it. He struggles and the boot finally comes off - but he has shattered the store window in the process!
Liz comes home. The boots are off but her feet look like two thermometers. George comes home. He says that Audrey was thrown, when as a joke she attempted to mount an old swayback named Gulliver!
LIZ (laughing): “I’ll have to send over a nice bouquet of flowers. GEORGE: “Audrey will appreciate that.” LIZ: “Who said anything about Audrey? I’m gonna send them for the horse!”

The struggles of an rper ♡
tagged by: @krupnick tagging: what she said do it if u wanna
NAME: nah NICKNAME: Blue, Bluebird, Birb, whatever floats ur boat rly AGE: I’m over 18 but not old enough to drink in my country, not that I really want to FACE CLAIM: Piper from the F.inding Dory short, occasionally art of my birdsona
PRONOUNS: She / Her HEIGHT: I’m shorter than all my muses except Road BIRTHDAY: I be a Cancer (I blame this partially for my emotion level pfft)
AESTHETIC: Colors, paintings, nature, animals, birds, water, mountains, stars, old ships, old cars-- listen I’m an Art Major I could go on a while
LAST SONG YOU LISTENED TO: IDK I’VE BEEN LISTENING TO ALL OF NICK’S SONGS
FAVORITE MUSE(S) YOU’VE WRITTEN: Classic D.aisy Duck, V.ictor Fries from B:TAS/Arkham City, Disney’s M.aid Marian, Motor Ed from KP, Eugene from T.angled, Elsa from F.rozen, and of course all the current sideblogs especially Duke goodness gracious I love my duck
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO TAKE ON YOUR CURRENT MUSE ( THAT YOU ARE POSTING THIS ON ): Well I’ve been rping Hook for a couple of years now, started out in a group that’s kinda faded but all my friends from it are still in touch. M.arahute and Road are loved because I love??? birds okay and they’re both v interesting to me despite being non-speaking. Dakota is my soft quiet boy who also is a cowboy I watched so many westerns with my now-deceased great grand parents so westerns are kinda special to me and he is a part of that. He and Duke also represent the strong sense of morality and strength I try to have, but it’s hard sometimes. ALSO IT’S ALL AMANDA AND KATIE’S FAULT I HAVE DUKE I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW ABOUT MD UNTIL I SAW THEM RPING AND KATIE REBLOGGED THIS PICTURE AND I JUST ‘..... who is this, I should check into this series’ and bam my life is now consumed by a lovely duck (no complaints, he’s a nice muse to have in one’s head tbh, and also katie is such a wonderful otp partner). Falcon was the first from DT that appealed to me, I knew I was going to end up with one from the show but yes he c alled to me.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ASPECTS OF YOUR CURRENT MUSE: IF I GO INTO HCS I’LL BE HERE A WHILE so I’ll just cover canon elements of a few Road: he is so, laid, back, yet constantly mobile and doing SOMETHING at all times idk man he’s just very amusing to write because I never feel I have to be serious with him Hook and Falcon: dapper englishmen who don’t have time for your shet Marahute: BEST MOM, SHE’S BEEN THROUGH S O MUCH BUT NEVER GAVE UP OR GAVE IN BC OF HER CHILDRENS best mom mom goals Dakota: I already said it but good soft boy, I love intimidating characters that can throw you a mile or gently cradle you and make you feel safe depending on how you treat them Duke: everything. e v e r y t h i n g. his strength his sense of humor his vocal variations that clearly express his emotion his support his sass his dad-tendencies his skills his streetsmarts his sticking to what he believes in despite what he’s gone through-- um, EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM IS MY FAVORITE???
WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING: Watching whatever the muse is from. Music. Random posts that pop on the dash that remind me of one of them/something. Meme/sentence starters. I have no organized ability to inspire myself it just, happens sometimes, and others not so much fkjhd
FAVORITE TYPES OF THREADS: Platonic or Romantic fluff are my favorite ngl. I also don’t get to write action a whole lot but THOSE TIMES I DO OH BOY IT FUN but I’m not comfortable with it if I don’t know where me and my partner are going so that requires some plotting. Also I enjoy silly shorter things as much as lengthy serious ones, it’s nice to have a balance!
BIGGEST STRUGGLE IN REGARDS TO YOUR CURRENT MUSE: IT SURE WOULD BE NICE IF THE MALE BIRDS WOULDN’T HOARD MY ATTENTION FROM THE OTHERS, not to name any n ames

As you know, Warner Bros./Time Warner Inc.’s Wonder Woman passed a number of milestones yesterday. First, with $747 million worldwide, it is officially past the $745m worldwide gross of Suicide Squad. Now, to be fair, the supervillain caper didn’t play in China, while the Gal Gadot adventure earned over $90m in that territory. But no matter, Wonder Woman is the biggest DCEU/DC Films earner in North America and the second-biggest behind Batman v Superman’s $873m worldwide take.
The film has done so well, especially in North America, that I may have to pen a “Justice League doesn’t have to top Wonder Woman to be a hit” post in a few months. Having passed the domestic total of Deadpool ($363 million sans 3D and with an R-rating), it is the second-highest grossing comic book superhero movie ever without Batman, Iron Man or Spider-Man. And with a running total now ahead of Walt Disney and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($368.7m versus $366m), Wonder Woman is all-but-sure to best the Marvel sequel to become the biggest domestic earner of the summer.
Heck, if it tops $410 million domestic, ahead of Spider-Man ($403m in 2002) and Iron Man 3 ($409m in 2013), it’ll be the third-biggest solo superhero movie ever behind Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight sequels. Now that’s no guarantee, as right now we seem to be looking at a $390m domestic total. But here’s the thing about the movie. It has continuously moved the goal post every day of its domestic release, from its $103.251m opening weekend (a whopping 2.71x multiplier, larger than any MCU movie) to its contentiously small weekend-to-weekend drops over the last six weeks.
The Patty Jenkins pic fell 43% in its second weekend, the smallest such drop for a major comic book superhero film since Sony’s Spider-Man back in 2002. It fell 29% in weekend three, the third-smallest third-weekend drop for a $100m+ opener behind The Jungle Book and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In weekend four, confronted with Paramount/Viacom Inc.’s Transformers: The Last Knight, it fell 39% and then just 36% (over the holiday) in weekend five despite dealing with Universal/Comcast Corp.’s Despicable Me 3 and losing 529 theaters. This weekend, even with Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming doing its thing (and another 313-theater drop), it fell 37%.
It has now earned a 3.56x multiplier, which is already the fifth leggiest $100 million+ opener ever, behind Finding Dory ($486m/$135m = 3.6), Toy Story 3 ($415 million/$110m = 3.77), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.6m/$247.9m = 3.78x) and Shrek 2 ($441m/$108m = 4.1x). And DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek 2 opened with $21m via its Wed/Thurs pre-weekend launch. So once Wonder Woman gets to $392m, it’ll be the second-leggiest $100m+ opener and the leggiest that opened on a Friday. It’s certainly the leggiest comic book superhero movie that didn’t open on a Wednesday (or Tuesday) by a mile since Blade back in 1998.
As to whether it gets past Spider-Man or Iron Man 3 notwithstanding), it’s closer than I would have guessed even a week or two ago. Its $9.8 million sixth weekend was just behind Spider-Man and way ahead of Iron Man 3 ($10.3 million and $5.73m respectively) but with a larger drop (-28% and -31%) and a smaller 38-day total ($370m and $394m). Iron Man 3 wasn’t the leggiest blockbuster of our age, so it was essentially done by end of its second month. Spider-Man had another $33m to go, which if Wonder Woman follows suit puts it over/under $402m.
So, yeah, the fact that we’re even talking about a $410 million total is a measure of its sheer staying power. Wonder Woman has not only been incredibly leggy throughout its run, but it has maintained these legs no matter the obstacle. Losing screens? Facing off against summer biggies? Facing off against kid-friendly summer biggies that are good or great? It doesn’t matter, the DC Films picture has acted as if other movies weren’t even in the marketplace. To use a recent political rallying cry, Wonder Woman has persisted no matter the variables.

Research Media roles and Practices - Research and development stage
Pixar Research and Development
Source:
https://nofilmschool.com/2016/11/how-research-and-development-drive-story-creation-disney-pixar
Pixars stories are made from the three pitch model. This is an idea that each director spends four to five months crafting a pitch for John Lassiter. These pitches normally introduce the characters , world and the themes in the story. However it does not contain the story beats themselves. If Lassiter likes the story from the director then pursues the idea. However all of the pitches can be rejected and the iteration process will start again.
Research and Development for these films last up to a year for these films. Directors lead the research process and the research and development teams adapt to the instructions from the director. Even the fantasy worlds of Pixar have extensive research placed into them. For example for finding Dory the character of Hank was fully researched to ensure that it was the correct breed of octopus that showed similar personality traits.
Research and Development teams will also do thematic research. They use a large amounts of clips form live action film sets which are backed by music to create emotion . This allows the team to grasp the themes of the story they are trying to produce. In addition to sizzle reels, the Research and Development team schedules reference screenings of several movies in the same genre. By doing these reference screenings the team learn as much about the genre tropes as possible in order to play with those tropes when the story is created.
As the Research and Development phase progresses, story rooms emerge with images and notes covering all of the walls for the director and creative team to absorb.
The director and Research and Development teams also use experts in their research areas. For example, during the research phase for Ratatouille, the team met with a woman who lived with 36 rats. They also invited chef Anthony Bourdain to talk to them about his most memorable meal at a restaurant. Bourdain actually choked up emotionally when recalling this memory—a direct influence on how the character of food critic Anton Ego reacts when he takes a bite of Remy's dish. The team then hired chef Thomas Keller as a consultant on the film and shadowed dinner shifts at his renowned restaurant The French Laundry to learn how a real French restaurant's kitchen would operate.
Pete Docter and the creative team behind Up, explored the mile-high plateaus known as tepuis in Venezuela to create the world of Paradise Falls. Docter and his team ventured to the top of the tepuis, took thousands of photos, drew pictures of the landscape and ecosystem, and even laid on their stomachs to peer over the edge to get a true sense of the height and scope for their climactic scenes.
